Encore CS5 freezes as I build a DVD

I'm attempting to burn a DVD on a Dell Optiplex 755 using Encore CS5 that was recently installed on a Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit OS with 4 GB of RAM.    The project will start to build the DVD but then freeze up and give me (Not Responding).   I've checked the event viewer and was unable to find any events in there and there are no error messages displaying on the screen.   Please HELP!!!

  • ENCORE CS5 'FREEZES' WHEN TRANSCODING

I have built a project (3.75 minutes) in PremierePpro CS5, consisting of AVCHD, stills, and audio tracks. It plays correctly in that application. I then use 'dynamic link' to send to Encore  CS5 - that seems Ok. However, when building (for DVD) the project (and other similar) appear to get about 3/4 way through (according to the progress bar) then 'freeze'. On cancelling, I get the message 'encore not responsing', followed by 'premiere pro not responding'. Ive tried other methods of getting the project into Encore, but the results are the same.
    Any ideas?

I'm getting a similar lock up of Encore CS5 when building a DVD.
The source has already been rendered in PP using the AME MPEG DVD settings that follow the source material (24p DV).
It locks up during the same process each time. The DVD spins up to speed as if it is writing but the progress bar stops about 10% and never moves. I can't cancel the process (it asks if I want to cancel but nothing happens). I can't eject the disk. It continues to spin even through a restart (but I can eject at this point). Windows continues to function fine throughout (for other things).
The resulting DVD has only about 10 seconds of the opening menu but then locks up (so nothing past that ever got written).  Maybe there's a problem with the menu video or audio?  I'm using the NTSC wedding monogram menu with a 16 bit 44.1khz wav file for audio.
Note: Building to an ISO file instead of direct to DVD works fine. I then use imgburn to make the DVD. I'd just prefer it worked without the extra step.

  • Encore CS5 freezes when starting to Burn project

    Hi,
My CS5 Encore works fine until I "Build" or "Burn" a project. It prepares the files successfully for burning but as soon as it physically starts to burn to disc, it only goes up to 7.82MB exactly everytime and then it never finishes the burning. The DVD continues to spin but nothing happens and then I have to restart my PC (Windows 7). I've tried to run Encore as Administrator but it doesn't work.
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!

  • Encore CS5 freezes on "initiating transcoding" during startup

At the moment I am a very frustrated Encore CS5 user.  Help.
I cannot get Encore to open.  The program will start and when it gets to "initiating transcoding" it will become non responsive and the only way to stop it is to turn the power off on the computer.
I previously ran CS4 for at least a year on the same computer with no issues.  I upgraded to CS5 in early september and was able to successfully burn at least 2 projects. All other CS5 components work fine EXCEPT Encore.   This latest behavior seems to have started about two weeks ago.
    I've done the following
1- an earlier post suggested upgrading a roxio driver.  Did that - no change.
2-I've followed most of the simpler suggestions on the "Troubleshoot system errors and freezes | Adobe software on Windows (cpsid_82252) - including trying to wipe preferences (couldn't figure out how to do that on Encore - since it won't open!), creating a new administrative profile and updating every driver I could think of.  I did not yet try the more involved strategies such as selective startup.
3-I completely uninstalled CS4, Reinstalled CS5 and updated.  Encore opened once and will not open again.
Oh and I also called Adobe support - waited on hold for over an hour to speak to someone on a very lousy, almost inaudible connection only to be referred to the same document I'd already read on my own. I was told I could pay for support (which seems ludicrous given that the program won't even open and is brand new!) and was even willing to do that, but the support tech seemed to imply I should try uninstalling cs4 first.
So now I'm back at square one.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    9 gb ram

with two 500gb drives and an external raid Terra.

