Encore CS3 settings to burn DVD

Everytime a create a DVD and then put it into the DVD player it says error or wrong disk.
When I build the the DVD and the project asks me to select first play in the properties menu, I hit chapter 1. Then for the Title Button it asks me to set that button as well so I select specify link and then the project.
Is this wrong?
What should the settings be set to?
PLEEEEAAAASSSSEEEEEE HELP!!!!!!!!

If you do not have a printed manual (you can take the PDF to a quick-print shop and let them print it all out for you), I strongly recommend that you get a copy of Jeff Bellune's wonderful book, The Focal Easy Guide to Adobe EncoreDVD 2.0, Focal Press. Though it was written for an earlier version of Encore, 100% of that book will apply to your version. Jeff steps one though every phase of a DVD Project, form layout to Importing to Burning, and will also give you great little "secrets" as well. Were I just starting out with Encore, I would rush order that book from Amazon, or similar. You will never regret this.
Also, a screen-cap of your Flowchart would be very, very helpful. I think that all of believe that we know where the issue is, but that screen-cap will confirm it, and then we can tell you how to modify your Flowchart to make things that will work.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Can Adobe Encore CS3 make a 24p DVD or not?

I'm trying to create a professional quality 24p DVD (Progressive: 23.976 fps)  But when you open Encore and choose Authoring Mode: DVD I only have two options PAL or NTSC and all the other options are disabled!  But that screen says: It will be either 29.97i for NTSC or 25i for PAL.  I'm trying to make a real DVD here!  Not a home movie.  How do I get rid of the interlacing and get it to 24 fps?  If I change the transcode settings inside the project after accepting one of those bad settings does that do anything?  It doesn't seem like it when I write my DVD.

    JackSkyyler wrote:
Anyway, the thing I'm confused on is: how would it work when I'm in a 29.97i project?  It doesn't seem like it could be writing it correctly.
Oh, and in format should I be using MPEG2 or MPEG2-DVD
I tried the MPEG2 because I'd already tried this for MPEG2-DVD and it didn't seem to work plus I couldn't find the pulldown option on it.
You need to do some serious research on the DVD spec and what's legal  and what's not.  Encore's got its share of bugs, but there's no hope  for a successful project unless the author knows what he's doing.  24P  isn't for home movies (as you've noted) and it moves you squarely  into big-boy land.  Your questions indicate that you have no idea about how 24P footage can be stored on an NTSC DVD.  May I suggest the DVD FAQ at the DVD Demystified web site?
Two En CS3 bugs are noteworthy:
En will re-transcode your video, even if it is DVD-legal, if it contains multiplexed audio that doesn't match your En project audio settings.  That's why it's best to transcode to elementary streams: M2V video and WAV or AC3 audio.
If you allow En to transcode your 24P video, En will hard-code the 2:3 pulldown into the video stream instead of simply setting pulldown flags.  You'll end up with a real 29.97 fps interlaced video file and your 24P look will be ruined.  En CS4 and En CS5 don't have that issue.
Your other option is to hire an experienced DVD author to author the disc for you.

  • Encore CS3 will only burn in Admin

We use Encore CS3 in a domain. Our power user accounts can not burn a disc. Encore works fine when logged in as an admin on or off the domain. Is there a work around other than the shift>right click>admin acct fix?
    Thanks

Is there any other way to do this? Just running as Administrator and thus opening up every computer that needs to use Encore to the threats involved does not seem like a good solution.

  • Scratch disk settings, and burned DVD's freezing

Hi, I would be very grateful for help with the following please. Recently I changed my scratch disk settings for the last 2 projects, and am now having problems. Please tell me if they are connected. Up until now my scratch disk settings were all set on the C drive, ie. the same drive as windows operating system. I have now changed these all to the I drive, ie. a secondary internal hard drive. My new problem is that when I send my project to Adobe Encore via Dynamic link, and add menus and burn on to DVD, my finished DVD is freezing and jumping in various random places.
I am using a pretty high end system on windows 7 64 bit. I am using TDK dvd-r discs, as I have been for the last 15 years. On reading some forums, I understand that these TDK discs are not the greatest, so I am awaiting delivery of some Verbatim 43549 16x DVD-R 4.7GB. I should have these by tomorrow, but I am not at all confident that this is my answer. Because I have been using the TDK discs for so long, and have only had the occasional coaster from them, I can't see that I now am getting 90% coasters from them.
So, to sum up! Are these scratch disk settings correct, or am I confusing things having to swap across hard drives? This is the only thing that I am aware that I have changed in the last 2 projects, and am now having this problem. Your help would be most welcome, regards Charlie

