Encoded bounds vs display bounds ...

what's the difference between encoded & display bounds? for example my sequence has an encoded bounds of 960x720 and a display bounds of 1280x720. this is dvcpro hd media that's "supposed" to be HD. however if it's 960x720, then that's 4x3 as opposed to 16x9 and therefore not really HD. what am i missing? thanks.

Are you unhappy with the quality of your image? "HD" or "not HD" is less important than just what the image looks like.
The technical explanation here is that DVCPRO HD records 960x720 in an anamorphic image, so if you looked at it at 960x720 everything would be tall and skinny. When it is displayed at 1280x720, everything looks right. FCP should deal with all that automatically. Anamorphic images are very common in video & film and have been used for many years to squeeze extra resolution out of a limited format.

  • Aspect Ratio in Compressor - Display bounds vs. Encoded bounds

    I am late on getteng a file to a client that needs a program stream anamorphic mpeg file at 720x480 from me so I am using Compressor. I thought I had the aspect ratio settings right but when i sent them the file they said this: +*the aspect ratio is at 852 x 480 and we’re losing information on the screen. To correct this, we’ll need the files uploaded again either letterboxed or anamorphic at 720 x 480.*+
    When I drag the file into compressor to look at the settings i see that the encoded bounds are 720x480, but the display bounds are 853x480, the pixel aspect ratio is set at NTSC CCIR 601/DV (16:9).
    What am I doing wrong, and what can I do differently to give them what they need?
    If you need any more info from me just let me know
    Thanks!!

    I don't know, I'm no expert so I am not sure why they see it as a problem. But again they are saying
    +*"the aspect ratio is at 852 x 480 and we’re losing information on the screen. To correct this, we’ll need the files uploaded again either letterboxed or anamorphic at 720 x 480."*+
    Do they just not know what they are talking about?

  • Media Encoder Fails to display file dialog

    PP CS3 3.2
    I have some video and I get media encoder to load properly.
    No matter what settings I select, when I click OK to encode the video the window disappears for a moment, then reappears with no messages and the file and folder dialog never appears.
    I have a fully registered version of CS3 on Windows XP SP2.
    This is awfully frustrating since I am a long time PP 1.5 user and wanted to load up some video and jump right into getting it ready for the web.
    Anyone with a similar problem or advice?

    First thanks to everyone who has gone before me on this issue. I just ran into this problem for the first time.
    I prepared a sequence named "Welcome/Intro" when I tried to use the media encoder I had the same problem discussed here. I do think that at least an error message would have been appropriate here. For the screen to just flicker and return rather than display the "File Dialogue" is really difficult to trouble-shoot. If I hadn't found this post I'd still be baffled. I have used PP for years and have never seen this issue before - I don't recall if I ever read about "forbidden" characters in Sequence Names.
    Additionally because you can re-name the files you are exporting once you get the "File Dialogue" it seem that Adobe PP could allow you to progress to the dialogue screen and then allow the windows "invalid file name" error to handle the issue. Well, thanks to everyone again. I have not up-graded to CS4 - yet. I really would be interested to know how it is handled there - not that I'll ever use the "/" in a sequence name again.

  • Flash Media Encoder Doesn't display my video input from my All-in-Wonder 2006 AGP card

    I have a All-in-Wonder 2006 AGP video card that has multiple video inputs. I got Flash Media Live Encoder to see my video card but when I connected one of the many video inputs it would not display in Flash encoder video preview. The audio did not come through either. I'm running in Win XP and the video card model number I believe is All in Wonder 2006 AGP 256M NA.

    What is the output format of this card? Is it encoded such as mpeg-2 or raw?

  • IMac Display failing after 1 year of average use.

    I have a mid 2011 27" iMac (the one with thunderbolt)  and the display is starting to fail after 1 year of average use (an hour of use every day on average).  The display is now much dimmer on the left half of the display (the GPU sits underneath that portion) and also flickers the whole display now and then to a lower brightness.
    I am about 45 days out of warranty and basically will have to cough up $500 to have it fixed by Apple.  My questions are...  Has anyone else ever had this happen to them?  The genius bar employee thought that it was something he has seen happen to displays when exposed to heat over long periods of time.  So basically playing starcraft 2 and doing video encoding killed my display if you believe that to be the cause.
    Are there any conditions in which apple would recognize this as a manufacturing defect and fix it free of charge?  Otherwise it looks like im writing a check for $500 next week.

