Encore CS4 - restoring my "Disc" tab?

I somehow accidentally closed the "Disc" tab in Encore CS4  - the tab that has the pie chart showing how much of the disc is used by the project so far, along with choices to check the project and build the DVD.
Can anyone tell me how to get that window back?  I looked under the "Windows" menu, which is where I logically expected it to be, but all it has is separate options for "Build" and "Check", but nothing for "Disc".
I really liked the layout of the "Disc" menu, and would really like to get it back.  Anywhere else I can look to find it?

That's all under the Build tab now.  And CS4 doesn't have a pie chart - it's just a bar graph.

  • Encore cs4 creates invalid disc image (iso file)

I have a video I edit in premiere cs4, exported an .mpg file that I import into encore to create a DVD. This works mostly fine (I have to delete the .xmp* file before importing to encore).
Today I edited the video, re-encoded the mpg file using quality 5 and 2 pass vbr, and added a slide show (about 6 photos) to the encore project. It also builds fine to a disc image (iso file). But when I try to burn the iso file using windows 7, it tells me the iso image is invalid. I tried imgburn and got an  error message like this:
    session 1 track 1 MODE1 .... 2054
    dvd format: MODE1 .... 2048
If I ask imgburn to continue it then says something about CSS and encryption, which I don't use, so I assume the iso file is too messed up.
I burned a DVD5 directly from encore, and it works in a dvd player.
Any idea why this invalid iso happens and whether there is a work-around?
Since cs4 is not the latest version, I assume there is no hope of bug fix?

There seem to be major problems in the disc creation process. I am struggling since several days now and I am not able to produce a working Blu-Ray Disk or iso image with Encore 5.5:
    - when producing Blu-Ray ISO images, you get an ISO that is recognized as DVD iso in all virtual drive programs. Therefore, you cann not burn them on a BD-R disc, also viewing them is not possible because it is a "DVD with blu-ray content".
    - when burning directly to disk, Encore does not close the sessing. This means, the Disk is not playable on all home Blue-Ray players. It was playable on my computer, but after closing the session manually the disc was a coaster.
    - when burning on a virtual burner (Virtual CD 10), the Blue-Ray plays ok on my computer, but I am NOT able to make a ISO image from this disk because some errors (unreadable blocks) on the disk are reported during creation and image creation stops.
    - from time to time (not reproduceable), Encore produces an additional AACS folder on the created Blu-Ray.
I am an experienced user and dont have any issues with other software solutions, but with Encore I was not able to get any usable results so far.

  • Encore CS4 Blu-Ray not completely compatible?

So I recently burned a BluRay with Encore CS4.  The disc plays fine on a Playstation 3, it plays fine using ArcSoft Total Media Theatre on the PC.  However, on another computer using Cyberlink's Power DVD software, the disc just plays to a black screen and won't do anything else.  On a Samsung BluRay player, the menu comes up, but none of the buttons are usable, and the player is up to date on firmware.
Now, this is a "simple" disc just having the one menu with a video background, and the buttons that link to video clips.  Nothing fancy.
I understand that BluRay players might need firmware updates (and the aforementioned Samsung, while indicating no updates available might still have a firmware issue), but I figured since I wasn't using any of the BluRay advanced features, that wouldn't be an issue.  But then I realized that whether I use the options or not, Encore may well be indicating the disc requires a certain revision of the BluRay spec to play, whether or not the features of that revision are used.
That lead me to wondering, what revision of the BluRay spec does Encore claim is required, and can you change that on a per-disc basis?  As in, change a setting for my project to indicate BluRay 1.5 is needed rather than 2.0 or something?  It still might not solve some of the issues, as again we're dependent on what the firmware/software does, but I imagine in some circumstances it could help compatibility.
    K.

But, what I'm describing isn't a problem with the media.  The players acknowledge this is a BDMV disc, but fail to play it properly.  The Cyberlink software shows a black screen, but shows that the menu is currently playing.  For the Samsung set top box, the menu is shown, but doesn't function properly.

  • Where's the Disc Tab?  Encore CS4

I just got CS4 and cannot find a way to add data to a disc. Where is the old disc tab hiding? Why did it get thrown out?

The "Build" tab, eh? Well, when I go to CS4, I'm sure I'll need to revisit this thread to refresh my memory. At least they did not rename it the "Share" tab, like Premiere Elements. That still seems so wrong for some reason.
FWIW, "Disc" tab worked fine for me. Seemed so highly logical.
Thanks, learned something new today, and it's still daylight in AZ!