You can try one more thing.
    Just enable your drive
try with other software to burn a small file(nero or any other software)
if it works, Install the roxio drivers from

  • Encore CS5 freezes opening project

I am running Production Premium CS4 and CS5 on Vista Business 32-bit.
I can't use the Dynamic Link in Encore CS5 as I don't have After Effect CS5 or Premiere Pro CS5 installed so I've created a new project in Encore CS4, imported footage from an After Effects project and saved the project. I then try to open the project in Encore CS5 and it freezes at 13% of the 'opening project' popup box every time.
Can anyone suggest how I might resolve this problem? Thanks.

Just did a search for this problem as my progam also started to hang all of a sudden - at 13% while opening.
I figured it might have been something to do with my clearing out the massive Adobe cache last night. (Useful to do if you suddenly find that you're missing hard drive space and it's not the shadow files. Look in hidden file AppData Adobe Common....)
Anyway, after reading this post, I opened the Premiere Pro file that was used to create the film file originally (even though I never exported this file directly to Encore. I used Media Encoder first.)
As soon as the file loaded in Premiere, the Encore problem resolved. (I had tried it several times before with no luck.)
I didn't need to go back into the Cache folder or rename anything.

  • Encore CS5 freezes when building DVD

    Hi!
Just spent lots of money on CS5 and got lots of problems. Cannot build DVD at all. Even 50 sec. HDV, DSLR or any kind. Encore becomes frozen after few min of transcoding.
    dual xeon
    Nvidia quadro 4800
    12 gb ram
RAID 0   2 T plus multiple single drives.
Matrox mini, I have installed just the card but not the software since it is not working with  CS5.
My previous versions of CS3 and CS4 worked fine. I would say that CS4 was much more stable.
    Any comments?
    Thank you in advance.
    Michael

I may have had a breakthrough in that, after removing several media converter apps, I now seem to have dependable DVD production. I thrashed around and removed a few things before I checked again, but my suspicion is that ffmpeg might be the culprit, (but I don't have time to reinstall it to verify that notion now).
I'm happy if that fixes the problem, but still can't help but feel that it's a program flaw if its able to zone out so silently, without an error message, or even reporting that it's not responding, (but just perpetually idling). That was a frustrating and erie problem that I hope can a least be improved on to the point of crashing with some kind of diagnostic if not surmounting whatever the conflict is. So far, 4 DVDs without a hitch. Yea.

  • Why is Encore 5.1 AUTO mode building files just a bit too large for DVDs?

I've been doing the same videos for a few years using Encore 1.5 and more recently Encore 5.1 (with Premiere 5.5).  The videos are typically football games with short 2-25 secs of motion menus.  If I put two games per DVD, the total running time has been up to 2 hours total per game.  I've made dozens of these with Premier writing AVI files (standard 720x480 vide) and writing in Encore 1.5 using auto settings.  With Premiere CS4 I started using the dynamic link to Encore CS4 and still ran beautiful DVDs on auto transcoding.
Now, when using the same standard video files in Premiers 5.5, and using dynamic link to Encore 5.1, on auto transcode settings, the image files or transcode files (depending on how I order the build) keep coming out 150 - 300 MBs too large for the DVDs (typically Tayo-Yuden or Verbatim burning to Plextor/Pioneer drives). (Windows-7-X64 Intel D975XBX2 MB.)
To see if I was going nuts, I recently saved a job as two AVI files (same length as the sequences sent through dynamic link to Encore CS5.1) and did the same DVD setup in Encore CS4 but importing the AVI files as timelines.  The chapter points didn't convert for Encore CS4 so I had to install manually. The end result, though, was a DVD image that worked fine.
So I then went to the Encore CS5 build window and set the DVD size to manual, dropping down from 4.7GBs to 4.25.  The result fit, but then left too much free space (though the vids still looked OK).
I know by other discussions that others are having issues with Encore CS5.1 - or maybe it is related to Premiere 5.5 sequences.  Recently burned a set with 22 secs motion menu and 1.4 hours of video and had no problems on auto.  This leads me to believe either that Encore is underestimating the transcode sizes or there is a problem with writing DVDs at or near two hours in length.
    Anybody have answers, suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Doug A

