Encore crashes at "Initiaizing Transcoding" - Workaround

New W7 machine with fresh CS4 Prod Prem install.
Encore CS4 locks up machine at "Initializing Transcoding". I updated drivers including my video driver and the Roxio driver recommended elsewhere, with no success. Finally disabled my DVD burner in Device Manager, and Encore opened without any problems.
I can move on this way, but obviously this is not ideal. Any ideas would be appreciated

OK - well, it would appear I need to not respond to a post just because something appears to work.  Yes, the work around does allow me to run Encore.  There is, however, absolutely no integration what-so-ever with Premier through bridge.
Kinda sucks!  I wanted to create a really fast DVD - link a timeline to Encore, and burn the DVD...  Nope - not gonna happen on Windows 7 64 Bit - you have to create the interim file, import the file as an asset, create the DVD, then delete the interim file...
Please, please Adobe - fix this issue!  The integration between all the various products is great, but only when it works.
Hope this is fixed soon!
Cheers,
SK

  • Encore Crashes near end of burn process

    Hello,
I am trying to burn a DVD in Encore CS4 on my MAC. I created this DVD using Premiere and then used Adobe Dynamic Link to bring the Sequences to Encore. The DVD is 13 chapters and about 1 hour 12 minutes. After creating the DVD in Encore, I was able to burn one copy. I noticed some items that needed to be updated so I made the changes in Premiere and then attempted to open the .NCOR file to bring the changes in. Many times, Encore will hang up when opening the file - I able to get the file open and made some changes, and burned one copy... Another viewing lead to so final changes. I am now trying to burn 10 copies of this DVD. Again after making the changes in Premiere, many times Encore will hang up when opening the .NCOR file. The couple times I have gotten it open, it has transcoded for 12-14 hours and then crashed prior to burning anything.
    This is incredibly frustrating!
I did try to create a new Encore project using the menu and importing the same sequences as in the first project, but Encore hung up when bringing in the first sequence via Adobe Dynamic Link.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Ted

I am now trying to burn 10 copies of this DVD. Again after making the changes in Premiere, many times Encore will hang up when opening the .NCOR file. The couple times I have gotten it open, it has transcoded for 12-14 hours and then crashed prior to burning anything.
This does not fix your transcoding/build problems, but build to a folder or image or folder, then use that as the source (rather than the project), to avoid needing to burn one more and having the whole build hassle again.
Many times, Encore will hang up when opening the file - I able to get the file open and made some changes, and burned one copy.
On windows, so other issues may be present. I was only briefly on CS4 (on WinXP), and more on CS5 (on Win7). I found that some projects just had a very long load time - they appeared to hang, but did not.
I had one sequence (only the one from a particular project) that would hang. I found I could work around that one if I opened it in Premiere before opening the Encore project.
it has transcoded for 12-14 hours and then crashed prior to burning anything.
If it is a transcode problem, this won't help, but I prefer doing a "transcode now" so that that step is separate from the build.

  • CS3 Encore Crashing Repeatedly

Encore crashes repeatedly. Almost always when I hit the end action setting. When it crashes and is restarted, all the work I have done disappears, even though I am saving after each change. (!) The project is two hours long.
Running XP; 2.8 CPU; two gigs ram.
Could not find anything with Google search or forum search. I nuked some other freeware DVD programs and installed update 3.01. Have not tried to run Encore again.
    Aaaaack...gotta get this project done.

