Encore chapters issue....different breaks after DVD build

I have a project I exported from Premier using Dan Isaac's method and have imported into Encore. The project contains a main menu and 2 sub menus, each containing 6 chapter selection buttons. When I preview the main and both sub menus in Encore, the chapter selection buttons take me to the chapter starts that I have created in Encore by right clicking the timeline and selecting Add chapter point. But after I build the DVD in Encore and play it, the main menu and 1st submenu work great. But, on the second submenu, chapter selection button 7 takes me to the chapter it should, but chapter buttons 8-12 take me to segments in the video that don't have a chapter point added to them in Encore. The main menu also has an Outakes button that is at the end of the timeline and this also takes me to the middle of a clip.
It seems like once I make a chapter point past a certain part of the timeline, none of them will sync with the chapter selection button I've created and sync'd via the drag & join whip in Encore.
Any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks for any advice, I'm a week behind schedule now and really need to get this master delivered today!

Joe,
Your workaround is my normal workflow, but that is how I edit: Chapters = Sequences in PP and are Exported individually as elemental streams (Video only = DV-AVI and Audio only = AC3 DD 5.1 SS). With the advent of Playlists, this method has been, so far, flawless.
I would *guess* that Stanley is right-on with the GOP break idea for the failure with the MPEG files.
Good luck,

  • Encore SD Project Changes size after DVD Burn?

Okay I've never had any issues with Encore CS5.5, but most of my experience is with HD video so I could be missing something simple...
I built a Premiere Pro project and Adobe Dynamic Link'ed it over to Encore, created the menus etc and everything is great. Check Project finds no issues, it Previews perfectly and looks like this:
(screenshot taken directly from the Encore 'Preview' window)
Once on the DVD, I place the DVD into a DVD player and it comes out like this:
(Picture of DVD loaded in DVD Player/TV, where for some reason it has cut down all sides)
I tested it with multiple TV's and DVD players, changes aspect ratios, doubles checked that both Premiere and Encore files are correct sizes....... Having not worked with SD videos in Encore before... is there something simple I'm missing? I have the client waiting for the DVD, but I'm completely at a loss.
    The footage is 720x480, 29.97fps

Alright, I tried double and triple checking the project settings and burned the DVD again, with the same results. Here are the project settings:
    I'm at a total loss.
I will now try what John recommended, though I don't see how that will change because the menu I used I COPIED directly from the stock encore menu library, edited in photoshop and saved back into the Encore library under a different name (as I've always done with ALL previous HD menu's with perfect results. The ONLY difference here being it's SD instead of HD) and the whole project comes out cropped on all four sides.... so I see no way that it could be an issue on the Premiere side of things.
I'll still try it though because I'm completely at a loss......

  • Encore CS5.1 - Black project after flash build

When I export my encore project to flash all my videos are black, can't see anything.
Everything works fine though in preview mode, I can see everything.
What could I be doing wrong?

I am playing locally.  I read on another forum with someone who had grey project they had to rename their source files because it included characters that was messing with the xml file.
I don't really know how xml works but I tried doing the same thing since i recall having many hyphens, but that didn't do anything either.
I don't understand what could be causing this to happen.
Do you NEED time lines in Encore?  I have Menu with 5 buttons, split to 5 additional menus (with buttons).  Every menu I have has a background video (mp4) attached to it.  They all loop/connect to each other.   It's like a browse products type of thing.
Now preview works perfectly, but does not having a timeline have anything to do with my problem?  I don't see why it would be a problem, but this is my first time using this program.

  • Dual Layer 'Navigaion Failure' on DVD Build in Encore CS4

    All,
I've searched the forum and see several post regarding dual layer DVD burning, but none recent.
I'm trying to burn a dual layer DVD ( Memorax DVD+R DL), using Encore CS4.   Everything encodes fine, but when Encore starts to actually burn the DVD, I get an error message "navigation build failed' (or something like that, I don't have it in front of me right now).  And yes, I did select the correct size DVD setting.  :-)
Does anyone had this trouble or have any suggestions?
    TIA,
    jd

    JD,
I would scrap the Memorex blank discs, and use Verbatim instead. Memorex has a very unpopular business model - buy the absolutely cheapest media from whomever and emboss the Memorex label onto it. In spindles of 100, users have reported up to 4 different mfgrs. stuff. One might get 10 discs that work, and then 10 that flat do not. There are several utilities that will tell you who the actual mfgr. is and the lot number. I just use the free burning utility, ImgBurn, as it will read the blank disc and report.
Now, Memorex is an easy target for me, and one of the "usual suspects," so there could be something else going on. Just in case there is, please give the full details of your Project, with Asset types, specs., and how your navigation is setup, and especially the Layer Break.
    Good luck,

