Encore Chapter Markers

This is the first time I've tried to use chapter markers when burning HD movies to BR disc.  I want two movies on one disc, with a menu at the start of the disc.  I followed the manual, and in the Pro timeline put a chapter marker at the start of each movie, double clicked each marker and typed in the name for that marker, but when it is played, though I can move from one marker to the other by pressing the skip buttons on the remote, the marker names are not displayed either at the start of each movie, or in a menu at the start of the disc.  What am I overlooking?

No, maybe I'm stupid... Ha, ha!
Add a menu to your project. Find the library panel, and add a menu appropriate for your video. I think you are looking for bluray, so any menu with a name that ends "Menu HD." Then all will make sense.
When you said something about "menu" in your first post, I just assumed you had added one. Now I think not.

  • Encore chapter markers which move with clip

Problem: Encore chapter markers which move with clip
    CS4 Production Suite
    XP Pro SP3
I have 9 sequences with each containing 4 Encore chapter markers. As expected in the real world, the end users continually want edits to the sequences. If I razor out a piece of a clip in the sequence, the Encore chapter markers stay fixed to the time ruler and do not move with the clip. As a result, one has to manually move each Encore chapter marker to re-align with the proper location on a clip. This is time consuming and makes no sense. Is there anyway for the Encore chapter markers to act like clip markers so they move with edits?
If not, does someone have a plugin which would look at the Encore chapter markers in a sequence and place corresponding clip markers on Video 1. After editing, the plugin could re-align the Encore chapter markers with their respective clip markers.

What is needed are Encore Chapter Clip Markers so Encore markers follow the clip. Just as you would move the current-time indicator to the frame where you want an Encore chapter point and then right click (Windows) in the time ruler and choose the type of marker, a new context menu item "Encore Chapter Clip Marker" would be available which would place an Encore chapter marker on the clip in the currently selected video track. With this, one could edit the sequence and know the Encore chapter point is still at the same frame of the clip.
I encourage others to either copy this feature description or their own version and submit it to the Feature Request Page for Premiere.
    Feature Request Page
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
One should submit this Feature to both Premiere and Encore since both are effected. By the way, Encore has a Feature Request user form you may also want to submit this to. Premiere does not appear to have a Feature Request user form so I used the Feature Request Page mentioned above.

  • Inconsistent behavior with Encore Chapter Markers

I am considering reporting the following problem to Adobe, but does anyone here have thoughts on whether I am doing something wrong.  If this is a bug, is there a workaround, other than the obvious method of directly starting Encore from within PrPro?
I have a project in PrPro CS5 with 3 Encore Chapter Markers.  When I invoke Encore from Premiere, all three markers appear in the timeline.  However, if I export to an AVI file, which in turn is added to an Encore project, only the first chapter marker is recognized.
    Thanks,
    Steve

I am aware that one can still do the dynamic link invocation of Encore from Premiere after re-editing the clip.
You don't have to "do" anything when you send a Premiere Pro sequence to Encore via Dynamic Link; it's basically a live connection that is active at all times. When you make a change in Premiere, that change is immediately reflected in Encore (assuming, of course, that you haven't already transcoded the DL'ed sequence). You can set up a Dynamic Link either by sending a Premiere sequence to Encore, or by linking to a Premiere sequence from Encore; the end result is the same.
But, if one takes this approach, does one risk destroying their Encore project?  The risk of this is why I chose not to take this approach.
I don't know what you mean by "destroying your Encore project," but suffice to say the setting up a Dynamic Link is a non-destructive process.
What happens to one's Encore project if one were to do the dynamic link to an existing Encore project?
Nothing bad; see the above. If you have the same Premiere sequence DL'ed to two different Encore projects, nothing you do in one Encore project affects the other Encore project or the original Premiere sequence. Now, if you change the sequence in Premiere, those changes will be reflected in all of the Encore projects that use that Premiere sequence. I'm not really sure what it is you're asking here, but hopefully that's what you're referring to.
And what would happen if one had custom menus or had other assets that either came from other contributors or that were generated from outside of Premiere?  My guess is that one would probably have to start their Encore work all over, but hopefully someone can tell me that I'm wrong.
You'll have to clarify what you're talking about here. Note that you can right-click an asset and select Replace Asset... is that what you want to do?