While I haven't read anything in this thread, I have just gone through 2-3 days of testing out theories and stuff.
About 6 months ago or so I upgraded from encore 1.5 to cs3 because I had a project of a dv avi file transcoded in 1.5 that no matter what I did would not burn a disc or create a folder or image. I gave up and upgraded to cs3 and the project burned right away!
fast forward to this weekend. The same situation came up AGAIN! Now, I had been having continual issues any time I use automatic transcoding for standard dvds, they would come out jittery. My editing system is a high pentium 4 3.2 ghz single core processor. I recently aquired a duo core processor laptop, and so this weekend tried an auto transcode in the duo core laptop with the same jittery results. I also tried disabling hyperthreading in my single core. My project kept erroring upon trying to build. I narrowed down the issues slowly to a point I knew it was the transcoding of the motion menus within encore. I re-enabled hyperthreading and it worked, it built properly!
So bottom line is, I KNOW that disabling hyperthreading is a bad thing for CS3 (and most likely transcoding with it off). And I KNOW for some unknown reason, automatic transcoding always produces jittery video regardless of processor. I theorize now that auto puts it into a progressive rather than an interlaced mode. And it forces you that way, there is no way to change anything unless you go to manual transcoding.
But through the process this weekend, I learned that Premiere Pro 1.5's media encoder can also make an mpeg 2 file from the timeline. It actually seemed to go much faster than in Encore as well. Also, Premiere's is good because you can add markers throughout the timeline, and it will embed the info necessary (GOP's?) to later add a chapter mark in the exact frame you intended upon importing the transcoded mpeg 2 file into encore.
HOWEVER, I found out the hard way that premiere 1.5's media encoder produces a wav file for the audio track, and a .m2v file extension for the video track. If you import that as is into Encore CS3 it will fail. If you rename the extension from m2v to m2p, it will then import without erroring. (I figured this out because I also tried another program to transcode the avi file and compared file name extensions).
Hope this helps someone out! By the way, I am stuck with Premiere 1.5 right now because I am still using Canopus DV Storm which stopped supporting Premiere after 1.5 and went on to solely using their own NLE software called Edius.

  • Premiere CC 7.2.2 crashes when trying to export via Media Encoder and Encore crashes while DVD build

    Hello,
    My computer is a:
    2x Intel Xeon Processor E5-2650 (2000 MHz, 20MB);
    16x Kingston DIMM 8 GB PC3-8500 ECC Reg.;
    PNY Quadro 4000 with 2048 MB GDDR5-RAM;
    PNY Tesla C 2075
    2x 2000 GB Western Digital RE4 (7200 UPM/S-ATA II) as a RAID I
    1x 120 GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD
1x 240 GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD (system disk)
    Tyan S7050GM4NR motherboard
    Windows 7
I freshly installed Windows 7 and the CC-Apps PremierePro, After Effects, Media Encoder, Photoshop and Speedgrade.
When I try to export any video from premiere to the media encoder premiere crashes without any error message. The problem is not the project: I created several new projects and even if I only have one Graphic-File/Bars/h264-video in the timeline that I try to export: premiere crashes. When I export directly from premiere it works, but there is no chance to go via media encoder. The strange thing is that I can export from after effects to the media encoder without any problem...
Second Problem: Encore crashes also. Everytime I try to build a DVD => Encore crashes
    Does anybody have an idea?
Here is what I already tried:
Yesterday it worked fine today it crashes when I export from premiere via media encoder.
    1. Bars+Tone => export => crash
    2. Video Project with 2 short h264-files => export => crash
    3. I used Software only renderer => crash
This is the Windows log that I found:

  • Encore CS4 Fails to Transcode

Guys the problem I already decided to freeze, but I have another problem, when I go to transcode some videos in encore cs4, it's transcode failed, someone help me? I'm using Encore CS3 to get to transcode.

You must provide step-by-step DETAILS of what you are doing, especially the files you are using and all of your project settings

  • Encore CS5 insists on transcoding .m4v

    Kind of stuck here.
Trying to author a Blu-ray and I encoded a large video file out of Premiere CS5 with Media Encoder CS5 using H.264 Blu-ray.
I always do this and then bring the clips into Encore and it never tries to transcode them but for this particular project it insists on transcoding and the transcoded file packs in another 4GB or so.
    Here are my encoding settings:
    Format: H.264 Blu-ray
    Codec: Main Concept H.264 Video
    TV Standard: Automatic
    Frame dimensions: 1440x1080
    Frame rate: Automatic
    Field Order: Automatic
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Automatic
    Profile: Main
    Level: 4.1
    Bitrate Encoding: VBR, 2 Pass
    Bitrate Level: Custom
    Target: 25Mbps
    Maximum: 30Mbps
I don't get why Encore won't build without transcoding first.   The initial encode took 20 hours and I don't want to wait for Encore to transcode the video again nor do I want the extra 4GB.
Any ideas as to what happened with my encode or is it a problem with Encore?
    Thanks.