  • Dynamic Link (Adobe Premiere Pro to Encore) issues with burning a DVD from the project file

    Hello,
I am running Adobe Suite CS 5.1 on my Mac:
    2.8 GHz Quad Core
    6GB Memory
I've been having issues with a few projects; using Dynamic Link, directly from my project in Premier, to send them to Encore:
When attempting to burn a DVD, Encore will 'hang up' and not burn; I rarely burn to DVD, usually I'm always encoding for web, and just always use the 'default settings' in Encore.
    A few things to note:
*In my project I'm using MOV files, from a Canon 7D, and MP4 files, from a Sony EX-1.
*I am working off of 3 separate hard drives; very large projects with over 5TBs of media files.
*I noticed that after inserting a DVD, it caused one of my hard drives to eject; this happened once, as far as I know.
*This only happens when I use Dynamic Link to send to Encore, via my Premiere Pro project file.
*My Project settings are always: XDCam HD-1080p/24p
    Please help.
    Thanks

So you must downrez at some point in the workflow. Some users have problems and/or think they get better quality out of direct PR/AME exports than using DL for this purpose.
I would test the workflow by creating three short test sequences - one with a clip from one camera, a second from the other, and a third with both in a sequence using the same settings you are using in your edit. I would use the "drag a clip" to the new item method for making each of the first two sequences. By short I mean 30 seconds to 2 minutes with a mixture of still and action.
Export using whatever method you pick of those recommended, but use CBR 8 instead of VBR etc. Bring the resulting files into Encore. Yes, look at the files exported on the computer, and look at Encore preview, etc, but also burn to a disk and watch on multiple TVs. There are lots of issues in best quality.

  • Why does Encore CS5 default to MPEG2-Bluray for a DVD build?

When I begin a DVD build (and, before you ask, I have indeed selected DVD and not Bluray) and select Edit Quality Settings from the menu, the quality settings dialog box shows MPEG2-Bluray in the FORMAT field.  Should I change this to the MPEG2-DVD format?
    I'd appreciate any advice.
    Harry Frank

How odd.  I have never in my life built a Bluray disk, and I have always used Encore’s defaults for DVD builds.  Yet, it is the MPEG2-Bluray format that invariably shows up when I check the quality settings.  Any thoughts?

  • Why is Encore producing such bad standard definition DVDs?

Hi everyone I really need your help, Encore makes me wanna pull my hair out. We just switched from Final Cut Pro to the new Adobe CS6 Production Suite so I am fairly new to this set-up so please point out anything that I am doing wrong, any pointers, anything... I really want to learn.
Here is the issue: I have my project looking great in Premiere Pro, when I export to Encore, it still looks nice... then when I burn the DVD...all the drama unfolds..the picture is soft, grainy and just downright nasty looking. The color of the footage looks nice on my monitor and another one in the studio and even my bosses' PC laptop but in some DVD players the talent looks like they have a tan... the reds are just way off.  We even have some footage from a RED camera and just as a test burned that to a DVD and the same exact thing happened. I have lived on the forum for days and have exhausted all efforts so I am reaching out to everyone...
Here is some info on the footage, the sequence settings and what I have tried:
The footage was filmed with a Panasonic AG - HPX170P Camera using the DVCPRO50 720p/24p format.
    (Footage specs: 960 x 720 - Frame Rate: 29.97 (24p) - Pixel Aspect ratio : 1.3333
The Premiere Pro sequence setting was chosen from the sequence presets under DVCPROHD / 720p / DVCPROHD 720p 24
The specs of that preset is:
    Editing Mode: P2 720p 60HZ DVCPRO HD
    Timebase: 23.976 Frames Per Second
Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD Anamorphic 1080 (1.333)
Fields: No Fields : Progressive scan
    Display Format: 24fps Time code
    What I have tried:
Dynamic link - Encore doesn't like the AE comps that are in the sequence. I rendered those out and dropped them back in with the same result...In Encore they would stutter and skip when played.
I then exported out of Premiere through the Media Encoder as a quicktime file, H.264 and MPEG-DVD. All of these files look great in Encore but burned to a DVD.
I'm on a Mac so I couldn't try the windows codecs to see if that helped either.
Anyone have any ideas? Now, there could be some media veterans out there bursting out in laughter and know exactly what is going on so please do share with this young media grasshopper. Thanks to everyone for their patience and willingness to help. I find it awesome that there are people out there that want to help others.
Everyone have a great day, happy editing...
    Much thanks,
    -Darby

