Encoding issue for some languages

hi,
i am building multi-lingual adf application.
i am using resource bundle (in properties file) to store all translation.
i am running into a strange issue, on 1 of the server (my local one running on windows), languages appear properly.
on another (dev box running on unix), some languages giving encoding issues.
where to check? any suggestions?

Web Service Response issue for some Requests

I have a WebService deployed on Oracle Application Server and it's an HTTPS connection. I am facing a small issue and can't figure out
what's going on. For each request there's a response returned. Sometimes the comsumer does not get the response back even though the request
is successfully processed and response generated but some how it never makes it to the consumer.
Here is the signature of the function:

being generated but some how it never makes it to the consumer. It normally takes arround 5 to 10 seconds to process each request and most
of time multiple requests may be being processed.

Hi there.
If the consumer of your service is a .NET client, it will silently ignore any response that is not formated as advertize in the WSDL and will return an empty object to the caller. As you are trying to use raw XML Element, it seams to be a potential explaination.
If you can turn off SSL in your test environment, you may want to run a TCP sniffer tool, on the host where your server is running. You can setup a filter on the IP @ of the consumer or the TCP port of the service comsumed. I'll recommend you look at ethereal as it's a cross platform utility.

Encoding issue for file manager

I am using the ditto command to duplicate a file. This file has unicode filename and as per http://developer.apple.com/qa/qa2001/qa1173.html I am first normalizing the name to kCFStringNormalizationFormD and then converting it to utf-8 before calling ditto on it. This all works smoothly but when I try to get the FSRef using the original unicode name I get fnfErr. Dosn't the API CFURLGetFSRef convert the string to kCFStringNormalizationFormD? Or is there any alternate for ditto on Tiger.

HP 4250 communication issues for some users

We have a 4250 that has been reliable. We run a domain and this printer was setup on the print server (win 2003). As we started to get Win 7 64 bit machines we could no longer run them through the print server, so they were setup to directly print to the printer via the fixed IP address.
A couple of days ago some users started to have problems with print jobs not coming out, coming out of the wrong tray, or printing backward. There have been no driver updates, or windows updates.
The problem is occuring on XP and Win 7 machines, some are printing direct and some through the server. The machine has been power cycled. On some machines that were currently not in use I tried the following:
Win 7 32 bit
Tried to add printer using HP install untility - chose Traditional mode - added port - entered IP adddress. Failed to find printer on network. (the printer responds to ping by address and name and I can browse to its admin page from this computer and all computers on the network)
Tried to add printer using HP install untility - chose Dynamic mode - when installed I went into the app and searched for network printers, it found the 4250 as well as another HP we have on the network. It listed its name and address. When it checked status it says - unable to communicate with printer.
Tried to add via windows add printer and add the port - it fails to add the port.
Tried to add via the server 2003 - success.
I have a problem in that I cannot add the printer through server 2003 on the 64 bit machines. I've tried browsing for the driver I know should work, but it says it isn't compatible.
So for the machines having problems I can't re add the printer as this only works through server 2003 for 32 bit machines.
Please help as I can't understand why the printer has stopped working for some people and I can't add it now directly to any machine (irrespective of 32 or 64 bit) and I can only add 32 bit machines through server 2003.

WS Deployed on Oracle App. Server, Response issue for some requests

I have a WebService deployed on Oracle Application Server and it's an HTTPS connection. I am facing a small issue and can't figure out
what's going on. For each request there's a response to let know the requester that data is processed successfully or any error. The caller of the Web Service makes a call and sends in an xml data. It's processed on my end and then a return type is an Element that holds the response data. Once in a while the caller does not get a response back even though on my end I don't see any errors and the data is processed successfully.

Language issue for some transactions

Hi,
We recently installed PT (Portuguese) language and found some problems with SAP Standard Transactions.
Some SAP standard transactions shows "Field label" in English when we login in PT language.
We tried applying SAP notes and activating the programs again but it dint work.
Do anyone has any idea about such problems?

My company has presence in brazil and now we will also be offering products to the brazil customer. In our initial analysis of local reporting requirements, we came across SPED regulations which require us to record the transaction data in portuguese and also transfer data electronically to the brazil regulators.
Do you folks have similar requirements and if yes, were those met via the SAP portuguese language pack? Can you please share your experience on how the language pack works? Does it translate data from English-->Portuguese at the database level or is it the UI that is just in Portuguese? Appreciate your feedback.

Apple Mail cannot encoding issues (Chinese Asian Language)

I've abandon Mail for almost 2 years, 2 issues I had before is the 'disappearing mail' and the encoding problem.
Now with my new MBP 17" I decided to use Mail again. I am getting the encoding problem again.
Things I tried already:
1. set the default encoding using Terminal to "BIG5"
2. check under 'Composing' preference for 'Plain Text', uncheck 'use the same message format as the original message'
3. Tried manually setting the encoding before sending. But in few instance Apple Mail tells me that there is an Error and cannot change the encoding. Even I succeeded in changing the encoding, there is no guarantee that the other side can read it properly.
This usually happens when I 'reply' or 'forward' a Chinese email to someone. So far it happens to the HTML type email.
Still I am getting problem sending mail that Outlook can properly decode by itself. To fix this from the Oulook side, they need to open the message by double click, select encoding for the message, and pick either UTF-8 or BIG5 (if the message is BIG5, select UTF-8 and vise versa) then the message will display properly.
I know this could be an Outlook problem (probably is) but I cannot tell my customer to change encoding each time. I really need a way to do this from the Apple Mail side.
The following is just one example of HTML email I replied and turns out to be BIG-5 under Outlook, but user need to select UTF-8 to view it.

