Encore crashing

I prepared an Encore burn with nine chapters. First couple of times it crashed, possibly because CS4 is creating some confilct with my external HD, and no it DOESNT DO IT IN ANY OTHER PROGRAM. This time, it just spent 90 minutes transcoding the data, and WHOOPS, i crashed right at the beginning of the burn. Then I relaunched, hoping it will sense its own ten folders with god know what files inside them, but no, it starts the transcoding process from scratch all over again.
Congrats, Adobe, real impressive. I burned 12 DVDs a couple of months ago on the same computer in IDVD, Guess that's where I'm headed back to, or a purchase of DVD studio PRo, cuz this thing is a mess. At least now I know the only good thing about CS4 production premium is after effects, pshop (if you havent ruined it) and Flash. My impressions of your company have collapsed since I bought this.

I just upgraded to the newest OS 10.5.6 I think. I had to to update the apple ilife apps which were not functioning in 10.5.1 or whatever 10.5 I had.
I'm gonna give this another go now that its updated.  But I'm running a dual 1.83 macintel MacMini - yes, guffaw, but it runs 24-track audio and every other multimedia app I've needed, so if it can't run, then bloatware is the problem. iDVD Is running without a problem. Encore's got more control, as far as I can tell. I know it'll get better. and AE is the shizznit...I really think Adobe should offer free upgrades to CS5 from CS4 considering how many glitches there are....especially on the mac. and the limited transitions in Premiere is a disgrace, considering what FCP offers....but then FCP doesnt come with AE or PS....
Ah - so you're on a Mac, and you just updated the Max OS X to it's latest incarnation then?
And suddenly Encore doesn't work right any longer?
Welcome to Mac OS Update hell - I have a lot of mac user friends who keep having this problem and not just with Encore.
Every time an OS revision comes out, it is probably a really bad plan to immediately install it on a working system as Apple have a history of breaking even their own applications with these updates (ask any Logic 8 user) so what chance do third party companies have here?
If I were you, I would immediately contact Adobe Support & make certain this OS revision is actually supported.
It might well not be.

When I try to export any video from premiere to the media encoder premiere crashes without any error message. The problem is not the project: I created several new projects and even if I only have one Graphic-File/Bars/h264-video in the timeline that I try to export: premiere crashes. When I export directly from premiere it works, but there is no chance to go via media encoder. The strange thing is that I can export from after effects to the media encoder without any problem...
Second Problem: Encore crashes also. Everytime I try to build a DVD => Encore crashes
    Does anybody have an idea?
Here is what I already tried:
Yesterday it worked fine today it crashes when I export from premiere via media encoder.
    1. Bars+Tone => export => crash
    2. Video Project with 2 short h264-files => export => crash
    3. I used Software only renderer => crash

  • CS3 Encore Crashing Repeatedly

Encore crashes repeatedly. Almost always when I hit the end action setting. When it crashes and is restarted, all the work I have done disappears, even though I am saving after each change. (!) The project is two hours long.
Running XP; 2.8 CPU; two gigs ram.
Could not find anything with Google search or forum search. I nuked some other freeware DVD programs and installed update 3.01. Have not tried to run Encore again.
    Aaaaack...gotta get this project done.

