Encore CS3 Closes after Splash Screen

Question

I have Adobe CS3 Production Premium.  Recently, When I launch adobe encore, the splash screen shows, it says "Initializing Media Layer", and then just closes.  I've done some searching but haven't found an answer yet.  I tried desiabling all of my optical drives in device manager, I tried opening Bridge first and then encore, but neither of those worked.  Any suggestions?

I have found this is more likely to occur with certain VST Audio Plugins than almost anything else.
The Media Layer insists on loading the entire kitchen sink of VST plugins for some inexplicable reason best known to itself.
This will often cause a crash.
All you need to do is keep launching until it stops happening when this is the reason for the crash (and you can always tell by watching what is being initialised when the Media Layer is loading. VST plugins are clearly being listed as such) as every time it happens the offending plugin gets "bound" and will not be reloaded. The downside here is that you may well get the same issue when transcoding through the Adobe Media Encoder.
If this does occur, with CS4 a good workaround is to launch the standalone version repeatedly until crashing ceases, then all should be well.