    Pyramid Pyro wrote:
Agreed.  If this is pre-audio then my idea is not correct.
My guess is that there is still a bit rate issue even if the file settings are correct.  A bitrate analyzer may help, but that sounds like a lot of trouble (determining if the large/master file somehow clips just of the 30 mark and your short sample does not).
I like Ann's idea best so far
    Best of luck,
    Erik
Yeah, even if I change the project settings to 40.0Mbps and reimport the clip Encore still wants to transcode.
At this point I'm thinking something went wrong with the encode and I should just re-encode and try again.
Unless someone has another idea, I'll post my results when the encode is complete.

  • Encore crash very often

    Hi,
I have a intel core i7, a msi eclipse sli mainboard, 6GB ram (corsair), an asus GTS250 dark knight grafic card and two raid systems with 2 mirror hdd 1TB and 2 stripe hdd with 2TB. Also a LG Blu-Ray writer and a lg dvd writer drive.
The problem is, encore crash very often when i use the adobe link from premiere to encore or when i burn a dvd (mostly a image to disk) during the encoding prozess!
All adobe updates are installed, the newest grafic card driver (25.03.2010), mainboard bios, ....
are anyone else with such problems?

  • Encore freezes up during transcode in CS5

    Hi,
I have a 2 hour project shot in HD (1080-60i). It transcodes to a Blu-ray DVD just fine.
However, when I try to produce a SD DVD using the same project, my computer freezes up: the transcoding seems to continue on the background but the mouse, keyboard and other programs freez up. The system shows that this happens when the utilized RAM reaches 11GB out of 12GB available. My set up is i7-930, 12GB RAM, 5 dedicated HDD with plenty of space. The only thing I can do is a cold restart as the keyboard is dead and Ctr+Alt+Del do not function.
Any ideas why this is happening and potential solutions?
    Thank you.

Thank you folks for the tips.
Very helpful guide by Jeff on creativecow.net - thank you too.
Jeff, can you please share your opinion on the workflow that would produce better/more consistent results:
    1. I'm going to cite one of the guys from your CreativeCow post: 'instead of just "send to encore" inside premiere and transcode in Encore ...it's better to encode to MPEG2 DVD in PrPro and then just start a new Encore project and import into Encore and burn...correct?' - is this the preffered workflow, or
    2. I can use my HD project authored in Encore, select the proper settings to transcode it to SD in Encore (like 'Use maximum render quality') and come up with a SD versoin of my HD footage without sending the footage for down-rez to PrPro?
    Thank you

  • "Error setting up transcoder" Then how do I stop Encore from trying to transcode?

All my assets are DVD compliant MPEG-2s or AC3s made with MainConcept. All assets are set to "Don't Transcode". Yet when I try to build the ISO or DVD Folder, after the initial long pause the status window appears and within seconds I get this error.
This doesn't make sense to me. Why is Encore even trying to transcode anything? How do I stop it from doing so? What's the point in having the option to select "Don't Transcode" when its going to try and do it anyway?
Anyone found a way round this? This is really urgent as I must have this project done for Christmas day as its a present. Thanks

    What am I, a mind reader? ;)
If you can transcode other projects in Encore, then I'd suggest you do a SaveAs on the project, and then in the copied project, begin deleting assets until you can build without error. Then add them back one at a time and build again until you find the culprit(s).

  • Encore CS3 Freezes when Transcoding

I opened an older DVD menu that was made in Encore CS2. I made some changes to it cleaned up orphan timeline and dead links and added audio to menu. When I tried to export it to DVD it freezes when transcoding and locks my work station. I've done this several times on CS2 but this is the first time I have done this in CS3 and I get this problem. I tried transcoding seperately and my PC still freezes. The encore preview menue is great. Does the program only transcode AVI or does it do AVI and MP3. I really dont understand fully what it does when transcoding because either it didn't do this in CS2 or it did but it was flawless so I paid it know attention. Any assistance would be great.

