Encore CS5 on 64 bit Windows Freezing up

Encore Freezes up on any warning (Triangle with !), when I run a Menu, none of the controls work although the menu starts as it should, I can only get out by hitting the cancell.  When it freezes, as it does on most things I'm well accudstomed to doing, I have to open task manager to close Encore and start all over. I'm now stuck with a production nearly ready and cannot use Encore,
I've searched but not found anything close to this.
I'm uptodate on Master Suite CS5, Good solid Windows 7 with 64 biths and lots of memory and lots of free disk space, around 90% free on the project disk.
Any help greatly appreciated.

What computer or motherboard if home built... what graphics adapter and driver version... what input files... what output settings... are just a few of the things you left out
While you gather that information, some reading
As well as the below, right click the Encore icon and select Run as Administrator, which is NOT the same thing as running the computer with the Administrator account, and which fixes several "odd" problems... To create a dual layer DVD (or a BluRay?), you MUST have Encore set to use the Run as Administrator option

  • Cannot use GPU acceleration with 64 bit CS5 under 64 bit Windows 7 with two cards ATI & nVidia

Subject sums up the problem, but here are the details:
My ATI is a 5850, and I have drivers 10.6 installed. That's my primary card connected to my main monitor.
The second card is an nVidia GTS 250 connected to my second monitor with 258.96 drivers.
CS5 does not detect my GPU(s), hence, does not enable GPU acceleration. It says:
"Graphics hardware acceleration is unavailable. You will need to upgrade your video driver and possibly your video card" both of which are obviously wrong, since I have the latest CS5 supporting drivers installed for two cards that can run GPGPU applications!
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you.

I'm curious about whether the requirement to support HLSL Shader Model 3.0 is a big part of what is holding back GPU acceleration support for ATI cards in Adobe products.  It seems that HLSL Shader Model 3.0 is NVidia/Intel proprietary, whereas GLSL is an open standard like OpenGL.
What ATI support do you find being held back?  Just curious.  I ask because I have a 2 year old ATI 4670 card that supports Photoshop nicely.  The Catalyst software seems to have embraced whatever's necessary to run Photoshop.*

    * That said, I see a specific bug where sometimes the 32 bit drivers on my x64 system will not be recognized by Photoshop 32 bit as OpenGL-capable at Photoshop startup.  I've reported it to ATI, and they seem to have taken it seriously, so I expect a fix in a future version.  The 64 bit drivers always satisfy Photoshop's needs, so I'm sure it's not a design deficiency but just a lil' ol' bug.

  • Encore CS5 has started freezing on "Preparing project for build..." in disk burn attempt

After routinely burning DVDs with Encore CS5, the program has started freezing after I choose my settings and click "BUILD" on a window that reads, "Preparing project for build..."
I checked for solutions online and read about problems with Quicktime versions after 7.5.5.  So I uninstalled Quicktime and installed the 7.5.5 version.  Still had problem.
I reinstalled Encore.  Still had problem.
Further research suggested I install the Roxio patch
PX Engine 4.18.16a   I installed the patch.  Still had problem.
I reinstalled the latest version of Quicktime v 7.7.4  Still had problem

Raid config on my data drives
Luckily, I also have Encore loaded as a part of the CS5 suite on a laptop computer, so I transfered the project files to the laptop, which burned the program without a problem.  This tells me the problem is with the program on my desktop and now with the project files.

I'd appreciate any suggestions about how to get my desktop to again burn DVDs in encore.
Message was edited by: Dan 101 Just realized that when I reinstalled Encore, I got a message that instructed me to shut down two processes. One was related to Encore, the other was something like dynamiclink.exe. I couldn't find any such process running when I checked the Task Manager, so I couldn't shut it down before I continued with the installation.  Could this be related to the issue?

I am not using any quicktime files.  I started with 1920 x 1080p avi files to build a number of Permiere projects (one for each chapter of a 50 minute DVD, then converted these segments into H.264 files, (with an .mp4 extension) and built a master Premiere project.  I used H.264 files because it seemed the best option to keep the quality as high as possible before converting to m2v files.  Then I converted the master Premiere project into  m2v and wav files which are being used by Encore.  Should I convert the individual projects into another format (rather than H.264) to build the master project?  Does Encore look at the files converted to m2v from  mp4 as Quicktime files?  Could I avoid this by converting to Microsoft AVI or Uncompressed Microsoft AVI to buld my master project?  I didn't built the entire project into one master premiere project from the start because I was concerned it would be too complex with all the elements and tracks.
Now I can work with Encore and burn files, but the Encore program routinely freezes after I burn a disk.  The Quicktime thing is a puzzle, especially because I stopped getting the freeze when attempting to burn disks after I reinstalled Quicktime 7.6.5. I was trying a number of things and kept a log.  Now I'm trying to figure out why the program freezes after a disk has burned. I turned off Windows DVD Maker, Windows Media Center, and Windows Media Player, rebooted and turned the features on again, but that didn't seem to have an impact.  Also, when I attempt to make changes to a subtitle track, I see the changes in the subtitle track, but they don't appear in the burned disk -- unless I delete a subtitle and recreate it.
Does the Roxio PX engine have any bearing on this?