  • Disc image file exported from Encore CS4 won't work

    Hello,
I have a problem concerning the export of a disc image file in Encore CS4. I recently upgraded to CS4 and wanted to continue my project which I started editing with CS3. While working with CS3 I already did image files from this project for burning and testing the DVD. Back then it worked with no problems.
However, since using the CS4 version Encore does the image without any problem, but I can't use the image file in any way afterwards. I mounted it with Daemon Tools as I did before, but the DVD won't play in any software DVD player I have installed (Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player, Nero Showtime) nor can I access the file structure over a file manager. Nevertheless NeroInfoTool and ImgBurn say there is a DVD in the virtual drive. Then I exported the DVD project into a folder and now I can see the files in the file manger but again no player will play it.
Has anyone experienced this before and is able to help? It would be very appreciated since I don't want to downgrade back to CS3 :-)
It's Encore CS4, Version 4.0.1.048 on a 2,8 GHz HT CPU, 2 GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 6800 UT, lots of HDD space, XP + SP3.
    Thank you,
    Chris...

    Hey,
thank you both. As I said no player accepts the project exported to a folder. It doesn't matter if I point the player to the video_ts.ifo or just the folder - it won't play. As a consequence I re-installed Encore CS3 in which exporting worked fine and guess what - the exported image and folder output doesn't work either. Since it worked before in CS3 it comes down to the conclusion that either I did some editing to the project that screwed the project or Encore CS4 did. Checking for mistakes in the project and previewing in inside CS4 everything seems fine. So might it be CS4 that ****** up the project file??? I mean it's full of strange bugs so it could easily be that. I even updated my Daemon Tools yesterday and it won't make a difference.
Or could it be something else I haven't considered yet? Any ideas? I just don't want to build the whole project again which might not even work if it's some other error. This is a desperate call for help
    Thanks,
    Chris...

  • Problems Burning in Disc in Encore CS4

    Hello all,
I just recently upgraded to Adobe Encore CS4 and I'm trying to burn a blu-ray disc but the program is giving me problems.
All of my video assets are .m2v movie clips, which includes the motion menus I am using, compressed to that format in Sorenson Squeeze.
The first time I tried to burn the disc I received an error before it even started to render the menus.  The error was Src\VideoFrameManipulators.cpp-563.  I did some searching and decided to import the quicktime movies of the menus and use the quicktimes instead of .m2v files.  When I tried to build the project again it got through rendering almost all the menus and then I received this error message Src\pp\\PPixHandleUtilities.cpp-114].
After that I tried transcoding each menu video separaretly and that did work, I got the same PPixHandleUtilities error again.  I tried re-importing the files, relinking the files, etc, nothing is working.  I'm at a loss.
I have burned a blu-ray disc already so I don't think it is the drive.
I'm running Windows Vista Business 64-bit as the operating system.
    Any thoughts?
    Kristin

I too am having problems burning data disks to dvd. While it appeared to burn without problems. It took over an hour sometimes 2 or 3 to burn the dvd which upon completion was not recognized in either my Dell or my Mac. I hooked up my external drive where my music is kept to my Mac and it appears to have burnt correctly readable by both machines and took about ten minutes to burn each dvd. So it appears the Windows version is majorly screwed.

  • "Encode Failed" whilst building disc in Encore CS4

    Hi folks,
I've built a Premiere Pro CS4 project which, after adding a menu in Encore CS4, I'm trying to output/"Build" a disc from Encore.  The project's assets comprise original AVCHD video from my Sony Handycam and, from these, some After Effects CS4 generated segments (which I first converted from AVCHD to MPEG2 HD using Free HD Converter V1.7).
Although I've previously produced SD DVDs from PPro2, I'm new to CS4, and working with HD video.
Q1 - having built a project from AVCHD video, is it possible in theory to export from Encore to MPEG2-DVD (PAL 16:9)
Q2 - if the answer to Q1 is "yes", do you have any idea why during the build disc process I receive an "Encode Failed" message within a matter of seconds (whilst using export setting MPEG2-DVD PAL High Quality 4Mb VBR 2 Pass in Widescreen 16:9)?
I'm using Windows 7 Professional 32-bit on a laptop with an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P9600 @ 2.66GHz, with 4.00 GB RAM.
    Thanks in anticipation!

