Encore  CS3- Domain User  DVD Device Permissions Problems

Encore is unable to see DVD Device and the Adobe utility only corrects for Local computer accounts and not domain accounts. The network administrator must setup an additional account (Local)to the computer that all Premier/Encore user must now log off there domain account and then login to local account so that they are able to burn there project to DVD. I was told by adobe support that they cant help because it works via a local account and that the issue is a domain issue and not an issue with there software. Is there a reg. hack that one could use to correct the problem with Premier/Encore to use windows xp security to allow the application the same permissions that windows give the Domain local user.I was also told by Adobe support that maybe if I had gold support they would maybe have a tech group who could handle network related issues with there software but he was not sure. This would be great to get resolved after buying a site license of the Master collection for a school
Thank You
Allan Shaw

Every message concerning networks is that Encore (and Premiere) are not designed to run on a network... so they mostly do not
I've also read that a non-Administrator user account is usually not going to work well... if at all
The simple fact is (from what I've read in these forums) that Encore and Premiere are written for ONE user on ONE computer... and anything else may work by accident, but not by design

  • Encore CS3: Not closing DVD's

I had no issues with Encore 1 or 2, but ever since I've installed Encore CS3, my DVD's are still "open". This is confirmed by using Roxio 9's disc properties.
The reason this is important is, my DVD dubber will not dub open discs. I need them closed.
Is this a bug? Again, when I burned DVD's with Encore 2, they were fine. It wasn't until I upgraded to CS3 (just two days ago) when the 'open disc' issues started.

Most applications will dub open DVD's.
The problem I ran into is, I have a DVD duplicating tower and it just won't accept open DVD's. We've contacted the manufacturer and that's just the way the machine and drives work. The DVD's need to be closed.
Again, this is the only system that I've ever run into a problem (regarding open DVD's).
That's probably why Adobe isn't getting many complaints. Most people are using Nero or Roxio, which isn't giving them any issues when dubbing. Since my company is using a specialized dubbing system (which the average user wouldn't own), I seem to be one of the few who are noticing this issue.
and Minu, I'm confused about you saying that DVD-R's are being closed, because that's not the case with me and the Adobe tech even confirmed that Encore CS3 will not close DVD-R's.
p.s. I see jbowden posted while I was typing this. Yes, this is only an issue with certain dubbing systems that require closed DVD's.

  • Encore CS3 subtitle from DVD to avi

I have two problems in my subtitle process.
    1) I have made subtitles manually in a 5 minute movie, within the safe margins of the screen. None are more than one(1) line long. I have the movie to play at once (no menu) and just a single subtitles track. It works fine when I preview it in encore (cs3), however, when I build a DVD folder and play it, there are no subtitles and I cannot enable them.
I am quite new with encore, so perhaps I am missing something vital (apart from not being experienced ;)). What should I do?
    2) I need my subtitles to work if I convert the DVD files to another format. That is, I will be needing it for a youtube video, with subtitles or something similar. Is there any method to prefer above others - and what should I be aware of, when I convert.
Will subtitles from a correct DVD folder, be integrated in a conversion?
    Thanks in advance,
    - M.

I'm having the same problem that Marcus had, is there a solution please?

    Hello,
Did you means that other domain user account (Other-Domain\user3) can access reports on the Report Manager without grant any permission? As per my understanding, it is not possible. SQL Server Reporting Services uses Windows Authentication
defaultly to determine who can perform operations and access items on a report server.
Based on your description, you grant the local Administrators group and two domain users with system-level role: System Administrator.  System-level role assignments grant access to global tasks and permissions that apply to a report
server site, That's may cause the user can access and manage all contents on the Report Manager.
If you want to set permissions for accessing conntents on Report Manager, you can just specify itme-level role assignments. For example, if you grant user with Browser role on a report, the user can view report and report properties, but cannot edit
    report properties.

