Enabling TPCv2 for location aware deployment

Hi All,
I am deploying a WLAN to support location awareness and was wondering if I enable TPCv2
should I also change the DCA interval/status, quite a few posts have said not to enable TPCv2, but why ?
TIA

TPCv2 is dedicated for some certain dense ap deployment to generally avoid co-channel interface. Do not use it till told by Cisco.
for most deployment v1 is recommended.

  • Best practice for locations to deploy AP3602i's?

I am doing an install for a new building for my company. We have 2 office floors and 19x 2602's. They will be switched through a WLC-5508. I am looking to find a best practices guide on how to deploy them (location wise). For instance, should they be spaced certain distances from each other, at least X feet away from walls/obstacles, at least X high off the floor, in a triangular pattern, etc etc. Anyone know where to find documentation such as this?
Each one of our floors are rectangular in shape, around 20k square feet, have mechanical and elevator shafts in the center of the floors. So it is a large squarish oval. Nine AP's per floor, I thought about placing them along the center line of the oval, but in sort of a zig-zag pattern, not in a straight line along the perimeter. They would all be ceiling mounted. I am looking for any info to let me know if that is a good plan, or how I should change it to confirm to best practices.

Either you do voice or just data only, I recommend you do site survey before and after.  Make sure you leave some slacks of cables so that you can re-position APs after the post-deployment site survey.  Lowest SNR for a good solid connection is 20~25dB due to the fact that you need some fade margine, so perform site survey with that in mind.
Those lighting fixtures are not big of deal if they are recessed and mounted above access points.  Bigger concerns are firedoors, leaded walls, elevator columns, etc.
Remember that a site survey after the deployment is very important for a good wireless network.
    Good luck.

  • How to enable Forms to locate icons deployed using OC4J Instance?

I am using Forms 9i Builder.
I would like to create a pictured Push Button.
I create a Push Button with Property Palette as follows:
    Iconic: Yes
    Icon Filename: bell.jpg
I can neither see the icons on the button in the Layout Editor, nor during run-time when it is deployed on OC4J Instance.
How can I set the icons path in Forms Builder and deplyed on OC4J?

    Hi,
the icon name should be without the .jpg extensions. The Forms Developer environment doesn't show jpg icons in any release before 10g (9.0.4). See the documentation og 10g on how to point it to the files.
For deployment, the default configuration for icons is .gif. You change it in the file registry.dat located in the forms90/java/registry directory
For deploying icons in Forms, see the whitepaper "Oracle9i Forms: How to Deploy Icons" located at otn.oracle.com/products/forms --> Forms 9i Collateral. This paper is still valid for Forms 10g.

  • Is there a location aware wifi option (or app) that enables wifi at a specific location (home) and automatically disables it when you are away from the specified location?

I manually turn off my wifi when leaving home for several reasons:
    1. I don't want my wifi to be on and constantly scanning wifi networks while I am away from home due to privacy reasons.  Many retail stores and airports are now tracking users based on their smartphone's wifi pings.  They can then store your phone's MAC address (the unique identifier of your phone) to determine how often you visit the store and where you go within the store.  It's just a matter of time before they match up your phone's MAC address with your credit card/payment info and then to your identity.  The only way to subvert this is to turn off your phone's wifi.
    2. For security reasons: Wifi access points can track devices that broadcast their wifi signal, even if they don't ever actually connect to the access point's network.  These access points can then store your device's details including your phone's MAC address.  Once your phone's MAC address is discovered, it can be targeted by a hacker.  In addition, there are multiple well known hacker tools that can be used to scan for smartphone wifi signals in order to detect and then hack your iphone.  Bottom line: if your wifi is discoverable, then your device is hackable.
    3. I believe it would save battery life if the iphone's wifi is not on and constantly scanning for networks all the time.
There are other reasons as well, but the above are my 3 main reasons for asking about this.
The reminders app is location aware - you can set reminders to alert you when you are at a specific location.  So, why not provide the option (or an app) to only enable wifi when you are at home - or any other location where you have an authorized or trusted wifi?
As it is right now, the iphone's wifi is broadcasting 24/7 everywhere you go.  Not great for privacy & security.  When I turn off my wifi, the phone uses my 4G plan for data and GPS for location services... so wifi is not needed at all for data or location services while I am away from home (and no, wifi does not improve location accuracy, that is a fallacy... there is nothing within the wifi protocol that could ever improve location accuracy).  But the point is, wifi should have a location aware option.  Otherwise, it's just a matter of time before there is a headline story about how not having this feature is a huge security/privacy problem.

