Encoding difference on faster CPU?

I have a DVD I'm finishing for a client. The movie is 2hrs and 6min. I had to compress using the DVD 150min fast encode setting to get it to fit on the DVD.
I'm having a lot of choppiness in the burned DVD on playblack, some blocky pixelation. My question is, will I see a better encode using a faster CPU? I encoded on a Powerbook G4 1.3GHZ /1GB Ram. Would I see any better encoding on a Macbook 2GHzIntel? I have one I could borrow to try it on. Or am I just going to see the this kind of encoding because I'm compressing such a huge file?
Thanks!
Chris

The errors described sound like disc burn speed problems to me.
The way to find out is to use DVDSP to "BUILD" but NOT "FORMAT" a "software DVD". i.e. a folder that holds a "Video_TS" and "Audio_TS" folder. After the BUILD is complete you can drag the Video_TS folder on to DVD PLAYER in the Dock. It should open up the dvd as if you inserted an actual disk. You may have to press the spacebar to begin playback.
Check for the pixelyness there. If it is present, then it IS from the encoding, because it's not on dvd media. If it plays back smoothly from the hard drive, then you know the problems are happening during the burn.
You can also burn your software dvd to DVD disk using TOAST, where you can also burn at a lower speed. 1 or 2 x's should do it. Burn as a data dvd with UDF format and only the two "VIDEO_TS" and "AUDIO_TS" folders.
If you have smooth hard drive playback but still problems from a slow burn, then the media (brand of DVD-R) is the culprit. Choose a different brand. But before you do, test the slow burn on a different DVD player. The DVD player may be the culprit.
Good luck.

  • Difference between DB CPU and DB Time

    Hi,
What is the difference between DB CPU and DB TIME in AWR report?
    Br,
    Raj

    Hi,
    Thanks for your valuable reply.
1,DB CPU is time spent on CPU. It means only ACTIVELY working on CPU. WAIT TIME is not includeed.
In 10 Minute interval with four CPU, Is the Maximum DB CPU 40 Minutes?
2,I read the below document about DB time. http://www.perfvision.com/docs/JB_AAS.pdf
I unable to understand at page 6.
It says that DB Time = Includes CPU Time + IO Time +  Wait Time
    I understand about Wait time.
CPU also involved  to do I/O Time? Is it RIGHT?.Hence, Why did seperate CPU Time and I/O time in the document? What is the purpose of it?
Is it possbile to further divided the CPU TIME ? Like parse etc.....Which view provide it?
3,If you had four sessions actively working or actively waiting 100% of the time in that 10 minute period, then your DB time would be 40 minutes.
In a given interval,Where can i find NON Idle wait time in AWR?
    Plese help me out it

  • Font encoding difference and how to possibly change

    Hey all,
I am hoping someone can help explain and possibly answer the dilemma I am facing.  We are using an ERP software system that generates pdf files for its report output.  The output is designed by developers, but the actual generation of the pdf is done within the ERP batch engine where the design developers have no access.
I am designing a report that uses a TrueType barcode font.  When this batch report runs on a windows box, the output looks just great.  That's the good news.  The ERP software runs on an iSeries (IBM AS400) and the output is just not the same...the barcode does not render any of the 'special characters' of the font (ie ascii values > 122).  I am absolutely positive that my barcode string contains the correct hex values whether run in windows or on the iSeries.
This ERP report generator produces a pdf with the barcode font embedded in the document.  The only thing I see that is different between the two platforms is when looking at the document properties on the font tab, the windows embedded font has an endoding of: ANSI.  Whereas, the encoding on the iSeries gen'd document is: Standard.
So finally to my questions:  What does this difference in encoding mean?  Can this encoding difference have anything to do with why the font is rendered differently?
Can the encoding of an embedded font be changed after the document has been created?  If so, how?
I've attached a copy of each platform's output.

There are many valid ways to encode a font in PDF not all of which guarantee that the content can be extracted in a usable fashion - ONLY that the text be displayed correctly.  So as long as the text is displayed as expected, the company is (most likely) following the rules of valid PDF - though that doesn't mean that the PDF is usable for all contexts.
If it doesn't work for you, you need to contact them and express the concerns and ask that they change their methodology to work in all cases.

  • Can I install a Faster CPU?

Ii have a HP dv6000 CTO model ez796AV laptop. It has the Intel core 2 duo 1.6 ghz cpu. (T5200 I think) Is it possible to install a faster cpu and if so what cpus can I install? (perfer something above 2.0 ghz)

Yes it is possible but not easy. The safe thing to do is look at the original processor option list in the Manual and get the fastest of those processors.
    Manual
Page 3-9. Looks like the T7200 is your best bet. It is 2 ghz and widely available.
The Manual will also show how to install it. Warning, not easy as I said.