  • Encore CS4's Slideshow component= WORTHLESS

    Hi,
When I create slideshows in Adobe Encore CS4 and then build them, they look "fine" when played on a computer DVD player.
However, when playing the authored DVD on an actual DVD player attached to a TV, the playback is cropped, images come out extremely dark, and each song flickers at the start of the slideshow.
I've done a lot more testing of building slideshows in Adobe Encore CS4, before I came to this realization:
ADOBE ENCORE CS4 IS FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR WAYS OFF FROM BEING READY FOR PRODUCTION USE FOR SLIDESHOWS. DO NOT USE ADOBE ENCORE CS4 FOR ANY SORT OF ACTUAL PRODUCTION USE FOR SLIDESHOWS.
I am extremely frustrated how obvious that there was absolutely no quality assurance testing with Adobe Encore CS4. When you use Adobe Encore CS4, the whole feel of using the software is that it was totally rushed out the door at about 55% complete.
    My top complaints:
-When importing multiple images to the Encore library, occasional images do not get imported at all(WTF???????????????)
-images that are imported to the Encore library occasionally LOSE THEIR ORIGINAL ASSET when saving, closing, then re-opening a project.
-Encore CS4 slows down literally, exponentially, as you add a lot of images to the library. At about 500 images of about 3-4 megs each, my Core 2 Quad with 6 gigs of ram slows to a crawl.
-when in the slow state, Adobe Encore CS4 crashes randomly (and this slow state is when most of the slideshow editing needs to get done)
    -authored playback is cropped
-authored playback comes out extremely dark on DVD players
-99 slide limit, which is overcome by dividing the slideshow into two slideshows, but.. there is a long and awkward pause when shifting between two slideshows during playback
Using Adobe Encore CS4 for slideshows is gauranteed to leave an extremely bad user experience and some loss of respect for Adobe.
I have no choice but to learn what other DVD slideshow building software is out there. So far, Nero, and even Windows Movie Maker, which comes free with windows seems better than Adobe Encore CS4, in terms of building slideshows.

I've been using Adobe Encore CS4 to author Blu-Ray discs with slideshows on my iMac.  I've found a solution that seems to work well.  But I don't use the Encore slideshow editor for this purpose.
When I import high-quality 16:9 JPEG photos directly into Encore and build a slideshow using the Encore slideshow editor, the results are terrible when viewed on a big-screen HDTV connected to a Blu-Ray player.  The colors seem off, and the resolution is horrible.  There are all sorts of jagged edges and other artifacts.  A slideshow on a standard-definition DVD built using iPhoto and iDVD looks much better than a "high-definition" Blu-Ray slideshow built using the Encore CS4 slideshow feature.
A better solution is to simply build the slideshow in iPhoto, cropping the individual photos to 16:9 (or using the 16:9 setting on your digital still camera, if it has one), and export the iPhoto slideshow as a high-definition QuickTime movie file (*.mov).  You will have to play around a bit to find the option in iPhoto that allows custom export settings, but once you find it you can encode the entire slideshow using the H.264 codec with full 1920 x 1080 resolution.  Then you can import the resulting *.mov file into Encore as an asset, then create a timeline for it.  You basically treat it like a movie in Encore.  The final result looks great on my 1080p TV.  Breathtaking, in fact.
Encore CS4 for Mac seems to have lots of bugs in it.  For example, I just downloaded the latest update yesterday (I think it was 4.0.1).  Now, whenever I try to build a Blu-Ray project, I get an error message, no matter what I do.  Even if I start a new project from scratch.  So I had to use Apple Time Machine to restore the previous version of Encore (4.0.0.258), which works fine.
Another bug is that you can't change the title of an HD menu in Encore.  Encore has a very limited number of HD menus.  If you want to change the title of an HD menu from the generic one provided ("Our Travel Diaries", for example) to your own title ("Our 2009 Summer Vacation", for example), you can't do it in Encore.  Well, maybe YOU can.  But I can't figure out how to do it.  So I export the menu to Photoshop Elements, change the text there, and re-import it into Encore.  You can change the titles of buttons directly in Encore.  But not the actual menu title.
Also, Encore has caused trouble for me when I try burning Blu-Ray rewritable discs.  So I simply use Encore to create a *.iso image file, then burn it using Roxio Toast 10 Titanium.
Anyway, with these various workarounds, I'm finally able to create high-quality Blu-Ray discs with movies and slideshows that look great on my 60-inch Sony SXRD 1080p TV.
It's a shame that somebody doesn't produce a simple interlocking suite of consumer-grade Mac-compatible tools that can be used for the entire HD workflow from camera to Blu-Ray disc, similar to the way in which iMovie, iPhoto, and iDVD work for standard-definition DVDs.  Apparently, the latest version of Adobe Premiere Elements for Windows does this sort of thing.  But there's nothing equivalent for the Mac.  And Apple still seems to be dragging its feet with regard to Blu-Ray.
Some people have expressed the opinion that it's OK for Encore CS4 to include a slideshow editor that's essentially useless.  I tend to disagree.  Any significant feature that gets added to a piece of software and that's advertised as being useful ought to work at least reasonably well.  But then my background is in the hardware industry, not the software industry.  In hardware, even a minor glitch can cost a company millions of dollars in lost revenue, recalls, loss of customer confidence, etc.  Software designers, by contrast, seem to be able to get away with a degree of sloppiness that would quickly bankrupt a company in the hardware world.
However, I'm at least grateful that by using Encore CS4 in conjunction with Final Cut Pro, Compressor, iPhoto, Photoshop Elements, and Toast, I'm able to produce a very nice Blu-Ray disc that provides jaw-dropping picture and sound quality for movies and slideshows.