Hi. It's me, again! Sorry for going on about this, but I am at a complete loss now. Here is my chain of events.
I bought some Verbatim 16x DVD-R discs, burned off one copy and watched it start to finish, perfect. Full of confidence I proceeded to burn off my three problem weddings, each consisting of 2-3 discs times 6 copies of each. A total of 42 discs, labeled and ready to go. I then done a spot check on some, and they started pixelating, and freezing, same as before. So into the fire they went.
I then purchased a Sony Optiarc AD-7280S writer, fitted it and tried again on Verbatim discs. Even more full of confidence, because I had burned these on Imageburn software at 4X. (Previous to this I was burning from Encore at 6X), and the first one was flawless, I made the same mistake, and burned all 42 again, labels and all. Spot check again, problem still there. I then tried playing them in my other Sony DVD player, just in case, no good. Into the fire again.
I then got my old computer wired up, which is fitted with a Pioneer writer (model no 108 or something to that effect) and burned off a few copies. Perfect, as far as I can see. I have randomly watched 5 different DVD's from this, and as far as I know, they are fine. I really don't want to watch any more weddings. There is only so much I can take. LOL. But I do beleive the 42 discs are fine, even the few that I had to burn on my old TDK discs, as I am awaiting delivery of more Verbatims.
I don't understand this. It is a new computer in May last year, and I have had no end of problems since using it. It had been set up for power saving, and this caused all sorts of problems. However, all the power settings are now set up for perfomance, screensavers switched off, auto updates disabled on my internet security suite. I think windows updates automatically, but I don't see how to disable this. Still, I disconnect from the internet when burning now anyway.
    ANY IDEAS PLEEEEASEEEE.
    Best regards Charlie

  • Encore CS3 does not see dvd drive

When I log onto a pc in our labs as a regular user and open Encore the dvd drive is not seen by Encore.
Logged in as an administrator, I can see the dvd drive in Encore.
Does anyone know how I can resolve this problem without giving admin rights to students?
Thank you for your time and assistance.

As far as I know, Encore is not written as multi-user, the operator must have full use of the computer

  • Encore CS3 not burning to disc?

    Hi all,
I am using CS3 Encore and up to now have been very successful when creating a Blu-Ray DVD.
Most of my footage has been around 1-11/2 hours long so I have always left it on Auto transcode and its been fine.
However, I have created a project at 1 hour 57 mins but now after waiting 7 hours each time for rendering, it pops out the disc and tells
    me that there is a Encore CS3; Blu-Ray burning .... "Device Error", Code "3", Note: "AS-Storage Error= -97140.
I have also burned an image file which ends up as a 23.83 GB file, leaving just 1.17GB space on disc but will not burn?
I have reverted to burning a 1 1/2 disc and it does it fine. I am told by another that the file ends up as too larger a file to burn?
OK, as nobody seems to have solved this issue while searching the net, I was wondering if I could get some help with the transcode settings?
The transcode setting have been change by me many times from.... Min 1.5  Target 25  Max 30, Down to  Min 1.5,  Target 17,  Max 20.
However, the final project before going to burn is still 23.83GB, and the same error:  Encore CS3; Blu-Ray burning .... "Device Error", Code "3", Note: "AS-Storage Error= -97140 is showing after ejecting disc?
    can anyone please help?
    Thanks
    Alan Grove

Hi Jeff, thanks for that I will give it a go.
    Something I dont understand?
When I put project together it says in EN that the disc has 12gb used with
    12Gb unused.
Yet when I build it tells me that the disc has used 23.83 GB and has 1.7Gb
    free?
I wish I understood these bloody programmes he he.
I am used to just putting in a disc and being told immediately if it will
    burn after 7 hours waiting?

