Encore CS3 subtitle from DVD to avi

I have two problems in my subtitle process.
1) I have made subtitles manually in a 5 minute movie, within the safe margins of the screen. None are more than one(1) line long. I have the movie to play at once (no menu) and just a single subtitles track. It works fine when I preview it in encore (cs3), however, when I build a DVD folder and play it, there are no subtitles and I cannot enable them.
I am quite new with encore, so perhaps I am missing something vital (apart from not being experienced ;)). What should I do?
2) I need my subtitles to work if I convert the DVD files to another format. That is, I will be needing it for a youtube video, with subtitles or something similar. Is there any method to prefer above others - and what should I be aware of, when I convert.
Will subtitles from a correct DVD folder, be integrated in a conversion?
Thanks in advance,
- M.

I'm having the same problem that Marcus had, is there a solution please?

  • Exporting Subtitle from DVD Studio Pro

Is there a way to export subtitles from DVD Studio Pro or Is there a tool somewhere that will generate an STL file from a DVD Studio Pro subtitle stream?
    Thanks for your help!

Yes, other than the manual -- which I have exhausted. It gave me the coding for a text-based caption, and the coding for a graphic, but not the coding that would put both on the same clip (same time value).
However, I can manually go into the subtitle inspector and add whatever element (the text or the graphic) each with its own offsets, and have them appear flawlessly together. I am convinced there must be coding that generates this effect I can use in the STL file, but I have found nothing on the web, nor any of several downloaded manuals (including pp. 456 - 460).
    Any advice?

  • Exportin subtitles from DVD Studio pro

Do you have an idea how can I export subtitles from DVD SP? I have created a few years ago subtitles for a documentary (PAL) and now they want it converted to NTSC. I was thinking on creating a new NTSC project and transferring the subtitles to it (hooping the placement won't change allot, and if so I'll just need to move it a bit. But I can't find a way to export the subtitles.

    Sorry nope!
Hopefully you have the file you imported and didn't do all the work in dvdsp.

  • Encore CS3 subtitles won't default to "off"

I'm using Encore CS3, and have a couple of subtitle tracks, but want the default to be "subtitle off" and despite my setting the disk build properties to "Subtitle: Off", the disk, when created (and even in the Encore preview windows), the subtitle always defaults to playing the first subtitle track.  I don't want the viewers to have to turn off the subtitles every time they view the DVD.  The "Play" button for the program on the main menu is set to "Subtitle: No Change". So, unless I go and turn the subtitles on, the DVD should theoretically play with subtitles OFF, right?
Now, I can force the "Play" link to play the track with subtitles off, but then that prevents the viewers from turning the subtitles on via the subtitles menu (which throws back to the "Play" link, which would then turn the subtitles back OFF when it's hit.)
I suppose I could create a separate identical copy of the main menu, the "First Play" one with the subtitles forced "off," and then one that the subtitle selection menu can throw back to, that is set at "No Change", but that all seems kind of unnecessarily circuitous.
So far the only other "workaround" I can think of is to make the first subtitle track a blank track, and then put the "real" subtitles on tracks 2 & 3.  But that seems like kind of a cheap workaround.
    Anyone have any insights?  Thanks!

    Hello.
You don't actually mention if this problem occurs in preview or in a real player.
If in preview - what happens on a real disc?
if on a real player, is the player perhaps set to have a default subtitle language? I ran across this on a recent project & had to force subtitles to default off on the disc, as the player insisted on displaying subtitles because it's firmware had set it's language as "English".

  • Encore CS3: Not closing DVD's

I had no issues with Encore 1 or 2, but ever since I've installed Encore CS3, my DVD's are still "open". This is confirmed by using Roxio 9's disc properties.
The reason this is important is, my DVD dubber will not dub open discs. I need them closed.
Is this a bug? Again, when I burned DVD's with Encore 2, they were fine. It wasn't until I upgraded to CS3 (just two days ago) when the 'open disc' issues started.

