Encoding Problems- tried all fixes, still get -34506 and multiplexing error

I am having a lot of difficulty trying to burn a short (27-min) DVD. I have found lots of useful information and tips in this forum, but still am having no luck. Here are the specifics:
Movie details:
- 103 slides from iPhoto
- ~10 video clips from DV camcorder (12-bit sound, unfortunately, see below)
- ~5 video clips from digital camera (.AVI format)
- lots of transitions
- additional music track from iTunes
- no chapter markers
After working thru various problems and fixes from the forum with no joy (including deleting plist, clearing caches, deleting chapter markers, making sure video extends beyond audio track at end, and resetting computer) here is what I did most recently:
- exported sound from iMovie (AIFF), imported it into iTunes, then saved it as a 16-bit, 48kHz AIFF file (to resolve the 12-bit audio issue)
- pulled new AIFF sound file back into iMovie
- exported new full quality DV file from iMovie, using default settings
- imported DV movie into iDVD, added a theme ("Fun")
- saved as a disk image
Any ideas or additional tricks I could try? I thought that the DV export would resolve the multiplexing issue, and the sound issue would be resolved by the new AIFF file.
Help!

Sue,
Thanks for the tip... I looked at the linked page and the only additional item that I checked as a result was whether there were any 3rd-party QT plug-ins (I have none...)
However, I DID get the file to finally save as a disk image!!! I converted my video in iMovie to a DV stream (but omitted the audio). I then started a new iMovie project, loaded the video-only DV stream file, and separately loaded the audio-only AIFF file I had previously made. The first time I tried to burn this new project I had the same errors appear. Then I switched the quality to "Best performance", and it worked just fine - no errors.
I didn't see anyone else in the forums suggest that the quality setting (Best Quality) might be responsible for the multiplexing error. But that seems to have been the case for me. I wonder if those folks who got their problem fixed by trashing the plist was due to reverting to the default quality setting (Best Performance). And BTW, some additional searching on the forums seems to indicate that for short (<60 min) DVDs, the "Best Performance" setting is more-or-less the same quality. The quality of the DVD I burned certainly seems OK!

  • I have tried all fixes posted so far and still I have no hardware installed!

Hi ...I have a 2008 dual core Imac 27" since upgrading to lion...I have had all the symptoms(dropped connections ..unstable airport)  everyone else has and then after upgrading to 10.7.3 I now have lost my airport signal all together! I have tried everything everyone has posted and still when I tap the icon on the top of the screen it tells me "no hardware installed". What I did to escape this is ...erase a partition that was set up for bootcamp (which i never used) and then install the discs that came with the computer on that partition...then I upgraded to snow leopard (another disc I had)  and when I restart in this partition everything is fine...I have my airport connection ..no drops ...speedy browser etc.....but when I go back to Lion it still has no airport.....I tried a suggestion someone made about delete wifi in network settings and then add again ..so i tried this and thank god I had two locations set up because under that location I can not add wifi...because it is not recognized means it it is not there hence the computer gives me no option to add it again.
I noticed there was an update that people were saying was a fix, but unfortunately it is only for 2009 imacs and up. Does anyone think they will address that this is also effecting models before 2009?

You would restart the computer while holding Command R, which should bring you to Lion Recovery, provided that it installed correctly when you installed Lion.
Lion Recovery has the wifi icon in the upper right corner; if it recognizes your Airport card, then Lion should use your Airport card just fine, and your OS may simply need to be reinstalled to resolve your issue. Lion Recovery can't reinstall Lion without Internet, so it will prompt you to connect to wifi or use Ethernet.
I would get a firewire external HDD for backing up with Time Machine.
For Lion Recovery, here are the step-by-step instructions:
    1. restart holding Command R until you get a gray screen with an Apple and a spinning gear
    2. choose english as the main language and click the arrow pointing to the right
    3. in the top right corner of the Lion Recovery screen, click on the gray wifi icon and select your desired network, providing the password as necessary
At this point, if Lion Recovery sees your Airport card, it should allow you to connect to your network; if it doesn't see it, then you may need to use your original install discs that came with the computer to erase and install. Let's assume that wifi works in Lion Recovery. Then:
    4. select "reinstall" and click "continue"
    5. follow prompts to reinstall Lion on your Mac HD
If the issue persists when booted to Mac HD after reinstalling Lion, then erase/install:

When I open Fire fox I get 2 tabs. One is Google my Homepage and the other is Fire fox's page. I have tried all fixes under help and suggestions with no luck?
Also I want a new page to open in a Tab. I set it to and it defaults back to new window. Also tried all fixes? I have been using Fire fox since day1, I know it pretty well, never had a problem.

Can not start up on my Macbook pro. All I get is a grey spinning wheel. Tried all the Startup key combinations and nothing works. I reset the NVRAM and nothing. I booted with start up disk , ran disk repair and all is ok. Tried to re-install OS but when I get to designating drive its blank. When I go to startup disk there is a "?" mark. When I restart under startup disk search for a drive it still comes up with nothing.  Before I got the grey spinning wheel I had a locked screen. Could not move curser or click on anything. Finally just shut down. Thank you in advance for any help!

