Encoding PrPro-CS6

Premiere Pro CS6 -- I need to create a wmv file of my AVC Intra 100 footage. Since there is no wmv out of AME (Mac) or PR, I was going to export my sequence as is (AVC Intra) then use Episode to create wmv.  My PR sequence say that it is AVC Intra, but when I check the export using Sequence Settings check-box, the quality slider is greyed out and frozen at 50%, and the suffix on the file name is mpeg. After the encode, I end up w/ a file with a black screen and no audio (probably missing metadata).
I've also tried creating a custom sequence and have set the render to ProRes (HD).  This seems to give me an HD file the same screen size as my sequence (and it actually has audio/video), but the "get info" for the file doesn't say that the file is ProRes.  Sending client approval copies in WMV is essential for my business, so understanding the ins and out of PR's export process is IMPORTANT.  I've watched the tutorials on Lynda.com and the Cow, but haven't found anything that address much of this subject, nor any real post production best practices for PR CS6. I've been editing since CMX -- through Sony, Grass Valley, Avid Media Composer, and all of the FCP software (of course not much of FCP X), and am finding PR has great possibilities. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim

Läuft  in Pr. Bei Gelegenheit werde ich die beiden Versionen nach Unterschieden untersuchen.

  • PrPro CS6 interpretiert .m2v - Datei falsch

  • Problems installing Bridge and Media Encoder in CS6

I recently installed Creative Suite CS6 Design & Web Premium. I had previously installed the CS5 version and had not un-installed it. Everything except Acrobat appeared to install correctly. When I opened Photoshop CS6 (64-bit) I noticed that it used the CS5 version Bridge. I went into Bridge and unchecked the open at start box, closed Bridge and Photoshop and re-opened Photoshop CS6 (64-bit). When I tried to lunch Bridge from Photoshop the following message appeared in the Desktop> panel : Waiting for Bridge CS6..." Bridge CS6 did not appear despite waiting for several minutes. I then pressed the Start button and went into the Programs listing. Under the Adobe CS6 group I found all of the applications (other than Acrobat) but Bridge CS6 (64-bit), Bridge CS6, and Media Encoder each had generic icons rather than the expected relevant Adobe icons. I tried to load each of the three by clicking on the icon. In each instance the following message appeared:
The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you are running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program and then contact the software publisher.
My system is a Gateway FX6802. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium version 6.1.7601, Service Pack 1, Build 7601. The system has 9 GB of memory. I ran CS5 on the system and did not experience any difficulty with Bridge.

Thanks. Being the impatient sort (inspite of the problems that can create) I only did a partial uninstall with the cleaner tool, taking out the three items that were not working. Initially that seemed not to work. As I had other non-Adobe projects to take care of I put it out of mind. I even let an updatee package do its wonders. Today I used Photoshop for a quick project. I clicked on the Launch Bridge button and lo and behold the proper icon showed up and Bridge loaded. After finishing my project I closed down Photoshop and Bridge and then went through updating once more. The other problem I was having was with Acrobat. I finally traced the problem to a bad installation of Acrobat 9 at the CS4 level. (Shows you how much I use Acrobat.) I used the cleaner tool to clean up the remnants of CS4. After that Acrobat X installed quite nicely. At this point everything seems to be working as it should. Thanks for your help.

  • Issues with Size of FLV VBR 2-pass vs 1-pass Encoding in CS6

    Hey Everyone,
I've been doing some testing on various systems (using either Windows 7 or Windows 8 Consumer Preview) using Premiere Pro CS6 as well as Media Encoder 6 and I've noticed that encoding FLV files using VBR 2-pass encoding produces a file that is significantly larger than the same source file encoded using just a VBR 1-pass.
For example, one test that I ran used 10 seconds of DVCPRO HD 720P 29.97 footage as source material. I exported all clips exported as .flv, 960x540 square pixels, 29.97 fps, 1000 kbps and everything else left at default settings.
    Here were my results:
Size of Export via Premiere Pro CS5 VBR 1pass: 1.564 MB
Size of Export via Premiere Pro CS5 VBR 2pass: 1.618 MB
Size of Export via Premiere Pro CS6 VBR 1pass: 1.450 MB
Size of Export via Premiere Pro CS6 VBR 2pass: 3.622 MB
Eric Addison of 100 Acre Films also ran a similar test on his system and got these results:
Encoding 10 secs of a P2 AVC-I 1280x720, 29.97 clip using the same settings as above to FLV
    Premiere CS6 Export VBR 2 pass – 2.87 MB
    Premiere CS6  Export VBR 1 pass – 1.55 MB
    AME 6 Export VBR 2 Pass – 2.85 MB
I've tested this out with short clips, ~3 min sequences, raw clips, and clips with lots of effects, and I continue to get consistent results with the VBR 2-pass file being anywhere from 30% up to 300% larger than the same clip encoded using just 1-pass encoding. Again, this doesn't occur using Premiere Pro CS5 or 5.5 (or AME 5), so it appears to be just an issue within CS6.
Would anyone else be willing to run a similar test using their system and own source files and post your results in this thread to determine if this is a system-wide issue or just flukes?
    Thanks!