  • Can encore chapter markers auto shift after ripple delete?

I need to break up a 4 hours sequence into two shorter ones to make 2 dvds. However I've already marked all the chapters. I duplicate this long sequence and ripple delete the first half to make the 2nd dvd sequence. However the encore chapter markers didn't move with the ripple delete. Is there a way to attach these markers to certain location of the video clips so I don't have to move them when I change the length of the sequence?
    using premiere and encore cs4

One work-around I can think of is to put a bunch of minute-long dummy video clips on a track and position them on the desired chapter point. These clips would shift along with ripple delete, and I can move the chapter points to line up with these dummy clips quickly.
For the current project I don't plan to ripple delete or change the length anymore, so I manually re-position the chapter points this time, for the last time I hope.
I did switch to dynamic link -- seems to be the only way to get the chapter points into encore, and I'll admit it's an improvement over cs3 where I export an avi file and import that into encore.

  • Ripple Delete including Encore Chapter Markers

    Hi Everyone.....my first post!!!
I'm trying to do a ripple delete of about 25 seconds of video at the start of the time line......the remainder of the time line has 10 Encore chapter markers in there correct places......when I perform the delete the video moves over correctly but the chapter markers stay in there original places and do not follow the 25 second jump.
I have looked in the FAQ's on here and the PP Wiki site and other places and have not found an answer.
Can it be dun?....What do I need to do?
I'll bet it's something simple that I'm missing......surely this feature or setting is built into the program.
Using PP CS3 V3.1.1 Win XP Pro SP3 P4 3.6 HT and 4Gig of ram. Video drive is Fibre Channel array through a Dell 56F switch at the moment
    Thanks for your time.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. Chapter markers (and sequence markers, for that matter) are locked to a specific time code in the sequence. You'll have to change the chapters markers manually, which should only take you a minute or two:
    1) Ripple delete the footage you want to remove from the head of the sequence, making note of the duration of the removed piece.
    2) Right-click on the time ruler on your timeline, and find the option to jump to the next Encore chapter marker. You can also customize your keyboard settings to map the "next" and "previous" commands to your keyboard, which will make this process even faster. In any event, the CTI (current time indicator) will jump to the next chapter marker in the timeline.
    3) Making sure that you have no clips selected in the timeline (press Ctrl + Shift + A to de-select all), use your numerical keypad to type a minus sign ("-") and then the duration that you noted up above. When you press enter, the CTI will jump back that amount of time.
    4) Using your mouse cursor, select the chapter marker where you were just positioned and drag it back to the CTI. It should snap into place. Repeat this process to move the remaining marks, which should not take too long as you only have a few marks.
    Hope that helps...!

  • Encore chapter markers off / different when playing DVD and when watching in Preview mode

    I'm using CS6 and Encore version 6.0.0
I have a 120 min project with about 17 chapter markers. The markers were set to a older version of the project and then I extended the project by about 5 min and did a Replace Asset in the timeline. I adjusted the markers in the timeline. When I view the project in the Preview mode the chapters markers start at the right place but then I burn to DVD and they are off by about a minute.
I've tried deleting the cache and buring again but it's still off.
I think doing the Replace Asset messed things up but when it plays fine in Preview but not on the DVD something is really wrong.
    Thanks

Update: I removed everything from the timeline and started over and entered the chapter markers. They are still off and now it's worse.
I have 21 chapters. 6-10 are off the rest are ok. I am burning to a dual layer DVD but I don't think that would be the reason.
Lastly, the DVD player skips over the final chapter it goes from 20 to the begining of the movie skipping Chapter 21.
    What the heck?!

