Encoder polarity
Hello,
I'm using a MXI controller card to a PXI 7344 motion controller and a NI MID-7654 servo drive.
The servo works, but the encoder counts in the negative direction. I can changed "line A" to active high and the encoder counts positive, but the motor moves too far and I get following errors. I have tried different combinations of lineA/LineB/index active high/low, but the current setting is the only way that I have found to avoid the errors. Any suggestions?

I agree with AK2DM. There is no standard that defines which is phase A and B of the encoder, so you typically have a 50% chance to find the correct setting right from the start. In older NI-Motion versions you would have had to change the wiring, but in newer versions you just need to adjust the settings in MAX.
If your motor still doesn't move correctly, this sounds like a tuning issue. Please visit the Understanding Servo Tune tutorial for more information about this topic.

How do you reverse the polarity of a track in GB?
I use GarageBand to mix multi-channel audio (while listening to a stereo mix) then export it to A.Pack or SurCode for the final 5.1 mix to disc. I have a less than one year old Pioneer 7.1 receiver and 5 polk audio speakers from my attempted home theater that i now occasionally use to watch DVDs on my mac (using the optical audio). I was wondering if i would be able to set the tracks to certain balances (i.e. FL -127 C+0 FR+127) to output a form of Dolby pro logic to my reciver to simulate a final mix, but to get a rear channel in the mix, i would need to make one of my rear tracks' polarity reversed. Is there a plug-in to do this, or any other suggestions?
A quick trawl in Google didn't throw up any Audio Units which would reverse the phase, but possibly if you did a more exhaustive search you might find one. This would be the easier answer.
Otherwise you could do it by getting 'Amadeus II' from
http://www.hairersoft.com
This costs $30.
To do this: choose the tracks you want to be on the rear channel. Centre them with the pan control and mute all the others. Export to iTunes. drag the resultant file to the dekstop and open it in Amadeus. Select one channel only.
From the 'Effects' menu choose 'Stereo Utilities' then 'Invert Phase'. Save, and then drag the file back into GarageBand. You can now mute or delete the tracks which made up this rear channel.
Strictly, to be a proper Dolby ProLogic track the rear channel should be Dolby B encoded: it might be worth turning up the top a bit to allow for this.
Remember that in playback on a ProLogic decoder the rear channel is filtered below 100Hz and above 7kHz (it is only intended as an effects channel). -
Apple Mail cannot encoding issues (Chinese Asian Language)
I've abandon Mail for almost 2 years, 2 issues I had before is the 'disappearing mail' and the encoding problem.
Now with my new MBP 17" I decided to use Mail again. I am getting the encoding problem again.
Things I tried already:
1. set the default encoding using Terminal to "BIG5"
2. check under 'Composing' preference for 'Plain Text', uncheck 'use the same message format as the original message'
3. Tried manually setting the encoding before sending. But in few instance Apple Mail tells me that there is an Error and cannot change the encoding. Even I succeeded in changing the encoding, there is no guarantee that the other side can read it properly.
This usually happens when I 'reply' or 'forward' a Chinese email to someone. So far it happens to the HTML type email.
Still I am getting problem sending mail that Outlook can properly decode by itself. To fix this from the Oulook side, they need to open the message by double click, select encoding for the message, and pick either UTF-8 or BIG5 (if the message is BIG5, select UTF-8 and vise versa) then the message will display properly.
I know this could be an Outlook problem (probably is) but I cannot tell my customer to change encoding each time. I really need a way to do this from the Apple Mail side.
The following is just one example of HTML email I replied and turns out to be BIG-5 under Outlook, but user need to select UTF-8 to view it.

