Encore and .SCC caption files

I 'm having an issue importing an .scc file into field one of an Encore project.
My .scc is a non drop frame timecode and would like to know if there are any converter's to convert either an .smi or .scc non drop frame to .scc drop frame timecode.
Thanks!

I did a hex dump of the working and non-working files. The only difference appears to be where in the working file every time there is a 0a-30, there is 0d-30 in the non-working file. Could this be some line ending or beginning that is invisible otherwise? Both files are saved as Unicode (UTF-8, no BOM). Here is a screen capture: http://www.personal.psu.edu/pzb4/hexdump.png

  • After upgrade to 10.6.5, QT 7 no longer recognizes SCC caption files!

Closed Caption files that worked prior to OS X 10.6.5 are now opening with a black background and the words "Scenarist_SCC V1.0" in the window. What could have possibly been changed in the OS update to affect QT 7 this way??? Is there a conflict with the ClosedCaptionImporter.component? This is a major problem for captioning video for iPods and making accessible video.

This was a no-go. I have since tested the same SCC caption file on another 10.6.5 with the same results. The file works fine and opens correctly under 10.6.4 with QT 7.6.6, but will not open correctly on 10.6.5 with QT 7.6.6. Funny thing is that if I open the file in BBEdit or Text Wrangler and resave it, it opens fine on 10.6.5. It was saved with the same encoding as it was when it was opened, so nothing seems to be different except the way 10.6.5 reads it apparently. I don't even have a clue as to how to figure this out. I see no invisible characters in BBEdit either. What could possibly be different about the file?

I too often have a devil of a time connecting to a Linksys WiFi router with a brand-new unibody MacBook Pro 15", 2.66GHz. I noticed that if I boot the machine off an external Firewire drive this seems to be more of an issue than if I boot off the internal drive.
I beginning to thing there's some kind of interference between the Firewire system and the WiFi system.
The router is a Linksys with the latest firmware update. My MacBook and iPhone 3G, iPhone 4 connect to the router fine.

  • Compressor Cluster - Error message when attaching .scc caption files

    Hello,
We have a 3 XServer Cluster controlled by a 4'th XServer (Our FCServer machine). My workflow is:
Source Video: 1920X1080 ProRes Video (28:30min)
Resized to 640X360 ProRes LT (also de interlaced and some black restore and sharpening applied here)
Encoded 640X360 to H.264 at 750Kb.Sec - .scc files defines in "Additional Information" tab in Compressor at this point.
This job is submitted to the cluster. My submitting machine as well as all cluster machines are all connected to the same fiber network. All files are on the same XSAN.
I am getting the following error message. I get it after it has tried to encode the video:
Status: Failed - 5x HOST [fcsqm2.local] error: Failed to add CC to movie: -50
note: fcsqm2 is one of the encoding machines in the cluster.
I can't seem to find any answers via google. Anyone got any suggestions where I can look? Any ideas?
    Thanks a lot!

  • CS3 Encore and Aspect Ratio

    Hi,
I am trying to close caption an MP4 file in CS3 Encore for DVD output.  I Alt clicked the video track and browsed to the .scc caption files in the properties tab.  I had the aspect ratio of SD NTSC Widescreen (1.2) on the video, but when we view the DVD it's squished into 4:3 and doesn't display correctly.
    Any ideas?

What is inside that mp4 file?
Is it SD (Standard Definition) or HD that must be downsized to SD?

  • What is the best software for creating SCC/MCC files for closed captioning in Premiere pro?

I have experiemented with the demo version of MacCaption to create SCC/MCC files that I am importing into Premiere Pro for Closed Captioning. It seems to work okay, but before I purchase it I was wondering if it is the best software choice for my workflow? Would anyone recommend something different? Thanks!

PMJI, but I recently started using a program called Subtitle Edit (http://www.nikse.dk/SubtitleEdit/) not to be confused with another program called Subtitle Editor.
Subtitle Edit is open source, full featured and supports dozens of file types(in/out and convert).  I use it in conjunction with our Accordent(now Polycom) Capture Station webinar systems.  I haven't used in conjunction with AdobeCS products yet, but it does list Encore and Captivate in it's I/O list.  It's definitely worth a look-see.