  • Migrated users incorrectly, now permissions problems

    Hi all!
I purchased a 2011 MBP this year, to replace my 2008 MBP. I attempted to use Migration Assistant, but didn't transfer correctly and now I'm having permissions related problems. I'm assuming they are related, as that is how it sounds from posts I've read in these forums.
When I used migration assistant, I had already created the same user name on the new MBP. Now that I've read many posts in this forum, I realize I should never have created a user on the new MBP, prior to using migration assistant. Anyway, having trouble with duplicate account names, I believe I reformatted the drive and used the drag and drop method from the old MBP to the new (I can't honestly remember, but I'm pretty sure that's the method I chose). I still created the same user name on both, so perhaps that wasn't a great idea.
For the most part I didn't notice any problems, until after I purchased and installed MS Office 2011. I would open any Office app and everytime it would require me to go through all opening screens as if it was the first time opening Office, even though it had the serial number and all personal information already. I went through MS tech support and fortunately spoke with a very knowledgeable mac user and we traced it down to a permissions problem. He suggested I delete the user name and use the TestName we had created (which had no problems) At the time, I was in the middle of a large video project and I didn't want to do anything that may cause potential problems with it. I finished the project and began another one immediately. In the new project, I had problems with Premiere Pro not recognizing audio in some, not all, clips. I spent days with Adobe tech support and even sent them a sample file. Fast forward to yesterday; it was once again traced to permissions problems. The clip worked under the root user account we (Adobe tech support and I) created.
So, my question is what is the best way to proceed? It seems apparent that I have to delete a user or figure out how to repair all permissions at once, since I have found files and repaired a few with the one-at-a-time method. Obviously this is time consuming and I don't have that kind of time.
Should I delete the username and move things to a new username? If so, what are the best steps to prevent any permissions problems? Or is there a way to repair all file permissions through a command in the terminal?
I can't honestly say I never had any permission problems with the 2008 MBP before, so if by chance there were permisions problems, or any other user related problems, would they have been introduced to this new MBP?
Thank you in advance for the help! :-)

About make a copy of /Users/paisleye into /Users/paislWhy am I doing that? Just for backup? Through the remainder of your post, it sounded as if I would only be accessing /Users/paisleye. Did I mis-read something?
Exactly -- just for backup.  You may notice I'm a little paranoid -- if you have a Time Machine backup, and a SuperDuper/CarbonCopyCloner bootable clone on an external disk, AND a copy in /Users/paisl -- then you've got 3 backups before you start.  :-)  And when you are done you will have the original of /Users/paisleye in /Users/paisl and the original of /Users/test will still be in /Users/test.
What should happen with the ordering is this:
-- if a file is in /Users/test but not in /Users/paisleye, then it will copy over into /Users/paisleye with it's current ownership and permissions, which seem to be right.
-- if a file is in /Users/paisleye but not in /Users/test, then the copy isn't going to fix anything, but it isn't going to hurt anything more, either.  The step where you set ownership of everything in /Users/paisleye to test:staff might just fix all of those problems.
-- if a file is in /Users/paisleye AND /Users/test, then if the ownership/permissions are right on one and wrong on the other it's probably /Users/test that's good.  The copy (the long complicated tar command) will copy the /Users/test version and it's permissions/ownership overtop the /Users/paisleye version.  If that's not right, there is a backup in /Users/paisl, and on the TimeMachine, and on the clone.
What's likely is that you are going to have the occasional weird thing happen with some stray file for months/years.  You can always go back and use chown and/or chmod on an individual file to fix it.  (The -R is the "recursive" flag to do a directory and everything underneath.  Leave it out, and it just does one file at a time.)
I actually ended up with three different accounts on my machine that belong to "me" and had to do this.  (I bought the machine with free Parallels installed, and MacMall created an account called "user" to install it and I had to clean that up when I got it.)  This is not a terrible thing.  One thing that I would recommend if you get it all done and cleaned up and you are happy -- keep the test account, and keep it as an Administrator; then turn off Administrator on the paisleye account.  Then every time you need to do something Administrator, just give the test username/password.  Every so often you will get software that will refuse to install from a non-priv'd account (looking at you adobe!) so just turn on Fast User Switching and log into the test account and install from there.  It just a lot safer if you are not logged in all of the time with privs...
And this unix stuff isn't hard to get the hang of.  If you half remember something, you can google it and find oodles of excellent documentation.