Understood.  However, the point that I'm trying to make is that it's not the WiFi access point's security that's in question, it's having your phone's WiFi in an always-on mode that's in question.  It's simple: if your phone's WiFi is on, then it is both discoverable and hackable... even when it's not connected to a WiFi network or access point.  Here's an article about a drone in London that was created to hack smartphone WiFi signals (and hackers have been doing what this drone does for years):
    http://money.cnn.com/2014/03/20/technology/security/drone-phone/
The point is that it's not  secure to have your phone's WiFi in an always-on mode.  It would be better for privacy and security if Apple made WiFi location aware so that it is only enabled when you are at a trusted location (e.g. your home or office).  Or, at least give us the option of location aware WiFi so that each user can determine the best mode for their phone:
    (1) Always-On (current default - not secure and many privacy issues).
    (2) Trusted mode (only on at trusted locations).
    (3) Off.

  • Will Distance Filter for Location Manager still work when User Tracking Mode is enabled?

Basically I have the MKUserTrackingBarButtonItem with my Map View. When you turn it on it basically turns on the MKUserTrackingMode where your location is updated live on your map. My question is if I have my Location Manager's Distance Filter set to 100m and I traveled with my device 100m and at the same time the map is updating my current location live how will it detect that the device traveled 100m from its original current location? And how will it enter the locationUpdate: delegate method for Location Manager if it only fires when the users location has traveled 100m from it's previous current location? Thanks.

I found my answer through experimentation, yes it will still work. How does it do it exactly? I still have no idea. I hope someone would enlighten me on this.

  • Windows 7 hangs on bootup - Culprit appears to be Network Location Awareness

We just finished our deployment of Windows 7 a few weeks ago. Everything ran great for a while. This week an issue started popping
up. Random computers will hang on "Please Wait" during bootup. We can leave them for days and they will stay there. If we disable the Network Location Awareness service, they bootup just fine. Then we re-enable it and everything runs smooth (most
of the time). A couple of machines experience the issue again on their next reboot. Other machines have had the issue once and then seemed fine after. All machines are the same Dell models (7010) and were imaged with the same image. So far, the only solution
I've found online is to disable that service and then re-enable it. That works as a band-aid, but does anybody have a permanent solution for this?
    Dave

    Hi,
We can install windows performance toolkit and then capture a boot trace to look at what happens during boot process:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/mniehaus/archive/2012/09/13/using-the-windows-performance-toolkit.aspx
On the other hand, disable the following policy to check if it makes any difference:
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon\ Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon
Also, apply any updated network driver if there is.

  • Location-Aware Printing not working correctly in Windows 8

I am running Windows 8 Enterprise 64-bit on a Lenovo ThinkPad X230 laptop and joined to a domain. I have set up location aware printing (in Devices and Printers -> Manage default printers) to map to different printers between office and home.
It works but with a glitch.
It does the switching correctly if I put the laptop in Sleep mode when I leave office/home.
However, with a shutdown/restart or a reboot, the "Manage Default Printers" setting would revert back to "Always use the same printer as my default printer".
Am I the only one who has this issue?

i may have some more information:
if i disable hybrid sleep the bug doesnt occur. try it and let me know
    First open Control Panel.
Navigate to Hardware and Sound -> Power Options
Click on "Choose what the power button does" on left hand side.
Click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable" later on.
Now you will see at the bottom an option "Enable Hybrid Boot" under Windows shutdown settings. From here you can either enable or disable
Hybrid Boot by either checking or unchecking that check box option. When Hybrid Boot is enabled, Windows 8 does not close the kernel session, but closes just the user sessions.
Correction: No it dont help but setting stick for a while after start but suddently reverts back to faulty setting when boot has completed
hence something must change setting during boot

  • How can I turn off Location-aware browsing?