  • Saving time from encore CS5 to long

    hi Folks,
the time to save a encore CS5  project is far to long, some time over 20 minutes for only few changes.
aswell I have a very poor performance when I use the text tool, by typing and moving objects occures a delay up to few seconds, unable to import and edit longer text passage in a reasonable time,
my workstation is preety fast (I got now problem for example with complex HD premiere or after effects projects)
any one knows if there are system settings in windows 7 what could cause this problem in encore CS5?
    my system:  windows 7, 64bit  /  intel(R) Core(TM) 2Quad CPU Q9550 2,9GHz  /  8GB Ram  /  NVIDA GeForce GTX285  / raid system for harddrive seagate barracuda 2x1TB
    thanks a lot...

Yes, that seems slow. I don't know of any system tuning for Encore specifically.
Go to the PPBM5 benchmarks and see whether you have any weaknesses that might contribute. I found significant differences moving from 6Gig RAM to 12 to 24. But even with 6 I did not have the issues you're describing.

  • Encore CS5 freezes on "initiating transcoding" during startup

At the moment I am a very frustrated Encore CS5 user.  Help.
I cannot get Encore to open.  The program will start and when it gets to "initiating transcoding" it will become non responsive and the only way to stop it is to turn the power off on the computer.
I previously ran CS4 for at least a year on the same computer with no issues.  I upgraded to CS5 in early september and was able to successfully burn at least 2 projects. All other CS5 components work fine EXCEPT Encore.   This latest behavior seems to have started about two weeks ago.
    I've done the following
1- an earlier post suggested upgrading a roxio driver.  Did that - no change.
2-I've followed most of the simpler suggestions on the "Troubleshoot system errors and freezes | Adobe software on Windows (cpsid_82252) - including trying to wipe preferences (couldn't figure out how to do that on Encore - since it won't open!), creating a new administrative profile and updating every driver I could think of.  I did not yet try the more involved strategies such as selective startup.
3-I completely uninstalled CS4, Reinstalled CS5 and updated.  Encore opened once and will not open again.
Oh and I also called Adobe support - waited on hold for over an hour to speak to someone on a very lousy, almost inaudible connection only to be referred to the same document I'd already read on my own. I was told I could pay for support (which seems ludicrous given that the program won't even open and is brand new!) and was even willing to do that, but the support tech seemed to imply I should try uninstalling cs4 first.
So now I'm back at square one.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

with two 500gb drives and an external raid Terra.

You can try one more thing.
    Just enable your drive
try with other software to burn a small file(nero or any other software)
if it works, Install the roxio drivers from

  • ENCORE CS5 'FREEZES' WHEN TRANSCODING

I have built a project (3.75 minutes) in PremierePpro CS5, consisting of AVCHD, stills, and audio tracks. It plays correctly in that application. I then use 'dynamic link' to send to Encore  CS5 - that seems Ok. However, when building (for DVD) the project (and other similar) appear to get about 3/4 way through (according to the progress bar) then 'freeze'. On cancelling, I get the message 'encore not responsing', followed by 'premiere pro not responding'. Ive tried other methods of getting the project into Encore, but the results are the same.
    Any ideas?

    Les

I'm getting a similar lock up of Encore CS5 when building a DVD.
The source has already been rendered in PP using the AME MPEG DVD settings that follow the source material (24p DV).
It locks up during the same process each time. The DVD spins up to speed as if it is writing but the progress bar stops about 10% and never moves. I can't cancel the process (it asks if I want to cancel but nothing happens). I can't eject the disk. It continues to spin even through a restart (but I can eject at this point). Windows continues to function fine throughout (for other things).
The resulting DVD has only about 10 seconds of the opening menu but then locks up (so nothing past that ever got written).  Maybe there's a problem with the menu video or audio?  I'm using the NTSC wedding monogram menu with a 16 bit 44.1khz wav file for audio.
Note: Building to an ISO file instead of direct to DVD works fine. I then use imgburn to make the DVD. I'd just prefer it worked without the extra step.