While I haven't read anything in this thread, I have just gone through 2-3 days of testing out theories and stuff.
About 6 months ago or so I upgraded from encore 1.5 to cs3 because I had a project of a dv avi file transcoded in 1.5 that no matter what I did would not burn a disc or create a folder or image. I gave up and upgraded to cs3 and the project burned right away!
fast forward to this weekend. The same situation came up AGAIN! Now, I had been having continual issues any time I use automatic transcoding for standard dvds, they would come out jittery. My editing system is a high pentium 4 3.2 ghz single core processor. I recently aquired a duo core processor laptop, and so this weekend tried an auto transcode in the duo core laptop with the same jittery results. I also tried disabling hyperthreading in my single core. My project kept erroring upon trying to build. I narrowed down the issues slowly to a point I knew it was the transcoding of the motion menus within encore. I re-enabled hyperthreading and it worked, it built properly!
So bottom line is, I KNOW that disabling hyperthreading is a bad thing for CS3 (and most likely transcoding with it off). And I KNOW for some unknown reason, automatic transcoding always produces jittery video regardless of processor. I theorize now that auto puts it into a progressive rather than an interlaced mode. And it forces you that way, there is no way to change anything unless you go to manual transcoding.
But through the process this weekend, I learned that Premiere Pro 1.5's media encoder can also make an mpeg 2 file from the timeline. It actually seemed to go much faster than in Encore as well. Also, Premiere's is good because you can add markers throughout the timeline, and it will embed the info necessary (GOP's?) to later add a chapter mark in the exact frame you intended upon importing the transcoded mpeg 2 file into encore.
HOWEVER, I found out the hard way that premiere 1.5's media encoder produces a wav file for the audio track, and a .m2v file extension for the video track. If you import that as is into Encore CS3 it will fail. If you rename the extension from m2v to m2p, it will then import without erroring. (I figured this out because I also tried another program to transcode the avi file and compared file name extensions).
Hope this helps someone out! By the way, I am stuck with Premiere 1.5 right now because I am still using Canopus DV Storm which stopped supporting Premiere after 1.5 and went on to solely using their own NLE software called Edius.

  • CS4 Premiere (and Encore) crash on opening with blue screen

I have been having a terrible time with CS4 Premiere Pro crashes over the last month or so.  Initially PP would just disappear from the screen as it was opening up, and if it didn't crash it was quite often after the Matrox RT.X2 logo came up after selecting the project to open.  I had less problems starting a new project than opening a previous one.  Sometimes it would open and crash during the work process without warning...forcing me to save after every change.  Then it got worse.
I looked to the Adobe CS4 bulletin on crashes and it was suggested to update drivers.  The first driver I looked at needed an update (Nvidia Quadro FX1500 256 MB) so I had their download service do the work and installing.  During the process it stopped with 'Nvidia display pannel extension cannot install due to a version mismatch.  Resetting the display drives may solve this problem' without any suggestions on how to do that.  I have 2 Dell 24" monitors slightly different from each other but worked great before all this.
From this point everything got even worse.  System Restore to the previous day did nothing.  Everytime I tried to open Premiere (or Encore) the whole computer crashed (blue screen) and restarted automatically.  I can no longer play any video without crashing -- not an AVI, MOV, WMV, etc.  Not even a finished DVD will play on the computer now.
I have the latest versions updates of Premiere Pro 4.2.1 as well as the Matrox RT.X2 tools.
While the Nvidia driver update situation made the situation worse, I was having problems with Premiere Pro CS4 way before this with 'instant' crashes and no warnings.  Strange that Photoshop CS4 works just fine as this has evolved into a video problem...and I need your help to get PP running again.
I'm not a techie so please reply in novice language.  When CS4 came out it took Matrox quite a while to get off 'beta' tools upgrade so I waited until it was off beta (April 2010) and had my computer hardware expert upgrade my computer with CS4 and the new Matrox install -- way too technical for me to do.  It worked great...until about a month ago when all this started.
I don't think the equipment I have now on my 2006 computer would work with CS5 - maybe you can look below and tell me.
For reference, here is my equipment:  XP Professional SP 3; AMD Athlon 64 x 2 dual core processor; 4800+  2.41 GHz, 3.25 GB RAM; Nvidia Quadro FX1500 256MB; 2 Dell monitors - 2407WFP and ST2410; Matrox RT.X2; 2TB WE Raid Edition SATA 16MB; Blu-Ray burner BDR-2058BK; Pioneer 111 Dual Layer DVD Rewrite Burner; Sound Blaster Audigy4 24 Bit; Built in FD controller 2 IDE on the main board.
    Brian

