Enabling version cue in Illustrator CS4?

I've just installed CS4 Design premium and I haven't been able to find where to enable version cue. I thought it was in File Handling and Clipboard (where it was in previous versions), but there's nothing there.
Your assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.

The setting I think you're referring to in Illustrator no longer exists, Ihor. In CS4, the applications are always "Version Cue aware" -- and as Nini pointed out, you turn on and off the server itself in System Preferences.

  • Will installing a CS5 trial fix the version cue errors from CS4?

Hi, I was wondering if installing a trial version of CS5 would fix the version cue errors from CS4.
If not, does anyone know a good download of the version cue files? They have all dissappeared from my computer after running the cleanup script and the problem still persists =(

Afterr months of pain and one ephiphany later, i have a simple solution to the issue.
Go into the common files, adobe drive, version cue folder, and drag the files into the recycling bin =)
So theres no need to install cs5 =D
Hope this can help others who still have this issue.

  • Integration missing between Bridge and Version Cue CS4?

    Hi there,
I've installed Design Standard CS4, set-up Version Cue and successfully saved an image from Illustrator.
But when I open bridge there is no sign of Version Cue on the left hand side, the help file suggests that I need to select some options for Version Cue in the Start-up Scripts, but they aren't there...
Has anyone had the same experience?

Adobe recommends that you do not follow the steps above to enable Version Cue CS4 in Bridge CS4.

  • Illustrator CS4 and Bridge

You can now launch Bridge from within illustrator CS4, but how do you benefit from it? Unlike when using Photoshop, double-clicking a file opens that image in PS, what would be the workflow for using it with illustrator. I don't see a purpose.

    Lifted from the Bridge Forum:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb407015&sliceId=1
Basically - don't use Bridge and Drive until the patch is released. Best to use the mounted VC server directly in the OS and applications.
    From the tech note...
As we were preparing to ship Creative Suite 4, we discovered serious issues that need to be addressed so that customers will have an optimal experience using Version Cue CS4. Because of these issues, we temporarily disabled access to Version Cue from Adobe Bridge CS4. In mid-November, we plan to release a patch for Version Cue CS4 that will fix those issues and re-enable Version Cue CS4 in Bridge.
We recommend evaluating and implementing Version Cue in production workflows when the patch becomes available. However, you can set up a managed workflow today using the new Adobe Drive. If you will be using Adobe Drive with Version Cue in a production workflow, be aware of some issues you may encounter, which are detailed on our Version Cue Support Center at www.adobe.com/support/versioncue.
Note: To check availability of the patch in mid November, please visit the Version Cue Support Center at www.adobe.com/support/versioncue or run Adobe Update Manager (choose Help > Updates in any CS4 application).

  • Missing startup script for version cue

I'm having the problem where I don't seem to have the startup scripts for version cue in bridge.
When I check the list of startup scripts in preferences, the other scripts all seem to be there like for contribute, fireworkds etc. However version cue is missing.
I also checked the actual locations for the startup scripts.
The scripts for version cue seem to be in the actual locations but for some reason they're not running or showing up in bridge or that's what I'm assuming anyway.
I'm running bridge CS4 and version cue CS4.
If anyone could help me that would be great!

What then do they recommend?  The URL listed below is broken/no longer available.  The solution listed above does appear to work.  I installed Version Cue Server CS4 after having installed the rest of the suite on my workstation.  I used drive to link to the server(my machine which I am using for testing).  I had CS3 on this machine before uninstalling it and installing CS4.

  • Upgrading to Illustrator CS4 english from FreeHand MX french

I wonder if a french version's FreeHand serial number will be accepted by an english version of the Illustrator CS4 upgrade ?
Does anybody have an idea ?
    Thanks,
    Boyan