Mr. Smith! Thank you so much sir for your reply... the tutorials link is worth its weight in gold!
I  tried the MPEG2-DVD method after reading on these forums to try that when the Dynamic Link doesn't work..in fact... I think that was you
The MPEG2 - DVD  looks really nice in Encore but once it is on a DVD not so much at all... I talked to Adobe Support today and they even admitted that it shouldn't look that bad, after almost 3 hours of experimenting the gent exported out of Premiere Pro as a QuickTime file with the Video Codec being Animation. It still isn't the greatest but he said that is all he could do, that thatwas the best he could get out of Encore. He did play the DVD that I burned through the VLC Media Player and it looked decent so could it be Encore? To me that can't be the best that Encore can do, professional businesses use this software and I know they can't just be putting out crap and accepting it as such.  I know it's hard to know what I'm saying without seeing it.
When I played the DVDs on my Mac, they looked pretty good color wise, but when I played them on DVD players hooked to TVs the talent's faces were almost a sun burned color. Could it be the DVD players? I am going to do some more experimenting playing the DVD on different DVD players tonight and see if anything comes from it, check out the tutorials that you sent over and if all else fails call Adobe back. I'll let you know how it turns out in case someone else has the same problem.
Thanks for your help agian Mr. Smith, it's greatly appreciated!

  • Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro - ...trying to record with Videostudio, Virtual VCR, Roxio DVD Builder

...just bought (and installed) a SoundBlaster Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro - the one with the "breakout box" - to replace the on-board Dell audio sound system, which seems to have died after 4 months.
I am able to get good, clear sound from any and all applications that use "playback" audio.
At present, I can get "playback sound" from one program feature that came with my capture device - an Aver Media USB 300, which was plugged in to the "Line in 2" socket on the break out box. Then I tried to record with it... - "Record Operation Failure!" I'm stilll waiting to see what responses I get from the Aver message board in that regard.
Then I tried recording video (and the accompanying audio) with Ulead Videostudio 8, Virtual VCR, and Roxio DVD Builder, none of which could record sound, even in "preview mode". Before the on board sound system stopped functioning, those features worked on all of the above programs except for Virtual VCR, which I hadn't yet installed or tried out.
I've checked the Play/Record Volume Control in "Accessories/Entertainment" and the Line 2 is activated and selected. I've tried plugging in to Line /Mic but that hasn't worked either. I need to go to Radio Shack to get an adapter to plug in to Line 3 and give that a try.
But before I spend even more money, have you ever seen anything like this?
    - Jeff.

    Jorge,
Thanks kindly for the suggestion, during the installation it did not complain about this patch being installed allready, I'll give this one more shot and see if it persits.
I ran memtest on the machine (10 cycles) wow this thing (G5) is loud in single user mode. I guess the fans don't have power management enabled.
I'm guessing that the issue is from lack of RAM, (512) but I am not 100% on this. Though my research points towards that, It's kind of odd that an app would reach into some other memory segment.
    Thank You Again.
I throught all Tiger updates would be obtainable via "Software Update" . I should have searched support.apple.com first.

  • DVD Build Process Fails

I am using DVD Studio Pro 4.0.3 and I have attempted the Build process on my project several times but the progress bar never gets past 0%. But DVD Studio Pro never crashes or even hangs. What I have noticed, upon looking under the name column in the activity moniter is "DSPX_AEncoderServer (Not Responding)". Although I don't know much about this app, I assume it is essential to the build process.
Several months ago, I was able to burn a DVD from a simpler version of this project. Things that have NOT changed are that the Main Feature is about ten minutes long and also certain menus and screens are based on unrendered Motion files. What has changed is that two more unrendered Motion menus have been added and one of these has become very complex, containing several video windows such as you might see from a DVD Chapter Selection Screen.
I had assumed these Motion files would be rendered as part of the DVD Build as they were in my original version of this project. I assumed that was the best approach to avoid artifacts. The Motion files run quite sluggishly however and I am concerned that perhaps they are overloading the processor and causing the encode process to crash. Do you think that the best way to resolve this issue would be to first render these Motion files as Quicktime using the Animation Codec and then replace the Motion files with the Quicktime files, Before going through this, I just wanted another opinion as to whether there was anything I had overlooked.
Thank you so very much for any suggestions you may be able to offer.
    Julianna

