Encore CS 4 - Video Monitor and Preview

I recently tried out Encore CS 4 with a friend... pretty fast machine - Quad Core Mac Pro 2.66 with 8+ GB of RAM, and still the video plays back sluggish with both the "Preview" and "Monitor" options. Should more RAM and better video card improve this or is there an easier colution? Clean as a whistle with FCS 3. Thanks.

Look, you can build an HD DVD with an SD movie, just as you can build an SD DVD with an HD movie. This is not a bug, it is most likely user error. Apple will not be addressing it.
Just start over, and ensure you are building an SD DVD by bringing up the inspector for the disc (click on the background in the Graphical tab).
Make sure SD DVD is selected:
(If you do the same thing on your ill fated project, you'll see that HD DVD is selected)
Build your DVD and you'll be fine.

P.S. You will need to google HD DVD and Blu-Ray if you want to understand the difference between the formats. The reason that DVDSP included HD DVD was that its format was similar to SD DVD's. Blu-Ray is something else entirely.

Premier Pro Monitor and Preview Images Scrambled

Just installed CS4. Loaded clips into a test project. Upon playback the clips are scrambled in the preview window and monitor windows. Does anyone know the cause and/or how to fix this issue?

maybe post a screenshot of what it looks like ..the "scambled" stuff...
you may need to provide info about your computer specs, graphic card specs etc...
you might just have a project that doesnt match the footage specs...

Monitoring and previewing audio while capturing HDV

I have seen this discussion in the thread but there is no solution.
When capturing HDV via firewire, the audio is being previewed. This didn't used to happen. Is there a way to turn this off so that I can use other programs with sound like itunes? I can't find any way of doing this.

If you start dedicating CPU cycles and RAM to listening to music while capturing, you are asking for trouble. Dropped frames, glitches, messed up files (pick one or more)

Video Monitor and Graphics Card- Your using and happy with!

Wondering what the group is using for LCD monitor/Graphics card pairing for your MacPro. Interested on those above the 27" Apple Display

Okay, I'll bite. I have a Dell 30" 3007WFP LCD with an Acer 22" LCD on each side. The three monitors run off a ATI Radeon HD 5770. The Dell 30" runs off the bigger DVI port and the two Acers run off mini DVI ports.
I had to buy two ACTIVE mini DVI to DVI adapters to make them work. The regular adapters won't work with three monitors.
They all play happy together.

Preview on a Video Monitor?

Does Encore have the ability to feed the preview monitor or timeline into an external NTSC video monitor (not unlike a non-linear editing system would)? I have a Sony LMD-2010 LCD monitor that I use with my Avid system (output through Avid Mojo) and am wondering if the same can be done in Encore.

I am unable to preview on an external monitor in the trial version, although I could with 1.5. I'm firewire out to a Sony DSR-11 which does give preview in Premiere Pro 2 and After Effects 7.
In Edit>preferences>audio/video out, it is recognising the Sony, but reports "unknown" as status.
Can anyone please tell me what I'm missing. Thanks

Setting up displays and preview monitor with Quadro FX1700

Hi,
I am using a Quadro FX1700 graphics card with two DVI displays and a montitor with component connection to the PNY breakout box. I want to have a spanned desktop on my DVI displays and use my component monitor to preview video in Premiere.
Is this possible (it should be as the card is designed for use with premiere) and how do you d set it up? The nVidia control panel only seems to allow two displays at one time..!!

Solutions for previewing HDV via video monitors ?

I have recently been given the task of setting up a video editing suite combining:
FCP6
HVR-1500 decks
Panasonic BT-LH1700WE LCD video monitors
FX7E HDV cameras
I've read that it is not possible to preview HDV via firewire and this seems to be the case thus rendering the Video preview monitors useless via the decks at least.
My question is what would we need to get in order to get a live broadcast preview to the monitors ?

