Encoding movies for iPhone

What's the dang deal with Compressor's presets that are supposedly for the iPhone. It encodes to .m4v. But when I put those .m4v files into my folder where my iPhone syncs movies I've created, it won't sync the .m4v files.
Upon further investigation, I realized that all the movies I'd put in that folder, and which successfully synched to my iPhone, were all .mp4 files, not .m4v.
Why does Compressor's iPhone presents use the .m4v extension? ***?

That folder is for any content that you're happy to have inside the iTunes Media folder. If you want your movies on a different drive then you'll need to add them into iTunes manually.

How do you mean? I wonder if the XP version is the same as the Mac version. I think as a default Handbrake will respect the aspect ratio. It's only the quality you need to decide on.

Encoding question for iPhone

For some time now, we have exported our sermons for the iPod, and they work fine on iPods. But when we try to encode at a larger size for the iPhone or iPhone Touch, it doesn't work.
Export from FCE using MPEG-4, File format MP4 (not ISMA), Video Format H.264, Data Rate 60, Image Size 320 x 180 (we use 16:9), Frame Rate 15, Key Frame Automatic, Restrict Profile to Baseline, Encoding Best Quality (two pass).
Audio AAC-LC (Music), Data Rate 48, Mono, 44.100 kHz, Encoding Quality Best.
This plays on the iPod.
But doing the same thing with a data rate of 200, image size of 480 x 270, fps 29.97 the sound plays but the video does not play on the iPhone.
We don't want to use the default iPhone setting, because that gives us no control over the aspect ratio or the data rate.
Suggestions?

OK, now a slightly different question.
I thought that the iPhone was supposed to play .mov files, but when we compress the video using QT Conversion as a .mov file, the iPhone says this format is not supported. Here's what we're doing:
Export from FCE using QuickTime conversion:
Video settings: H.264, 29.97 fps, Key Frames Automatic, Restrict to 204 kbps, optimized for download, Frame reordering checked, Encoding Best Quality, size 484 x 272.
Sound settings: AAC, Mono, 44.100 kHz, Render Quality Best, VBR Constrained, 48-54, kbps.
Prepare for Internet Streaming checked, Fast Start, Compressed Header.

Encoding movies for iPad

Hi guys!
I'm currently upgrading a clients site for iPad support (video playback) and I'm have a VERY hard time producing videos that will actually play on iPad.
I'm using the following specification:
"H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;"
The software I'm using is Adobe Media Encoder and my preset fullfills all the requirements above but it just won't do and I've spent a whole day trying to get it work. iPad seems EXTREMELY picky about its videos. Ditching Flash might be a good idea but this is just insane.

Any help will be extremely appreciated because I already lost a whole day due to this!

Try encoding a small source video directly in iTunes and then check the specifications afterwards in Quicktime (QT). Better still, open the video in QT directly and export it for iPad playback. Then follow the first step above.

Batch encode video for iPhone on Mac and Linux

Hello everyone.
This may look like SPAM or unsolicited ad, but let me say that I have no other interests that avoiding people hours of research and tries I did, the software is open source.
That said, I finally managed to create a set of scripts to easily convert video from avi files or even mkv, to .mp4 files iTunes compliant that you can load on your iPhone.
The great news about this, for us, non-english people, is that it takes subtitles and burn them into the movie, so you can watch your favorites divx movies with subtitles.
This is mainly intended to run on Linux, but works nice on Mac OS X too.

Reducing size of iTunes movies for iPhone

Does anyone know how I can reduce the size of a movie purchased from iTunes before adding it to my iPhone? Movies I rip myself (from my own DVDs of course!) can be made quite small, but those iTunes beasts...well they're just chewing up my iPhone space.
Any suggestions? Mac OS X 10.5.8, iPhone 3G, and iTunes 9.0.1

Unfortunately, movies purchased from iTunes are protected by DRM methods and can't be compressed or transcoded without bypassing the DRM. Commercial video apps don't process protected media and discussion of methods that remove DRM is prohibited in this forum.

If you search the Apple web site, it will list for you which formats are compatible.

Syncing music, podcasts and movies for iPhone

I want to manually manage my music and movies but sync my podcasts. Is this possible? Once I change one setting it changes the rest to what I do not want.

If you put your ipod in manually manage then all content that can be used in that capacity e.g. music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, books, has to moved in that manner. the only thing that will sync automatically in manually manage is applications.
-You could always use playlists if you only like certain stuff on your device. I have 16,000 songs and my iPhone obviously wont hold that much. So, i created an iPhone playlist and changed my sync preferences so that only the one playlist syncs to the iPhone when i plug it in.

it is not officially supported. however, it can be done when you write your own makefile. how to call the compiler and necessary flags and so on see the "build results" output of xcode. it's like
/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/usr/bin/gcc-4.0 -x objective-c -arch i386
and so on. after you created the object files you create the library with the archive tool, like
ar -crv libwhatever.a Dada.o Bubu.o AnotherOne.o

Besides these problems, there is the battery, which was bad got worse, she is not lasting more than 10 hours, even without using the phone.

There are actually a lot of games and apps which are compatible with your older device which runs iOS 4.2.1. You just need a tool to separate them from the incompatible apps.

But gather everything that is already stored in my old icloud account (X) and save it in my device (iphone, ipad etc) and then continue using icloud but with my new account (Y).
In a scheme:

Step 1) data from X -> independent device data, and then the X account is removed from the device while the data stays.
Step 2) account Y is added to the device.
Step 2 continued) now the device has a. "the independent device data" that was drawn from the account X and b. the litte piece of data from Y that I have already created.
Step 3) independent device data -> data in account Y (along with everything that is created from now on, and everything that has been stored there. The little piece mentioned above.) Everything should now be merged in Y. Merged in a "good" way. Not overwritten, not deleted etc. Nothing should be lost (old or new, from the device or from X or from Y).
The last step is kind of optional. If the best I can get is having data associated to Y (future and past) AND "independent device data" that is so independent to the point that it cannot be added to my Y account since icloud recognizes and stores only data that is created after the account's addition to the device, then I can deal with that.
I hope I cleared everything out.
I need my notes and pages documents from my old icloud account to become independent device data and just stick to the device. And then, if possible, be uploaded to my new icloud account.

As3 - Map/Level help for iPhone + movement

I'm making an app for an iphone using CS5 and was wondering the best way to make a map or a level. I want it to be continuous until the player dies which will bring it to the end game frame. An example would be NinJump for iPhone. You keep going and going until you die.
Then my next question.. I feel stupid asking cause i feel like only i have this problem..whenever I do the hitTestPoint check my character goes through the floor in the middle. I tried changing the registration points but when I put it to the bottom for my character it just does swirls... not move so i kind of changed the code around to make it work but probably wont be best for slopes and stuff.

I am tring to learn Form Developer. The database and developer suites are installed in one PC. I don't think I am working in web environment.
Except the Mouse Movement Triggers, other mouse trigger work well, such as when_mouse_click, when_mouse_doubleclick.