Got notice of upgrade. Downloaded 3.6.15 and installed. On your page describing new features, you prominently mention "Location-aware browsing," as well as the fact that I can turn this spyware off, but after looking through all the "Tools" area, I cannot find a way to turn it off. I am absolutely disgusted that Mozilla has been allowing people to spy on me all these many years I have been using your browsers clear back to Netscape. How can you get away with this without asking my permission? '''NOW TELL ME HOW TO TURN OFF THIS INSIDIOUS PIECE OF *!'''
    ''Edited for language - TonyE''

People can not spy on you. Firefox only requests a location when a website makes a request, and only shares your location when you has approved the request. Firefox does not track or remember your location as you browse.
It is an opt-in service, to turn disable it do the following:
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''geo.enabled''', double-click on it to change its value to '''false'''
For more details on it see http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/geolocation/

  • Windows could not start the Network Location Awareness service on Local computer

Error 0xc000096: 0xc0000096".
i also get an error popup when i try to start the Network List service saying "Windows could not start the Network List Service service on Local Computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start".
what might i have done to make this happen and what can i do to try to fix it?

    Hi,
    Thank you for the post.
I fully understand the inconvenience the issue has been caused and the current situation can be frustrating. Please try the following steps for troubleshooting.
    1.    Please start the computer in Safe Mode with Network and check the result. If the issue disappears, please perform a clean boot.
For the detailed steps, please refer to the step 1 and 2 in the KB article 936214 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936214).
    2.    If the issue persists, please check the system file by using the command SFC /scannow.
For more information, please refer to the KB article 929833 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833).
If the above suggestions do not resolve the issue that service fails to start up, please understand that debug and dump analysis may be required for further troubleshooting. Also, in most cases, it is necessary to check the source codes. However, debugging is out of our forum’s support boundary. A support call to our product service team is needed for the debugging service. In this case, I’d like to suggest contacting Microsoft Customer Support Service (CSS) for assistance so that this issue can be resolved efficiently.

  • Location-aware browsing won't turn off!! Google is tracking me!

I followed the directions to turn off location-aware browsing: about:config geo:enabled double-click to turn off. Yet google is still able to identify my location. I have no google tool bar and I specifically turned off my location share for google in the tools page info menu. Yet they can still identify my browsing location! How do I turn it off!?

There should be a link at the bottom of a local Google site to go to the Google.com website or use http://www.google.com/ncr
You need to create an allow exception to keep cookies for Google to save that setting, otherwise you have to repeat it.

  • Network location awareness + Registry permissions..

    Hello
I am currently in the pilot phase of a Windows 8.1 deployment for a mid size client
We have come across a strange issue. We have been using SCCM 2012 R2 for the deployment - a fairly vanilla deployment. Randomly, a PC will deploy and function correctly, with IE working and networks connecting as you would expect. However, when you open
Network and Sharing Center, windows says "You are not connected to any networks"
This prevents also Outlook 2013 from starting up and finding the users mailbox.
A fix has been found to this:
Edit the permissions on this registry key and all sub-keys:
    - HKLM \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ Current Version \ Network List
to allow NetworkService and LocalSystem full access, and restarting the Network Location Awareness service.
This fix can be scripted and implemented during the OSD Task Sequence.
Why is this issue happening across the same PC hardware, networks, build process etc etc. Is this a bug with Windows 8.1?
I'd certainly like an explanation here.
    Cheers
    Adrian.

    Hi Adrian,
For the issue, I think the issue is related to your image.
As you know, the system can change the access permission for Network List.
But I cannot understand why it occurred randomly.
I suggest you use a new image to narrow down the issue.

  • Location aware browsing puts me in a different city and state. Can I manually set my location?

I tried using location aware browsing for several websites, including http://m.goplaysavetriangle.com/nearby_merchants/list
At one point I was able to force a manual location which was correct, but today that is no longer working. I am in Raleigh, NC, and the browser thinks I am in Arlington, VA.
How do I force a manually entered location for this?

    Hi windskisong,
You can turn off location aware browsing by going to the configuration settings. Type about:config in your browser window. Find the setting geo.enabled and double click it to set it to “false.”
To give a different location, you could try using the Geolocater extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/geolocater/
Did either of those help with what you need?

  • I can't get location-aware browsing working

Location-Aware browsing sounds like it would be really useful for me, but either I can't figure out how to get it activated, or there aren't any commonly used websites that make use of that feature. In the FAQ, the Firefox team mentions going into your Tools section to make some adjustments, but I can't find any such Tools section, and the Preference section, which I assume you must be referring to, doesn't offer any options like that.

    Adblock Plus

One location-aware site that you can test with is http://maps.google.com/ It should detect that it can get location information from your browser. Another is http://m.flickr.com/ -- click on the "Photos Taken Nearby" link.