How to let Final Cut "ignore" the other monitor" and have preview on the largest monitor?
I have a setup with a MB Pro and an external Eizo 27" calibrated screen.
Now I am using the 27" as the main screen with Final Cut with its panes and windows on it and the MBPro as preview (Command F12). I would like to see the preview on the large 27" when I hit Command F12 and not on the laptop sometimes. Any way to do this?
When I do the "mirror" screen setup the resolution drops down on the Eizo 27" so that does not seem to be a good option.

How do I get my Mac Pro to see the second monitor through a video splitter and/or switcher?

In a recording studio we have a Mac Pro with two video display monitors in the control room and we want to be able to show the content of the second monitor to the person in the recording room on a big display monitor there. However, when we interpose a switcher or splitter between the computer and the second monitor so that we can (with a switcher) switch the second monitor signal from the control room monitor to the record room monitor or (with a splitter) split the signal to go to both monitors, we have no luck. On startup the computer does not see the monitor through the switcher, so it doesn't recognize its existence. If we start the computer up without the switcher in the signal chain, it sees the second monitor just fine, and (weirdly enough) we can then change the cabling to interpose the switch, which then works to switch back and forth between second monitors (control room and record room), but that cable swapping's a royal PITA. We want a simple solution that will allow us to start up the computer, see the second monitor in the control room, then choose to show it to the person in the record room with a simple flip of the switch (or even better, split the signal so it's available both places). We have a full ProTools HD Accel 3 system installed, so there's no room to install a second video card. Thanks.

I did say when you want to connect three monitors to 5x70's there are some rules to adhere to. These are covered in the first two apple docs mentioned above, or by title:

The general gist of these rules is that to drive three monitor son a 5x70 you need two active adapters. That is why one of your monitors was disabled when you tried to add a third.
Here's a good explanation of what's going in here and why you need two active adapters on these cards:

If you use DVI monitors and any of them have resolutions less than 1920 x 1200 then you can use single link active adapters. The "AMD Eyefinity Validated Dongles" chart shows some active (and passive) adapters that are acceptable. For example of a single link DVI active adapter is the Accell B087B-006B. An example of a dual link DVI active adapter would be the one from monoprice.com if you need to connect monitors with a resolution greater than 1920 x 1200.
I'm doubtful that SwitchResX would be able to convince the computer that there were only two monitors connected and direct the second monitor signal to the correct place, but it certainly seems worth a try, so thanks for the idea! Any other ideas are still welcome in the meantime.
I'm not doubtful. It is a very powerful utility for dealing with all aspects of multiple monitor configurations (they call them "Display Sets") complete with forcing EDID information if necessary. The different configurations can be controlled with a (contextual) menu and/or hot key.
SwitchResX is academic at this point if you want to have all three monitors connected. You would need to get that working first. Then use SwitchResX to vary the configuration combinations. So if you go this route the "name of the game" is figure out the active adapters you need.
I only described in general terms above about the adapters since you never said exactly what kind of connections these monitors require (single link DVI, dual link DVI, hdmi, mini-displayport, vga).

HT3964 For the past several months my MacBook Pro has been shutting down. I get horrible video with marks and striations acress the laptop screen and an additional monitor and the weird video problems until the multilingual notice comes up saying to shut

I used two monitors, and several months ago the MacBook Pro started crashing frequently. It seems like it might be overheating. Sometimes the disks seems to race. I leave the computer on most of the time and it sleeps when I am away, but when I come back in the morning it will have colored striations across both screens, and soon the multilingual announcement comes up that I have to press and hold down the power key.
Also, when using a progam like Skype video, the video goes insane frequently, with Skype windows freezing, video freezing, Skype window cutting in half, and eventually the computer crashing.
It seems to be a video problem.
What do I do?

I would take some screen shots of the anomalies and take the MBP to an Apple store genius bar. I you cannot reproduce the display problems, the screen shots will at least give them a start point for an analysis.