  • Encore CS3: Not closing DVD's

I had no issues with Encore 1 or 2, but ever since I've installed Encore CS3, my DVD's are still "open". This is confirmed by using Roxio 9's disc properties.
The reason this is important is, my DVD dubber will not dub open discs. I need them closed.
Is this a bug? Again, when I burned DVD's with Encore 2, they were fine. It wasn't until I upgraded to CS3 (just two days ago) when the 'open disc' issues started.

Most applications will dub open DVD's.
The problem I ran into is, I have a DVD duplicating tower and it just won't accept open DVD's. We've contacted the manufacturer and that's just the way the machine and drives work. The DVD's need to be closed.
Again, this is the only system that I've ever run into a problem (regarding open DVD's).
That's probably why Adobe isn't getting many complaints. Most people are using Nero or Roxio, which isn't giving them any issues when dubbing. Since my company is using a specialized dubbing system (which the average user wouldn't own), I seem to be one of the few who are noticing this issue.
and Minu, I'm confused about you saying that DVD-R's are being closed, because that's not the case with me and the Adobe tech even confirmed that Encore CS3 will not close DVD-R's.
p.s. I see jbowden posted while I was typing this. Yes, this is only an issue with certain dubbing systems that require closed DVD's.

  • Burn DVD content to CD in Encore

    Hi,
I have Master Collection CS3 and am trying to get an Encore project to auto play on a CD (this short movie is going to be distributed to customers & I want to make sure everyone can view it - not just those who have a dvd drive on their computers).
I found documentation that Encore 2.0 allowed burning DVD-compliant projects to CDs but I can't find the capability in Encore CS3. Is there a plug-in or some other way to burn to CD?
I tried saving as .swf, converting to .exe & burning to CD which works really well for autoplaying on PCs but it obviously won't work on Macs.
Any tips or advice would be very much appreciated.

Sorry, but no version of Encore has ever supported burning a project to CD.

  • Encore CS3 crash when i click Build (SWF, BluRay, DVD Burn/Image/Folder) or Check project

So I'm finally done with my DVD. Now i want this burned to a dvd or make an image file. Each time i hit BUILD or START (Check proj) the program quits and I'm left with the normal OS X message: The application Adobe Encore quit unexpectedly >> Ignore - Report... - Relaunch
My DVD is not that fancy but i got a menu with 3 buttons made in PS with a pointer highlight and a animating background made in After Effects (using dynamic link) with some music. All of the buttons link to After effects comps with dynamic link. All of the after effects compositions are transcoded and works within the DVD preview (except the DVD menu background wont play, and i got a feeling it will play when i export an image or DVD). And all the After Effects comps links back 2 the menu when done. So there should be no error in the project flowchart.

So i hit build and Encore quits, shut down, finada (Every time!). No matter what out put settings i use. I've exported DVD's from encore before on this computer without problems.

Don't know if this any help but hope anybody got some ideas. I've been trying to look for a solution on the forums, but without any luck.
By the way, I'm using a Mac Pro v3,1 (early 2008) with 2 x 2,8ghz quads, 10GB memory, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT (512mb) and plenty of disk space.

Hey, i think if there could be any of the possibilities you talk about, it might have been a naming error. All files i created had the same name in the new project as in the old one. But i used 1 asset arrow that i copy pasted from a library button "Red facets button" and shift pasted on my own buttons as highlight (paste sub picture). In the first project i did not do this as a straight forward thing, a lot of deleting and adding because i had never done it before and there might have happened something with the naming of the arrow i pasted. I used the same arrow in the second project but without messing with delete, paste all the time. But some how there is no problems now, just something wrong with the last project file =S
    Not so important:
I also noticed while building the new project i once got an "General error", not sure why but happened after a random crash. And 2 get rid of it i had to delete the menu and make it again (i could not edit anything in the menu without getting the error). I rebuild the menu and had another crash when exiting the program, because i thought my computer needs to boot after 2 days online. When i reopened the project i got "General error" in the menu again, but after some clicking it didn't show up (random). Finally i got my project setup and everything works, i did the copy past as sub picture as a straight forward thing.