Just checking if there's any progress on this?
    We're having a similar problem, I just made a bug report. -
    Concise problem statement:
With CS6, rendering Flash Video files using AME creates files that are unuseable.  They have bad flickering, and look like files that have been encoded with half the bitrate.  This happens on all of our cs6 workstations, and has been happening since we moved to cs6.  Our workaround is to render the file to a 30mbps H264 file, then open cs5.5 media encoder and transcode it to flash, where it renders them perfectly, as it used to!  This is happening on projects where there have been no changes at all between cs5.5 and cs6 - we can render exactly the same timeline out of premiere pro in cs5.5 and it looks fine, then in cs6 it looks like crap.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
Render an on2 vp6 flash video out of premiere pro.
    Results:
Any parts of the video with gradients or hard colour contrast will look like crap, either blocky or blurry, like it's been encoded at a super low bitrate.
    Expected results:
This is happening on all sorts of projects - stuff with titles generated in premiere pro, stuff with PNG files in it, stuff with sony EX1 footage, with segments of uncompressed video rendered in after effects,...  basically everything.
Since filing the bug report, I've read this thread and worked out that like you guys it does only happen for us with 2 pass encoding.  So at least now we have a better workaround than transcoding, we can just export in 1 pass.  I don't like having to do that.  Yes, probably loads of people can't tell the difference between 1 and 2 pass and blah blah blah other codecs are better, we all know that!  We have to use on2 VP6, for lots of annoying reasons, one big one being that we have a lot of corporate clients who put our videos on their intranet, and don't let their staff update their media players, browsers, OS's etc. - so the only video they can reliably use for everyone is an on2 VP6 file.  Anyway, would be great to have a fix, we're only just making back all the time we lost from having to transcode all our Sony EX1 footage that premiere pro cs6 couldn't deal with (that tearing issue is now fixed, thank f*ck).  I doubt I'm going to be able to justify spending loads of money on upgrading to cs7 when it comes out after all the bugs we've had to deal with in this one.

  • Unable to create thumbnail in Adobe Media Encoder in CS6

I would like to create a thumbnail image in Adobe Media Encoder for all my videos. In the help file it says this is achieved by adding the same watch folder twice and choosing one of the output formats at JPEG. I have done this however JPEG is not listed as a possible output. I only see F4V, FLV, H.264, H.264 (Legacy), MP3
What should I do to get JPEG to show up here.

Thanks for the answer, I tried this with the same result. Also tried it on another computer and also the same result.
    What now?

  • Audio waveform refreshes display slowly on timeline (PrPro CS6)

    Is it just me.
I LOVE so many things about this new release. The one persistent, "always dealing with" issue I have is I have to wait for the audio waveform to refresh most times when I zoom in and out or even just scroll back and forth on the timeline. This is a huge slowdown/impediment issue for me.
    1. This never happened in previous versions
    2. This is not during indexing ... it's all the time
    3. It happens even when no effects are applied
    4. No, I do not have a slow workstation (CPU, mem, drives all optimal) ... remember, this never happend in previous versions
    5. I have preview files/cache and project/source video on different hard drives
    Anyone else experiencing this?

  • Upgrade PrE 10 to PrPro CS6 - How?

    Hi,
    I have Premiere elements 10.
How to upgarde to premiere pro c6s for windows 8.1
    Thanks
    John
[Title edited to clarify question - Hunt]

    Steve,
As you state, I have seen no upgrades for PrPro.
In the distant past, Adobe has offered some deals, but the last that I saw was an upgrade path from Photoshop, Illustrator or After Effects, to the CS 2 Production Studio suite. That was many years ago, and I have not seen such since.
IIRC, there WAS a "competitive upgrade" path offered to PrPro (or a suite), for owners of AVID, Final Cut Pro, with a smaller discount for PrE users. That was also many years ago.
When Adobe introduced the CC (Creative Cloud) licensing concept, they had a "special introductory price" for a PrPro CC license - similar for Ps, and some varius combos of Adobe's high-end products. That seems to have been a one-time price, and it has now run out - surprising many, who felt that subscription price would be retained.
There is (or was, until recently) a special subscription price for the Photography bundle, but do not think that it includes PrPro CC. Also, I would caution that any special pricing on that bundle, will most probably run out in time.
The best that one can do right now, is to buy PrPro CS 6 (download only), for the full-price, if one wishes to have a perpetual license, or to find Adobe's "best deal," for a CC subscription.
I doubt that we will see any sort of "competitive upgrade" specials, but only Adobe knows this.

