Encore 2.0 freezes on QT import

Hi,
I've created a QT reference file in Avid 5.6 and imported it as an asset. It's a 610KB file. I can see the file in the project menu, but when I select it, the application locks up and I have no further control so have to cntrl-alt-del to get out of it.
Any thoughts on why this is happening? I'm running a dual core 3.2GHz + 2GB Ram so the computer should definitely be up to handling it.
Cheers!
Simon

Hi all,
Just to confirm, I did as you suggested and confirmed with MediaInfo that the file is 28Mbps, 720*576(4/3), at 24.132fps, Apple DV PAL.
Then, I had an idea. I went back to Avid and tried a different setting. QT Reference with 'Flatten Video Tracks' and 'fill spaces with black' unchecked. I don't know why I thought this would work, but at least Encore didn't refuse to import it after I did it.
So, to answer your question, it's the other way around, the freezing evolved from the refusal to import. Audio format is AIFF-C. (not sure what muxed/demuxed means..)
Cheers guys!
Simon

  • Lightroom 5.7.1 64bit constantly freezes up when importing, requiring a reboot.

    Hey folks
Running Windows 8.1 As of a week ago, Lightroom 5.7.1 64bit constantly freezes up when importing, and it take a reboot for it to successfully import again. Nothing about my operating system or environment has changed (no new devices plugged in).
    This is a total pain.
    I've uninstalled/reinstalled Lightroom, but that hasn't helped.
    Can anyone assist?  Thanks.

    Hi Panda,
I basically left it - and left it - and left it. Eventually it recovered, and started importing photos. So my experience was that it will work eventually - it just takes ages, and looks like it's hanging at first.
I think I left it for three days in total. After the spinning beach ball appearing for many hours, it did start slowly importing.
    Good luck!

  • Aperture/Mac Pro freeze in mid import

The computer freezes in the middle of Aperture imports. The first time it happened, I restarted, went back to Aperture and the software freezes up--from here, I can force quit. I've tried everything that I can think of to address this issue: I tried resetting preferences, with no result. I rebuilt my library, and that gave me access to Aperture again, but every time I try to import, the whole computer freezes halfway through. I uninstalled, reinstalled, it fixed the problem, but again, the computer freezes on import. I restored my library from the vault, again, problem fixed, then freezes up on import. I'm a pro, and I use aperture to upload client files to my ftp. I can't be without this program and my library. Any other suggestions? I'm desperate!!! (It's not a card reader or raw file issue, the same pics upload into iPhoto just fine--no problems. I upgraded to the new Mac Pro less than a month and have had no other problems. All other software etc. works perfectly.)

Please let me know if you find anything out about this problem. I'm about to download Lightroom and give up on Aperture for good. I don't want to do this because I have an aperture plugin that connects me with my pro lab and event hosting service. Now I'll have to manually size my images and get some ftp program like fetch. All of this is going to equal a lot more work for me. So if you resolve this issue, I would love to find out how. (I didn't have any problems before my last update, and the version on my MacBook Pro (not updated from 2.0) still seems to work. It's just so slow! you think it's an update issue?)

  • Encore CS4 freezing up on import and build

Using Encore CS4 and having problems in two different projects. In one, Encore freezes up when I attempt to import a large asset (it's a 1.4GB MP4 file). There is nothing else in the project - I'm trying to get started with it.
In a different project, everything goes well until I attempt to build the project, at which time Encore is once again freezing. In this project, I have two AVI files placed one after another and a single, very simple image as a menu - nothing fancy.
I'm running Vista with 2GB of RAM.
    Thanks in advance.

    robhuddles,
I'll assume that you are Exporting from PP CS4, as Encore CS4 is only bundled with it.
    Try a "test":
Export as DV-AVI (Video only), and PCM/WAV 16/48 (Audio only). Import the DV-AVI as a Timeline and the WAV as an Asset. Place the WAV on the Timeline with the DV-AVI. Link your Menu to it. I'd alter the "test" Menu, so there is only one Button and it Links to the Timeline. Set End Action of Timeline to Return to Menu. Check for errors, then Burn this "test" to a DVD RW. Does this work?
Note: I would start a new clean Project. You can Import>As Menu, your existing Menu, but DO modify it for this "test," so there is ONLY one Button. You do not want un-linked Buttons in the "test."

  • Pls. help! iPhoto freezes (after duplicate/import/ext. edit)

    Hi everyone,
I'm so frustrated. Every time I either duplicate a photo, edit in external editor, or actually after every single import from the digital camera (I use a card reader, but the camera is EOS 20D for completeness) iPhoto stops responding, freezes, I get the spinning ball. I mean, I went to Macs because I was fed up wasting so much time just getting things to work, and now this? :''-(
I've tried repairing permissions, cron scripts, deleting the iPhoto prefs file and it still happens. BTW, for the technical ones around you, if I restart iPhoto after I have to force quit, the duplicated photo is there. Just like the import goes through. Just at the end it hangs itself. Also to my bewilderment, duplicating an already duplicated photo (by clicking on the duplicate) the iPhoto will not freeze exceptionally. Oh, and I also tried manual permissions (RW for me AND the group), plus I AM the admin and the only user account on this mac ever since it was new.
Please help. I already upgraded from 5.0.3 to 5.0.4 and no change (luckily it didn't get worse, heh). My library is 5 Gigs of mostly 8megapixel RAWs, TIFFs, and JPEGs.
    Thank you!