Hi xxxx...... (body of the message)
I need help here, I still like the operation in Apple Mail but this is killing me. Please help. Thanks but I tried these already. Didn't seem to work.
I switched to Thunderbird. Took a while to convert my mailboxes (30+ of them) from emlx to mbox and loaded into Thunderbird.
Thunderbird is ok, address book really ***** since it doesn't work with the OSX Address book at all. I had to use vcf2ldif to convert address book but the Chinese character in the Address Book all became ??? in Thunderbird. And the time it takes to convert 400+ address is long (I already filtered the address book from my 1000+ contact)
Font setting in Thunderbird is not good as well. Emails in my folders are in different fonts all the time due to the difference in encoding. I just need to get used to it.
If Apple Mail can just handle encoding better, I will never switch. Both my customer and my family are having same problem, (because we all read/send Chinese Traditional email) Apple should do something. Already send email regarding this to Apple, and if there are other people with the same problem as me, pleas let Apple know about this. -
Encoder position not automatically resetting on z pulse
I am using a PCI-7344 motion control card with a UMI-7764 break out box. Connected to this is a Pepperl & Fuchs 1024 line encoder.
Problem 1
The encoder counts up and down ok but gives 4096 counts between z pulses and not 1024.
Problem 2
The position does not automatically reset to zero when the z pulse is seen.
The encoder connections have been checked via oscilloscope for correct relationships (z is high when A and B are both low), but when mapping the encoder signals to RTSI signals and monitoring them, the signals are inverted.
I've tried a lot of combinations of polarity and phasing but all to no avail. What's going on??!
Attachments:
Encoder_test.vi 42 KB1. The 7344 rather counts quadrature signals and so the number of pulses it will count will always be 4 times the number of encoder lines. On all encoders I have seen just the number of encoder lines per revolution is specified.
2. Unless you are using a Find Index command the 7344 won't reset the encoder pulse counter. There is more than one application where the encoder will make several turns during a full motion cycle - remember a geared drive or a worm gear drive. If the motor/encoder has to make more than one revolution to complete its motion cycle resetting the pulse counter each time the index pulse occurs would be quite disturbing.
AFAIK with the latest firmware/software version it is no more necessary that both A and B are low when the index pu
lse occurs, you can set the actual state of A and B when index occurs with a special command.
BTW in cases the encoder/motor will make several revolutions you should use a separate home switch to detect proper zero position of the drive, of course using the Find Home command. It can be combined with (or rather followed by) a Find Index command to detect the zero position more precisely. -
Media Encoder issues Photoshop 13.01 CS6
Hi
I was happily making videos last weekend. This weekend I went to render the fist vidoe and gotr an error message. "Could not complete the Render Video command because of a problem with Adobe Media Encoder". I amusing the default settings in the render menu. Adobe media encoder - Quicktime - animation hight quality - document size 1920 x1080 - document frame rate 29.97 - field order progressive - aspect document 1.0 - all frames.
Help!
CheriHI-
I'm running Windows 7. Details from Photoshop. I've restored my computer to an earlier date to see if something accidentally crushed the codecs. It's odd because i havent' used my computer hardly at all since i made the great videos two weeks ago.

Hi,
I'm using a PXI-7358 to interface a third party drive and servo motor in a bench test proir to installation.
When outputing a positive command signal for clockwise motion the motor ran in reverse i.e. counter clockwise. Can the polarity of the command signal be changed in MAX?
This has been solved by changing the motor setup to have a ccw forward direction but I would prefer to change the polarity in MAX as that way the encoder feedback would agree between MAX and third party motor driver software.
Also when bench testing a motor is it neccesary to provide an appropraite level of resistance?
I have resorted to reducing the max and min torque voltage outputs from -+ 10v to 0.5v.
Wthout this measure when using One-D interactive MAX output the maximum 10v no matter what rpm was requested in velocity opetration mode. When using position mode, output would initailly be maximum in the wrong direction (question 1) or a square wave of +-10V. Auto tune also produced maximum PID values. I'm guessing MAX starts by outputting maximum voltage at the start of a move inorder to delivery maximum torque then adjust according to encoder feedback. The reason I'm bench testing is the device that will be motored is v. expensive so i would like to be confident with the system before i install it.
many thanks
DarrenHi
scoobydont,
I hope your well.
I was wondering if you could give me an update of your application?
Im more familiar with stepper motors, which you can change the polarity of the direction signal (which inverts both the step and the dir lines).
Could you also state again what your trying to do, and I will try to answer the points,
Are you trying to tune your servo motor? there are some excellent KBs on this.
With the benefiting, I would have thought you would need to test it at appropriate level of resistance, otherwise your values maybe erroneous.
Kind Regards

Polar plot scale numbers "truncated"
I have a strange problem when using the polar plot VI.
Labview 2012 latest SP, running on a cRIO9074. I'm running a servo motor for one revolution while measuring the runout on an armature using a linear position sensor.
The data looks good, but for some reason, the scale labels truncate after two decimals, no matter what I set the precision to. I'm sending it a cluster of two double precision arrays.
When I run the Labview example, it works fine I can change the number of decimals viewed to 10 if I need to. I've tried keeping everything the same as the example.
Any ideas?
See picture.
The sample VI works fine, (I can set the precision to 6 and I will see 6 decimal positions. )Thanks for the response, Kurt. With the help of a colleague, we were able to determine that this behavior is only when the VI is running on the cRIO.
(I think it was called "Polar Plot Demo.vi", but yes the VI is "Polar Plot with Points Option.vi"
We verified this by running the example vi first from windows (works fine), then ran it on the cRIO. On the cRIO it truncates decimals depending upon what font size you use. If you use a REAL TINY font, it will include more decimals. When running in Windows, the graph appears to move left to accomodate for more decimal place. When running on the cRIO, it appears to cut the picture off on the right side.
Following is our setup, but as stated above, we sent the demo program to the cRIO (didn't use any I/O) and the problem occured.
We're using Labview 2012, latest updates applied.