  • Encoding settings for fast preview

Is there any suggestions for the encoding settings in adobe media encoder to produce fast preview of Premiere CS4 project? I have done about 40 minutes long project with lots of effects and I just wanted to view the result on big screen, the quality can be very poor - all I wanted to do is to check the whole movie before exporting it to high quality Blu-ray.

Launching uncompressed transcoding will produce huge file. I wonder, if there are some kind of draft transcoding settings/codecs which can be used to just preview final material. I already know, that when transcoding 1080p material with lots of effects will consume huge amount of processor resources. For example ~30min long project was transcoded to 1080p format in 5h. Regular DVD format needs only 3h to complete in AME-CS4. Is this time can be even shorter, with very low quality material (only for preview)?

  • Upgrading to a faster CPU

I am wondering if I can upgrade to a faster CPU.  I have an AMD E1-6010 APU with AMD Radeon R2 Graphics 1.35GHz.  This CPU is too slow for what I do on this lap top.  I do a lot of gaming and it's just not fast enough.  I'd like to upgrade to a faster CPU if at all possible. Thank you.

Looks like you would have to replace the motherboard. Your manual here. http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-15-Notebook-PC-series/6545564/model/7450432/manuals/ REO

I encode edits created on Premiere Pro CC 2014 to main profile H.264/12Mbps but they are not being turned around nearly as fast as I thought they would for a PC with my kind of specs, when observing the task manager during an encode I can see that the CPU utilization only goes up to a maximum of 64% (averaging at around 45-55%), meaning that a 30min sequence can take as long as 45mins to complete.
Is there a way of getting any more horse power from my computer?  I have invested in this solution as i need to turn around clips very quickly but at the moment the performance is not living up to my expectations.

  • Is the "512GB PCIe-based Flash Storage" on the new mac worth the extra cost?  I am comparing with a refurb with better specs (faster CPU, larger hard drive) and from what I undersand the PCIe flash storage is the big differentiator in cost.

hello - i am considering two macbook pros
    NEW - http://store.apple.com/us/buy-mac/macbook-pro?product=ME294LL/A&step=config#
    REFURB - http://store.apple.com/us/product/G0ML1LL/A/refurbished-macbook-pro-27ghz-quad-c ore-intel-i7-with-retina-display
The refurb actually has a faster processor and a larger hard drive.  From what I understand, the big difference in cost is the new macbook pro contains "512GB PCIe-based Flash Storage" versus the refurb "768GB Flash Storage".
Is the PCIe flash storage really worth the extra cost (and smaller size)?
PS - Also I believe the brand new one has 2 GB graphics memory as opposed to 1 GB graphics memory.  I don't really care about that as much as I won't be doing a lot of video editing or gaming.

Some are some are not. Otherwise Apple has a ton of Mac's sitting around that have been returned by customers under their 14 day No Questions Asked return policy.
But they not just Returned and Resold. They go back to Apple, checked out (Tested) any parts that are not up to spec replaced and then repackaged in a plain white box to be sold as refurbs.

  • REVISITED  "DVD: best quality" & "MPEG-2 high quality encode"-difference??

Re-explain: I see "DVD best quality" and "MPEG-2 high quality encode" have all the same settngs. Not sure if there was a difference. Yesterday I was convinced no difference. After recompressing the same video at same settings MPEG-2 HQ encoding took three times longer to compress. going to work with it--this was home work--to view on monitor that, after reviewing, made me come home to recompress.
So--again--is there a difference fo the two choices???

which is what I did and there is no difference in seetings or what I have to choose for seetings. So, I guess--or confirmed--there is no difference???

  • Media Encoder only using 15% CPU, and system slows to cement

Not sure what's going on, but trying to export from Premiere CS6 to Media Encoder and very basic 640x360 H264 4 minute clips are taking 40 minutes, only using 15-30% CPU (on 2011 Macbook Pro 2.3 core i7), and the system slows to a cement crawl (had to stop it just to type this post). Nothing else is using any CPU and RAM is 25% free.
I don't even know where to begin to troubleshoot. Tried restarting is all so far. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Brandon

It seems there is a problem with the Mercury Playback Engine on my MBP. I turned it off and switched to software only mode, and now CPU is screaming at 750% on export and estimated time is about 8 times faster

  • Encoding finished so fast, I wonder if there's something wrong?

Hi experts! (what would we do without you!!?)
I just sent a short iMovie to iDVD. Then I added a slide show that I had made in iPhoto. This might be the first DVD I've burned since installing iLife 6 and Tiger, but checking the project info to see the encoding blue status bars traveling oh so slowly, I planned to go find other things to do while this encoded most of the morning. At first I saw the blue bars.... then iDVD unexpectedy quit and wasn't responding so I did a force quit and started over, thinking it was some gliche.
Then I got it started again and the status didn't seem to be happening. I saw no blue bars even starting at all! I thought this must be going to really take some time if the blue hasn't even appeared yet...
Then all of a sudden they both said "done". Now this was just a few minutes. I am skeptical. Could it REALLY be done already? I want to believe it but I don't believe it could go that quickly.. UNLESS, and some of you might know this, the new iDVD 6 is really fast and efficient.
Please share your opinion(s) on this.
    THANKS!!

