Encore CS4, Windows 7 (beta) + Blu-ray = blam!

Anyone else testing on Windows 7 (beta) seen this? On Win7, I've had no issues with Encore through 3 DVD projects, and rendering with After Effects to both MPEG-2 (DVD) and H-264 (Blu-ray 1280x720) has been fast (at least 3x faster than Encore on Vista), but the instant I choose "Blu-ray" from the Build menu, or import a H.264 asset, everything in Windows 7 freezes and I have to do a hard reboot. It's the only Windows 7 major issue I've had so far.
I've been able to reliable replicate this at least 4 times - start Windows 7 64-bit, open Encore CS4 (fully updated), create a brand new Blu-ray project, and (since the first screen I see says "Build DVD") change the Build drop-down to DVD and - oops, the mouse is frozen, the CPU's pretty much stopped... no, it IS stopped or in some loop or something, but Windows is frozen.
I'm not expecting Adobe support, but hopefully they can remedy this in the future and - a warning - close all your apps before you try this on your machine. If I switch over to Vista Ultimate 32-bit, I can do the whole blu-ray project through to burning with no errors (I still prefer to transcode in AE, Encore is a slug), but I can't get past that drop-down on Windows 7. Odd.
My specs: 8GB RAM, Q6600, oodles of HD space, CS4 Master Collection, all latest revs and patches.

You need to do following things to get it working -
1.     Install the new pxhlp driver from http://kb.roxio.com/search.aspx?URL=/content/kb/General%20Information/000070GN&PARAMS=
2.      Turn off the sleep mode off in Windows 7.
Steps to turn off the sleep mode -
1. Go to control panel
2. Click on system and security
3. click on power option
4. click on change plan settings for Power saver
5. Set the "Put the computer to sleep" value to "Never"

  • Subtitle problems with Encore CS4 and BD/Blu-ray -- here is a solution!

Do you have problems with subtitles: for example they vanish completely after doing fast forward or turn them off and on again. Then here you can find one possible solution.
I am using Windows Vista 32bit. Thus Encore CS4 is the last version which I can use. Because Adobe will never provide a solution for this version, I was looking for another solution.
At least I found a workaround for my subtitle problems.
Now I am doing the following steps:
    1. Create the blu-ray disk in a folder without subtitles
    2. Create the subtitles with a program like "subtitle workshop"
    3. Save the subtitles in the .srt format.
    4. Use the program SubConverter Express v1.5.0 to convert the subtitles in the .sup format. Here you must choose a suitable font & font size.
    5. Add the .sup to the blu-ray folder structure with the program BDFix Express v1.7.3. When doing that, you can also choose the language i.g. "deu" for german. You will find a detailed description in the forum on www.defsoft.com. It is very easy to understand.
    6. BDFix will create a new folder with all necessary files to burn a blu-ray disk. Nothing changes in comparison to the folder which was createt by Encore except that subtitles were added.
    7. You can burn this folder with a tool like imgburn.
With this workaround you will have the following advantages:
    1. It seems that these subtitles were added in a blu-ray specification conform way. Fast forward/backward, switching on/off, chapter jump still work perfectly.
    2. The subtitle fonts are rendered in a much more smooth way than Encore does.
    3. The 5 frames gap between subtitles is not longer necessary.
    4. This solution ist quite fast (about 20 minutes for a 25 GByte disc).
    5. You can use these programs also for other blu-rays to add or remove subtitles.
    6. You do not need Encore to add/change or remove subtitles. You can do that also years later. You only need the burned blu-ray disc.
To be honest, there is one disadvantage:
    - The two programs (SubConverter & BDFix) cost about 200 US Dollar. But to cure my nerves that was worth it.
Hint: You can do a first test with the freeware versions. But there are two limitations. SubConverter can only import 30 subtitle lines and BDFix will only create 3 minutes of subtitles.
    Greetings,
    Ralf

FLV and F4V use different codecs for Flash video. H.264 in case of F4V and On2 VP6 for FLV. There's a difference of bitrate between different quality presets. You can check the bitrates of files generated using some tool. Your video might be very static to feel the different be the two quality settings.
F4V is the new format and need a newer version of Flash Player. Please update your Flash player and try again to play the F4V files.
Playstream doesnt support F4V format. You can only export FLV files to Playstream.
It might also be an issue of low bandwidth while playing a streaming video. Are you playing is locally or from a web server.

  • Anyone using Encore to burn to Blu Ray from FCP?

Given that there's no way to burn a "real" HD DVD, is anyone exporting their FCP movies to Adobe Encore and burning to Blu Ray? If so, have you had any success?

I'm yet to Author a BluRay w/ Encore using Media from FCP... but I do Author SD DVD's by exporting DV QT's from FCP then importing and encoding w/ Encore.
Seems like you'd be able to do the same by exporting an HD QT w/ a CODEC that's also on your PC.