  • PrPro CS6 ständiger Fehler beim Versuch von updates

    Hallo zusammen,

    Google translate
I do not know what I've tried everything and how often I have contacted the Adobe hotline to figure it out, why the attempts to download updates offered, getting the error message appears U44M1P7.
Is there really nowhere a step-by-steps statement that leads to a successful conclusion?
It's frustrating when even the Adobe employees (at least those with whom I had contact) here completely to "swim" and seem to have been able to make any helpful suggestions for solutions. These contacts usually end with the statement "I will send an email to times".
In all previous versions of Premiere Pro updates were not a problem. Since CS 5.5 and CS6 is nothing more here. Even on my recently completely refurbished computer, the reinstallation of CS6 has brought no solution, but still produces "U44M1P7".
I would like to mention that the updates work fine with Audition CS6.
    My reply
You may do the updates manually by downloading the files if the automtic process does not work
All Adobe updates start here and select product, read to see if you need to install updates in number order, or if the updates are cumulative for the individual product http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/

    thanks in advanced.

If clearing prefs doesn't work, you could also try uninstalling and reinstalling AME (this is done from the host application that installed it; Premiere, After Effects, etc.)
Also, do you get any error message before or after the crash?  Posting the error text or a screen shot may help us troubleshoot this.

  • FLVs created with ADOBE MEDIA ENCODER CS6 do not display thumbnails in ADOBE BRIDGE CS6

Could you please attempt to shed some light on why FLVs created with ADOBE MEDIA ENCODER CS6 do not display thumbnails in ADOBE BRIDGE CS6, yet apple finder is able to display thumbnails for these same FLVs without issue?
I'm running CS6 Production Premium with ALL updates installed on 10.6.8
I appreciate any input and help provided the input is provided by someone who either
    A) knows the answer because they actually work for adobe
    B) actually tried this themselves before attempting to provide a solution
If the conclusion is that it is a codec issue or a header issue with the FLVs You'd have to present a very strong case to back that claim up as it makes no sense whatsoever that CS6 is unable to generate thumbnails for media encoded using CS6, yet Apple finder can without issue. NOT to mention the FLVs in question are CREATED on the same machine with the same codecs installed that is trying to generate previews in Bridge.
Apologies if my frustration is showing, I've gotten and seen several... incompetent replies on this forum regarding this issue and it has never been actually addressed properly as far as I can tell by Adobe support.

We are all just incompetent users here.  As pointed out before this is just a user to user forum, Adobe rarely checks in.
I was hoping by now you would have gotten to the bottom of this problem and were offering a solution.

  • How to save CS6 as CS5.5

    hello all,
Can you advise how to save a CS6 document to be editable in CS5.5 (particularly Photoshop)? I have tried Save As and Export but have not discovered any options to do so.
    thanks,
    Berabby

You can't officially save PrPro CS6 project as PrPro CS5.5.
As said in the comment #2, you can open up PrPro CS6 .prproj file in a script editor (e.g. Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit) or even a text editor (preferably, which respects formatting, but doesn't add its own formatting) and then in the fourth line replace Version="25" with Version="24":
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <PremiereData Version="3">
        <Project ObjectRef="1"/>
        <Project ObjectID="1" ClassID="62ad66dd-0dcd-42da-a660-6d8fbde94876" Version="24">
Keep in mind that everything is at your own peril, and new PrPro CS6 features can't be converted (properly interpreted) to PrPro CS5.5. Some changes in GUI can even cause a crash, as described in the comment #6. To overcome crash issues you can rely on a good old trick of importing a project into a project (i.e. create a brand new PrPro CS5.5 project and import into it the one, within which you replaced Version="25" with Version="24").

  • Media Encoder error about activation when exporting in activated version of Premiere CS4

I get the following error when I try to export media in Premiere CS4 (Note: I have a legal and activated copy of CS4 Master Collection). In Premiere, it appears to go through (the loading progress bar fills and then disappears) but when I check the folder, it's empty. And then I notice that there's another icon in my taskbar and oh hey, it says "AMT Subsystem Error: Thank you for using Adobe Media Encoder CS5. The Adobe product that installed Media Encoder has not activated. Please launch and activate that Adobe product before continuing to use Media Encoder."
I'm using Windows 7 x64 (8gb of RAM). I tried installing the patch as suggested in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/719451 but it only claimed to not have the corresponding program installed. I tried checking to see if there were any updates - there weren't.
A quick check on my computer reveals that both Media Encoder CS4 and CS5 are installed. I looked to see if there was a way to uninstall the CS5 version but didn't see it. The only way I think I could have gotten it was though some sort of Adobe update.
Any ideas of how to fix this?

Hi: I have the same problem, but it happened very suddenly and after very specific updates. I successfully encoded a file using the CS6 encoder. Then, I allowed updates to Adobe Media Player and Adobe Air. I tried to encode with CS6 again and it had stopped working - all in the space of 5 minutes. A reboot did not help. I also have CS4 and CS 5.5 installed and have had all along (which means that you can have them and use the CS6 encoder). Since I can no longer use the CS6 encoder, but am able to launch an older one, I am using that for the moment. I hope that this reply will be of some help in finding a solution.