Call customer service and ask if it was the English version it would have to be Great Britain as they say on my master collection package Only for distribution in North America so you might not even be able to activate it or register it with an address in France.
BTW I do work in Paris and I noticed that the cost of anything photographic or computer related was way higher then here in the States. Even removable media. I bought a portable hard drive by La Cie there and it costs $100 more in paris then the New York. That was $300 as opposed to $200 here.
I agree I think it is a bit unfair. However it is my understanding that the salaries in Europe are generally higher then in New York which means they are very much higher then the rest of the U.S. which may be the reason. So I think it kind of even outs. Also the problem might be on your side of the fence as the import laws require fees or tariffs to be paid and might also level fines against companies that allow certain products to circumvent local import rules.
I know once a I sent some slides to the UK and I wrote a value on them of $300, but was not aware that it meant an invoice value, the customs imposed a $179 import fee on them and there was no if ands or buts about it.
Though they still use film in Europe it is kind of cray to do so I can get a pack of Ready Load 4X5 film for about $75.00 it cost more then twice that in Paris. It is considered a competing product so the tariff is huge but some people tell me it is not the Tariff or the VAT.
But my experience says it is and also it might be more expensive to do business in Europe.
So it is hard to tell why and some products from overseas are cheaper as well in the us then they are in US then in Europe fm where they originate?
I wonder what really drives this discrepancy.

  • Upgraded to CS4, missing Version Cue

I've seen others posing similar questions, but none seem to get answered. My office has been working off of CS3 for quite a while and Version Cue has been our primary asset management system. We have one VC server and not had problems with it.
A few days ago, a few of the PCs were upgraded and are using CS4 apps, including my workstation. Version Cue is mysteriously missing from all my apps. Bridge, Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator, all of em with the CS4 designation. I've still got the CS3 suite installed and can hit VC with them, but it's frustrating to have to go back to the old apps. What was the point in upgrading?
Anyone one hit this wall and solved it? At this point I'm reticent to try an update on the VC server because not everyone in the office is being updated and I don't want to chance a lock out to those users.

There's a lot going on it that thread. None of it was really helpful. For example, my common files/adobe veriosn cue cs4/client/4.0.0 folder is empty. only the 4.0.1 has files in it.
Version cue just plain isn't in the tools menu of bridge or in the favorites bar.

  • Adobe Version Cue CS4 -- startup entry in Windows 7

    Greetings,
I want to know if something will go wrong with Version Cue if I will disable it in Windows startup list.
Is it really necessary to keep it enabled if I use it very rarely? Will the program function correctly if I'll start using it without this entry?
    Thanks.

I was of the understanding that CS4 was available in 32-bit and 64-bit varieties?  I was aware, of course, that only some of the software was truly 64-bit, but is it the case that by owning CS4 in general, I actually do have the 64-bit version?  That's a relief... if I'm understanding correctly.
I'll only be running 4GB of RAM, unfortunately, but I don't do a lot of intensive things with CS4 anyway--I mostly picked up Web Premium to learn some of the Adobe tools for my future work life, and to play around with some basic Web design.  I'm sure 4GB's will suffice.  If not, I can always upgrade later!  I definitely plan to do a fresh install when I my copy of 7 arrives... I'm still rather superstitious of OS "upgrades" after the days of Windows 95 and 98 upgrading. heh
I actually had a bit of a computer problem that prevented me from deactivating my previous install... hopefully it won't cause me too much difficulty to get it back up and running!
    Thanks for the information, Bob!

  • Version Cue CS4 Missing, Fatal Error!!! (Mac OS)

I bought the PS CS4 for OSX alone, without the suite. Although I figured that this would be great and all and everything would work. Although what I learned is that without buying the suite you dont get a copy of version cue. Okay, Im thinking this is fine and all, untill I then start up Photoshop and start a new image, at which point Im greeted with this error:
    Fatal error - missing component
The complete error message is in the picture
I checked out the forums and found help on disabling the options for versioncue, although they didnt help at all and the issue is still there.
Please help, I have to get PS working for my job, and Adobe Support wont help me.

    michaelkemp2 wrote:

That is not true at all, Michael.
I have never bought any version of the suite, and the Adobe Version Cue support files have been installed by Photoshop 10.x and 11.x.
For some reason you have a bad install.
Try using the Adobe Uninstaller to uninstall Photoshop 11.  Then Repair Permissions with Apple's Disk Utility.  Then install Photoshop, and Repair Permissions once again.
DO NOT move the Photoshop icon, nor the Photoshop folder from the default install location in the root Applications folder.
Once you're up and running, apply all available updates.
If you're still having problems after that, please give details about your machine, OS, etc.

  • Is Version Cue CS4    TOO SLOW TO USE??????