    Thanks, Giorgio.
I do you imgburn quite a bit and even the new version 2.5.6.0 which allows for truncating and overburning wouldn't write to either the Plextor burners or the Pioneer 205 (Blu-Ray in DVD mode).
I just ran another image build setting the disc size (for the burn) at 4.5GBs rather than the automatic 4.7GBs.  This helped and gave me a final image size of 4.33GBs - still not large enough to maximize the disc and the compressed code for better quality, but in this case, a tradeoff for just getting the job done.
I hope Adobe updates a fix for this problem, if indeed, it turns out to be a bug.  Also, while I'm on the the bandwagon, the motion previews in Encore 5.1 do seem to preview in very low res.  I'll need to check to see if there is a setting for this, but I've not experienced it before 5.1.
    Regards,
    Doug A

  • ENCORE CS5.5: Audio Conforming Is Eating Up My Hard Drive

Hi guys. I am using Adobe Encore CS5.5 (Windows 7) for a DVD project. My project is pretty much a series of audio files synch with .PSD images. In other words, I do not use real video. Rather, I Use Images wity audio running in the bagground of the timelines.
Encore keeps conforming (non-stop) the audio files of my project, and it's eating up my hard drive space at lightning speed, say 537GB of free space in like 30 mins or so.
After much research, I found that the Media Cache Files Folder is being loaded with replicas of my audio files with the following extensions .ac3 48000.cfa and .ac3 48000.pek
I use seperate hard drives for both my C: drive (for software) and D: (for my project files files). As I stated above, I have plenty of room in my C drive, but Encore keeps eating up the free space, this, of course, while I have my project running.
I resaved the project with a different name. I even re-installed Encore, and the result is the same: Audio keeps conforming and the Media Cache Folder is loaded. When I empty this folder, I get my HD space back, but the process keeps on going. For those who do not know, the Media Cache Folder can be accessed in Encore from Edit--> Preferences-->General -->Media: Media Cache Files --> Browse or directly from C:/Users/Username/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Common/Media Files, where "Username" is your Computer's User Account name.
This is by Far the most annoying software glitch I have ever seen in my life. I am so frustrated. My project is quite complex and I don't want to start all over again.  Any help or insight will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your reply.
I have 6 timelines. The total program length, as shown in the build tab, is about 3GB used. And it's a DVD project, not BD.
I use MP3 files and I can see the audio keeps conforming from the Progress tab. There's a Stop button, but it's grayed out, so I can't stop it. The setting I am using to transcode is a3c as you mentioned.
The funny thing is that I even deleted the project's audio files from the timelines and Project Assets as well. At this point the audio files don't even exist in my project, and yet the Progress tab shows the audio keeps conforming and my hard drive keeps being swallowed by this monster. That's driving me Nuts!
Originally, and of course, the audio was Untranscoded. I performed the transcoding and yes, PSD images are brought directly as asssets into Encore. I probably should have done this from Premiere, but a) I have never used Premiere, and b) I was just learning how to use Encore by watching some video tutorials.
The thing is that my project was complete and everything was set, including audio conforming. I even outputed a disk image, which I then burned into a DVD. At the time I did this my project was still somewhat small as I just wanted to test the whole process with just a few files. The thing is that at this point I didn't realize what was happening in the background with my hard drive's free space until I later got a Windows warning message of low disk space. And that's when the saga began for me.
Once again, thanks for your help.

  • Encore CS5 has started freezing on "Preparing project for build..." in disk burn attempt

After routinely burning DVDs with Encore CS5, the program has started freezing after I choose my settings and click "BUILD" on a window that reads, "Preparing project for build..."
I checked for solutions online and read about problems with Quicktime versions after 7.5.5.  So I uninstalled Quicktime and installed the 7.5.5 version.  Still had problem.
I reinstalled Encore.  Still had problem.
Further research suggested I install the Roxio patch
PX Engine 4.18.16a   I installed the patch.  Still had problem.

Luckily, I also have Encore loaded as a part of the CS5 suite on a laptop computer, so I transfered the project files to the laptop, which burned the program without a problem.  This tells me the problem is with the program on my desktop and now with the project files.