Thanks harm for your suggestions but I'm lost.  I am not a techie.  Went to your thread on building a new computer and it was way way over my head...so I'm back here asking for your suggestions as I couldn't even figure out how to copy/paste my equipment listed above and post this message there instead.
Took my box back to the vendor who put it together for me in 2006 for $6000 and he's going to try and get it up and running again for me.  I told him about your recommendation to lose the Matrox and he doesn't think it's the problem if I want fast rendering, etc.  He says he's used RT.X2 in a ton of systems he's put together and work just fine.  He's going to try getting my present computer running, first of all without any new additions and then make suggestions.  It ran beautifully under CS2, so much so I skipped CS3 and was very late adding on CS4 ... and that's when the problems started.  Perhaps CS4 was just too demanding for my 2006 equipment...which probably means CS5 is even more demanding.
    So....two questions:
    1. If I upgrade what I've got, where do I start?  Or is it worth upgrading or better to start brand new (budget problems no doubt)
    2. If I start brand new, what do I put in the new box?  I looked at your 3 different cost areas and the budget config is probably not what I need but warrior level too high.  Even the middle road you recommened looks a little low for what I want to do making BR disks, but you would know.
I assume some of the current equipment I've got could still be used, perhaps even the Matrox if that keeps costs down by not having to replace it with something else.  There is a new C drive for my programs and a new 2TB internal hard drive for files (which I mirror backup to an external 2TB drive).
Could you make some build recommendations that I could give to my vendor?  Many thanks.
    Brian
ps...how do you copy/paste on this forum?

  • Adobe Encore crashes after creating New Project

So something weird and unexpected happened so I'm telling the whole thing. I uninstalled Premiere Pro CC and installed Premiere Pro CS6 and the uninstalled it but unchecked Encore so that I can use Encore. I never used it before. So when I open Encore and create a New Project, it immediately crashes every time! Did anybody else encounter this problem? Please help!

I am not expert on installation issues with subscriptions. But my rule of thumb is still to uninstall, run the cleaner (same tool for CC and CS6) and reinstall.
Given the symptoms, I would treat it as an install/activation issue.

  • CS4: PPro and Encore crash upon startup!

I have been using CS4 for a long time with no issues, but yesterday PPro and Encore started crashing upon starting up.
The screen for either one will load up, but in PPro the timeline pane will be ghosted and the system will just freeze if I click on anything in the PPro window, including the menu. Encore does the exact same thing as far as crashing if I click anything.
I have not installed any new programs and I shut down as many background tasks as possible, as I have always done.
If I reboot the computer after a crash, I get a popup window telling me that PhotoshopServer.exe has caused an exception, blah blah. I have NEVER had that before this crashing started.
I uninstalled the entire CS4 suite and reinstalled it. The installer kept giving me errors about some components not being installed correctly, so I ran the Adobe Support Advisor and it sent me to a link that instructed me to remove the Color Profiles. I did this and the installer continued with no further issues. I then installed all patches up to 4.2.1 with no issues. BTW, I did shutdown all of my antivirus/antispyware/firerwall programs first and copied any missing color profiles back to the Windows directory, as instructed without overwriting any existing ones from the new install.
I started the new installation for the first time after a reboot and shutting down everything in the background... instant crashes AGAIN!
I'm running out iof ideas and I have no idea what went wrong after using this suite for so long with no issues.

It's probable that the Canon drivers are to blame rather than Adobe. The change in behavior may be due to another piece of software (driver, automatic update, etc) installed that now results in the Canon drivers loading into a different address space where whatever they were already wrong now has a negative consequence. Could also be related to the Canon drivers not dealing properly with ASLR (address space randomization feature in Windows) but that seems likely.

