Is there a simple way to reset the workspace on a Macbook Pro? For the life of me I cannot seem to find a solution?

I've recently purchased a Retina MacBook Pro and the Adobe CS6 (Design/Web Premium) I've updated all the Adobe CS6 programs as they all had pixelated workspaces. After the update, InDesign CS6 (version 8.0.2) is still pixelated... Is there a reason why the other programs (Illustrator and Photoshop) fixed the pixelation problem but not InDesign?

Encore cs6 crashes on my macbook pro when trying to use timeline

I have recently downloaded encore for my macbook pro and has been working fine apart from everytime I try to use timeline, either way I try to open it, it crashes. It also crashes when I try to preview the DVD.
Is this the software or my mac? All my other adobe apps work fine and never crash.

What specific OS and Encore versions? Since you say "latest OS updates," I assume Mavericks, and is this the relatively new 10.9.1 version?
Where in the startup does it crash? Is there an error message?
Mavericks causes a variety of issues, and we don't have enough data to really pin them down. At least with the original Mavericks, some users appeared to get CS6 to run with some serious but workable problems.
Make sure you have handled any permissions issues.

I am not asking about mirroring, but as a second screen.
Apple tv communties said the Apple tv cannot do this, but maybe another type device can?

My thunderbolt port stopped working on my late 2011 MacBook Pro rendering my external monitor useless--or so I thought.
Mac Genius suggested using the Apple TV via AirPlay Display as a $100 solution. Took me all of 6 minutes to figure this out as there are no directions in the Apple TV box supporting this. But, it does work and I am now back in business.
PS. Don't set up with bluetooth--seems logical but you want to use AirPlay Display under Settings > Displays.
Also, I originally thought my external monitor stopped working because I upgraded the OS. This time, it was definitely a hardware issue and not software. It also fixed a known sound issue my monitor had with Macs. First time in my 15 years I've ever had a ViewSonic have issues with an Apple product, too. Thanfully, it is now fixed.

How to play Abode Encore CS6 on Macbook Pro OSXLion 10.7.5

When I try to open Adobe Encore I get a pop up box saying that "Power PC Applications are no longer supported"? Does anyone know how to enable this MacBook Pro 2011 running OSX Lion 10.7.5 to play Encore? I checked and it seems that enabling the 64 bit kernel might be the issue? I dont know how to turn this on though? Thanks

The version of Adobe Encore that you have IS a "PowerPC" application which will only run on older Motorola processors or Snow Leopard (under emulation named "Rosetta"). PowerPC apps are not compatible with Lion (10.7.5 - which your profile indicates that you're running).
The last version that shipped was with CS6 (which you may be able to find online: Adobe has stopped selling 'boxes' with DVD installations). It is no longer part of the Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) suite.

Sense Code Error 31000 while burning DL DVD Encore CS5 Macbook Pro

While attempting to burn a Dual Layer DVD on my Macbook Pro I got this error: "Sense Code 31000" just before it started to burn.
I changed the burn speed, verified my laptop burns DVD+R DL discs. Any help is much appreciated. Must burn a master to duplicated 100 dvds by Friday. Thanks!

Sense Code errors are hardware or blank media related.
Try to burn with other blank disc, if it does not work then the problem may be because of burner.

How do I set-up my TV as a dual monitor for my MacBook Pro?

I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro running (OS X 10.8.2) Mountain Lion, and recently I rearranged my home workspace so that I can view my TV from my desk while I work.
I would like to set-up my TV as a dual monitor for my MacBook Pro, so I can stream videos on my TV screen and have the whole screen to do work on my MacBook Pro at the same time.
Is this possible? I've seen people use TVs as a mirror display (where it works as their main and only monitor), but never as a fully operational dual display.
As an example, I would like to have my MacBook screen showing a desktop with the whole screen devoted to Photoshop, while I have another desktop running on my TV, which shows an internet browser or other application.
If this is possible, what cords/hardware would I need, and what are the settings that will enable me to do this?
- My TV is a modern flatscreen LCD, and it has two HDMI ports in the back.
- It's about 9-10 feet from my desk.