  • Encore CS4 crashes when opening transcoded project

I have made previous dvds/blu-rays with these steps before, but I'm running into problems now, here is what I've done:
    1. Create new encore blu-ray project.
    2. Import everything and setup project.
    3. Burn project to dvd image.
    4. Burn project to blu-ray image.
The problem I'm having for my current project is after burning the dvd image, I decided to restart my computer before I made the blu-ray image, and now I can't open the project file.  It says something like "getting transcoding settings", and I can see all the assets show up in the asset list, but then it crashes.
I was not aware of this before, but apparently encore uses C:\Documents and Settings\%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Adobe\Common\Media Cache\ to hold temporary files.  I changed this location under the media encoder properties to use my D: drive.
I noticed that for every time I tried to load the project again, it would create a new set of temporary files in this folder (which took up a lot of space).  I use to think all the temporary files for the encore project were located in a folder within the directory of the encore project file, but I guess not.
Does anyone know anything I can try to get the encore project file to open????

Probably this is due to something cleared out of my suggestions.
Temp files are the one I meant in the previous thread.
When I do some "folishness" I usually clear this files and, after the first time it has to rebuild, every re-opening of the project takes just a min. max.
The names of the folders sound like a DVD project and not a BR one as you've said.
Have you right clicked over the files and choosing the option "change asset" (eighth line), connect the file to the missed one?
Anyway, no worries, I think that a good brand new project will fix everything.
Remember do not change Archive folder during a project, do it before.
    Ciao

  • Encore CS5 Crashing System during Transcodeing

I'm having the same issues as some other users. I've successfully completed 20+ projects on the same system but recently I've had a problem with the system crashing while transcodeing the video, it never makes it to the transcodeing audio step.  No warnings or error messages.  I've tried all of the troubleshooting tips mentioned in other threads with no luck. And it happens when output is a DVD Disc or a DVD Image.
Two things I've noticed that others with this issue haven't mentioned:
after the 3rd crash I went through every setting and noticed the Disc format had changed to Blu-Ray. Maybe I did it myself while troubleshooting but I don't think so.
I'm working on 2 projects. Project 1 is a series of lectures, 3:05 long, no menus, no graphics, chapter marks only at the beginning of each lecture. Project 2 is a concert 1:20 long. Again nothing fancy, no menus, no graphics, chapter marks only at the beginning of each song. Both projects show they have only a couple MB of free space. I thought it was weird since the size of the project was so different.
    Troubleshooting so far:
Adobe software is up to date
All drivers are up to date
Powersaver and Screen Saver are turned off
40+ Gig free space on hard drive
Tried different Write Speeds - 8x has worked fine before, tired both 6x and 4x
    System is not overheating
All of the build settings are correct
    Thanks
    Jim

I had been doing it during the build.  I tried the Transcode now option today. Encore worked on it for about 2 hours before locking up the system. And it did lock up this time. All the other times it crashed the system and rebooted on it own.  The Transcode setting have been set to Automatic every project I've done.  The source material is MP4 files, same camera, same settings, same everything as the previous sucessful projects.
I did start a new test project.  I ran this one as a DVD Image, all other settings the same, but this one was only about 5 minutes long. It took about an hour to trtanscode but it finished the build sucessfully.

  • Encore DVD 2.0 crashes program on transcode.

    Hello all
Running Encore DVD. 2.0 Finally got my MOVs in the time line (MPEG 4 720X480, 29.97). There are about 16 of them (long story). When I transcode any of them, some less than a gig, the transcode finishes and then I get a "General Error" message that will not go away. Have to force quit out.
The program will only start again if I re-start the system.
It was installed as part of the "production Studio" and I have un/re-installed it by itself with no change. Thinking of un/re-installeing the whole Production studio.
    All input greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks
    Steve

The files are from DVDs I have previously created and new material. so a verity of applications. But the key here is they work perfectly with Encore DVD 1.5, and some of them were from DVD created with Encore DVD 1.0 they must have worked with with it as well.
    Thanks