  • CS4 Adobe Media Encore crashes when exporting HD footage

    Hey guys,
    Here's my PC's specs:
    Windows Vista Home Premium
    Service Pack 1
    Processor: AMD Phenom 9550 Quad-Core Processor 2.20GHz
    Memory (Ram): 4.00GB
    System Type: 32-bit operating system
I've got adobe premiere pro CS4 and everything has been going well when working on Mini DV imported footage - exporting AVI's etc, it's all good. But now I've started shooting on a Sony EX3 so I've been importing that footage as MP4s. While not amazing, the editing has been going well, it just goes horribly wrong when I try to export any footage.
For example, I've got a 3 minute video which I've tried to export as an mp4, AVI, mov or H.264 - Adobe Encore will open up quickly enough and then I'll press "Start" and nothing will happen, it will sit and eventually crash.
    Any thoughts or suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • Encore crashes after editing menus in Photoshop

Running Encore CS3 3.0.1.008 on Vista. When I open a Menu and then choose Edit Menu in Photoshop, everything works great the FIRST time I edit the menu. I can save it, close in Photoshop, and come back to Encore.
If I try to Edit the menu a SECOND time, however, and then close and come back to Encore, Encore will crash.
Happens every time. My only recourse is to restart Encore, which then allows me one more chance to edit my menu.
It wouldn't be so bad if Encore didn't take 5+ minutes to open my project each time! Any help is much appreciated.

The process for "Edit in Photoshop" seems to be (observation and some reading, but no real hard facts - maybe Joe can correct me, if I'm wrong): Encore creates a TMP file with a link to the Menu, then Opens the TMP file in PS. Work is done and Save then writes over the TMP file, which is brought back into Encore to replace the original Menu file. Even with a bunch of Buttons, these are really quite small, compared to most of the image files that I usually work on. Should not require too much RAM for this operation.
I've only had one problem, which seemed to be specific to a Project that was created to use as a "template" and was always done as a Save_As in Encore with new Assets for each part of the Project. The Save, or Ctrl-s did not seem to get back to Encore after an Edit in Photoshop. This was only about 25% of the time, and only happened to me when I used that "template." Others posted of similar problems, but with new Projects, however I've not seen that. Also, with hundreds of "Edit in PS," that is the only glitch I've ever encountered. I also usually leave PS minimized, after the Save, as I often work on a half-dozen Menus in a session. Also, I often have PPro minimized too, so there is a bunch of Adobe stuff in the background.
I wonder if this is system dependent - memory issue maybe? For me, the "Edit in PS" has always worked perfectly (except as per above), and has done so if I shut down PS after the edit, or leave it open and bring focus back to Encore. I'm using 4GB (3GB switch) with about 8GB Win Virtual Mem on 2 physical disks with XP-Pro/SP-2.
Only other thing that I can think of is that the linking to the TMP and back might be causing the problem, but do not know the mechanics of this linking - XML?
Sorry that this is not much help for your problem.

  • Why does encore crash when I open a project made on enocre 1.5?

When I try to open Encore 1.5 projects into encore cs5 crashes. I'm running it on a intel xeon Mac Pro Has anybody got good answer? I would like to open old projects. The old projects were made in Encore 1.5 (windows, of course). I can import the menus and old avi files created in Pro 1.5 perfectly. Any answers?
Everything else in encore cs5 runs smoothly other than every once in a wile when I try to open Encore CS5 while running Pro CS5 while Pro CS5 is captureing HDV Encore hangs up and I have to do a force quit on encore. Then I have to shut down the computer and turn it back on to clear up the problem. I'm able to ge this to happen every time. So for future note to all on a Mac already have encore open then you can capture HDV in pro wile working in encore.

Remember, I was only guessing on that compatibility, but I've read of similar issues, without the X-platform aspect. Maybe Jeff, or another user, who's used many versions of En can reply.
Between you and me, I'd be more inclined to reconstruct (as you say, the PSD's can be reused), rather than try and sort out incompatibilities, and force things to work. For me, the Menus are the most labor-intensive part of an En Project. Where those exist, even if you need to Edit in Photoshop a bit, I'd start from scratch, just using the earlier Project as my guideline. I think that you might actually make less work for yourself in the end.
In my one Project to fail, I just started over (had most Assets just sitting already), and rebuilt. It worked the second time around, and I never bothered to find out what MY error was in the one that failed. Easier to redo, than troubleshoot.
Good luck, and let us know that everything works perfectly.

