Encoding stuck at 42%

I have DVDSP 3 and about 45 mins worth of footage. I am trying to build my TS folders to burn with toast, but exporting is getting stuck at 42%. I have read other topics that have addressed this same problem. One suggestion was to not have it on an external drive so I moved it to my desktop. Problem persisted. Then I read to convert it with Quicktime to an mpeg2 and then reimport into DVDSP. I tried doing this but I can't seem to find a way to convert it to an mpeg2. I have an option for DV or for mpeg 4... Any other suggestions woudl be wonderful! Oh! And it was edited with FC express, exported to a quicktime mov put into DVDSP. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

If you have DVD SP 3 you have both Compressor installed and also export as MPEG-2 from QT installed. (Unless somehow it was overwritten?)
Anyway the 42% is solved by encoding outside DVD SP, like you tried. As David said launch Compresssor and bring the Movie into that to encode (remember to use A.Pack/Dolby audio and not aifs in the movie.)
Take a look at the last post here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2212949&#2212949 for a quick overview of encoding and what is happening.
Also here http://dvdstepbystep.com/fasttrackover.php has a short movie and includes a section showing Compressor, should get you going (look at note 5 also)

  • Encoding Stuck

I have a dual 1.8 1.25 ram g5. i have dvd sp4. my problem and it's getting really annoying is that when i try to burn a dvd encoding gets stuck at any giving percentage one time is was at 28% for ten hours.this was a simple-first play no menu 40 minute project three chapters. just tonight a 3:49 music video no chapters stuck at 10% for a half hour. i have imported quick time movies and from compressor. i can make a dvd no problem in idvd. but i didn't spend the money on production suite to use idvd. i have trashed the prefs and read from the peachtree books.
    please help

One of the common solutions that people find which helps is to encode outside of DVD SP and bring the m2vs into DVD SP.. This method seemed to cure many of the encode stuck issues.
Of course there may be something else going on, but that is one of the first things to try

  • Default Character Encoding stuck on UTF-8 - Firefox 7

I cannot change the Character Encoding - it is stuck on Unicode UTF-8 and I can not change it! When a web page opens I get these little boxes with "FF FD" instead of Quote marks. When I change the character encoding on that page using "View->Character Encoding" and click on the Western (ISO-8859-1), the page displays correctly. Every page opens using Unicode UTF-8 as the default.
View->Character Encoding -- shows Unicode UTF-8 as the default.
    View->Character Encoding->Auto-detect -- shows OFF
Tool->Options->Content->Advance->Fonts->Default Character Encoding -- shows Western (ISO-8859-1) as well as the "Allow Pages to choose their own fonts..." IS CHECKED in the check box
THE PAGES ARE NOT UTF-8!!!! The "View Page Source" IS NOT Unicode UTF-8! -- It shows <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">.
The "View Page Info" shows MetaTag - Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1
Why can I not change the Default Character Encoding?
I would also like to point out that the Unicode UTF-8 seems to be broken because it is indicating that the QUOTE CHARACTER is an UNPRINTABLE character "FF FD"
    ----- EDIT -----
The UTF-8 is not broken. The problem as pointed out in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Replacement_character#Replacement_character is that my Firefox being STUCK processing UTF-8 encoding cannot read the clearly marked iso-8859-1 data. So the UTF-8 is reinterpreting smart quotes -&ldquo; and &rdquo;- (“ and ”) as replacement (unprintable) characters.
So the real problem is why my Firefox is stuck on Unicode UTF-8

The real problem is that the font that is used doesn't have those characters.
Do you see the special quotes -“ and ” on this forum page?
Does it help if you disable the website fonts and set another font as the default font?

  • Encoding stuck at 14%

I'm trying to build/burn a DVD with three menus, and 10 video tracks off these various menus. I'm using DVD studio pro v.3 - and each time I try and burn the DVD, it gets stuck at 14% while encoding assets. It doesn't cancel or fail, it just sits there, until, hours later, i eventually cancel it myself.
    Any tips welcome!