    Today a dark streak showed up on my display right in the middle. It is shaped like a zebra stripe but is dark grey and wont go away.
    I too have a mid 2011 27" 3.4GHz i7 iMac with a 2GB Graphics card . Im about 50 days out of warranty.
    Seems like its perfect coincidence  for apple that 50 days after my warranty runs out, the most expensive thing to repair breaks.
    After doing some research it seems like there is a lot of people with this model experiencing this problem.
    Pretty sad that my 2005 iMac is holding up better than my brand new iMac.
    Been saving up for it for like 4 years and I dont have the money to repair it.
    I tried everything, I knew none of the stuff i tried would work but i still tried resetting the PRAM repairing disk permissions all that good stuff. I even have an air purifer/dehumidifier in my room so i dont know what caused it.
    I didnt think i needed applcare because ive had my other imac since 2005  without a hiccup.
    Ive rendered out 3d animations using the cpu at 100% for days and it still runs fine.
    Havent even used my new imac for anything that would put stress on it.
    What i do notice is that it runs hot all the time. ever since I got it. Sometimes just doing basic stuff such as browsing safari it can get so hot where i cant touch it. my GPU normally stays at around 70C and the hottest its been was 80C which is still safe. The alluminum is supposed to transfer heat better but all it does is retain heat more and get super hot. the old plastic one i have is 10x cooler.
    What i did notice today tho when my screen problem happened, is that the GPU temperatue is at 50C and wont go above it. I monitor the temperature with istat  and never have seen it at 50C and below unless i am just doing a fresh boot.
    What really concerns me tho is how the screen went out so close to when my warranty expired.

  • Why am I not seeing file.encoding option in file sender/receiver communicat

    Good Morning Everyone,,
    I am not able to find file.encoding option in both sender/receiver communication channels on my XI system.  Is it something to do with Java Runtime character sets installed on the XI system?
    Do we need to setup something to make it available?  thanks in advance...

    Hi,
    Please specify File Type parameter as Text (By default it is Binary)
    For File type parameter Text the file encoding will be displayed, UTF-8 is by default encoding used.

    The Extra Text is not to be seen now. That’s good. But I have another issue now. The email skips new lines.
    If I have a new line in between the two blocks , the email skips the new line.
    e.g. If I had to sent the following data:
    "Line1
    Line2"
    It appears as "Line1 Line2" in the end. The new line is skippeed.
    Appreciate if someone can tell me the reason/solution.

  • How to display Arabic content in JSP ?

    Hi all,
    I used the following encoding method to display arabic content in JSP page.
    <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" pageEncoding="UTF-8"%>
    <meta content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" http-equiv="content-type"/>
    I also set -Dfile encoding=ISO-8859-6 in the JVM Options.As a result the arabic data is getting displayed .
    Variable "data" contains the actual arabic data.
    function updateArabicData(data){
    try{
    document.getElementById('divtag').innerHTML=""+data;
    }catch(err){
    <html>
    <body>
    <div id="divtag" lang="ar-sa"></div>
    </body>
    </html>
    But the problem is the arabic data getting displayed in JSP (within the <div>)seems to be jumbled up.The users say that the arabic words within a single sentence are not arranged correctly.They are mixed up.Please help me with a solution.

    Data is retrieved as follows
    if(msg.getField("GEN_UNICODE_MESSAGE_1")!=null){
    resultString=resultString+"N"+""+new String((byte[])msg.getField("GEN_UNICODE_MESSAGE_1").value.get(0),"ISO-8859-6");
    with content Type set as response.setContentType("text/html;charset=ISO-8859-6");
    ISO-8859-6 -since the data contains arabic news.

  • IPod Touch (2.2) Safari Text Encoding

    My wife navigated Safari to a web page with Thai text encoding. It displayed just fine. But, now Safari seems to be "stuck" with Thai text encoding and will not properly display web pages with other text encodings.
    How does one set the text encoding on the iPod Touch version of Safari?

    The situation happens when you open a Western encoded page from a link on a non-Western encoded page. So, if my wife opens the Thai Bar Association page (Thai encoded) and then follows a link to a Western encoded page, that page will be improperly displayed. The solution is to bookmark that page, close all open pages and then go to the page from the bookmark. Awkward, but it works.