    Hi,
    According to the
repadmin results, there isn’t any replication issue.
I was wondering how long did the issue last until reboots of DCs?
If the period is short, then this behavior is normal, because AD replication takes time, this issue could occur before AD replication has completed.
Another possible cause is related to Kerberos authentication and authorization mechanism.
During a logon session, once a user has been authenticated successfully, it gets an
access token containing its SID and group membership and privileges.
The user's access token is subsequently inherited by any application process that the user starts during the logon session.
If we change user’s group membership and privileges
after the access token has been issued, the changes won’t be updated until this user logs off and logs on again.

  • Encore CS3 First Play and End Action problems

I have one menu, one timeline. I'm trying to have the DVD start with the menu for about 2 minutes, the length of the audio asset linked to, then start the first chapter of the timeline. No overrides used in the project.
First Play of the disc: set to the default menu.
End action of the menu: set to first chapter of timeline.
Menu-motion: Audio linked to an audio asset, duration about 2 minutes.
In Encore DVD 2.0 this was trivial and worked. Not in CS3!
Most of the time it loops the menu indefinitely. Sometimes it will loop twice, then start the chapter.
Preview from the menu works. Preview from the disc doesn't, nor the final DVD burn. I've seen this was discussed here before, I just can't find the topic.
    Any fixes?
    Thanks

    Johnathan,
Tell us more about your Assets on this Play First Timeline. What are the files, format, Duration, etc.? Is this file muxed, or elemental streams? The greater the detail, the better.
I have not seen the behavior that you observe, hence my questions.

  • User groups and permissions problem

    Hello everyone,
I've been running Arch Linux for about a month now and I have noticed a few things related to permissions associated with user groups that annoy me. My user is part of the storage, wheel and network groups, amongst others. I can see this when I run the `groups` command. From what I could read on the Wiki, the storage group should allow me to mount/umount drives such as my USB key and my iPod when they are plugged in and access the files from my user account without using sudo. The network group should let me manage the network connection via ifconfig, iwconfig, etc. once again without using sudo.
However, when I run iwconfig as my normal user, I get incomplete and inaccurate information. I get about 2 lines telling me essentially that I am not associated with any Access Point, which I clearly am. When I run it with sudo, I get the full information, including my Access Point's ESSID. iwconfig does not get the same data when run with and without sudo. Same goes with ifconfig. Also, I can not run dhcpcd or wpa_supplicant at all as a normal user.
I get a similar problem with the storage group. I can not mount or umount drives without sudo and I can not write to mounted drives that I've mounted with sudo. This is particularly annoying when I try to manage my iPod.
Does anyone have a clue what could be causing this?
    Thanks a lot

I have searched Google and the Arch Wiki, have tried a lot of the suggestions from the forums, such as the 'how I beat policykit and hal' forum post.  Nothing seems to let me mount my drives.  I can see them in Nautilus, I click them but they don't mount.  I can do it as root.  It's really frustrating because I can't figure it out.  I haven't filed a bug report because I thought it was a problem that I was having.
I haven't tried the iwconfig or network yet.
This is pretty much the only thing holding me back from everything working.

  • Encore CS3/4/5  DVD mit mehreren Startmenüs erstellen

    Hallo Community :-)

    "weiter" umbenennen in "zurück".
Im Flußdiagramm dann die Buttons mit den entspr. Filmen verknüpfen,
die Weiter- und Zurück-Buttons mit den entspr. Menüs verknüpfen.