  • I have exported a one-hour choral concert edited in Premiere Pro CS6 to Encore, but Encore crashes?

I have completed editing a multicam shoot of a one-hour choral concert.  I have exported it to Encore, but Encore keeps crashing.  How to solve problem?

    Bob,
I recently responded to a similar question with the following answer, which applies to the specific question the OP asked, but you will understand the issues:
Imagine a very popular nightclub, that opens at 10 PM and long rows of people are waiting to come in.
If that nightclub only has a single door that can be used by single person only at one time, used for both entry and exit, you can imagine the waiting for people outside can be long or people inside waiting to exit. The first thing to do is make another door, one for entry only and one for exit only. That reduces the queues. The next thing to do is create multiple doors, let's say two on the North side, one for entry and one for exit, plus two doors on the South side, again one for entry and one for exit.
I imagine you get the drift. Well, each door is like a physical SATA connection, traffic can only go in one direction at a time and the people or data on either side of the door or SATA connection have to wait. That is a simple reason why more disks are better for the multitude of tasks that need to be performed during editing. The more doors or SATA connections, the less waiting there is and the more enjoyable it is.
The C: drive for OS & programs and pagefile is mostly used for reading and housekeeping, the staff only entrance.
Other drive(s) or doors are used for projects, media, media cache, previews and exports. The slower the drive, the narrower the door, the faster the disk, the wider the door. How to organize access to the drives depends on your editing style and material, just like the number of doors in the nightclub depend on the number of visitors and their visiting patterns.
If you do smallish projects with rather easy codecs and limited or no multicam editing, the system requirements are not very hard, but if you do large and complex projects with difficult codecs and lots of multicam editing, you need a much sturdier system. A small nightclub out in the country requires less doors than a huge nightclub in a big city that caters to movie stars, celebrities and other VIP's, especially if they use the latest and greatest in presentation technology (of course with corresponding prices).
I keep coming back to this nightclub, because I think the analogy works quite well to explain that there is not one answer that suites all needs. Basically it boils down to available budget and the circumstances you are in.  Now, with a 500 GB disk available, I assume your system is not the latest. I would keep it simple, forget a SSD for the moment as a boot disk, it may be overkill in your current system, and get as many 1+ TB Seagate 7200.14 or WD Caviar Blacks as your budget allows (up to 5). When you buy a new system in the future, you can take these disks along to the new system.

  • CS5/Encore crash dumping/Bluescreen occasionaly ???

    OS: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
App: Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and CS5
This may be more of a "CS5 Encore" issue, but basically
I am Building a BD from PPro CS5 from:
"File -> Adobe Dynamic Link -> Send To Encore" , ...
So, half-way through the build/encoding process (while creating a BD, or DVD image file) it crashes my system. ?
(I have successly done this, with the same work project in CS4 without these annoying crashes ?)
Anyone else run into this within CS5 ?
Here's the error output after it comes back up:

Any ideas as to how to analyse the above dump files ?
    Thanks.
    Rick.

Ya thanks, there is a way to start Encore and
"import" your work project from Adobe Premiere Pro CS5, without CS5 running.
But I honestly thought once in Encore, PPro would/or SHOULD just "shut-down" its memory/cpu usage,..., but I guess that is not the case as easily as it might be. -hence "dynamically linked -as in lets ALL buy MORE CPU's and Memory -yes, Bill, loves us.
I will try just Encore alone next time.

  • Another Encore Crash Thread

I recently bought Production Suite CS4, and have been very happy with everything except Encore. When I try and open it, it loads completely and then crashes. When I try again (within a few minutes) it usually loads fine, but when I try and import video as a timeline it crashes again. I've tried importing as an asset and then putting it in a timeline, but it crashes then too. The only way I can burn a video is to open Premiere and send a timeline to Encore from inside Premiere. Needless to say, this is very impractical and slow.
I read about people having similar issues, but they all had outdated video drivers; my drivers are up to date. encore is also updated to the latest version. I'll include my system specs below, but my computer is perfectly capable of running all the programs in CS4.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