Most applications will dub open DVD's.
The problem I ran into is, I have a DVD duplicating tower and it just won't accept open DVD's. We've contacted the manufacturer and that's just the way the machine and drives work. The DVD's need to be closed.
Again, this is the only system that I've ever run into a problem (regarding open DVD's).
That's probably why Adobe isn't getting many complaints. Most people are using Nero or Roxio, which isn't giving them any issues when dubbing. Since my company is using a specialized dubbing system (which the average user wouldn't own), I seem to be one of the few who are noticing this issue.
and Minu, I'm confused about you saying that DVD-R's are being closed, because that's not the case with me and the Adobe tech even confirmed that Encore CS3 will not close DVD-R's.
p.s. I see jbowden posted while I was typing this. Yes, this is only an issue with certain dubbing systems that require closed DVD's.

  • How to extract Subtitles from DVD using Snow Leopard?

    Hey there,
this may be off-topic, but I don't know where to ask. Anyone know how I can extract Subtitltes and create an .srt File from a Movie DVD using Snow Leopard?

I too have been looking diligently for something I can use to glean .srt files from DVD's.  Secondarily, .sub/.idx files.  I didn't quite realize how much software would be made useless by my shift to Lion.  Amazing amounts!
Is there any other product, commercial or otherwise that is known to accomplish this task?
If one is found, please update the discussion here!  Thanks.

  • Encore  CS3- Domain User  DVD Device Permissions Problems

Encore is unable to see DVD Device and the Adobe utility only corrects for Local computer accounts and not domain accounts. The network administrator must setup an additional account (Local)to the computer that all Premier/Encore user must now log off there domain account and then login to local account so that they are able to burn there project to DVD. I was told by adobe support that they cant help because it works via a local account and that the issue is a domain issue and not an issue with there software. Is there a reg. hack that one could use to correct the problem with Premier/Encore to use windows xp security to allow the application the same permissions that windows give the Domain local user.I was also told by Adobe support that maybe if I had gold support they would maybe have a tech group who could handle network related issues with there software but he was not sure. This would be great to get resolved after buying a site license of the Master collection for a school
    Thank You
    Allan Shaw

Every message concerning networks is that Encore (and Premiere) are not designed to run on a network... so they mostly do not
I've also read that a non-Administrator user account is usually not going to work well... if at all
The simple fact is (from what I've read in these forums) that Encore and Premiere are written for ONE user on ONE computer... and anything else may work by accident, but not by design

  • Encore CS3/4/5  DVD mit mehreren Startmenüs erstellen

    Hallo Community :-)

    "weiter" umbenennen in "zurück".
Im Flußdiagramm dann die Buttons mit den entspr. Filmen verknüpfen,
die Weiter- und Zurück-Buttons mit den entspr. Menüs verknüpfen.

  • Encore DVD 2.0 and Vista?,.....and Encore CS3 questions

Encore dvd 2.0....are you guys going to continue to support this and make a patch for it to run under Vista? if so where can I find it? Kind of bad to buy a product and the company drops support on it immediately after purchase and it won't run on the operating system....
Also is/will there be and upgrade to encore dvd 2.0?
I know that you have Encore cs3, is that the upgrade to encore 2.0? and will you be selling Encore CS3, separate from Premiere? I need nothing in Premiere and want the Encore dvd and for it to run with Vista. Please have an option to buy just the Encore CS3 without having to buy premiere and stuff that I don't need because if that is the case then I will not be buying Adobe products anymore. I won't be forced to purchase extra software I have no need for in order to get the one program that I want...it is not worth it..easier to change to a different company for that product...just asking...and if you care about your customers, you might at least listen and consider what I have requested..thanks..t