Thanks for your advice. I'm just not sure I understand what application to use to convert a Quicktime file into an m2v. Are you also saying that motion files aren't supposed to be directly imported into DVD SP? Would I choose the CODEC for DVD Best Quality? After encoding, do I move the old files and relink to the encoded files? I'm somewhat new at this, a little more explaination would be very helpful. Thanks so much.
Usuallly the best way in general is to encode
everything you can outside of DVD SP (Compressor,
bitVice, etc.) to m2vs and AC3s and then bring those
assets in - often stalls on builds can be cured by
    that.

  • Encore CS 5 hangs when burning DVD

    Windows 7 64-bit
    Encore CS 5.1
Burned 2 projects successfully (6 Discs).  Then:
It hangs at "Writing Files ..."
The DVD burner will keep spinning at high speed with LED flash (writing) but no progress is shown in Encore.
At that point, cancelling the build no longer work as it stucks at "Cancelling".  I can't close the program either.  The only way out is to kill it in Task Manager.  That leaves the DVD burner spinning until the shut down.
Tried a few times, same results.  The Disc is no longer empty after that and it show little writing on the surface.
Tried to upgrade QuickTime.  Same results.
    Followed
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/641646?tstart=0
    to
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/629151?tstart=0
    Installed Roxio pxengine fix
    Same results.
I realized the 2 failed projects have muxed mpg files instead of separate video/audio.  Have not yet tested if that's the problem.
Work-around: build to DVD folder and use ImgBurn to write to Disc.  It works fine.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Mavericks causes problems.
Some users reports the following fixes their problems:

The earliest mavericks problems reported was the photoshop -1:

The workaround was not to left-click on the menu. Use right click, or other options and menu commands.

  • PGC Internal Software Error During DVD Build

After weeks of editing my 77-minute feature and days of DVD authoring effort, it's more than a bummer to see this appear during the final DVD build process:
PGC "Analysis" has an error at 47:21:29 internal software error %0 line . . . PGC Info; name=Analysis, ref FPGE time 47:21:29.
I verified the project before the build and there were no errors/warnings. I tried several times and get the same error at the same spot; I tried creating an image and the same error takes place at the same spot. I previewed the entire thing in Encore and everything plays/sounds great. All the footage/sound was imported as two large, uncompressed DVI files exported from PPro 2.0. The video is 16:9, 24p. Most of the sound came straight from the source video feed, except for two WAV files containing theme music.
What can I do to get this production finished-- of course, I am behind schedule...

So, finally I've found the source of the problem and a workaround!
    First the source:
when Encore has to transcode a video it must corrupt the file, because it's the transcoded file that causes the problem, I tried this by importing a transcoded file into Encore 1.5 there it came with the same error.
Now the workaround, ok maybe it isn't quite a workaround but it's a way to go:
What I did was: I built my project new in Encore 1.5, because Encore 2.0 has a problem importing the videos by me, but if you would just import the videos in 1.5 and let 1.5 transcode them so that all of them would fit on a DVD you should be able to import the transcoded files in CS3 and it should work, no guarantee.
Other possibility: try opening your project in encore 2.0 and re import your videos there and let 2.0 do all of the transcoding, that might work too!
But for certain: don't let encore CS3 do all the transcoding!
I'm working with PAL files I don't know if it will be the same by NTSC, but it's worth a try!
If anybody feels like reproducing the bug, here is the way to do it:
Make a project in Encore CS3 and import Videos encoded by premiere as MPG2-DVD (I think: .m2v .wav) and set the transcoding options to automatic, encore should have to transcode the files. Then let encore make the DVD, at some point you should get that nice PGC error!

  • DVD builds with screen captures from Camtasia Studio

I cannot get quality DVD builds from Encore when the avi input is from Camtasia Studio.
From Camtasia, I export to full uncompressed avi. The DVDs come out blurry or twitching or both. I have tried the avi files in Premiere with the same results. This file does not seem usable by Encore or by Premiere. I also tried exporting to mp4.  I have tried different aspect ratios and frame rates.
    Any help is appreciated.

my video is still blurry when I play it in Premiere. I used all the same settings you used in the tutorial
Then as I said earlier, it's likely that you are running into problems with scaling and interlacing/deinterlacing the footage.  Investigate the frame size of your source screen captures as compared to the frame size of your Camtasia export and as compared to the DVD frame size of 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL).  Investigate whether you interlaced the footage on export from Camtasia or on import into En or Pr.  Screen caps are always progressive. Also pay attention to your frame rates; encoders that output legal DVD video handle 29.97 fps, 25 fps and 23.976 fps differently.