  • PGC error when burning in Encore CS3 ... help

I've looked and can not find any one else with exactly this problem. I recently upgraded to Adobe Creative Suite 3 and can not get a DVD to burn. The project checks fine, the files transcode without difficulty but during the burning process, I very quickly get a PGC "file name" error.
I have a Sony Pentium 4, 2 GHz, with 1.21 G of RAM, and plenty (30 G) free on my hard drive. I have a 16X Memorex DVD burner which is probably 6 months old, but up until now has worked great. I've tried several different brands of DVD-R media and same problem.
I'd describe myself as an advanced amateur at video making. I taught myself on Nova's Video Explosion and burned 100's of dvd's on the Sonic's My DVD program over the past 5 years. Actually that system worked well, but I'd outgrown it. I downloaded Encore 2.0 free 30 day trial and loved it. I'd import (uncompressed) avi files that I'd created in other programs (mostly Video Explosion, but also Movie Shaker, and Windows Movie Maker), create menus in PS CS2 and my DVD's burned quickly and without errors at all. When my 30 days expired, I found they no longer offered 2.0 and I decided to spend the big bucks at got Creative Suite 3 really solely for Encore.
I've now spent 3 days trying all kinds of different things, many different files from different sources and I always get the same error message of "PGC "file name" has an error at "time" internal software error %0, line "file name:, time 00:"time", ref= BPGC.
I did read some messages on here about uncompressed avi vs. compressed avi. I did find that I was using uncompressed avi, but when I used Adobe premiere and rendered as MPEG 2 ( I believe), I got the same error. The only success (?) I had was when I rendered a file as a .MOV. It did burn without the dreaded error message, but the quality was extremely poor and jumpy.
Any ideas? I've got a project due in a couple of days and at present I've got files that I can't get to DVD...

So, finally I've found the source of the problem and a workaround!
    First the source:
when Encore has to transcode a video it must corrupt the file, because it's the transcoded file that causes the problem, I tried this by importing a transcoded file into Encore 1.5 there it came with the same error.
Now the workaround, ok maybe it isn't quite a workaround but it's a way to go:
What I did was: I built my project new in Encore 1.5, because Encore 2.0 has a problem importing the videos by me, but if you would just import the videos in 1.5 and let 1.5 transcode them so that all of them would fit on a DVD you should be able to import the transcoded files in CS3 and it should work, no guarantee.
Other possibility: try opening your project in encore 2.0 and re import your videos there and let 2.0 do all of the transcoding, that might work too!
But for certain: don't let encore CS3 do all the transcoding!
I'm working with PAL files I don't know if it will be the same by NTSC, but it's worth a try!
If anybody feels like reproducing the bug, here is the way to do it:
Make a project in Encore CS3 and import Videos encoded by premiere as MPG2-DVD (I think: .m2v .wav) and set the transcoding options to automatic, encore should have to transcode the files. Then let encore make the DVD, at some point you should get that nice PGC error!

  • Burned DVD does not produce the same result as the Encore 2.0 preview

Video captured directly into Adobe Premier Pro 2.0 from a Canon GL2 camera
Using an HP media center PC (Model M1270N)
    Pentium 4 (3.00 GHz)
    1.0 GB RAM
ATI Radeon X300SE PCI-E graphics card 128 MB DDR video memory
I purchased Adobe Creative Suite (Production Studio Premier) last month. Using Adobe Premier Pro 2.0 I produced two video
One video was 36:43 minutes. Original size was 8.35 GB, 7.9 bitrate
Second video was 37:41 minutes. Original size was 8.57 GB, 7.9 bitrate
I then brought them into Adobe Encore 2.0 and created a simple menu. Using the Preview from here button the menu and the videos had no problem. Using the Check Project button there were no errors. The disc information showed that there was 146.8 Mb free on a 4.7 GB disc after the project was transcoded.
Upon burning the DVD and putting it into a computer or a DVD player the first video played fine all the way through the second one within the last 3 minutes began skipping for the remainder of the video and then terminated as planned by going back to the menu.
Question: Is there any way to keep the last portion of the second video from skipping? I found the problem when I had sent the DVD off to a duplicator and the duplicator told us about the problem.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hussman,
Glad that Playlists worked for you. DVD authoring can be a great learning experience, as a whole. The Encore part came pretty easy for me, but I had the help of many of the gurus in this forum, plus Jeff Belune's book, "Focal Easy Guide to EncoreDVD 2." Don't let the Encore 2 part throw you, as 95%+ of the info carries over to Encore CS3, and possibly CS4.
After the manual, Jeff's book, and the "Classroom in a Book EncoreXX," I find that just reading the posts in this forum is a big help. Almost every day I find a "wow, I didn't know you could do
    b THAT
with Encore," just by reading the stuff here.
Fortunately, my relationship with the program has been Love/Love, but maybe I've just been fortunate.
    Good luck,