    >chances of them selling encore cs3 in the future separate?
Since their entire marketing push seems to be the bundling of the 2 products, I would say "slim to none"
    >hurry and buy encore 2.o
The least expensive way to get Encore 3 is to buy Premiere Pro 2 right NOW and get a free upgrade to Pro3+Encore3 when it is released
If you have any previous version of Premiere, you may even buy Pro2 for the upgrade price and receive the free upgrade to the version 3 duo

  • How To Archive Encore CS3 projects

Question: How To Archive Encore CS3 projects
I edit my AVI files in Premiere Pro CS3 and then author in Encore CS3. When the project is finished, I want to archive both the Premiere and Encore projects. If I need to restore a project, I would recapure the AVI files from the mini DV tapes using Premiere.
What Encore and Premiere files and folders do I have to save so I can later restore the project?
What files and folders can I erase?
    Thank you for the feedback.

Adobe Premiere Pro is very similar to Final Cut Pro (non-X). It has a number of pros, including being bundled with the Creative Suite, which includes Photoshop.
Avid Media Composer is, IMHO the best "story telling" editor, but is a little more difficult and unwieldy when it comes to effects etc. In addition to being pricey, it also require compliance with the use of only AVID approved hardware.
Autodesk has Smoke on the Mac, which is an excellent effects editor, but with a $17K price tag.
My personal plan is to bunker my FCS 3 systems and run them until they drop, while slowly and comfortable migrating to Premiere Pro.
One big advantage to either of these editors (with the exception of Smoke on the Mac)  is that they are cross-platform, so if you learn the Mac version you can switch easily to the PC version - which protects your investment of time in learning the softwre as the future for the Mac Pro is also hazy.

  • Newbie Question-Encore CS3

I just recently purchased Adobe Encore CS3
    and a DVD duplicator.
    I have a question,
When I am ready to build my DVD project.
I go to BUILD Menu and
at the bottom they have this
    COPY PROTECTION
CGMS if I select-NO COPIES ARE ALLOWED
does this mean I can not use my
    duplicator, will it prevent it
    from copying my master copy?
What I am trying to do is just burn one
Master DVD and put this DVD at my duplicator
so then it will just copy and burn 5-8 disc at a
    time.
    Just wondering, I hope someone
can tell me or educate me.
Thank you ...have a great day

    Question-Encore CS3
I would like to know why when I made the DVD for a project that is perfect in the computer, I can not see the button function when I use the DVD in a normal DVD player for television.
The control DVD player is function only with number but not with arrow!!! I don't see the sign of the menu position.
Infact if I put the DVD in the DVD drive of the computer I see the film perfectly, but if I put the same DVD created in a normal DVD player, I don't see the button animated. I can change position just with pressing the number of the poistion but not with the arrows !!
Can you tell me what I have to do ???
    Thank you for the answer.

  • Download for Adobe Encore CS3?

In the process of reinstalling Adobe Encore CS3 from an Adobe created disc, I get a message from McAfee antivirus that the disc contains a virus.  Is there a way I can download Adobe Encore CS3 directly from the Adobe website?

The only way you can download a product from Adobe is if you originally purchased via download, so you may go back to "your" account at Adobe to use your original download link
Since you have a disc from Adobe, and I do not remember ever reading of a virus on an Adobe disc, I will guess that McAfee is wrong
Until I upgraded to CS5, I had CS3 on disc, and Norton did not complain when I installed
    I suggest you contact MacAfee

  • Premiere CS3 avi to Encore CS3 DVD

I have captured an avi video in Premiere CS3. I want to burn it to a DVD in Encore CS3. Do I want to create an MPEG 2 file first and then send it to Encore or do I want to send it directly as an avi file? I want the DVD without menus.

    > What is the advantage of creating the MPEG2 file in Premiere CS3?
1.) If you have a 24p timeline, you can export it as 24p MPEG2 -- for some reason Encore will not encode 24p
2.) You dont need to create an intermediary AVI file.
    a) A lot of folks think that DV is the ideal intermediary for DVD. It is not. The format is quite lossy; especially for graphics, photos, animation, titles, etc.
    b) Alternatively, you can export as a lossless or uncompressed format, but these files are very large for long projects -- and Premiere does not output uncompressed very efficiently anyway. Better to use a lossless codec like Lagarith.
    c) Jeff's approach is a fine one also, but this will only work for a single sequence (which is totally appropriate to the OPs needs, however). For multiple sequences, it is best to use lossless AVI files as I mentioned in my last point.