I'd appreciate any suggestions about how to get my desktop to again burn DVDs in encore.
Message was edited by: Dan 101 Just realized that when I reinstalled Encore, I got a message that instructed me to shut down two processes. One was related to Encore, the other was something like dynamiclink.exe. I couldn't find any such process running when I checked the Task Manager, so I couldn't shut it down before I continued with the installation.  Could this be related to the issue?

I am not using any quicktime files.  I started with 1920 x 1080p avi files to build a number of Permiere projects (one for each chapter of a 50 minute DVD, then converted these segments into H.264 files, (with an .mp4 extension) and built a master Premiere project.  I used H.264 files because it seemed the best option to keep the quality as high as possible before converting to m2v files.  Then I converted the master Premiere project into  m2v and wav files which are being used by Encore.  Should I convert the individual projects into another format (rather than H.264) to build the master project?  Does Encore look at the files converted to m2v from  mp4 as Quicktime files?  Could I avoid this by converting to Microsoft AVI or Uncompressed Microsoft AVI to buld my master project?  I didn't built the entire project into one master premiere project from the start because I was concerned it would be too complex with all the elements and tracks.
Now I can work with Encore and burn files, but the Encore program routinely freezes after I burn a disk.  The Quicktime thing is a puzzle, especially because I stopped getting the freeze when attempting to burn disks after I reinstalled Quicktime 7.6.5. I was trying a number of things and kept a log.  Now I'm trying to figure out why the program freezes after a disk has burned. I turned off Windows DVD Maker, Windows Media Center, and Windows Media Player, rebooted and turned the features on again, but that didn't seem to have an impact.  Also, when I attempt to make changes to a subtitle track, I see the changes in the subtitle track, but they don't appear in the burned disk -- unless I delete a subtitle and recreate it.
Does the Roxio PX engine have any bearing on this?

  • DVD not having full timeline from Encore CS5, but states it burned all

I have searched the forums here and have not found anything that addresses my issue, so I thought I would ask. I will be as detailed as possible, so please bear with me.
I am recording high school football games using a Sony HDR-FX1 camcorder using MiniDV tapes. I am shooting in 1440X1080 resolution. I am doing my editing and such on a Windows 7 64-bit computer that has an i5 - 750 processor, 12GB DDR3 RAM, ASUS P7P55D-E Pro motherboard, and a 320 GB HDD. I have Master Collection CS5 installed, and am primarily using Premiere Pro and Encore for this. I edit the footage and include chapter markers for each Quarter of the game, and then export it to build the DVD in Encore. I also edit up a Main Menu sequence that is basically highlights, which I will put buttons on once in Encore. Once the Encore project is built, I check the project to be certain there are no errors and double check the chapter markers are where they should be, etc. Everything is exactly how I want it to be. My DVD file size is 7.55GB and I am burning to a dual-layer DVD. I'm currently using Optical Quantum 8.5GB DVD+R DL blank media which has a speed of 8X. I watch the process take place, which takes about 20-30 minutes and the window states it burned all 7.55GBs of information. But when I test out the DVD, the file size is only 7.05 GB, not the 7.55GB it should be. My 1st chapter marker is correct, my 2nd one is correct, my 3rd chapter marker is too early by about 3-5 seconds, and the 4th chapter marker shows up half way through the 3rd quarter, yet the actual 4th quarter footage is not on the disc. I usually burn the files at 6X speed. I've also noticed that in the higher action parts of the footage there is what I would call "ghosting", meaning there are trails behind the fast moving objects and it gets blurry. I've burned two separate games with almost identical results and have now gone through about 6 blank DVDs.
What has me is I did the exact same process with games last year and I never had this issue. Now granted I only had 4GB of RAM back then, but I highly doubt the additional 8GB of RAM is causing this. One other thing, last year my footage only took at most 2 hours to encode from Premiere Pro, but now it is taking over 7 hrs. Any help in this matter would be most appreciated. I'll be glad to offer any additional information if necessary. Thanks in advance.