  • Encore CS4 suddenly crashing on startup

I have been using Adobe Production Premium CS4 for several months now with mostly no problems... crash here and there but nothing major. While using Encore to author a Blu-Ray disc, the software crashed when I transitioned from Photoshop back to Encore. I was editing a menu in Photoshop like I have done millions of times before, with minimal crashes. I shutdown and walked away for the day. When I came back the next day and started Encore it immediately gave me a crash report screen, and has given me a crash report screen every time since, it does not even make it to the splash screen. I have tried the OpenGL solution, no good. Tried the Version Cue startup solution, no good. Latest video drivers, audio drivers, etc, etc. Tried the user settings folder removal solution, no good. Even tried re-installing the entire suite, no good.
This makes no sense to me. I have successfully used Encore CS4 to master close to 20 DVDs since the release. There were no changes to the system from one day to the next. Any ideas?

CPU: Dual Processors - Intel Xeon 3.2 GHz
GPU: Nvidia Quadro FX 3400/4400 256 Mb

Did this by any chance start to happen after updating via the Adobe Updater to 4.0.1? This can - and does unless turned firmly off in preferences - run in the background.
There have been issues with the updated version not playing nice with certain NVidia cards.

As a test, tell Encore to create an ISO on your hard drive, then use the free http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download to write to disc
If that works, the problem is some other software that is "hijacking" your burner so Encore can't properly "talk" to it to burn

  • Blu-ray says capacity too big when burning DVD Rom Folder Encore CS4

I have tried 3 times now to burn a Blu-ray Image file with a DVD rom Content Folder. The Blu-ray Image size is 45.90gb and the content folder is 1.6gb. The disk is a Sony DL 50gb Blu-ray. I have not tried to burn direct to disk because cost of Blu-rays. I am using Encore CS4. Is it that you cannot make an image file with DVD-rom for DL Blu-rays. Is there a number preset by Adobe for image file size for DL Blu-ray. Please help

45.90 GB on your hard drive and 1.6 GB on your hard drive add up to 47.60 GB.
In computer GB, (47.60 x 2^30) that's over 51 billion bytes. Sony and other blank media manufacturers report the capacity of their blank discs in normal GB (50 x 10^9), or 50 billion bytes.
Your project is too big to fit on the blank media that you have.

  • Encore Cs4 blu_ray authoring

Hello all I would like to share with all good people around my experience with Encore cs4. So far had to dig around and follow some hints within encore help and solved the following problems:
1- Now I can import DTS in the Blu-ray timeline project and build was successful.
2- Blu-ray subtitles issues generated error  "Graphics ....Subtile set too close etc "  also solved : Had to secure a gap of minimum
2 Frames between each subtitle - (actually I prefer to  work on a gap of  4 frames to be on the safe side).
Now my headache is as follows maybe someone can help:
Project consists of a H264 1920x1080 HD timelime of around 3h.22 with menus motion menus and all the good stuff u can get out this software
and I am using 3 subtitles tracks English,French and German:
1- when linking the subtitles menu buttons respectively for each 3 subtitles tracks as follows : speficy link then the main timeline and the subtitle track number - during playback when I go to the subtitle menu to change from one subtitle to another instead of resuming it starts all over again from the very beginning of the movie.
2- Tried to animate my scenes selection menus- built took nearly 1 day and a half  almost 2 days - compared to  25 minutes for a blu-ray folder of 25 GB or 1h 10min when burning directly to blu-ray disc with no  scenes  selection animation.
Hope someone can help and sure I am ready to share with you and extend any help needed .