  • Anywhere access domain users and rights

    Hello,
I am working with anywhere access on server 2012 R2, and I am wondering if it has the ability to use the existing domain user rights to existing file share's and folders instead of using its own system.
For example I added a new share and pointed it to an existing folder thinking it would be able to see all of the files in it.  That did work, but then it also gave all users in my domain rights to that folder.  So it is not using the existing domain
user rights to the folder that was already existing.  Is this a bug or a feature?
Also I cannot add a folder on our storage cluster.  The cluster servers and the clustered server doesn't show up in the list.
It could be that this is the wrong product for what I am trying to do, but it seems like it has all of the features that I want.
    Dan.

    Hi Dan,
What is the shared folder’s NTFS permissions? If the domain users group have permissions to access the shared folder, all users in domain can access the folder.
For more detailed information, please refer to the article below:

For storage cluster, I suggest you ask for help from cluster forums to get more better and accurate answer to the question.

  • Encore CS3 - Out of Memory & C++ Runtime Error

I'm running Encore CS3 and I encounter several problems with a recent project that have made Encore practically useless.
When I try to preview the project, play a timeline or preview a menu I get this error. Out of Memory - Please Save and exit immediately to avoid data loss. I also get the c++ runtime error sometimes while trying the same actions.
I've also had Encore hang while trying to import .m2v files, although this appears to happen randomly. Clearing the media cache seams to fix it, sometimes.
All video was compressed with Cinemacraft Encoder 2.70.02.12 and all audio was normalized with Adobe Audition CS3.
I've read through the forms and tried deleting the media cache in the registry and re-installed Encore once. Nothing appears to work, I'm about ready to ditch Encore and go with another authoring program.
    Please help.
    My Specs
    Windows XP X64 (Current Updates)
    Dual Opteron 275
    Tyan Thunder K8SE
    4 GB ECC/Reg RAM (Corsair DDR400)
1x 74 GB Raptor for OS
    1x 74 GB Raptor for Cache/Temp
    2x 500 GB For project/storage
    Quadro FX 3400
    Sound Blaster Audigy
    Pioneer 112D
    Sony CRX320E

Why would XP64 be the problem if its worked fine for over 30 projects?
I also tried loading the project on one of our 32bit XP workstations with Encore CS3 and had all the same problems.
At this point the problem appears to be a bug with Encore, because after starting over from scratch I got the project to work fine.
It also appears that if you copy/paste anything it will corrupt your project somehow.
So, the bottom line its this, XP64 is not the problem.

  • Newbie Question-Encore CS3

I just recently purchased Adobe Encore CS3
    and a DVD duplicator.
    I have a question,
When I am ready to build my DVD project.
I go to BUILD Menu and
at the bottom they have this
    COPY PROTECTION
CGMS if I select-NO COPIES ARE ALLOWED
does this mean I can not use my
    duplicator, will it prevent it
    from copying my master copy?
What I am trying to do is just burn one
Master DVD and put this DVD at my duplicator
so then it will just copy and burn 5-8 disc at a
    time.
    Just wondering, I hope someone
can tell me or educate me.
Thank you ...have a great day

    Question-Encore CS3
I would like to know why when I made the DVD for a project that is perfect in the computer, I can not see the button function when I use the DVD in a normal DVD player for television.
The control DVD player is function only with number but not with arrow!!! I don't see the sign of the menu position.
Infact if I put the DVD in the DVD drive of the computer I see the film perfectly, but if I put the same DVD created in a normal DVD player, I don't see the button animated. I can change position just with pressing the number of the poistion but not with the arrows !!
Can you tell me what I have to do ???
    Thank you for the answer.