  • Fix for erroneous chapter markers in Encore CS4

Thought I post my work for all to use. In the mean time, I also hope Adobe picks up this problem and posts a fix for it
If you use Encore chapter markers in Premiere, when you import the media in Encore, your chapter markers are nicely named "ThisIsAChapterMarkerFlag" (at least that is what happens with me and a few others: see other posts in this forum).
I was not so happy with the fix suggested in that post to manually correct the chapter markers in Encore, so I dug a little more.
I have tracked the error down to an error in the creation of the <media.m2v>.xmpses. After having verified that changing that file fixed the error, I decided to write a little program that does this for you, brushing up some very stale C knowledge and picking up a free Visual C++ environment from Microsoft.
Reason for automating is that every time you change the timeline in Premiere and re-export, you would have to do manual work in Encore again.
Well, a few days later, I did build the program and IT WORKS.
So this is how it works:
    * Following the initial suggestion by bowden, when you create a chapter marker in Premiere, copy the name to the comment section of the chapter marker
    * do your export in Premiere
    * run the fix program in a dos prompt in the directory where the exports reside
    * it will convert all the .xmpses files it finds there by copying the comment section to the name section
    * import the media in Encore: voila, there are your chapter markers
If you want to pick up the program:
    ftp://ftp.l3m.nu
    user: Adobe
    password: Xmpses
Oh and no comments please on the style of software writing, it has been more than 20 years since I wrote my last C program :-))
I think this also clearly shows this is a bug in CS4 Premiere (or the media exporter, eitherway). Adobe can you please look into this?
This will definitely work with the integrated work flows supported in CS4 i.e. clikcing on a timeline in Encore, bringing up the timeline for editing in Premiere. But that for know is only a small burden for me.
    Hope this helps
    Lucien

    To All
Well I burnt some time for nothing: it appears that right when I was writing my fix program, Adobe released an update of the Media Encoder that has the problem fixed in the encoder.
So to all: forget my fix, make sure you update to the latest version of AME and you are fine

  • Premiere pro cc chapter markers aren't showing in encore 6

I have a project that I originally created in PP5 using Encore Chapter Markers. I have since upgraded to Adobe CC. When I exproted my project from PPCC and opened it in Encore 6 the chapter markers are not there. How do I fix this?

I see 2 other instances of CC users complaining that chapter info from PR CC is not coming into EN CS6. There were other issues, so that was not tracked down.
Are there users out there for whom PR CC Encore chapters are coming into EN CS6 okay?
Sorry; don't have CC and cannot test myself.

  • Put Chapter Markers in PP or Encore?-CS4

    Hey Folks.
What's the latest on whether it's better to put chapter markers in PP vs. Encore. Seems Encore has a pretty good system for doing this on the tail end of a DVD production when creating the menu. Given the many problem posts on putting markers in PP, exporting with AME, then finishing up in Encore, do you think it best to do it in Encore?
Thanks, everyone (snakes and rabbits included).

I agree with Jim. If you place Markers in PrPro, just remember that it offers several types of Markers. Just make sure that you are using the proper ones, and that all criteria are met. At one time, one had to add something in the Name section of the Marker dialog. It could be just a single character, but something had to be added. Not sure it that need has been dropped in later versions?
Though I seldom use Chapter Markers, when I do, those are usually placed in Encore.
One additional consideration is the exact placement of Chapter Markers. If one has full I-frame material, then all Frames are fair game for the placement of a Chapter Marker. If one has Transcoded to a GOP structure, then they are limited in the placement to just on an I-frame. If you Transcode to MPEG-2, prior to Import into Encore, you might want to add the Encore Chapter Markers in PrPro.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Want to keep my chapter markers when exporting to a .mov

I'm (very) inexperienced with video editing in general but have been finding my way with premiere pro. I'm at the stage where I am ready to export. I want to create a .mov file and leave in all the chapter markers I have already set.
After the last export there seems to be some recognition that the chapters are there however they all seem to be set at the 00:00:00 mark (all 20+ of them)
It's 60 minutes of footage from a Roller Derby bout. I am exporting with these setting 1080i, 29.97fps, progressive, quality 90, h.264, uncompressed sound. (any advice on changing these settings for optimal performance for sports footage with a smaller file size would also be greatly appreciated)
Chapter markers are "encore chapter markers" regular markers don't seem to work either.
    Thanks!

Not sure as I've never tried it and don't have anythng BT except my Android phone.
Once the system boots and get connected with the BT keyboard & mouse I don't see why not.