  • Does Encore plan on adding Blu-ray CMF exports for replication

Currently, Encore does not offer Blu-ray CMF within the Build options.  Is there any work being invested to update Encore to allow the creation of CMF for replication in the future?

CS6 is the final Encore, see #8 here for why http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1337952?tstart=0 - to add to what Stan said

  • Encore cs 5.1 blu ray chapter not working.....

I've a tone of problems with this version.  Encore showing error codes 14, 25.....Some of the chapters working fine but others not. I've tried several ways to solve the issues but no hope. It seems you need full knowledge of blu ray theories to burn a blu ray!!!!

I'm using windows 7 on laptop with i7 processor and nvidia GTS 360M display, External 1 TB HDD through SATA cable.
Original shot was on HDV 60i with multiple Sony cameras and did the multicam edit. Converted to H264 with PCM audio with premiere CS 5.5, used VBR 2 pass everthing else left as defaut settings. Rendering took almost 21 hrs to generate  2:18 hr. video .m4v and .wav files (file size 17.7 gb).
When I bring these videos as timeline(took ~20min to load files.) into the Encore with all the menus(created in photoshop with buttons and res. 1440 X 1080 to match with other assets ), some of the chapters not working on the preview window and Encore transcoded the whole files took another ~10 hrs!
Is there any better and faster workflow to complete the project ?
note: I used the cineform avi for multicam editing in premiere pro with the same settings (HDV 29.97).
Okay, we are starting to make progress, but why are you shooting in HDV? That is a lossy system using non-sqyuare pixels so the whole thing is effectively getting converted. No wonder it took 21 hours and it looks to me as if you exported to the wrong settings - .m4v is regular .264, not BluRay. See Stan's suggestion.
We still need to see the exact error messages - it looks likely you are out of HDD space. Remember that Premiere & Encore use 32-bit float audio temp files, and the media cache databases will be enormous.....how much HDD free is remaining?

  • CS4 for burning Blu-rays?

I'm thinking about upgrading from CS3 to CS4 and was wondering if the Encore CS4 was more reliable for burning blu-rays than CS3. I have been receiving all sorts of errors that have been driving me nuts.
I'm using a Matrox Axio LE with windows XP.

Of course a single movie would be broken up to compress in smaller parts. It's called segmented processing. It's what Qmaster does when you set up a distributed processing network. But you need more than one computer to make it worth while, and they have to be networked on, minimum, a gigabit network, but preferably on a faster Fibre network.
The problem that comes with job segmenting is if you use a variable bit rate, because the bit rate information isn't shared between/amongst the nodes. If you use a CBR, you're all set, but like I said, it won't matter unless you have more than one computer, and you're limited by the slowest computer in the chain, as well as the network.
If you use less than a gigabit connection, the time it takes to transfer the information to and from the cluster controller, and then reconstitute the final video is more than the time it would take to just do it on a single computer.

  • Export from Premiere to Encore to create a Blu-ray

    Hi!
I've imported in Encore CS4 an HDV footage that I've edited in Premiere CS4. The footage was exported using Blu-ray H264 settings. I inserted the video and audio file into the project, I burned fine the Blu-ray, but the final result was that the entire footage was interlaced, so not "cinema-like". Is there a way to deinterlace my footage in Premiere or Encore so that the final Blu-ray is in progressive format? I've tried Red Giant Frames, but it seemes that Encore doens't mind of my settings and re-encode everything as he wants.
Maybe I wasn't so clear, so sorry for my english, but I'm italian. Thanks for the answers. Bye!

Premiere Pro CS4.01 has a new sequence and export option: Maximum Render Quality. It provides good quality deinterlacing and scaling from inside of Premiere. There are ways to deinterlace the footage external to Premiere that produce higher quality results, but that's a whole different workflow with several different tools.
Make sure to select Max Render Quality in your sequence settings, and then make sure that the Adobe Media Encoder has the same setting checked. (Look in the flyout/wing menu of the codec settings section of the AME.)
Be prepared for long render times.
You don't want to deinterlace in Premiere without Maximum Render Quality selected - your exported video will lose half of its resolution and will look terrible.

  • Mainconcept Mpeg Pro HD and Encore transcode problems with blu-ray

I wanted to use premiere pro to edit my HDV files and import them into Encore to produce Blu-ray discs without transcoding. I have tried the Mainconcept Mpeg Pro HD plugin 3.1 as this should provide smart transconding of the edited file. I have been having difficulty in exporting from Premiere a file which will import into Encore and to flag it as don't transcode for blu-ray.
I have only been able to get Encore to not transcode if the file is demultiplexed into seperate video and audio files and that the video file must be a program stream. Unfortunatly I can only get Mpeg Pro to export a transport stream and I have to multiplex it onto a program stream for Encore.
Is there a way to export from Mpeg Pro with smart transcoding a file which will not be transcoded by Encore.
    Regards Trevor

If I choose the default BR disc export settings from the MainConcept MPEGPro export module, the file is automatically set to Multiplexing:None.
Is that what you are trying to do?
Another method to try is to make sure that the audio settings in a program stream from MPEGPro match the BR audio transcoding settings in Encore. If the audio is mismatched, then the whole file will be re-transcoded in Encore.