  • Encore CS3 - Hangs and import problems with menus and avi footage with audio tracks present.

I'm trying to import some footage files in .avi format into Encore CS3 and am having several problems.
In what follows when I say "crash" I mean Encore quits with a standard Windows error. When I say "hang" I mean Encore does not quit but rather becomes an unresponsive process that must be killed manually using Windows Task Manager.
    My System:
    WinXP Pro SP2
2.93 GHz Intel Celeron CPU - single core
    Intel PERL mobo
    3GB 400MHz RAM
    NVidia 7800GS video
I mention these specs however I am not experiencing any hardware
related bugs or issues (like out of memory or video driver crashes
etc) when using any CS3 app.
The footage files (as reported by GSpot) and problems I am seeing. In all cases GSpot reports that I have the appropriate codec installed:
    footage1.avi - Dx50 XVid 1.0.3, Dolby AC3 48kHz 192kb/s, 716834 KB
Attempting to import as timeline causes Encore CS3 to hang.
Importing as an Asset allows it to import but when I try to click
on it in the project windown to add it to a new empty timeline,
Encore hangs. It plays fine in Windows Media Player.
    footage2.avi - Dx50 XVid 1.0.3, MPEG-1 Layer 3 48kHz 128kb/s, 718302 KB
Imports fine as either a timeline or asset but no audio track comes
with it, even though there is an audio track in the footage. It plays
fine in Windows Media Player. Video imports perfectly, just no audio.
    footage3.avi - Dx50 XVid 1.0.3, MPEG1-Layer3 48kHz 112kb/s, 717606 KB
Imports fine as either a timeline or asset but no audio track comes
with it, even though there is an audio track in the footage. It plays
fine in Windows Media Player. Video imports perfectly, just no
audio. I tried converting this one using AVS to both MPEG3 and DivX,
each using MPEG1-Layer3 44kHz 192kb/s audio, and got the same issue
upon importing into Encore CS3. I also loaded it into Camtasia
Studio and it looked fine over there. The audio was present and I
was able to export it as a .WAV file. When I tried looking at the
file in Soundbooth CS3, there was no audio track or, more
accurately, the audio track was a flat line.
By way of comparison these are importing perfectly:
    footage4.avi - XVID XviD 1.1.0 Beta2, MPEG1-Layer3 48kHz 189kb/s Two mono
    channels LAME3.96r, 717436 KB.
    footage5.avi - XVID XviD 1.1.0 Final, Dolby AC3 48kHz 448kb/s Six
    channels (3/2 .1), 716418 KB.
    footage6.avi - XVID XviD 1.1.0 Final, Dolby AC3 48kHz 448kb/s Six
    channels (3/2 .1), 716418 KB.
    footage7.avi - XVID XviD 1.0.3, Dolby AC3 48kHz 448kb/s 6 channels

    footage8.avi - XVID XviD 1.0.3, Dolby AC3 48kHz 448kb/s 6 channels

Although this one imported & transcoded correctly, when I went to
build it to a DVD image file I got some strange errors during the
"planning video" stage that prevented the process from completing.
Unfortunately I neglected to write down the error message I recieved
which read like quite nonsensical babble to me, and I have since
deleted the project folder. I remember it was not a memory or
display related error and it included a timestamp where the error
was happening. I played the footage in the preview panel thru the
identified timestamp but it previewed perfectly without even a
jitter in either the video or audio. Took forever to transcode so I
doubt I'll be doing this one again anytime soon.
Another issue I am having is with the motion menus. I burned a DVD and it does not load correctly in one of my DVD players (a Sony rdr-gx330 recorder/player). It appears to take extra time to recognize the disk, the startup (first-play) menu does not show automatically, and I must press the Main Menu button on the