  • DVD pauses right before credits Encore CS3

    Hello,
I am making a DVD and have burned a copy, everything is fine except when the video goes into the credits the video pauses for a second or so.
Here are my steps in creating the DVD.
    1. Edited movie in Premiere
    2. In Premiere I went to Title>New Title>Default Still and on the 'Roll/Crawl Options' I added a Roll
    3. Typed in my text and closed it.
    4. I Put the Credits video clip in the timeline and added a 'Cross Disolve' transition
    5. I Went to File>Export>Export to Encore   I Exported the movie with this summary  -
         NTSC, 720x480, 29.97 non-drop frame [fps], Progressive, Quality 5.0
         48 kHz, 16 bit, PCM
VBR, 2 Pass, Min 1.50, Target 4.00, Max 7.00 [Mbps]
    6. In Encore I added a basic menu
    7. I then Burned the DVD
Again my problem is that halfway into the cross disolve leading into the credits it pauses for ~1sec.  I think it may be the way Encore burns the disc because this does not happen in the preview window of Encore.
    I am using . . .
    Windows XP Profesional
    Premiere CS3
    Encore CS3
    All help is appreciated,
    Nicholas

I have never heard of DiscMaker brand. Could be great, or maybe not. Many companies buy the cheapest discs that day, and then rebrand them, like Memorex, so you never know what you are getting.
An ISO is an Image of the disc, and is created, when you choose Burn to Image. It is similar to doing a Burn to Folder, but is different. The great freeware, ImgBurn can burn either the ISO, or the VIDEO_TS created with Burn to Folder. I like that second option a bit better, only because the VIDEO_TS folder will play in most DVD software players, like MediaPlayer Classic HC (freeware). ImgBurn will also tell you what the mfgr. of those discs is.
I edit most Projects, a bit differently, than many others. Each segment of my Project is in a separate Sequence in PrPro. Each starts with a tiny bit of Black Video, and then fades into the footage with a Dip-to-Black (could use a Cross-Dissolve here too). Each ends with a tiny bit of Black Video, with the same Transition. My Credits would be on their own Sequence, as all of my "chapters/scene." In Encore, each Sequence goes onto a separate Timeline, and each is created in their proper order in Encore, so my Into is done first, "Scene 1" next, and so on, then my Credits are the last to be created in Encore. That keeps the writing of these in order, so the laser does not have to skip about, unless the user does so. This makes playback as smooth as is possible, and with the Dip-to-Black, there is never any clue given the user, that the laser has to move about. Unless they had a very accurate stop watch, they'll never pick up that their might be a slight pause, waiting for the laser.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Encore CS3 - Hangs and import problems with menus and avi footage with audio tracks present.

I'm trying to import some footage files in .avi format into Encore CS3 and am having several problems.
In what follows when I say "crash" I mean Encore quits with a standard Windows error. When I say "hang" I mean Encore does not quit but rather becomes an unresponsive process that must be killed manually using Windows Task Manager.
    My System:
    WinXP Pro SP2
2.93 GHz Intel Celeron CPU - single core
    Intel PERL mobo
    3GB 400MHz RAM
    NVidia 7800GS video
I mention these specs however I am not experiencing any hardware
related bugs or issues (like out of memory or video driver crashes
etc) when using any CS3 app.
The footage files (as reported by GSpot) and problems I am seeing. In all cases GSpot reports that I have the appropriate codec installed:
    footage1.avi - Dx50 XVid 1.0.3, Dolby AC3 48kHz 192kb/s, 716834 KB
Attempting to import as timeline causes Encore CS3 to hang.
Importing as an Asset allows it to import but when I try to click
on it in the project windown to add it to a new empty timeline,
Encore hangs. It plays fine in Windows Media Player.
    footage2.avi - Dx50 XVid 1.0.3, MPEG-1 Layer 3 48kHz 128kb/s, 718302 KB
Imports fine as either a timeline or asset but no audio track comes
with it, even though there is an audio track in the footage. It plays
fine in Windows Media Player. Video imports perfectly, just no audio.
    footage3.avi - Dx50 XVid 1.0.3, MPEG1-Layer3 48kHz 112kb/s, 717606 KB
Imports fine as either a timeline or asset but no audio track comes
with it, even though there is an audio track in the footage. It plays
fine in Windows Media Player. Video imports perfectly, just no
audio. I tried converting this one using AVS to both MPEG3 and DivX,
each using MPEG1-Layer3 44kHz 192kb/s audio, and got the same issue
upon importing into Encore CS3. I also loaded it into Camtasia
Studio and it looked fine over there. The audio was present and I
was able to export it as a .WAV file. When I tried looking at the
file in Soundbooth CS3, there was no audio track or, more
accurately, the audio track was a flat line.
By way of comparison these are importing perfectly:
    footage4.avi - XVID XviD 1.1.0 Beta2, MPEG1-Layer3 48kHz 189kb/s Two mono
    channels LAME3.96r, 717436 KB.
    footage5.avi - XVID XviD 1.1.0 Final, Dolby AC3 48kHz 448kb/s Six
    channels (3/2 .1), 716418 KB.
    footage6.avi - XVID XviD 1.1.0 Final, Dolby AC3 48kHz 448kb/s Six
    channels (3/2 .1), 716418 KB.
    footage7.avi - XVID XviD 1.0.3, Dolby AC3 48kHz 448kb/s 6 channels