  • MPEG -2 Blu-Ray more accurate file size reading in Encore than H.264 Blu-Ray???

    Hi,
I just read on Kenstone.com that if you encode a MPEG-2 Blu-Ray instead of an H.264 Blu-Ray, Encore will give you a much closer and more accurate file size reading.
    Is this true?
    Encore CS 5.1

    They are all guesses anyway.
H264 will get you more on the disc, as it is a much more efficient codec. Same quality in MPEG-2 will be twice the size, roughly.

  • Encore freezes when tyrying Blue Ray project

I am doing my first Blu Ray burn and am having some issues....
I have my footage and am using Dynamik Link to send to Encore.......when the Encore options come up, here is what I choose.
I switch it to Blue Ray....change the dimension to 1920 x 1080 as that is what my video's were shot in
I leave it as MPEG 2 and leave the frame rate at 29.97
I don't touch the advance settings which are currently at Transcoding 15.0 MBPS.................Audio transcoding Dolyb Digital
then it doesn't let me change the player....Adobe player
I click OK and it brings my project into Encore.......the only thing is it starts on the build page and has it set to DVD saying i've used 3.78 gig.....i have an hour of footage, so this can't be right.  I go to change it to Blu Ray on the build and it freezes everything on my computer.
I've got a decent set up.....plenty of space and power.  Any thoughts?   I need this for mothers day.  :]

    Thanks!

  • Encore CS4/Windows 7 64-bit--When trying to "Build" Encore quits.

After clicking Build, new window opens showing a double bar for burning to DVD. Almost immediately I get error message from Adobe saying Encore has quit, wanting to send Adobe engineers details.
Updated Roxio-Sonic DVD Drivers: "pxengine4_18_16a.exe", Encore still Crashes.
    Have tried defrag/restarts....Nothing works.
How do I get Encore to Build to a DVD?? Or What is going on with W7 64-bit and Adobe.

    Giorgio,
Thanks for the taking the time to respond. Nothing suggested works.
You suggested: build an image of your author or build the DVD in your HD?
I tried both and still get "Program Quits" window, with Encore shutting down without any error message.
    You suggested:  disk problem.
I tried different Sony, and then Verbatim disks. Same problem.
    Additional Project Info:
    Time Line: 1:18:07
    Preferences: Playback Quality: Automatic.
Disc Info: free space thermometer: Blue all the way across.
4.7 GB Used.  3.309 MB free.
Same problem also exists with Premier Pro CS4. PPr will just quit for no reason that is detectable/No error message. I do frequent saves so have not lost anything in PPr, just have to restart program. The problem with PPr is not consistant, whereas with Encore it happens every time when attempting to "Build". I suspect fault is within Encore/PPr  and Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit and latest updates from Microsoft. Both programs ran without problems before. By the way. I tried to update PPr & Encore, and I could not, as I have latest versions.
By the way....You are writing from Italy? Where? My grandparents came to New York from Italy around 1907.
    Thanks for your effort,

  • Encore is Reporting incorrect Blu-Ray Project size/length

    Hello,
I've exported a 45 minute Premiere project into mpeg-2 bluray, and the file is about 10 gb. When bringing into encore and creating a timeline, the video is correct, but audio track is about 15 times longer than the video, and reported project size is 215gb.
I can play the file correctly in media player and premiere - any ideas?
    Thanks a million,
    Jonathan

    Jonathan,
You've covered a lot of ground since my last post!
You should be able to see the issue in Pr - I can.
Try playing the H.264 file in either Quicktime player (if you have it installed) or KMPlayer (my favorite "free" player).  If you don't see artifacts there, then the MC keyframe issue is not the problem.
You should try CBR and any other parameter variations you can think of - that's what I'm doing here.  In my tests, moving the keyframes closer together just results in more frequent artifacts.  But that can be a good thing when you're testing.   I'm still researching this issue.
For your tests, make sure you are using unique file names each and every time you export from Pr; otherwise En will get very fussy and start giving you errors.
Also, while testing different file lengths and encoding schemes, you should be using a dedicated test project in En.  Don't go anywhere near your real project.
Please heed Jon's advice and use a BD-RE for all of your test burns to disc.  As he does, I test disc images by mounting them with SlySoft's VirtualCloneDrive (also free).
What is your source material in Pr?  Is it some form of 24p or 24pa HDV?  Is it any form of 24p?  If so, make sure it's interpreted correctly in Pr, and then make sure that En interprets the MPEG2 output from Pr correctly.