There are some bugs with Encore's layer break workflow. In some cases, Encore adds an extra chapter on the timeline at the place where the layer break occurs. As a result of this, subsequent chapters will be incremented by 1.
Since you are facing problem with automatic layer break, I would suggest you to add a manual layer break exactly at the chapter #3.
if Encore doesn't allow you to add layer break at chapter #3 then you may want to add a new chapter in between #3 and #4 and add layer break at the new chapter.
Steps to add Manual Layer break:
    1. File> Build>DVD
    2. In the disc info section, make sure the dic's size is set to Dual layer (8.54 GB)
    3. Select the Manual Layer break option
    4. Click on the Build button, now it opens the "Set Layer Transition dialog box" where you can set the layer break.

  • Is Encore CS5 capable of burning BD5/9 discs on DVD-+r discs?

    hello,
is Encore CS5 capable of burning BD5/9 discs on DVD-+r discs?
i mostly burn FULL HD AVCHD music videos which are only 3-5 minutes.
i don't want to waste BD media for only 3-4 minutes.
if Encore does do BD5/9 discs, is there a preset for it
or do you just burn the Blu-ray project onto a DVD-+r disc?
Any help / advice is appreciated

    good morning John,
    thanks for your answer
it confirms the answers i received in the hardware forum

Upon starting a new project, Encore fails pretty much every other time when you do one of the following actions:
when you import m2v files as assets
when you import a PSD file as a menu
when you click 'Save' (but it does save the project)
when you start to build a DVD
when it is approaching completion of building a DVD but still writing out the disc (upon trying the disc it does work)
when you start to build a DVD, Encore fails and you cannot eject the disc from the tray unless you hard re-boot the pc.
A very annoying and time consuming problem, that must be a software issue as I have just had my Z800 maintained and had CS5 suite re-installed. This project I am creating is not even an HD set-up, it's only 720x576. It is just me or does Encore CS5 appear to be very 'flakey' and unsupportive as it doesn't even have the library as part of the install.
Can anyone from Adobe please advise me? Or has anyone else had similar issues to the above?
    Thanks

These problems are not normal, and I am not sure what you mean by it being a "software issue." Encore users do experience more problems with Encore than other apps in the Adobe suite, and often have to use workarounds, but you are experiencing a very high level of problems that reflect that someone more is wrong.
Some users need to run Encore "as administrator" (right click, "run as administrator").
Do all operations with no disk in the drive and build to a folder or image.
    Any difference?
as it doesn't even have the library as part of the install.
That is not normal, although it happens.
    For CS5 download:

For CS4 (also includes install by disks):

I would first confirm that you do not have the "LIbrary" folder where Encore is installed. For me (win7, CS5) it is at c:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adboe Encore CS5\Library.
If Library is there, is the content in it?
If every thing else in the Adobe suite seems okay, you can try a repair install. See the CS4 link above.
To check where Encore is pointed for library:
Edit -> Preferences -> Media and check Library Content Location:

  • Mac DVD Superdrive not recognized in Encore CS5

I'm trying to burn a DVD using Encore CS5 on my new Mac Pro.  I already spoke with Apple to troubleshoot to see if it was the drive.  It was not the drive.  Therefore, there is a problem with Encore not recognizing the drive.  In the destination window in Encore, where it says "Recorder" in the build tab, it says "None Found".  Anyone know what the problem is?

Well, in the WINDOWS world some software will cause Encore to not be able to "see" a drive, so read the links below... I don't know if the same kind of thing happens in the MAC world
Things and Software to AVOID when authoring/burning a DVD

Again in the Windows world, if the user can't or won't remove the offending software for some reason, the solution is to have Encore build the project to hard disk (folder or create an ISO) and then use 3rd party software to burn the folder or ISO to DVD

In fact, just go ahead and tell Encore to write the project to your hard drive and then use other software to write that output to a DVD... if that works, you know that "something" is getting in the way of Encore being able to communicate with your drive