Although this one imported & transcoded correctly, when I went to
build it to a DVD image file I got some strange errors during the
"planning video" stage that prevented the process from completing.
Unfortunately I neglected to write down the error message I recieved
which read like quite nonsensical babble to me, and I have since
deleted the project folder. I remember it was not a memory or
display related error and it included a timestamp where the error
was happening. I played the footage in the preview panel thru the
identified timestamp but it previewed perfectly without even a
jitter in either the video or audio. Took forever to transcode so I
doubt I'll be doing this one again anytime soon.
Another issue I am having is with the motion menus. I burned a DVD and it does not load correctly in one of my DVD players (a Sony rdr-gx330 recorder/player). It appears to take extra time to recognize the disk, the startup (first-play) menu does not show automatically, and I must press the Main Menu button on the

Another issue I am having is with the motion menus. I burned a DVD and it does not load correctly in one of my DVD players (a Sony rdr-gx330 recorder/player). It appears to take extra time to recognize the disk, the startup (first-play) menu does not show automatically, and I must press the Main Menu button on the remote control to make it appear. Other than that it seems to play ok in that player. Also tested it in 2 other DVD players (a Panasonic and Zenith) and it worked just fine like it's supposed to in them. Also plays perfectly in my computer's DVD player/burner using Windows Media Player v10. I tried burning to Memorex +RW single-layer single-sided disks at 6, 7, & 8Mbps project settings but got the exact same result every time.
Encore CS3 crashes fairly often during authoring, particularly during imports, and when I go to edit things like calling up a timeline in the timeline panel, dragging footage into an existing timeline, or changing button links in a menu etc.. I have also experienced seemingly random hangs even more often, probably 5 or 6 times as often as a crash. Saving the project after every little change I make, then closing and restarting Encore allows me to make progress albeit at a significantly reduced workflow rate. Accessing Photoshop from Encore appears to be working flawlessly so far aside from the slow load times. Encore hangs sometimes during video transcoding, repeat the process and it works ok. If I try to import a menu from the library after importing my footage files, Encore hangs trying to import it either at the 50% mark or the 99% mark (it varies even with the same exact menu selected from the library). If I import the menu first and the footage after, then no problems. Also trying to render motion menus after importing footage causes Encore to hang, render before footage import and everything works ok. Interestingly enough, previewing my project in Encore's monitor or preview panels works perfectly even in High quality mode -- in fact it operates quite smoothly in comparison to other apps I have tried. Although those footage files that had missing audio tracks on import obviously played silently, I have yet to experience a hang or crash during a preview or when scrubbing through a timeline in the monitor panel.
The last problem I've seen is with the project cache files. It doesn't always get rid of cache files when stuff is deleted from the project. I was working on one project and surprisingly ran out of disk space. When I tracked it down I found that there were some two dozen copies of a footage file I had repeatedly imported and deleted from the project still sitting in the cache folder. The file was an avi about 2GB so it was taking up some 40 GB of disk space for stuff that was no longer in the project. I tried shutting down Encore and manually deleting all the cache files, and that worked for most of them, but there was one 2GB file that kept reappearing in the cache folder even though it was no longer in the project. The XML file in the cache folder still had references to it in there so I can only assume that was the reason it kept showing up. I eventually had to delete and totally recreate the project from scratch to regain my lost disk space. This included having to sit thru a 6 hour long transcoding session which pissed me off to no end.
Encore CS3 appears on the surface to be a very powerful, feature rich, and approachable app with a simple easy to use interface, but it is awfully bugged in just about every area I have explored and still needs lots and lots of work for it to be really useful. Frankly for me it is pretty damn annoying that I have invested so much money in this suite only to find several of the apps in it (Encore & Premiere in particular) behaving this poorly. In my opinion every single app in the suite exhibits lousy performance whenever you must do anything at all involving the disk from the time you click to start it up until the time you click to close it down. Several of them are just as seriously bugged as Encore too, and being a long time Photoshop v5.5 user I expected much more from Adobe. Even Photoshop is two or three times as slow now (e.g. it takes about 20-30 seconds to simply create an empty 500x500 pixel image file and almost a full minute to load a 30x60 pixel single-layer gif). So far I have attempted to create 6 DVDs using Encore and after 3 weeks of effort have only succeeded in getting one of them onto a final disk -- and that one is kinda limping to work correctly in my DVD player. Three of those projects became so corrupted while working on them that I had to delete them completely and recreate them from scratch, only to find that I still couldn't get them to completion for one reason or another. Seriously disappointing.