  • Some, but not all, podcasts existing on the iPod no longer appear in iTunes. Different podcasts have been affected at different times, after changes in the state of the iPod. Only podcasts are affected.

I have not seen this precise issue addressed anywhere. I don’t know if it’s an iTunes or an iPod problem:
    - Some, but not all, podcasts existing on the iPod no longer appear in iTunes;
this, after normal behavior for more than a year since purchase of the iPod.
    - Different podcasts have been affected at different times, after changes in the state of the iPod.
    - Only podcasts are affected.
    - This concerns an iPod nano 6th gen. and iTunes 11.0.2 (26) on System 10.6.8
    - The only change to iTunes, the Mac, or the iPod is that just before this condition began
I’d begun syncing an iPhone via iTunes.
I sync manually (“manually manage music and videos”). The first time this happened, I wanted to delete seventeen podcast episodes (all belonging to one podcast) existing on the iPod — but they didn’t show up in iTunes. I tried re-downloading them and re-syncing, to see if the new versions would somehow “re-link” to iTunes. They didn’t. Only one — new — episode appeared in iTunes.
I ultimately reset the iPod and manually resynced all the podcasts I currently had on iTunes. That worked, though I had to painstakingly add in all the other content deleted by the reset.
So: after that reset and manual sync, all podcasts and episodes on the iPod were visible to iTunes and I was able to delete the podcast and its — now 18 — episodes I’d wanted to get rid of to begin with. But the next time I connected the iPod, only 8 podcast episodes out of 21 episodes total existing on the iPod were visible to iTunes. These are different podcasts; I’d deleted the original “invisible” ones.
By “visible,” I mean in the “Podcasts” list view under “[name]’s iPod” in the iTunes sidebar. If I select “[name]’s” iPod in the iTunes sidebar and the “Podcasts” tab, all podcasts and episodes are visible, though greyed out because I’m set to sync manually. It’s unclear to me if these are the podcasts on the iPod or those currently in iTunes, as they are currently the same. If I switch to syncing automatically, all content on the iPod will be lost again, so I’m not up to trying it at the moment.
As I said,  this involves only podcasts. All other content on the iPod does appear in iTunes.

I have the same problem- i see my movies in the ipod section in itunes and they even show as mpeg4 in the 'kind' section but they dont have that small TV icon next to them. if i play these in itunes, they play fine- but try playing them on the ipod and all you hear is the sound and no picture. All videos that i manually transfer work fine in the beginning- its when i hook up the ipod to the comp again and start itunes- they start showing up without the 'tv' icon!! i have to again transfer them from the itunes library to activate them as videos.

How would I beableto restore anything?

  • Terminus 9pt font issue in Konsole after upgrade

I have a slightly weird font issue in Konsole following a bunch of upgrades today. Basically, at the beginning of the command line and the beginning of subsequent words on that line, the very first character sort of flashes and gets truncated if it is one of several letters. Very narrow characters are not affected (e.g. i) but most are (e.g. n, g, m, r etc.). Once I press enter, the characters look perfectly normal - the issue only occurs on the line being edited and while I am entering or within words as opposed to spaces. Moreover, it only occurs for the first letters of words. Subsequent letters look fine. Once a space is typed following the first word, the character looks normal unless and until I type another letter or return to edit the first word. If I type "cat" it will be a truncated c; at "cat " all looks fine; then "cat c" and the first c is truncated; "cat cat " all is well; "cat c" with the cursor moved back over the second c and the second c rather than the first is truncated.
Any thoughts as to what I should check? I'm using the infinality stuff from AUR. I updated that last night. However, I don't _think_ I saw the issue today until after upgrading the kernel. Here are the last entries from pacman.log:

I'm using Terminus (TTF) in size 9 in Konsole. This hasn't been changed for quite a while.
Any suggestions on how best to troubleshoot this? Is it possible that I need to rebuild some other AUR packages associated with the infinality ones but which haven't actually been updated? Or is it likely to be to do with something else in the list?
EDIT: It only seems to be some fonts at some sizes e.g. Monaco 8pt is OK but Terminus 9pt isn't; Terminus 10pt is OK; etc.