Another issue I am having is with the motion menus. I burned a DVD and it does not load correctly in one of my DVD players (a Sony rdr-gx330 recorder/player). It appears to take extra time to recognize the disk, the startup (first-play) menu does not show automatically, and I must press the Main Menu button on the remote control to make it appear. Other than that it seems to play ok in that player. Also tested it in 2 other DVD players (a Panasonic and Zenith) and it worked just fine like it's supposed to in them. Also plays perfectly in my computer's DVD player/burner using Windows Media Player v10. I tried burning to Memorex +RW single-layer single-sided disks at 6, 7, & 8Mbps project settings but got the exact same result every time.
Encore CS3 crashes fairly often during authoring, particularly during imports, and when I go to edit things like calling up a timeline in the timeline panel, dragging footage into an existing timeline, or changing button links in a menu etc.. I have also experienced seemingly random hangs even more often, probably 5 or 6 times as often as a crash. Saving the project after every little change I make, then closing and restarting Encore allows me to make progress albeit at a significantly reduced workflow rate. Accessing Photoshop from Encore appears to be working flawlessly so far aside from the slow load times. Encore hangs sometimes during video transcoding, repeat the process and it works ok. If I try to import a menu from the library after importing my footage files, Encore hangs trying to import it either at the 50% mark or the 99% mark (it varies even with the same exact menu selected from the library). If I import the menu first and the footage after, then no problems. Also trying to render motion menus after importing footage causes Encore to hang, render before footage import and everything works ok. Interestingly enough, previewing my project in Encore's monitor or preview panels works perfectly even in High quality mode -- in fact it operates quite smoothly in comparison to other apps I have tried. Although those footage files that had missing audio tracks on import obviously played silently, I have yet to experience a hang or crash during a preview or when scrubbing through a timeline in the monitor panel.
The last problem I've seen is with the project cache files. It doesn't always get rid of cache files when stuff is deleted from the project. I was working on one project and surprisingly ran out of disk space. When I tracked it down I found that there were some two dozen copies of a footage file I had repeatedly imported and deleted from the project still sitting in the cache folder. The file was an avi about 2GB so it was taking up some 40 GB of disk space for stuff that was no longer in the project. I tried shutting down Encore and manually deleting all the cache files, and that worked for most of them, but there was one 2GB file that kept reappearing in the cache folder even though it was no longer in the project. The XML file in the cache folder still had references to it in there so I can only assume that was the reason it kept showing up. I eventually had to delete and totally recreate the project from scratch to regain my lost disk space. This included having to sit thru a 6 hour long transcoding session which pissed me off to no end.
Encore CS3 appears on the surface to be a very powerful, feature rich, and approachable app with a simple easy to use interface, but it is awfully bugged in just about every area I have explored and still needs lots and lots of work for it to be really useful. Frankly for me it is pretty damn annoying that I have invested so much money in this suite only to find several of the apps in it (Encore & Premiere in particular) behaving this poorly. In my opinion every single app in the suite exhibits lousy performance whenever you must do anything at all involving the disk from the time you click to start it up until the time you click to close it down. Several of them are just as seriously bugged as Encore too, and being a long time Photoshop v5.5 user I expected much more from Adobe. Even Photoshop is two or three times as slow now (e.g. it takes about 20-30 seconds to simply create an empty 500x500 pixel image file and almost a full minute to load a 30x60 pixel single-layer gif). So far I have attempted to create 6 DVDs using Encore and after 3 weeks of effort have only succeeded in getting one of them onto a final disk -- and that one is kinda limping to work correctly in my DVD player. Three of those projects became so corrupted while working on them that I had to delete them completely and recreate them from scratch, only to find that I still couldn't get them to completion for one reason or another. Seriously disappointing.