It is a pretty cool disk. We (my daughter who is 14) incorporated images of their field trips, amusing events, sports + we dug up old baby photos + from kindergarten, concerts, field trips - for the first part. She did a very artful and selective use of transitions (not junky... or disorganized). They got the grad photos and we placed them to the left side on a black background so that the words could be read as they scrolled over. Each graduate was introduced with their name, then the scrolling grad photo/blurb followed by a 3 second fade through a close up of their "normal" attire. Music was running through the entire disk - mostly popular songs but of a pace that was suited to the content going by. Upon Len's suggestion, I picked up the Epson Photo Printer 220 at Best Buy (only $99 after mail in rebate!!). It works wonderfully. Now to burn 55 of these once we get "committee approval".
    cheers

  • Faster CPU necessary for multitasking?

I need a new macbook, primarily for photo editing and mild video editing on a portable, fairly powerful machine. I've gone for this configuration
    (http://s7.postimg.org/pa4dyex57/image.jpg)
I have one dilemma though, I do a lot of multitasking, particularly working with presentations, having lots of safari tabs open, keynote, pages and even gimp/photoshop running in the background for editing graphics. I used to have a late 2012 macbook with the nvidia 650m GPU, quad core 2.4Ghz processor 8GB ram.
But after spilling coffee all over that machine, I realised it was way to bulky and heavy for carrying around. So I thought the current configuration would be enough, until a noticed the 13' was only dual core, which means limitations to multitasking, but is it necessary for me to max out the configuration for CPUs on the 13' with 16Gb ram?

I would get the extra ram. RAM is cheap and you said that you like to like to have all your apps needed open and running. The CPU is pretty much the center of everything in a computer. You can get the fastest processor in the world, but if you choke it by not having enough RAM or a slow HD the processor will not be as efficient. So a slower processor with more RAM and a faster HD will perform better. Having a well-rounded machine will always give better results than trying to skimp on other major components.
Computers are not much different than cars. You can buy a car with the most powerful engine in the world, then skimp on the transmission you end up with having an inefficient setup. So you end up with a car with the most powerful engine in the world, but not the fastest.
RAM not used is wasted RAM? - Yes it is, but it's variable. You may not need it some days but other days you do. By adding more RAM you get more consistent performance. This guy is working on presentations and probably deadlines, which can lead to a great deal of stress. Not having enough RAM on a day he really needs it could increase his stress level even further. Adding more RAM could actually be a healthy option as well.

  • Like to upgrade Presasrio CQ56 from Celeron (R) 900@2.2GHz to faster CPU

Based on HP diagnostics my CPU is the weakest link (3.3 out of possible 7.9).
    System Board: 1605  90.17)
    System BIOS  F.15
    Prod No XG635 UA#ABA
I would like to investigate the feasibility of upgrading this relatively inexpensive, 4 year old Notebook. I upgraded the
original harddrive to 500 GB (Seagate Momentus TX) and doubled the RAM to 4 BG (Crucial CT1901113).
The larger harddrive and doubling the memory has made it a faster system. Now the weakest link regarding speed is
    the processor.
Has anyone successfully performed such an upgrade? What, if any, problems came up, do you get full performance or
are there compromises? I assume here that you, who ever you are, got the correct components from the beginning and
they plugged right in (no hard-wire issue, wrong CPU model, hunting for the correct one, and finally getting it).
If you have been successful and were to do it all again, knowing now exactly how to go about it, would you do it again
and how hard would it be a second time around?
I would appreciate any input, but only from someone who has performed this upgrade. I prefer not to go on suggestions like "you could try this" and "or try that".
Please respond only If you really know.
Very important: What model CPU did you UPGRADE TO? Any suggestions where to buy?
    Thank You

    Hi 46scandalli2000 ,
Welcome to the HP Support Community! I see that you are looking to upgrade your processor. While I haven't done it myself I can provide you with some information on it. On most notebooks you have to replace the entire system board (motherboard) to replace the processor. However, in your model the processor is replaceable. Here is your Maintenance and Service Guide and on page 75 you will find a list of compatible processors and instructions for replacing it.

  • Difference between fast, turbo and ultra on kt6?

whats the actual difference in the bios  between fast, turbo and the ultra settings
    on the lsr kt600 motherboard?
    thx
    2hats

It all depends on the Type of ram used and quality as well witch will allow you to run in Ultra mode, "FASTCOMMAND"-Ultra allows the processor to handle dats/instructions at the fastest speed. in simple terms, faster in games and other Applications.
but need good ram to suport this feature or your windows will be very unstable
and thats not good at all.