  • Encore CS3 error, won't build DVD?!

I've created a basic menu in Encore CS3 with two buttons and two separate timelines.  I've checked and previewed my project several times and everything works OK.  However, whne I try and build a DVD disk, I get this error message: "PGS "file name" has an error at 3;29;14 (the very end of the video clip)  Internal software error: %0. line (my file name). PGC info: name= "my file name" ref= EPGC.time=00;3;29;14.
I rendered this video clip out of After Effects CS3 as an mpeg2 file. Have tried re-rendering out of a new After Effects project and result is the same. Have also tried different disks, same result.
The second clip in the Encore project works fine; it was captured the same way in the same format.  Both timelines play fine whne previewed in Encore and all links and buttons fiunction perfectly.
What does this error mean and how do I correct the problem?
    Thanks!

Some of us experience this pgc error (only in CS3) and have found no real solution.  There are a variety of workarounds.  I believe the most persistent version is the result of some unidentified combination of hardware and software.
One qualifier: I'm not sure that any of us that reported had exported the timeline file from AE.  I don't see that it shojl dmatter, but I'd consider the possibility that it is an actual asset error.
I believe that there are 3 variations, and they may have different implications: timelines (your issue), motion menus, and slide shows.
Copies of projects and assets taken to a machine/user who does not experience the error work fine.  Some users have done a ridiculous amount of testing (I'm one), and some have declared a solution (I am not one, and believe there are probably multiple causes).  Since CS4 is out, I doubt we will ever see any further resolution, and, since the problem can not be reliably repeated in a new project with new assets, no "bug" was ever demonstrated.
The first rule is to use flawless workflow.  (I'm copying this from notes on a previous post, and I still don't find a link right off to Neil Wilkes' and Jeff Bellune's descriptions, but one example is never changing assets with Encore closed.)  But I have instances in which I was perfect (ha, ha), and the error occurred.
In most instances, one or more workarounds can be used.  If you used a muxed file, do it again with demuxed.  If you used files that were in the same folder as the xmpses files (the files premiere creates to carry project/chapter info), delete the files other than the m2v and wav and reimport the asset as a timeline. (You will have to redo the chapter markers.  It is best to delete the old file from the project, and have the newly imported file renamed.  However, I have done it various ways successfully.)  If you have long file names with spaces, shorten and remove the spaces.