  • DVD pauses right before credits Encore CS3

    Hello,
I am making a DVD and have burned a copy, everything is fine except when the video goes into the credits the video pauses for a second or so.
Here are my steps in creating the DVD.
    1. Edited movie in Premiere
    2. In Premiere I went to Title>New Title>Default Still and on the 'Roll/Crawl Options' I added a Roll
    3. Typed in my text and closed it.
    4. I Put the Credits video clip in the timeline and added a 'Cross Disolve' transition
    5. I Went to File>Export>Export to Encore   I Exported the movie with this summary  -
         NTSC, 720x480, 29.97 non-drop frame [fps], Progressive, Quality 5.0
         48 kHz, 16 bit, PCM
VBR, 2 Pass, Min 1.50, Target 4.00, Max 7.00 [Mbps]
    6. In Encore I added a basic menu
    7. I then Burned the DVD
Again my problem is that halfway into the cross disolve leading into the credits it pauses for ~1sec.  I think it may be the way Encore burns the disc because this does not happen in the preview window of Encore.
    I am using . . .
    Windows XP Profesional
    Premiere CS3
    Encore CS3
    All help is appreciated,
    Nicholas

I have never heard of DiscMaker brand. Could be great, or maybe not. Many companies buy the cheapest discs that day, and then rebrand them, like Memorex, so you never know what you are getting.
An ISO is an Image of the disc, and is created, when you choose Burn to Image. It is similar to doing a Burn to Folder, but is different. The great freeware, ImgBurn can burn either the ISO, or the VIDEO_TS created with Burn to Folder. I like that second option a bit better, only because the VIDEO_TS folder will play in most DVD software players, like MediaPlayer Classic HC (freeware). ImgBurn will also tell you what the mfgr. of those discs is.
I edit most Projects, a bit differently, than many others. Each segment of my Project is in a separate Sequence in PrPro. Each starts with a tiny bit of Black Video, and then fades into the footage with a Dip-to-Black (could use a Cross-Dissolve here too). Each ends with a tiny bit of Black Video, with the same Transition. My Credits would be on their own Sequence, as all of my "chapters/scene." In Encore, each Sequence goes onto a separate Timeline, and each is created in their proper order in Encore, so my Into is done first, "Scene 1" next, and so on, then my Credits are the last to be created in Encore. That keeps the writing of these in order, so the laser does not have to skip about, unless the user does so. This makes playback as smooth as is possible, and with the Dip-to-Black, there is never any clue given the user, that the laser has to move about. Unless they had a very accurate stop watch, they'll never pick up that their might be a slight pause, waiting for the laser.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Transcode settings in Encore CS3 for 24 frames?

Ok so I exported my 3 short films (all 23.976) and then dropped them into encore. Used the "automatic" transcode settings, and burned a DVD. Looks like crap. I found I can make my own preset for transcoding, so what settings should I be using to make the video not jittery and blurry.I tried putting the transcode setting to 23.976, and it sped the video up, and left the audio at the same speed....which doesn`t make sense. My source video is 23.976....so thats not the right way to do it. How do I make a 24 frames DVD?

How do I make a 24 frames DVD?
My own experience with this is that you must create a 24p MPEG2 file with appropriate pulldown flags for use in Encore.  Any other option and Encore will mess up the pulldown.