Thanks but I tried these already. Didn't seem to work.
I switched to Thunderbird. Took a while to convert my mailboxes (30+ of them) from emlx to mbox and loaded into Thunderbird.
Thunderbird is ok, address book really ***** since it doesn't work with the OSX Address book at all. I had to use vcf2ldif to convert address book but the Chinese character in the Address Book all became ??? in Thunderbird. And the time it takes to convert 400+ address is long (I already filtered the address book from my 1000+ contact)
Font setting in Thunderbird is not good as well. Emails in my folders are in different fonts all the time due to the difference in encoding. I just need to get used to it.
If Apple Mail can just handle encoding better, I will never switch. Both my customer and my family are having same problem, (because we all read/send Chinese Traditional email) Apple should do something. Already send email regarding this to Apple, and if there are other people with the same problem as me, pleas let Apple know about this.

Login Issues for some users

Hey Folks,
I am running SMC 3.5X and am experiencing problems with some users not being able to login.
I can login as root and some other users, but some new users have the following issues.
1) Using the java console on solaris and windows appears to just timeout. I can see images getting loaded in the server.log file but then I get the message "The Sun Management Center is bing initialized. Retry?".
2) Using the web console I get the message "Error Getting domain Info"
In both cases is I appear to be able to login but can't access the data.

Getting domain Info"So, using the exact same Console on the exact same system... some users can get in and some can't, right?
I don't know what causes this, but I've seen it before as well. I think in my case it may have been because those users tried the SunMC web interface before the Java interface. If you login to the Java Console, the first time a new user connects it asks them what they want their default Domain to be. If you try to login to the web interface before you've set your Domain in the Java Console it seems to mess up SunMC internally to where you can never set your home domain properly. So you'll never be able to login to anywhere with that account.
I re-ran "es-setup -F" on my SunMC Server, and told it not to save the old info that was in the database. That's going to erase any old alarms you had, but in my case once I did that, and made sure all new users logged into the Java Console at least once before using the web page (to set their domain)... everything worked fine.
I don't know for sure what the problem was, but I've seen the same types of errors you did, twice, and both time those steps fixed it.

Change description general ledger master data not possible for some languag

Hi all,
We have a lot of language translation on tab Key word/translation for all G/L accounts. English is our log in language. When we want to change the description in Finnish, Norwegian and Danish this is not possible (this lines are grey, only display mode). We can´t remove these lines and we can´t change them. It is possible for all other languages except this languages and English. Does anyone have a clue why this is not possible?

I was asking if you can maintain a new description (for an account number where no description in one of the mentioned languages is entered) so the message "Description already exists in language XX" should not appear in that case...
In general, account descriptions are stored (for chart of accounts / language key) in table SKAT thus you can check the entries already available.
Did you contact the user-authorization responsible which authorization objects are assigned? FS00 contains authorization objects for account auth. group (F_SKA1-BES), company code (F_SKA1_BUK) and the whole chart of accounts (F_SKA1_KTP), maybe some change authorization (activity 02) is missing?

Column Encoding issue for user spreadsheet import via Wizard

Hi,
I'm trying to build an upload page for users, they should be able to upload spreadsheets into one of the tool's table.
I have built a "Data Load Page" via the Wizard on apex.oraclecorp.com which created 4 pages : data load, data/table mappings, data validation and data load results.
I do receive the correct mappings, however because some characters are double byte, hispanish and so on, I do receive weird characters in my rows. This data looks well in CSV (I save it in txt first as unicode text). Is there a way that I can force apex to grab my import and see char encoding as little endian?

I would simply like to make available to the user an option where he can change the character encoding (like UTF-8, little endia, big endian, western european windows etc) or make it little endian by default.
If this is not possible I'm open to any suggestions.

Front - end print with new access method G - having issues for some users

Recently we have implemented the new access method G for front-end printing. it is working fine for 90% users in our company. but some users having problems in printing to WINDEFAULT using this new method.

Usually this means, that some necessary controls are not properly registered in the registry and hence can't be found. You may solve that by removing the SAPGUI from the PC completely, booting the machine and reinstall the GUI.

Junk characters coming in the PDF report for Lithuanian language

hi all,
I am facing a problem like some junk characters are coming while generating the report in PDF format in Reports 10g.
Junk characters (i.e something like revere of ?(question mark)) coming only for the special characters in the report when my application language set it as LITHUANIAN_LITHUANIA.UTF8.
Actually our application is supporting multi langauges; like English, German, French, Lithuania etc.
And in the Forms the the characters are appearing correctly... but while generating reports only i am having this issue for LITHUANIAN language.
I am using back end as Oracle 10g verision 2, and front as Reports 10g only.
Is there any way to resolve it?