  • UTF-8 encoded character

    Hi there,
    I need to read data from xml file which encoded Japaneses characters in UTF-8. How can I read these UTF-8 encoded characters and displayed them correctly in my swing GUI in Japanese? Anybody got any idea? Thanks much in advance!
    Sarah

    First it is best to have the encoding attribute of your xml file set to UTF-8 to make sure the xml parser won't throw an error. (I don't remember what is the default encoding if you don't set it but reading a xml file isn's a big issue.)
    As for the GUI, if the application will run on different language OS, it is best to set the font for all the components. (I know this maybe overworked but it will make sure that every component can display correctly. For setting the font to be used, it is best to use resource bundle. If you need more information on how to do it, take a look at the internationalization section of the Java tutorial.)

  • Inquiry: preserve and carry-over Creation & Modification Dates when encoding via AME

    Greetings. I need to encode a series of AIC offline files and it is critical that the Creation Date and Modification Date matches the original source file.
    Currently, my encoded AME files display Creation and Modification Dates and Times that represent the processing date and time.
    In other words, the files indicate "Today" rather than the day and time of the shoot (two days ago).
    I've FAQ'd and Help Manual'd this inquiry thoroughly to no resolve.
    Any ideas where I should look to help me maintain and preserve the original source file Date & Time?

  • Cf and encoding of source files ...

    hello,
    i need to set default encoding of cf, problem is that
    -Dfile.encoding
    no longer works (from jvm 1.4.1). how to do this ?
    thanks,
    jan

    no i mean encoding used while compiling cf code to java
    until now i discovered that used encoding equals to java
    encoding
    (file.encoding property of System class) that in windows
    somehow relates
    to locale used by user that runs cf. i want to explicitly
    choose encoding.

    Isn't this something handled in the header of your html page?

  • Problem with encoding euro sign in simple select

    select '€' from dual;
    should fulfill the requirements mentioned in
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/files/relnotes_v121.html#sec4
    But the Euro sign is displayed as a result only when connected to a DB with UTF8 encoding. When connected to a SBCS DB with encoding WE8MSWIN1252, ¬ is displayed instead. chr('€') displays 172, which is equal to the last byte of the UTF8 representation of the Euro sign \u20ac = e2 82 ac.
    The Euro sign is included in WE8MSWIN1252 with code 128, so I would expect the result of "select '€' from dual " to display correctly in both cases.
    I have just downloaded the current version Oracle SQL Developer 1.2.1, java version is 1.6.0_02-b06.

    This is what I am trying to establish. This forum is about Oracle SQL Developer, so the example was for SQL Developer. Yes, you do not need the feedback on command.
    My point is that for a number of my colleagues, all using the database encoding WE8MSWIN1252, we do not see the upside down question mark. In SQL Developer, we see the correct Euro symbol.
    I will continue to investigate this issue.
    I have tested this using NLS Settings for German, France, Ireland, United Kingdom and America, for my database with encoding WE8MSWIN1252. These all display the correct euro symbol and not an upside down question mark, whether I use the data tab in the table definition grid, or by running F9(run statement) or F5 (run script) in the SQL Worksheet in SQL Developer.
    You do not need to send me any configuration files. Just confirm that you are on the latest release , 1.2.1.32.13 and have not replaced any files once you installed this release. I will also work with our internationalization team to track down the issue. Currently the only difference is the Java version you are using.

  • Ldapsearch with a base64 encoded filter?

    I am trying to conduct an ldapsearch on an instance with the base64 encoded value of uid.
    ldapsearch -v -T1 -e  -b "dc=example,dc=com" -p 389 -D "cn=directory manager" -j /ldap/tools/ldappwd uid=ZG1pcmFuMDLCoMKgwqDCoA==
    I have attempted many different filters with zero luck.  Some of them are:
         uid:base64=ZG1pcmFuMDLCoMKgwqDCoA==
         uid:b64value=ZG1pcmFuMDLCoMKgwqDCoA==
         uid::base64=ZG1pcmFuMDLCoMKgwqDCoA==
         uid::b64value=ZG1pcmFuMDLCoMKgwqDCoA==
         uid=[ZG1pcmFuMDLCoMKgwqDCoA==]
         uid='ZG1pcmFuMDLCoMKgwqDCoA=='
    The decoded value appears like this.
         uid=dmiran02Â Â Â Â
    I was just curious if there was a method to search on the base64 encoded value of ZG1pcmFuMDLCoMKgwqDCoA==.  Some OID value that must be specified or something?

    This is expected.
    Check out this link - http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2849.txt. Please go through LDIF and LDAP Specification.
    You might need to run a script to decode the values that are base 64 encoded, and then display them in a UTF-8 locale.
    Use the -B option in ldapsearch to show  without the encoding,
    HTH.