NI-9411 to read an Ono Sokki position sensor (quadature output from two channels, resolution is .0001 mm.
Ethercat set up using the "getting started" manual for the NI supplied AKD servo drive and motor.
All hardware works fine and data collected looks good. Test is to turn motor and collect servo position and linear encoder position.
Data has 4 decimal places coming in. -
Tuning a servo while encoder gives negative position feedback
I want to tune my servo motor (voice coil) manually in MAX. Stable step response is possible, but two problems occure:
1) When the step is done, the curve displayed on the "Calibration>Servo tune>Step response" tab shows an excitation step line from -70000 to the value I entered under "step length", although I reset the current position in the "1-D interactive" to zero beforehand.
2) No matter how I change the "step length" value or Ki, the motor step always goes from this above mentioned -70000 to +50000.
To facilitate any hint, mazbe this causes the problems: My encoder head is mounted the way that it gives back negative count values in the positive motor direction. Does this have to be changed or is it possible to also tune the servo with this negative encoder position feedback. Is it even possible the position feedback from - to + within MAX?
Thanks in advance for any help.Customer solved the problem:
"Sehr geehrter Herr Wagner,
Gewicht vertikal kontrollieren lassen.
Ihnen nochmals vielen Dank für Ihre Unterstützung.... Die nächsten
Probleme kommen für mich bestimmt.
Freundliche Grüsse,

Adobe media encoder error in photoshop
Hi everyone! This morning i have tried to render a video timelapse in photoshop but it showed to me an error which says:''Could not complete the render video command because of a problem with Adobe Media Encoder''.Could anyone tell me how can i fix this error?
Nobody can tell you anything without proper system info or other technical details like exact versions, render settings, details about the source files and so on.

Hello there ;-)
In After Effect CC u can render picture sequences using a filname like: "Project_[#####].jpg". The [#####] is replaced by the framenumber when rendering. When i render a picture sequenc in Media Encoder CC i Don´t have that oportunity. It allways starts with a Number like 000001. My Question - is it possible to change that in the encoder? So that i have the Frame number in the filename like in After Effect CC? If yes - how? I haven´t find anything!
THANX for your help!I have this issue too. It makes After effects impossible to use with media encoder. What we want is the actual frame number from After effects
Example
I have a 5000 frame AE export.
I can export the lot from AME
Render0000.png - Render5000.png
Client makes a change to Frames 4500-5000
Try and render Work area to AME
Result = Render0001.png - Render0499.png
The only way to keep file numbers is to use AE's render Queue which seem to be way slower than AME? -

Media Encoder CC mpeg2 Question
Basically what the title says. Where exactly is the option to format a video into an mpeg2 file? I've been Googling this to death. I know I've seen some people say they had it, then it disappeared. But I literally just downloaded Media Encoder and its nowhere to be found. Even under the DVD and Blue-ray section, the only options are for Blue-ray. I need to burn a wedding video onto a DVD. Is there something special you have to do to get this done? Are there limits on the free trial version that don't allow mpeg2 downloads? Help!
Are you using AME CC 2014? MPEG2 is included in AME under more strict license than other formats and is only activated only if you have Premiere Pro CC 2014, AfterEffects CC 2014 or Prelude CC 2014. If you are using them under a free trial, MPEG2 becomes unavailable after a trial period expires. After a trial has been expired, AME CC 2014 can be used extra 30 more days, but without MPEG2.
If you already used up a trial period, you can either 1) install one of three apps I mentioned earlier that you haven't installed before and activate it as a trial or 2) purchase a subscription for Creative Cloud. #1 option allows you to use MPEG2 30 more days. With #2 option, you can use MPEG2 as long as you keep your subscription active. I hope this helps. -

I've been succesfully working with media encoder for sometime now but it won't start for some reason. Using Mac OS 10.6.8, icore 7 proc, 16gb RAM, Encoder CC 6.0.2 what's causing this?
Thanks, It started working after I logged into my Adobe account. Curious if that had anything to do with it. I also tried a few options (similar to this) I found in the forum which didn't help until I restarted. Not sure which one did it but it's all good now. Thanks!