I updated the reports.sh which is in Oracle Home path initailly and tried the report. But its not coming properly, some other junk characters are appearing now for the special characters
For e.g:
Actual English word: Funct. Group Poultry Parts Fresh
Correct Lithuanian Word: Funct. Grupė naminių paukščių dalių, šviežios
In Report: Funct. GrupÄ— naminiÅ³ paukÅ¡Ä•iÅ³ daliÅ³, Å¡vieÅ¾ios
Steps i have done:
1. Modified reports.sh with nls_lang as LITHUANIAN_LITHUANIA.UTF8
2. Run the report, output was coming like above e.g.
Is anything wrong what i did?.
or Report engine(reports.sh) will support multi-languages by using the Environment ID only(as you explained before, putting ENVID in repserver.conf - reportserver.)

Encoding issue with Chinese and Japanese characters but not for Korean

Hi All,
I am dealing with the problem below and have tried a lot of options to correct this. Could anyone help me resolve the issue?
Some japanese text is returned to my jsp from SAP, the text looks like PTú÷»à .
When I manually set the encoding of my browser to Shift-JIS, the problem is resolved and the text is seen as １５日締当月末現金
However, I set my response.setContentType as Shift-JIS, the browser automatically selects the encoding as Shift-JIS, but my characters get displayed as ??????
I had a similar problem with Korean characters, and I used,
decodedString = new String(strToBeDecoded.getBytes("iso-8859-1"),"EUC-KR");
It worked and I did not have to use the setContentType method of servlet response. This code however does not work for either Japanese or Chinese characters.
Please let me know, if there is anyway of getting the characters right on the screen.
I am using Sun Java Application Server 8.1.

Get rid of legacy character encodings and just use UTF-8 all the way.

Critical issue for language lab! Quicktime Streaming broken for Guest

An issue reported in January is still apparently unfixed because we're experiencing the same problem as Jeremy. Here is his message, which had no replies (his message is between the dashes):

If I set the account to be managed it doesn't work. I cannot access QuickTime streams using Leopard's built in Guest account. If I set the the streaming transport to http I get "403 forbidden", if I set it to udp I get "-3285 Disconnected". Anyone know how to fix this? I do not have the "Website Restrictions" turned on for this account. That is to say, I have the the controls enabled to block specific applications, but I set it to "Allow unrestricted access to websites"
(on this point, you can't NOT have the parentalcontrols proxy running for some, infuriating, reason. If you want to manage which Apps a given account access to, the parentalcontrols proxy is enabled, and cannot be bypassed, even if select not to filter web content).
We set up a fresh Guest Account on our new iMacs that just came in. They're running 10.5.6 and Quicktime 7.5.5 (which I re-installed in an attempt to fix the issue). Like Jeremy, I get the Disconnected error when Quicktime is set to UDP and Forbidden when it's set to HTTP.
I have tried to use the latest Server Admin Tools to disable/enable Parental Controls and Application launching management, to no avail. I've repaired permissions several times. I've copied the Internet plug-ins to the Guest account directory (System - Library - User Template - English.lproj - Library - Internet Plug-Ins). I've tried the same thing with the Quicktime Preferences file from the admin account in which streaming is working. I have also tried giving every Internet plug-in max read-write permissions for every user and the folder, too. I disabled Parental Controls in the Guest Account. Nothing works.
We're going to have to completely re-make our lab image and re-image the lab, which is a huge undertaking because of this long-standing bug.

I believe I have partially fixed the issue.
Disabling Parental Controls in the Guest account when logged into the Guest account does nothing, despite the prompt for an admin username and password. One must log into an admin account directly to turn them off via the Accounts control panel.
Turning Parental Controls off allows us to once again view streaming movies via the Quicktime plug-in in a webpage. Hooray!
However, Parental Controls remains problem, so it behooves Apple to figure out why it is interfering with basic functionality like this. Another issue turning off Parental Controls solved is an issue with Adobe's Flash plug-in in the Panaorama web site, a language learning textbook. With Parental Controls on, the voice recording functionality via Flash is broken, too.

All was well until the events I entered on the phone were showing up in Outlook, but not the other way around. I’ve tried the usual recommended steps: deselecting calendar and contacts in the iCloud control panel and then re-selecting, signing out of the panel and back in, and repairing the Outlook installation in control panel. I even uninstalled iCloud on the PC and downloaded it again (same version).
The furthest I’ve gotten is step 2 (and once, step 3) of 7 while performing “Outlook Setup For iCloud.” At that point I get, “Your setup couldn’t be started because of an unexpected error.” After the first attempt at all this, all my calendar events disappeared from Outlook, although they are still in iCloud calendar and on my phone.
Sound familiar? Any ideas on how to solve this iCloud/Outlook issue? Thanks much in advance!