  • Premiere CS4 DVD Chapter Markers Not Exporting

The Encore chapter markers do not appear when I import the files into Encore. I am exporting with the "MPEG2-DVD" preset and importing into Encore.  I tried Dynamic Link in both directions to/from Encore. btw, Dynamic Link "Send to Encore" creates a new Encore project. I want to add to an existing project.
I see no settings in the Media Encoder prefs or in the Main Concept "H.264" preset. This used to be automatic. What am I doing wrong?

Make sure you used Encore DVD Markers in your Pr sequence and not just ordinary sequence markers.
Make sure you named the markers and didn't leave the Name field blank.
Make sure you export XMP Metadata like so:
And to add more than one Pr sequence to En, or to add Pr sequences to an existing En project, you have to start from inside En.  Open the En project and use the File | Adobe Dynamic Link command.

  • Quicktime X does not recognize Chapter Markers

I am exporting media in Quicktime format with H.264 codec.
I have three markers labeled as Encore Chapter Markers.
When I open the rendered .mov file in Quicktime Player 7, there are three chapters at the correct timecodes (0:03, 0:18, 0:33).
When I open the rendered .mov file in Quicktime X, there are three chapters all at the first chapter’s timecode: 0:03.
    Why is this not working?
I am using Adobe Premiere Pro 6.0.2 on Mac OS X 10.8.4.

For those with a similar problem, I read somewhere on the Apple forums that Metadata Hootenanny will add chapter tracks that appear correctly in QuickTime X. http://www.applesolutions.com/bantha/MH.html
I can confirm it works for me!!!! The chapter tracks show up in Metadata Hootenanny just fine, so it’s a matter of importing the file and saving it again with Chapter Track enabled. Yayayayay!

  • Encore Chapter marks not imported into Encore CS5

I am using Encore dynamic link with Premiere CS5.5 and the timelines are showing up minus all my encore chapter markers. I have gone back to make sure thathat every marker has a chapter title and the "Encore Chapter" marker is set in the option for the marker menu. Oddly enough a much smaller project I did a while back worked fine. Any suggestions?

A quick look, and I'm not sure how this can go wrong, as long as:
You are DLing a sequence that has the Encore marker in it (not in a sequence that is nested).
You are CS5 (or 5.5 I assume; I have CS5) and you are clicking on the Encore marker to add. CS5 does not require you to add names; Encore will autogenerate names if they are missing.
If this is not working, create a new PR project, add a short clip to a sequence, add one Encore marker, DL to a new Encore project. Does it come in?

  • Move Encore Chapters Markers

Hello friends!, Here with a super question: I have my finished sequence and even Encore markers identified, but now I have the need to move the whole sequence a little to the right to insert other clips, how do I get him the sequence moves along with the type Encore chapter markers?
    - It would be ridiculous to think that you can not and would have to move each chapter marker one by one! -

Unfortunately, DVD Markers (Encore Markers) are attached to the Timeline, and not to the Clips in a Timeline, like Clip Markers are. They do not move, when the Clips are moved. About the only way, that I can think of, is to do this manually. Maybe I am missing something, and others can furnish you with the trick.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
    Buena suerte

  • Lock encore DVD markers - possible?

Is it possible? otherwise they stay in place and if you ripple delete somwhere - they are no longer in place!

This would indeed be a good feature request.  Have you filed it here: Adobe Feature Request Form?
    digabyte wrote:
You've never made a change to a project time line once you finished?  ...ever?!
Never changed your mind or found a mistake?
    Wow.
Not at all.  It's just not a big deal to me to have to move the markers if I find that mistake or have a new flash of inspiration.  I don't plan on moving them more than once.  (Okay, maybe not more than twice.)   Plus, I'm going to check each chapter point again anyway, even if the ripple delete for chapter markers function existed.  It's a good feature request; IMHO it's not a critical FR.
"Then when the final edit is done, move from clip marker to clip marker
and add Encore chapter markers to the sequence before exporting to
    Encore."
Having to change 30 clip markers at the end of a project is a major pain.
Not if you follow my "workaround".  Use a keyboard shortcut and you can get the new chapter markers inserted in less time than it takes you to read this post.