Long term you need to follow Shawn's advice, but in the meantime keep Activity Monitor open while building your project. When you see that DVDSP has frozen: cancel the build. Then look at the VOB files using Finder or MPEG StreamClip or QT. Note where the build stopped and then examine your timeline in that area- chances are you've got a misplaced marker or audio longer than video or similar issue. When looking at the VOBs remember that the "_0" ones are just markers so you need to bve examing the ones that end with "_01" (or more)

  • Encoding Stuck At 0%

    Hi all,
Thought I'd add my configuration to this issue that seems to be cropping up on a few systems.
    Software:
    CS6 Production Premium - Version 6.0.3 (001 MC: 264587)
Recently added HDVSplit and FFDShow in order to capture HDV
    Hardware:
    Win 7 64-Bit
    8 GB Ram
    Intel i5 processor 3.2GHz
    2 x 1TB HDDs (A - program, audio, previews (98% full); B - video scratch (50% full))
Graphics - Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500
Working on a 5 hour SD project. Trying to Export to MPEG DVD. The Encoding window sticks at 0% and my system slowly churns to no effect.
There are a couple of test dynamic link After Effects comps as titles, with or without them on the timeline no change.
I've done similar projects (minus the After Effects comps) on a dinosaur laptop without trouble. I know the computer has the horsepower.
    Things I've tried:
Updating CS6 allowing to regenerate peaks > no effect
Tested other presets H.264, Quicktime, AVI > all stuck at 0%
    Rendered everything > no effect
Changing my preview scratch to the same as the source scratch > pending a test
If I select one or two minutes of a sequence it will encode and finish, but larger chunks don't get past 0%. Doesn't seem to be related to any particular asset, just the sheer size. When it hangs, it will eventually create the files but they are only a few KBs.
    Hoping for some insight.
    George

You have a serious disk space problem on your 'A' drive. 98% full means it is a) dead slow and b) can cause errors because of insufficient disk space for temporary files. In combination with very limited memory, making the system use the pagefile extensively, this is a clear recipe for problems. I suggest you get some more disks and clean up your boot disk.

  • Does iDVD work with Maverick? This is the first time I tried to burn a DVD using iDVD after upgrading to Maverick. It seems to get stuck at encoding menu stage and not doing anything.

I tried to burn a DVD using iDVD after upgrading to Maverick, first time I tried after upgrading to Maverick a few weeks ago. It seems to get stuck at encoding menu stage and not doing anything. Does anyone else have the same problem?

I did not have a DVD handy to burn but I have just created a small 2 minute video and created a Disk Image and also a VIDEO_TS folder, the encoding worked correctly, so it works with some items.
You may get a better responce in the iDVD forum.

  • Media Encoder gets stuck!!