Is it just me or is the new CS4 versioncue workflow extremely slow?
After installing Version Cue CS4 on the same server that was running CS3 and trying to open an existing InDesign project (book with dozens of linked images), I realized that using VersionCue CS4 is so painfully slow compared to CS3 that it's unusable.
It seems that VC CS4 does not create local copies on the hard drive and instead, all traffic is sent over the relatively slow Ethernet connections. While this does help with synchronizing confusions, it makes working on the projects way too slow.
VC CS4 is running with 768MB on my server, so I don't think that is the problem.
Will someone respond to this post and let me know if (a) I'm probably doing something wrong and everything will be OK, or (b) if I can install CS4 and still use VC CS3 on the server?
    thanks in advance!

Thanks for the response.. It seems a bit hit or miss on opening up my projects.
For example, if I click on a PDF file in Bridge, it takes upwards of a minute to launch Acrobat 9 and display the first page. If I open Acrobat 9 first, and then click on the PDF, it opens almost instantly.
Also, we have a job with a Microsoft PPT slideshow. When editing the slide show and saving back to the Version Cue 4 server (pressing save in the PowerPoint program), it takes upwards of a minute.
This is with 768MB allocated to the stand-alone server, and 1GB assigned to the Adobe Drive CS4 cache on the client computer.
Does anyone know how to get VC CS4 or Adobe Drive to operate faster?

  • Can I use both CS4 and CS5 separately so as to use Version Cue ?

I am thinking about buying CS5 to keep up to date.
I cannot do without Version Cue which is only CS4.
Can I buy the upgrade and run them to take advantage of both ?

Yes, you can run both CS4 and CS5 simultaneously, however, you must first launch CS5, then launch CS4. I don't know much about Version Cue or whether it would still work in a CS4/5 workflow, but you could always try the 30-day CS5 Trial as a test.

  • Version Cue cs4 is not visible in Bridge CS4

I have installed Adobe Master collection CS4 including VC server. The VC is not visible in Bridge. When I try to contact the server with Drive I stil can't see server. I can see a shared drive with the various projects, but it is not possible to see the various versions of my files, like I used to in Bridge CS3.
In preferences -> scripts there is no script for Version Cue. In Tools there is no item for version Cue. What is missing or has gone wrong with installation.
    Please help.
    Erwin.

Very few people use Version Cue, so no reply means "we got nothing".

  • How to Uninstall Version Cue CS4?

Although I have Version Cue CS4 switched off, I would like to remove it completely since I think my Mac is having startup issues and I want to remove any potential source I can. (Unfortuately CS4 has always been the greatest source of stability issues on my Mac so a good place to start since I haven't used Version Cue CS4 in years).
I noticed on this forum thread a Version Cue SDK start-up script but I don't have this one show in my Bridge prefs, presumably I don't have the SDK installed or I'm not updated,
I note PS CS4 has an uninstall alias in it's application folder, but the other apps in CS4 creative suit don't. It's kind of apauling that I've had to spend so long trawling the various Adobe help labaryniths to get such basic information.

You said you think you are having startup issues on your Mac. What are the startup issues you are experiencing?
One quick thing to check; go to System Preferences - Accounts - Login Items.
Are there any Adobe applications listed that are automatically run when your Mac first starts up?
If not, then it seems unlikely that VersionCue or any Adobe product is related to your Mac startup issues.
You should try to focus on the Mac startup issues first. While your CS4 stability issues can be frustrating, it is a good idea to do first things first.
Have you applied all updates for your version of OSX? Have you run Disk Utility to repair permissions and do a hard disk test?
Although just because Disk Utility says the disk is ok doesn't mean that much, but if it flags disk issues then you need to resolute them first.
You should probably back up your files before doing a lot of troubleshooting, just to be on the safe side.
Posting your Mac model, PPC or Intel, OSX version along with amount of RAM and hard drive space - BOTH Used and Unused space might point towards the issues you are experiencing.
Also, describe the startup issues and if it happens all the time or only part of the time.

  • Illustrator CS4 Mouse Wheel Enable

I'm using Illustrator CS4 - Windows and I'm not able to scroll up and down using the mouse wheel nor can I scroll side to side using the mouse wheel with the ctrl-spacebar.  I'm looking for how to enable this function within Illustrator, but am unable to find it.  Any suggestions?

No, this stuff is hard-coded and there is no way to enforce anything. If your mouse doesn't behave like a bog-standard Windows mouse, then AI can't use any fancy features. Vertical scrolling is supported everywhere, though, just not horizontal scrolling.