    Hi amanda,
for now, use Image Capture to import your images.
Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
    Under the General button choose
Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.
iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
If you find you can't change any of Image Captures preferences or can't access any drop down menus or they are greyed out, check to make sure Image Capture is loose in the Applications folder and not within a sub folder.
You can also try to delete the iPhoto preference file called com.Apple.iPhoto.plist. Here is a screenshot of where it is.
    Preference file
Then you can download and use Onyx to clean out all caches.
    OnyX
-I want you to check the permissions on your iPhoto Library folder and make sure they are Read/write for you. In the same window go all the way to the bottom and check the box.
Get info on the iPhoto Library folder
    iPhoto Library Info
For good measure, you can open Disk Utility which is found in your Utilities folder and repair permissions.

  • Freeze during file import

    Hi,
Almost everytime I import a batch of movie files from a folder on my hard drive FCP X freezes about 3/4 of the way through the analysis and correction process. The files are all there when I force quit and restart but I wonder if all the import correction features are being completed.
    Thanks

what format are the movie files and how big are they?

  • Lightroom 2.2 freezes up when importing phtotos from my g10

I got a g10 a few weeks ago and have been anxiously awaiting the 2.2 upgrade.
installed the upgrade to LR 2.2 last night, seems to go fine, When i put my card from g10 in my computer and push import, LR room freezes up to the point of being unreponsive?
    what would cause this?
what can i do to fix it? I have ps cs3, would that be the problem?
    THanks,

It's a .dat file. "Roaming" is the AppData subfolder on Vista that has among other files my Lightroom Prefs, Bibble cache and a CameraRaw/CameraProfiles folder with the .dat file.
This may be a WAG, but I wonder if deleting the contents of both of these files may be necessary for a re-install to fix the problem.

  • After Effects CS6 freezing when I import

    Hey.
I have a problem with my After Effects. Everytime I import something, a few seconds after my mouse turns into "the spinning ball of death", and I can't do anything but forcequit out of After Effects. Then the next time I open AE, I hang on "Initializing Mediacore", but I know how to fix that. I have 10.8.2 Mountain Lion, and my Application Manager says that all of my Adobe programs are up to date (I'm running CS6). I run the trial version, and I'm thinking of buying it in a couple of days, just so you know I have the trial.
I am open to any kind of help, I have not uninstalled/reinstalled, and I have not tested with other footage than from my SONY HD Camera, and I've also tried with a Premiere Pro Sequence.
    Thanks.

I found the problem. For some reason my camera records in 24.5 fps (very weird?), so after I changed that it worked. Except one thing, .mov files doesn't work. And let me answer those questions for you:
I use After Effects CS6 11.0.2.11, I'm using Mac OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2, I'm trying to import .mov files, but it wouldn't work (that's my problem), so I changed to .mp4, but I would rather use .mov. Whenever I play the footage, whenever it shows up on the preview screen, my AE freezes. I do not use any thirdparty effects or codecs. My Mac-specs are:
3,4 GHz Intel Core i7 processor, 16 GB memory and an AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB Graphicscard.
Rest is just no, except the last one. I make a new comp and import files. Now, if I preview the imported file, my AE freezes, but only if it's a .mov file. And if I drag it into my timeline, it can stay there, but when I try to RAM preview or play it, it freezes.
Hope this can help you find a solution.

  • Tests fine in Encore, Plays then Freezes on Disc

I have a project that has me very disheartened.  I have been trying to output a disc from Premiere, to Encore and ending up on BluRay.  The original project was shot on a Canon 5d, edited in premiere using the canon dslr preset.  23.976 fps 1920x1080.
I have encoded through AME and directly from Premiere.
I have tried a variety of compressions scenario, including knocking the data rate below Adobe's  low setting for Blu Ray.
The disc always plays fine in the preview in Encore.  Once the disc is outputted it plays for the first minute or so and then freezes in the same area each time.
I have also tried 2 kinds of discs and 2 kinds of Blu Ray Drives.
I'm starting to wonder if it's Encore.
While editing I have exported many versions to vimeo without a problem.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
I am already late with this project by several days and very frustrated with Adobe.
I'm trying to figure out what my next step is, Toast?  Final Cut Compressor?  DVD Studio Pro?
    Thanks for your help!
    Gerry

This says 10.8.3 but that MAY only be that nobody with 10.7.4 has reported (lucky you... you may be the first)
    Mac 10.8.3 Bug w/Encore and BluRay http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1198709
    -create folder not ISO http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1216127
    >If Encore authors the ISO and then I burn it to BD using toast couldn't Encore still be the problem
Well... try it and report back... if using Encore to author and something else to burn works, you know the problem is Encore's burning module, not the authoring process
It is "fairly" common over on the Windows side to have Encore write to ISO or folder and then use Imgburn to write the disc
Also, for Encore CS6... have you checked to see if there are any updates?