We are trying to close caption our telecasts. We get the captioning files done out of house, pull them back into Premiere, and then embed them. The TV station requires .mxf files with the file embedded as a 708 stream, to play on their Grass Valley K2 video servers. We have tried multiple scenarios and cannot get the captions to display.
Whenever I export, it becomes a 608 stream, and will not play on their servers.

    Hello there,
I'm sorry to hear you are having a problem. Thank you for taking the time to post here.
    Here are some questions:
    1. What version of PPRO are you using? MAC or WIN?
    2. Is the caption data you are embedding a 708 caption stream?
    3. When you re-import the MXF with captioning embedded back into PPRO, does it show 708 closed captions in PPRO?
PPRO will embed 708 caption streams to MXF -- I just did this, re-imported the embedded MXF to PPRO, and I see the captions in the MXF.
If you could share one of your files with me, I could take a look.
    Take care and thanks again,
    CM

  • .mxf and .scc files

So here's my stats.  Using FCP 7 and Compressor 3.5 (heard about the nightmares of X and never wanted to touch it).
I've been outputting to mpeg files and transcoding with an .scc file hasn't been an issue.  Now the station is asking for IMX/MXF files.  I've tried every trick I can think of.  Tried "New Job with Target Output", and still the .scc gets stripped away.  So my question is, will FCP X/Compressor 4 work with IMX/MXF files AND .scc files or am I relegated to taking this "out of house"?

    Canon's web site says...
The XF100 utilizes Canon's XF Codec – a file-based MPEG-2 compression with an MXF File Wrapper that ensures the widest compatibility with existing industry infrastructure, metadata and non-linear editing (NLE) systems. The codec's 4:2:2 color sampling provides ultra-fine transitions in tone and color for maintaining the highest image quality needed for advanced post production processing.
Since it is not out I guess no one can say how well it will work with FCP although apparently it will ship with something to enable FCP compatibility.

  • DSP CRASHES ON BUILD WITH CLOSED CAPTION FILE

I've done a search but haven't found a problem similar to mine yet.
I'm using DSP 2.05 and trying to author a DVD with closed captioning. Every time I go to Build/Format, whether it's to a DVD-R or a Disc image DSP shuts down with no error messages at all.
I can successfully Build/Format the same project to a DVD-R or Disc image if I leave out the closed captioning file(.SCC).
Any ideas what the problem might be?
Please let me know if you need more information.
    Thanks for any suggestion!

    Thanks for the suggestion!
I trashed all the parsing files and anything that wasn't vital but haven't tried the Preferences yet. I'll try it and see what happens.

  • SCC captions in Premiere CS5.5

I am trying to view my SCC captions in Premiere Pro CS5.5 as per the instructions here:
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/short-and-suite/closed-captions-in-premiere-pro-cs55/
however, the captions never show up. I have checked that this is a valid SCC file (plays fine in QT 7 Pro), but won't display in Premiere. I see there is a known issue with the 5.5.1 update, but I'm still running 5.5.0.
I have only one video clip in one sequence and I go under the Sequence menu and  select Closed Captioning>Attach File where I then locate my SCC file on my Desktop. I then set the Program Monitor to Closed Captioning Display>Enable (keeping default settings), but when I scrub the timeline there are no captions visible. What am I doing wrong?

    Try this:

  • Text caption in hidden not exported (export /project captions and closed captions)

If you have in your demonstration text caption (ballooons) in
hidden , if you export the project caption to word it's not in
    there...
I use to set some text captions to hidden to ease my life on
slides that contain lots of ballons (and some over other ones) ,
when I export the flash animation, everything is fine , all is in
there (including the "hidden text") .
The trouble is that if i export the "project caption and
closed caption" to Word , the text of captions in hidden is not in
there . (I'm not talking about exporting handsout where you have an
option to export as well hidden slides.)
Exept if I'm wrong, I have not founded any option to manage
the fact to export hidden caption as well (or set all hidden
caption of the demonstration to "not hidden") .
It is really a problem , especially if you have done lots of
movie that needs translation, you have sent the "exported caption"
to the translation service and now you realise that some parts are
    missing .... ;(

    Hi There,
When you export the doc file as Project Caption and Closed Caption. if you change the fonts and style in Doc file and the reimported it in Captivate. It will accept those changes and you can see those changes in Captivate with the same fonts settings.
    Thanks