    Hello again John ,
    Linkinking Subtitles tracks.
After linking each button this time to itself and specified the track language number as recommended.. during playback I accessed the subtitle menu through the Pop Up menu and there selected  the button to switch to another track, and I can see that it has been activated since the highlight changes to Yellow ,then I scrolled down in the same menu to the "Resume" button and selected it - when activated, the "Resume" button loses its assigned function apparently and the disc exits as if I pressed the STOP button on my remote control. I was really puzzled towards this behaviour so I started the disc again, played back the movie and through the Pop Up menu accessed the same subtitle menu and -This time-  I did not touch the Subs. tracks buttons (1-2-3) but instead scrolled directly to the "Resume" Button and activated it.. Guess what .. Playback resumed from where I left. This means that the moment you activate any other button prior to the Resume button  it loses its functionality !
Now when I link the subs.tracks to the movie timeline intead of the subtitle menu, the moment I access the subs menu through the Pop Up menu and activate any of the desired language subs buttons tracks, playback of the movie Resumes at once( no need for the resume button) but... from the very beginning and with the new assigned language track.
Like you are witnessing this is very Odd
Now I was told  that the subtitles linking  do work on DVD's.. so I was curious and I looked for an old DVD project I had and linked each button to itself in the subtitle menu( same way as I did for the Blu-ray project) while specifying the right language track. I burnt the project to a DVD  and watched it also on my Ps3 ,but as DVD - During playback I accessed the Main menu from the remote Control "Menu Button" and there I again from setup went to the subtitle menu and switched from the english sub track to the german track and scrolled down to the "Resume" button in the same Subtitle menu and selected it- Preview resumed from where I left and track changed to german subtitle . Now really I am at a loss:)
Now here are my observations comparing Blu-Ray build to DVD build as far as subtitles issues, in general, are concerned.
1- Although ,as you well know, each project has a default subtitle and audio track that  initially is active the moment you insert your Media (blu-ray or DVD). On a normal DVD when you hit the "Play Movie" button in the Main menu, movie starts and the default subtitle is active . On a blu-ray Disc the default subtitle track is not active - and playback has no subtitle at all unless you select subtitle Button on your remote and select a language track .
2- On a DVD each subtitle track displays its language on the screen when you use the "subtitle " remote control button; i.e. English ,French or whatever etcc.. are dispayed on the screen. On a Blu-ray DISC all languages become English ! :)
3- Adobe useful Help recommends and insists on a Gap of 2 frames between each subtitle for Blu-Ray projects. Well not even 6 frames are enough you need a minimum of 8 frames gap between each subtitle which makes short subtitle lines  duration very short - the moment they appear they disappear very fast.
It is a  real Pitty because Encore Cs4 is a wonderful application .Unlike other complains that I randomly witness in the forum I never Had a problem with DTS audio or AC3 or H264 or MPEG or any other error like build error or audio error and all the streams I use are High Def 1920 x1080 always show on the project panel as : dont transcode for blu-ray settings . everything is great but this tiny small issue that I could not so far master !
    regards

  • Having tbl making dvd-encore cs4,win 7,64bit

looked on forum for win 7 encore cs4  Win 7 troubles and found 2, turn off power saver and download some Roxie file. Did both but still freezes, not responding and have to end session, one at 12 min left, and now 2 min left. Also can't eject dvd, have to turn off computer.  This is a SD dvd, 90 mins total time, the 1st encore project with new i7 computer, --last night it did burn it but the last 10 mins weren't there. Transcode is automatic. Any ideas--I'll see if I can work on this project in my XP computer, never had any tbl with XP....

Thanks for the reply, I will look into your ideas. I don't have screen saver on and no Nero, iTunes was downloaded with Quicktime and I beleive Win7 uses Roxio, I will check these out.
I put the hard drive docking station back on the XP windows quad core computer, the project was edited on this machine.
Encore burned the dvd  complete EXCEPT now no sound, only the menu sound. When I play the timeline there's no sound. This seems to happen when I make a change in PPRO and then go back to Encore. I then export the audio from PPRO and bring it into Encore as an asset, drop it on audio 2 and then all is fine. I did that just now and still hear no audio. I've been using Encore for a year and no troubles.  Glad I make the SD dvds 1st before the HD so I don't waste blu ray discs.
My win7 computer is a Dell with Win7 Ultimate, 12 GB ram, i7 920 processor, 1TB C drive and I use external drives to edit on in a docking bay with esata cable.