Shouldn't still have a 'beachballing'... if the drive is being found and the system is trying to boot from it but is having problems, I would suggest looking over ds store's user tip - Step by step to fix your Mac.
It's likely either something corrupt in your system files or a failing hard drive. But follow ds's steps until you find the cause of the problem.
    Good luck,

Any ideas on what to do next?
    I'm running and iMac 20-inch  early 2009
Processor  2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8.4 (12E55)

    Step 1
Quit Calendar. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Calendars/Calendar Cache
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a file named "Calendar Cache" selected.
Move the selected file to the Trash. There may be one or two other files in the same folder with names that begin in "Calendar Cache". If so, delete those files too.
    Step 2
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash as well:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders. It may take some minutes for ODS to list all the files.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

I plug my iphone 3gs into my laptop and it no longer syncs with my iTunes.  I've tried all the trouble shooting methods and nothing works.  My iPhone doesn't appear on iTunes or under "My Computer." Does anyone know how to fix this?

If AMDS is running, you are using a USB port directly on the computer and not a hub, you have disconnected other USB devices except keyboard and mouse, you have completely uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes as described in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925, You have tried cleaning the connector on the bottom of the phone, you have tried a different cable, you have installed the latest USB drivers for your computer, you have disabled your antivirus and firewall, you are running as an Administrator account and you have tried creating a new user on your computer and connected when logged in as that user then you have exhausted my knowledge. The only other thing to try is a different computer. If it isn't recognized on a different computer you have a hardware problem. Good luck!

  • Tried the fix from last contact and still does not look right.

I tried the fix that you recommended and that had no effect. The colors on some web sites are off to the point that I can not read the material since the colors are so dark or even one site came up with an all black background that I never had that before on that site. Some sites are scrambled so much that it shows the site as an outline looks when writing a paper. On Monzilla, when you click on; i.e., 'cut' the bar highlights but the writing on the bar becomes so faint that you can not make it out. I never had this problem until I allowed the latest version to load. I also shut down the computer but that had no effect. If I look for something and use Yahoo it comes up with writing over writing on some lines. So why did this occur?

That's consistent with trouble with the Segoe UI fonts on your system.
If you're using Windows XP or Windows Vista, try Vortical's technique from the following post:

  • Multiple Errors, tried all fixes, nothing seems to work.

My phone was working perfectly and has been for the 2 months since I got it...
All the sudden I went to use it and there was a white screen with some kind of error that wouldn't do anything so I did the battery pop reset.
Now when it starts up it says Uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerException(looked it up, tried all fixes, none worked) and I also get the Application Registry.waitF or(**************) timeout and I had  Module 'net_rim_pdap_resources' not found error.
None of my music will play and when I start it up it now goes to a screen that says Blackberry Device Platform and lists everything instead of showing any icons or the homescreen.
I did a wipe hoping that would work and it didn't so now i've run out of options, can anyone help me?
It sounded like a good idea at the time....

You will need to use JL_Cmder to wipe the device and subsequently load the OS to the device. Follow the instructions here:

Bookmarks are not syncing to ONE of my Macs, but showing up on other Mac (work), iPhone 4 and iPad 1. Macs are on Mountain Lion. Tried all of Apple's suggestions - and the one Mac is still not updating/syncing Bookmarks or Reading List. What's going on? Do I have to wait to OS update? It seems lots of peolple were having issues before ML, but I as fine. Since ML, I am having all kinds of issues!

Yeah, I literally have tried everything except deleting my iCloud account (I'm close, but that would require so many changes that it is way too painful to consider at this point).
I am still waiting to hear back from Apple Support. Hopefully something can be done, or they can do a reset on their end.
Thanks for taking the time to respond though, much appreciated!

  • All I still get is a blank other than the side bars with stuff in them when I go to Itunes store. What's with that? is anyone else having this issue?

All I still get is blank other than the side bars with information like previous purchases and all. But I can't buy or preview anything. I've done the winsock reset and all but that hasn't helped. I checked my firewall and that hasn't done anything either and it's enabled so why the issue?

    I'd try the following document:

    Hi,
I would try a Safe Boot first.  (This will take longer than a normal Boot and you will need to Restart afterwards).
If it were an older OS I would also suggest going to System Preferences > Displays and making sure the display is set to Millions.  (My MacBook Pro does not have this option in Snow Leopard so I did presume Snow Leopard does not have it).
With some laptops there have been some issues with the cable up the back of the screen pulling loose with regular and frequent use of the lid, but this will not apply to you based on your specs.  (it does take time to appear and is also somewhat rare). However it seems enough contact with the camera can make it appear in System Profiler and power it on but not give a pic.
If a Safe Boot does not work I would also try a PRAM reset.
    Shut down the computer.
Restart it holding down Apple/CMD (or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.
This is actually "less" destructive in that it clears less memory items than Safe Boot but they are different enough to warrant trying.
Do you have an older version of iGlasses installed ?
The one for Leopard does not work for Snow Leopard.
Do you have  Web Browser open ?
This may point to  Google Video Chat Plug-in and Flash Conflict.  It would be rare to allow another app to access the camera even if not displayiong a Pic.
(Chrome Installs the Plug-in as does the standalone download).
Knowing  what "any application" exactly you are trying might help us pin it down.
Any additional downloaded  apps that can use the camera ?
Do you happen to have something balck in front of the camera ?