I'm getting frustrated.  I have a 1hr long project that i'm trying to export and been fighting with it for a week.
Media encoder starts its work, it goes on for hours and eventually, at some random point it just stops encoding.  It doesn't freeze, it doesn't show any error, it doesn't physically "stop" but the output preview just freezes on a random frame (different each time) and the 'remaning' export time instead of getting shorter just gradually gets longer and keeps increasing to show that it's gonna take hundreds of hours to finish...  I didn't trust the preview/remaining time so i kept it on and encoding for 48 hours - at that time it showed that it was gonna take 600 something hours to finish and was still increasing.  ridiculous.
I'm on an HP elitebook workstation.  Nvidia Quadro 2000, 8GB ram.  Win7, Using Premiere CS6.  My sequence is pretty heavy - 1hr long, 9 video tracks, 10 or so audio tracks.  Most clips have MB Looks color correction on them, some clips have stabilization, few clips use MB MisFire effect.  95% of my footage are 1080p or 720p MOV files from the Canon 7D and from GoPro.  Few other clips are different formats (flv/mp4) and i have some stills + tiff timelapses and imported photoshop graphics.  Also, just a few AfterEffects clips imported into my timeline.  It's pretty heavy but i exported my rough cuts of this project many times before - most recently with the 720p youtube HD preset - always took a while, but it always DID export.
Now I'm trying to export with the 1080p YoutubeHD preset (except i checked 'render in max quality') and I also tried exporting as 1080p H.264 - and it just will not export...  It's been a week now, i tried many times, i deleted the cache, i started a new project and imported the old one into it, nothing makes any difference and i'm out of ideas...
*** Few potential clues i need to mention:
    - For some time now I've been getting the [..\..\src\TickTime.cpp-207] error whenever opening the premiere project.  There are several discussions on this error on the forums - so far no solution and no clear source of the problem (aparrently sth to do with stabilization).  But after clicking 'ok' on the pop up error message continuously for a minute or so, the error goes away and the project doesn't seem affected in any way.
    - a couple of my previous exports of this project had 1-2 clips that looked 'scrambled' in the finished exported file.  It was mostly the stills.  This only happened 2 times though, many other exports were just fine.  not sure why...
    i'd much appreciate any advice...

Sounds exactly like what is happening to me.  This is frustrating because it was a 30 hour encoding process and the place where it is stuck is right at the very end of the sequence on the 2nd pass, although there is still about 12% of the progress bar remaining.  I guess that this is where it takes all its work and puts the separate files into the single video file. I really don't want to go through this again. The final video file is showing up though and is shown having the size that I am expecting it to be.
Any workarounds to somehow get this unstuck?  I am hesitant to just try and open the file. I am going to try a couple of things and if I am successful at getting this to finish without restarting then I will be sure to post it here.
Also, I don't know if this has anything to do with this problem, but I looked at my system Activity Monitor, and there is a CPU process highlighted in red, it states:
         Adobe QT32 Server (not responding)
    Thirty minutes later...
I was incorrect above as to the actual problem.  I paused the queue encoding that was stuck, then opened up the project again in Premiere Pro only to discover that there was an offline still image which I stupidly had renamed during the day. So I renamed the file back to its original name, reconnected the picture, saved the PP project. Then I started the encoding back up and still no luck.
So I paused the encoding again, went back into the PP project and rendered just the area under question, saved it, and exported it into the queue. Then just to be safe I went to the paused item in AME, and duplicated it adding another version into the queue.
Then I unpaused the encoding and ... SUCCESS!!  Not sure which of the final steps did the trick, but I am guessing that it was the rendering of the part of the sequence that it was stuck on.  Hope this helps someone.

  • Adobe Media Encoder project status stuck on ready - won't encode

I've tried about a million things. Re-installation of Encoder, Premiere and Quicktime, clearing and relocating media cache, changing file export type... Nothing. When I click the green start button, nothing happens. Nothing starts to encode. My files are just stuck on ready. Help plz.
Oh... and I've got a deadline on Feb 1st to top it all off! Please help!

Could you check a folder or file called "Presets" under a user Documents > Adobe > Adobe Media Encoder > 8.0?  If this is somehow corrupted, please try deleting this and relaunch AME.

  • Help.....IDvd Burning is Stuck at encoding audio

Buring idvd and its stuck at encoding audio. - what should I do???? Afte spending so much time on this.
Very dissapointing its taking very long much longer that idvd4. Purchase upgrade for improvement not for headaches.

I'm not near my Mac right now, but I think its in the project info window. I believe it comes up when you 1st ship your movie to iDVD. There is a a drop down style menu with 2 choices. I do not know if you can change this setting once you are past it. You may have to re-enter iDVD through iMovie and start over.