You'll need a mini displayport to HDMI adaptor:

and an HDMI cable long enough to reach your TV
(look on Amazon or Monoprice for the best price on any of those parts)
In your display options, you will just choose extended desktop vs mirrored display.

i have already seen this discussion (https://discussions.apple.com/message/24018625#24018625) started by campitor and allegedly solved by arthur but only for campitor's concrete case and already closed. Therefore I have made the same checkup with Etrecheck (see below). It would be really great to solve this problem because I need my mac for work and I am getting really desperate: it's just too slow for effective working. I am really desperate and really thankful for any kind of hint or help that could bring back my machine to normal workable speed.

Mid-2010 Macbook Pro: To Upgrade or Update?

Hey Folks,
I know that this is a topic that has been covered in some detail, but I was hoping to get some feedback from people in the know regarding my specific circumstances and the most reasonable course of action. So, to begin, I have a mid-2010, 15 inch MacBook Pro with a 2.66 Ghz Intel Core i7, 4 GB RAM (1067 MHz DDR3) and an NVIDA GeForce GT 330M 512 MB Graphics Card. This was an amazing computer when I bought it and it continues to work quite well for must of my needs. However, recently, I have been using Pro Tools 11 Music Production software, as well as the Music Composing application MuseScore and I have found that I am not able to get the level of real-time processing speed that I see in some other small home recording setups I have encountered. As a result, I have begun to explore the idea of updating my hardware to a new Mac – perhaps a desktop model but I'm not necessarily married to that idea, as my sense of the benefits is somewhat vague, having to do with a "dedicated workspace" and that kind of thing.
While considering my options, I spoke with a phone rep at Apple who, after reviewing my needs and options, recommended that, rather than buying a whole new computer, I upgrade from my current 4 GB of RAM to either 8 or 16 GB (I know 16 is really a lot, but running music editing software is really an incredible RAM suck, believe me). I want to avoid the whirring and crashes that are somewhat unavoidable with my current setup. Moreover, the rep also introduced the idea of upgrading my processor to a Quadcore and looking into graphics cards if I felt that I wanted to move up to something newer.
After talking to the rep, I generally feel that just upgrading my different hardware elements is probably the way to go for me as I would save a lot of money, but I still feel somewhat reticent seeing as this computer is already close to five years old and it seems that spending a lot of money on something that will soon be obsolete seems foolish. On the other hand, having played with lots of new Macbook Pros and Mac desktops, I really haven't seen any aesthetic changes or new features that really scream out to me to buy the newest model as mine does not seem substantially dated in any real way - in fact, I generally find it a little better than most of the floor models I have played with in the Apple store. The only thing that I even remotely notice is dated is that my MacBook is one generation older than when "Airplay" was implemented in apple TV, so I cannot pair remotely, but that doesn't make a huge difference to me.
I should also mention for context that I did have a Hard Drive crash about 8 months ago at which time I upgraded from a 500 GB to a 1 TB drive, so I have already put some money into the computer. I don't play any video games, so that sort of thing isn't really a consideration, nor is social media a big thing for me, outside of Spotify which I use more or less constantly. Also, though it maybe irrelevant, I will be moving from California to Durham, UK in the summer to begin graduate school, so if there is anything to consider in terms of international functionality, please let me know.
Basically, I just want to know whether anyone sees a clear choice between the two scenarios I have presented: Should I "Supe-Up" my current MacBook with more RAM, and/or a QuadCore processor, or if I should buy a new computer altogether. If anyone has suggestions for other ideas to consider, I would be appreciative of any advice you can offer.

I have a MacBook Pro 15 inch early 2011.
The new features available in OS X Yosemite like Continuity, Handoff,etc are not supported in this model.
I did upgrade RAM to avoid any possible slowdown.
I found replacing the HD with SSD is too expensive for a 4 years old model.
Replacing the CPU/GPU is not for amateurs.
If you think that rebuilding a Mac part by part is a viable option, please go ahead and rebuild it.

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to gather information about the state of your computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it on this page. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them.
Here's a summary of what you need to do: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait about a minute. Then paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply.
6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in your browser, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign ($) or a percent sign (%). If you get the percent sign, enter
exec sh
and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for your password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator rights.
The test may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. There wiil be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress until it's done. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report your results. No harm will be done.
8. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." That's because the forum software falsely identifies something in the post as a violation of the terms of use. If that happens, please post the results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