  • Encore DVD 2.0 Quicktime Reference Import

I seem to have an issue when trying to import an Avid Quicktime reference movie. In Version 1.5 a QT reference imported without issue, but importing in 2.0 gives the error message "Quicktime and/or the appropriate codec do not appear to be installed." A regular (non-reference) QT imports fine into 2.0. Anyone have any ideas on this?

I did some experimenting and it looks like it doesn't like the .qt extension that the Avid system gives the file. If I change the extension to .mov it imports and encodes just fine. Is there some way to avoid having to rename the extension each time? Any kind of setting in Encore perhaps?

  • ITunes freezes up during Import CD

I recently updated iTunes on my computer to version 7. Now, when I have iTunes running and I insert a CD, it gets about 3-5 seconds into the import and freezes. I have to abort iTunes and in some cases reboot the computer. This only happens on a few CD's. I have about 100 or so that DID work. I imported those few CD's on a different machine with the same version of iTunes and no problems.
If I play the CD with a different media player, and then start iTunes, it will import without problems, but as soon as I load another disc, it freezes up. Anyone ever encountered this problem?
    HP Media Center   Windows XP

I copied the library to cd, which took 19 cd's for 20gb.
I also moved a copy in hard drive. Look at article 301748 here. or here are the directions. It worked for me.
    Richard
iTunes: Moving your iTunes Music folder
If your hard drive is nearly full after loading all your music into iTunes, or if you just want to move all those music files to another hard drive on your system, here's a way to make the move while retaining all your playlists, ratings, and play history.
First make sure that the "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" option is checked in iTunes Preferences:
Mac users: From the iTunes menu, choose Preferences.
Windows users: On the Edit menu, click Preferences.
In the resulting dialog, click the Advanced button and then click the General tab.
Select the "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" checkbox.
    Click OK.
Once you've done that, follow the next set of steps to change your iTunes Music library location to the new drive and then consolidate your library to the new location. This not only copies your audio files over, it also retains your ratings and playlists. Note: If you move your music library to an external hard drive, you will need to have that drive connected to access your files. No matter what, it's always a good idea to have a backup of the media you have in iTunes.
    Open iTunes.
From the iTunes menu, choose Preferences (In Windows, from the Edit menu, choose Preferences).
Click the Advanced button in the Preferences window and then click the General tab.
Click the Change button in the Advanced pane.
In the Change Music Folder Location window that appears, navigate to the location where you would like your new Music folder to be created. Note: By default, your iTunes Music folder is a folder named "iTunes Music" in ~/Music/iTunes/ where the tilde "~" represents your home directory. In Windows, the default location is:
    \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
Click the New Folder button in the Change Music Folder Location window.
In the New Folder window that appears, enter the name of the new iTunes Music folder.
    Click Create.
Click Choose in the Change Music Folder Location window.
Click OK in the Advanced window.
From the Advanced menu, choose Consolidate Library. A message appears that says: "Consolidating your library will copy all of your music into the iTunes Music folder. This cannot be undone."
Click Consolidate. Important: This action copies all of your music files to the new location. There must be enough hard disk space available to copy all of your music files.
After the folder has been copied, locate your original iTunes Music folder, and drag it to the Trash or Recycle Bin. Note: Don't remove the iTunes library files that may be in the same location as the iTunes Music folder.
Empty the Trash or Recycle Bin.

    Hello everyone,
I'm running HANA Studio version  1.0.68, and can't get it to import any file at all. The application just freezes after clicking the Next button in the File Import Wizard after filling up the form. I've tried even simple CSV files with a few rows without success, and importing into an existing table or a new one with identical results. After closing studio I see a java error (see the screenshot below.
    Any help is appreciated
    Regards
    Ricardo Sada

    Hi Ricardo,
    You can try these things
    1) Try setting the value of the file as for the Xms as 512m in your hdbstudio.ini file, which will be present in your Studio installation location.
    2) Check for the location of JAVA.EXE ( Kill any JAVAW.EXE in your task manager and restart the studio)
    C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe
    --launcher.XXMaxPermSize
    512m
    --launcher.defaultAction
    openFile

    -vmargs
    -Xmx1024m
    -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8
    -Xms256m
    -XX:MaxPermSize=512m
    3) Chekc of the Jre path in the system environment variabled and if they are pointing to 32 bit or 64 bit Java installation

  • Lightroom freezes during file import

    Hi,
When I try to import photos from a drive or my camera, Lightroom freezes, often while attempting to import the first photo.  Any ideas of what the problem might be?
I'm using a Mac desktop and Lightroom 1.4.1.
    Thanks!

    Thanks a lot! That´s it!
It took me a while to understand what you had meant and to find out, where and how to change the default setting. I did not change the preset intentionally before and I´m quite sure that LR 5.7 did not do so. There is a faint suspicion that it was done by an OS X update. Perfectly horrible!
    Thankful regards