  • Encoding assets gets stuck at 14% during DVD burn

I've been using DVD Studio Pro for a couple of years to create demo reels on DVD. Recently I was updating our reel and imported some new video and audio files. When I tried to burn a DVD it seemed to get stuck at 14% while encoding assets and wasn't able to complete the burn. I tried burning an older version from an older DVD Studio Pro file and it seemd to work fine. I'm just wondering what's different about this new version that's making it unable to burn a DVD. It must have something to do with the new files I imported. Is there anything I can do to fix this.
I've been using DVD Studio Pro V 2.05

Compressor is okay, better than it was before. You can also use other encoders such as bitVice, www.innobits.se and another at digigami.com Basically Compressor will do what DVD SP will do but with more control
You will not have to rebuild the reel, once you encode the assets (AC3 and m2v) just replace the items in the track, which is done in the following (also has some Compressor info)

A movie showing Compressor is also here

  • IDVD4 Stuck on Stage 3 Encoding

I have a iMac G5 with 1GB of memory and i have 40 GB of free space on my hard drive and i am running iDVD4, and i am trying to burn a 37 minute movie which i created in iMovie. iDVD has been stuck on stage 3 asset encoding for six hours now. what can i do to make this go quicker. i am on a deadline right now, my dvd has to be done by 6 o'clock tonight, and its 3 right now. any advice, tips, hints, anything? please, somebody help me. Thank you.

It's past your deadline now, but it is good to have alternative plans. If this was to be shown at an event, for example, you can export your iMovie back to the camcorder and use the camcorder for the event (do the DVD later). The movie exports back in real time (no encoding time), so that option would've taken about 40 minutes. Encoding and burning a DVD can take a very long time, especially with slower processors.

  • Always stuck at same % during encoding

We have been having an issue authoring DVDs in our computer lab, many times DVD Studio Pro gets stuck at the same % during the encoding process. Its always the same % that it gets stuck, even on different machines or different projects. The projects are almost always a quicktime movie set up to autoplay with no menu and just continuously loop. Any ideas as to what may cause this?

I suspect that you are bringing in .mov files into DVD SP and having it do the MPEG-2 encoding. I've encountered this very bug in the past. The solution: encode your video to MPEG-2 in Compressor (and your audio to AC3 while you are at it.) Bring the .m2v and .ac3 files into DVD SP and then author.

  • My Media Encoder CC grace period ran out - now stuck

    Hey there forum-goers,
So my grace period for using Adobe Media Encoder CC expired some time recently while I was out of action due to illness. Upon trying to open the program it informs me I need a CC subscription - however I only need use of the program for about two to four days (holiday weekend, after all so may not have time). The caveat is a single month subscription is $75!!! Is there no other way to use this single program without forking over this insane amount? I have no need for anything else that comes in this "awesome package".
While speaking on the phone with an sales agent I was told I need the full plan to be able to access the Media Encoder CC, and they offered no alternatives or suggestions - sales being sales.
I did try my Media Encoder CS6 for the task but it doesn't have the quicktime formats I need, which is why I went and used M.E.CC in the first place.
I also asked for a brief extension to the trial but was told a big fat NO, which is unsurprising. Adobe gotta eat, after all.
So here I am asking for help from the community, because community is what I believe in and I'm sure someone has been in this or a similar boat before.

Are you sure that is media encoder CC though - because I tried the Media Encoder CS6 and it didn't have quicktime as an option, and downloading plugins and whatnot didn't seem to work. However I already have profiles and everything set up with Media Encoder CC so that is the one I need. If that is confirmed then surely 20 is far more manageable than 75.