Problems connecting 1 monitor and 1 TV to 2gb DDR3 AMD Radeon 7570 video card.

I recently purchased an Hp h8-1360t computer with a 2gb DDR3 AMD Radeon 7570 video card and an Hp 2711 LED monitor. I am having problems connecting both the monitor (dvi) and a 50" Sony LCD TV (hdmi) with a 50' hdmi cable. When starting the computer, once the initial Win 7 boot up is finished, the monitor screen goes blank, except for the mouse pointer. When I turn on the tv and select the correct input source a normal Win 7 screen with icons appears on the tv. Only the wallpaper picture displays on the monitor and no icons. If play a dvd movie it will only show up on the tv with the sound coming from the speakers attached to the computer.
I would like to retain control of the computer using the monitor. I tried to set the monitor up as the primary display source using the monitor configuration menu,but it won't allow me to save the dvi connection as the primary display source. The documentation that came with the computer and what I was able to find on the Hp site is lacking....to say the least.
Any assistance with this problem will be greatly appreciated.

First I would disconnect the TV HDMI cable from the computer. That should return the PC screen to normal. May have to reboot to get normal. Then reconnect the TV HDMI and go into the screen setup routine, paying attention to which screen is supposed to display what information.

Video Resolution and monitor setup

OK, I need a little help here because I can not get what I want. I am running a gaming system with MSI Plat. K9A2, with 8G gskil ram @1066, timings 5-5-5-15, 2.1v, two saphire 4870 1g cards, crossfireX via dual HDMI. CCC 9.7 for 64 bit on 64 bit Vista Prem. The monitors are ACER H233H with a max resolution of 1920x1080. I am basically only using widows video config. and CCC. I am set to extend my desk top. If i try to run 1920x1080 it crops around the image by abour 3/4 of an inch. The same for both monitors. I can run both at 1650x1080, full screen without a problem. color is 32bit. 59-60 hz is the refresh rate. I have tried to force the config. for full screen 1920x1080, but still get the cropping or the 1920x1080 monitor pushes the windows tool bar off the screen along with any icons that are left side of the primary monitor. All drivers are up to date at this time. I have tried ccc with full enable gpu scaling, no change. I have tried the setup with maintaining aspect ratio, scaling image to full (where it is set now) and using centered timings, no change. I can not change the scaling options slide bar or check the box, the slider is all the way up to over scan (which may be the problem), but i can not change it. The OSD H-position and V-position for each on monitor control is 83 and 3 respectively. The screens are set at full, If i set them at aspect I get cropping of about 1 inch on the right and left side of each monitor. DDC is on, and ACM is off. Under the regular settings for color management I can no change the V.position and H.position, they are set to 0. Any thoughts? I am well powered and well cooled, so that is not a problem. Thanks guys. There's no issue with playing the video when launching it direct in Windows Media Player. Its just when launched from the DirectShow API. We've now got a 3rd party looking at that API and have a temporary fix.
So for future reference there are no specific problems with the rendering, codecs or resolutions, but there may be an issue with applications that launch high res media on to a 2nd monitor with the DirectShow API.

What is the port for on the left of the w500 between the eathernet and video monitor connection?

There is a port on the left side of the w500 that is next to the video monitor connector. It looks like an HDMI port but is square on one side. So I do not think it is hdmi. What is that port called and what is it for?
I want to hook up the computer to a tv for the kids to watch netflix.

It's a DisplayPort (that's its name) It's like an HDMI port but it's different
All you need to plug your tv is a cable DisplayPort to HDMI and it's all good. You normally won't have sound because the port is for video only. You will need to plug a cable from your audio out to your tv.

Is it possible to output to div monitor and s-video at the same time?

I'm editing video and want to see the broadcast results on the fly (ie monitor and tv side by side, same image onscreen). Is it possible to output to div monitor and s-video at the same time? Maybe thru a splitter cable. I'm concerned about resolution issues.

This is not possible with a mini.