  • Error by exporting Captivate to Word: "Project Captions and Closed Captions"

    Hello everybody,
I'm from Germany, working in Heidelberg and I've got a problem! I would so much appreciate if somebody would have a solution for it.
Nobody could help me yet - no Adobe support via chat, no Adobe support via phone. They said the forum is my last chance. I'm frustrated. But a solution is important for my ongoing project...
    Description of the problem situation:
I've created an e-learning project in German language. This e-learning shall be translated into other languages, so I want to export a word document with the captions inside. I'm doing this way:
File > Export > Project Captions and Closed Captions, and save it as word doc.
But then, after I typed in a name for the word document, another "Save as"-window appears in the background (I discovered it by coincidence) and wants me to save a word template before the export process starts. Here's a screenshot:
I don't know the reason for this second "Save as" window, so I try to save a word template (I saved it on my desktop, because I don't know where else).
After klicking on "Save" the following error message appears:
(in English: Error by exporting of captions. Try the following things: if Microsoft Word is installed, if Word is open, if the exported file is open etc.)
It's not depending on the captivate file as such, I tried it with other ones (which have only one slide) - the same problem.
It's not depending on my computer, I tried it with another one in my office - there was the same thing, same error message (but without the step of saving a word template!).
Maybe important: My hardware and versions I'm working with...
    Windows 7 Professional (Service Pack 1), 64bit
    Adobe Captivate 8
    Microsoft Word 2010
Does anyone has the same problem or does anyone know the answer for this problem?
I would really really appreciate your answers!! Thank you in advance!
    Chris

    Dear Mayank, dear Lilybiri,
thank you both soooo much, I couldn't belive what I saw as the export of captions worked!!! It was really surprising!
I guess your both solutions helped me out - Mayank's hint of the admin's rights was the necessary information! But it first worked because Lilybiri told me to insist and to try it after I restarted the PC - and to do it several times! So it worked!! Otherwise I would probably still be confused.
    Thank you so much!
    Here's the proof
    Chris
PS: Does anyone know, why I still have to decide if I want to save the "Adobe Captivate" Template thing?
Every time I'm doing an export it asks me every time if I want to save or not save the "Adobe Captivate"-file...

  • Do I need to re-install the WHOLE suite or can I just install just Encore and Premier Pro?????

I'm having a problem with my Encore and Premier Pro software. I have the Adobe Creative Suite Production Studio Premium CS5.1. Encore will not allow me to burn DVDS. I'm getting an 52102 error...won't allow it to finish writing...ALSO Premier Pro stops after capturing about 5 or 10 minutes of video and freezes...do I need to re-install my software??? and if I do... do I need to install the WHOLE suite or can I just install just Encore and Premier Pro????? I can burn and image file and it burns DVDs on my old Corel software so I know its not the burner or the DVDs I'm using..I am in the middle of a big project for kids at school really need to figure this out...not getting anywhere online. Can anyone help??? Has anyone had this problem?  Hope I'm posting this to right place. THANKS!

I haven't had 52102 error, but seen it discussed. Here are a couple of links
    Error = Sense Code 52102
Encore Hardware Error Sense Code 52102
Burning the iso file to the dvd may not be the same process as burning directly from Encore to dvd, and so may not exhibit the same error, if any. See response 1 in the first link.

  • Can't run (Media Encoder or Encore) and Premiere Pro

I finished a sequence, started up Media Encoder, then began editing a new sequence with Premierer.
The result was that after a while, Media Encoder "Not Responding".
I started Media Encoder again and this time I left the room to watch TV.
Media Encoder built the AVI file correctly.
Also Encore died when I tried to use Premiere at the same time.
Is that the rule with CS4 applications?

    Harm
In EN once I click on the Build button to begin building a DVD it will take more than 30 minutes before the DVD comes out.
In the mean time I would like to fire up PR to start editing some other project.
If that is not something I can do then I can use my KVM switch to go to my old PC and produce artwork for the DVD case.
On another topic, I am in the process of making a BluRay DVD with Encore and when I clicked on the Preview button, instead of getting the neat little window that allows me to run a simulation of the DVD menu, I got a huge version of that menu that I could not manuver to get to the controller buttons.