  • Encoding media gets stuck at 17% when burning DVD disc

    Hi,
I am currently trying to burn a dvd on adobe premiere elements 11. The movie is 9.3GB and I am burning onto a 4.7GB disc (Tried a 8.5GB dual layer the other day and same problem occurs).
I clicked burn yesterday at 2pm and the first 4 stages of encoding were completed within about 90 minutes, then it moved onto encoding media. At 4pm, the blue bar stopped at 17% and has remained there since yesterday. Is this normal?
Should I just leave this to run over the next few days?
I successfully burnt 3 copies of a 1.8GB short film last week so know it works, just taking forever...
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    R Mc 99
Sorry, I think that I must have lost track of your prior post with the information that was on its way. Glad you posted your follow up message.
If you do not have an external hard drive to which to point the Scratch Disks, then please use the following scheme for now...
    Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks
    a. Point them all to the same place. Remember, the project's Save In location is set in the new project dialog, not in Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks like the other project assets listed there. In the Scratch Disc location, I prefer to browse to and set for a special path rather than leave "Same As Project".
Here I left "Same As Project" for all, but made sure of where the project was being saved by checking the new project dialog Save In field. The arrow in the screenshot points to where you will see how much free hard drive space is
at the location to which the Scratch Disk is directed. How much do you have listed for all? Here I have all directed to an external hard drive that has the drive letter E and has 922.4 GB free hard drive space.
Your settings of the project and Scratch Disks should hold from project to project, but no guarantees, so best to check to see what have within a project and from project to project, especially when you are using Save As Project instead of a specific path.
Suggestion, if Local Disc C, browse to
    Libraries
    Documents
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    11.0
the set should look something like C:\User...\Adobe\Premiere Elements\11.0
you should not be seeing "Auto-Save"....Adobe Premiere Elements AutoSave Folder is in the 11.0 Folder. In this scenario you want the all the Scratch Disk pointed to the 11.0 Folder not the AutoSave folder within this 11.0 folder. Think about that one including what you are setting in the Premiere Elements 11 preferences and the location being designated in Documents. Also, check out what is going on in the Encoding Folder in that line up of Folders in the 11.0 Folder in the Documents area.
Reminder...about Media Cache Folder....the Media Cache Folder in Documents (Adobe Folder/Premiere Elements/11.0) has the conformed audio files.
For Edit Menu/Preferences/Media, just hit the Clean button there to clear out the conformed video files. Note that the path to what you are deleting is shown in Edit Menu/Preferences/Media
    C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common
In the Common Folder there is this other Media Cache folder with the conformed video files (.mcdb).
For video properties, you can always get a readout from a program like MediaInfo
    http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo
but for now you can right click the file in Project Assets and let us know the frame size and other properties information for what is in this project.
Lots of details but the focus here is
In view of the low memory messages...
    a. assure that computer resources are not being eaten up by pile ups of Scratch Files
    b. assure that your project's format's computer resource demands are not exceeding your computer
    resources.
Please review. If necessary, I will fine tune what I have written.
    Thanks.

  • Installation stuck at Create database schema Phase 13 of 27

    Hi
I am installing the Netweaver 7.01 SP3 and have already removed it completely after getting stuck at the same installation step. Do not know what is going wrong. A small extract of the log is shown below. Any advice on how to proceed will be helpful. I know when einstalling it has to be removed completely which I did using uninstallation and then clean up tool. But again it is stooping at the same step. I had let it run more almost two days but of no use. My system configuration is good enough with 2GB RAM etc.

    Thanks in advance
    Vikas

Guess you are talking about sapinst.log file. Below are the last few lines after which it did not proceed
Do see the last step create DB schema....... The previos log was from sapinst_dev.log
Oliver I have a doubt could it be becuase of the host name.
The host name of my machine is "skumar278-1" with DNS domain name for SAP system "asiapac.globalcsc.net"
Could this be the reason for the problem i am facing i.e installation getting stuck at phase 13 Create DB schema.... Other than this I cannot see anything else which can go wrong.. Do have the DHCP server available..
The page file as per the ram settings i.e for 2 GB should be 3072 so I have set it to the same. Though
    the prerequisite page shows
"For the selected services at least 7138 MB swap space are recommended. Current value: 2851 MB. (Updated 2005-06-24)"
    Can this be the reason???
Also I just looked at the services file.. there are about about 4-5 different files with the name services .3 services.4 ...  services.5 etc als there is no entry for port 3900 3600 & 8000.. .. do not know what to do... Please suggest..