  • ENCORE CS5.0 CRASHES EVERYTIME WITH WINDOWS 7 - 64BITS

    Hello the forum,
I am really desappointed with ENCORE CS5.0
When we used this soft in CS4 Version with WINDOWS XP on a Laptop computer, it runs slowly, but it runs.
we called the Adobe support and after a lot of discussions, they said that we need to have a better computer for these softwares (PREMIERE and WEB suite)
We bought the CS5.0 version and a new PC : (october 2010)
    DELL Studio XPS 8100 - Intel Core i5 processor (3.2 Ghz - 4 Mo)
    Memory 4 x 2 Go - 1333 MHz DDR3 Bicanal
    DD 1.5 To Serial ATA 7200 Tr/mn
graphic card : 1 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460
    Windows 7 - 64 bits
with this new PC, we immediately have the problem : impossible to open it correctly, very long, and when its opens, it blocks when we try to do something.
we recontacted the Adobe Support (France) and after a lot of trials (sending files, direct manipulations on our PC), they didn't understand and say that we have to wait for CS5.5 version which must solve the problem. they will contact us as soon as the version will be available in order to obtain it with a special price, in respect of the client damage. But we have never been informed, and when we call them to know when we can have the new version, they say it's too late, no special price possible,....
so we never know if this CS5.5 solve the problem
    QUESTION :
Is there somebody who had this problem and is there a solution ?
we are sure that the problem is between ENCORE and Win7 but how to solve it
hope my english is clear enough !
thanks for your help in this matter

  • Encore CS5 freezes opening project

I am running Production Premium CS4 and CS5 on Vista Business 32-bit.
I can't use the Dynamic Link in Encore CS5 as I don't have After Effect CS5 or Premiere Pro CS5 installed so I've created a new project in Encore CS4, imported footage from an After Effects project and saved the project. I then try to open the project in Encore CS5 and it freezes at 13% of the 'opening project' popup box every time.
Can anyone suggest how I might resolve this problem? Thanks.

Just did a search for this problem as my progam also started to hang all of a sudden - at 13% while opening.
I figured it might have been something to do with my clearing out the massive Adobe cache last night. (Useful to do if you suddenly find that you're missing hard drive space and it's not the shadow files. Look in hidden file AppData Adobe Common....)
Anyway, after reading this post, I opened the Premiere Pro file that was used to create the film file originally (even though I never exported this file directly to Encore. I used Media Encoder first.)
As soon as the file loaded in Premiere, the Encore problem resolved. (I had tried it several times before with no luck.)
I didn't need to go back into the Cache folder or rename anything.

  • Encore CS5 constantly locks up/freezes working with large H.264 file

This is driving me mad, I'm trying to author my first Blu Ray with this program, a single layer output with H.264/AVC video. I've encoded the video elsewhere and I have a 21GB .264 file. It's a BR legal file but as soon as I import it into Encore CS5 the fun and games begin. Firstly it takes a good five minutes to import and Encore appears to have crashed. Finally though it does import and looking at 'Blu Ray transcode' it says 'Don't transcode', so it's a legal file. However if I then try to do anything with the file in Encore, like add it to a timeline the whole program locks up again. 10 minutes later it's added as a timeline but trying to navigate that timeline to add chapters is impossible, the program locks up (Not responding) if I try and move the slider or pretty much do anything. It means making a BR with this file is pretty much impossible.
My PC spec is as follows:
    Core i5 2500k 3.3Ghz
    8GB DDR3 1600mhz RAM
120GB Crucial SSD boot drive with Encore installed on
    500GB Hard Disk & 2TB Hard Disk
    Windows 7 64-Bit Home Premium
Is there anything I can do to actually make Encore usable with this large file and finally finish authoring a disc? I've tried loading the file from all three drives and it's the same. The media cache is currently on my 2TB drive because I want to save space on my SSD and minimize writes to it.

Taking 5 minutes to import is normal.  Encore has to index the entire file so it knows where the keyframes are.  Don't try to do anything while that's happening.
Once in, however, Encore should respond normally.  At this point, I'm drawing a blank as to why it isn't.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 unusable due to the brushes/eraser tools freezing on a 64 bit Windows 7 PC!

    Help I can't work
I'm using PS CC 2014 on a 64 bit Windows 7 PC. Photoshop is unusable due to the brushes/eraser tools freezing.
Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it, or how to revert to Photoshop CC using a Creative Cloud subscription?
If this helps, all other cc 2014 programs are running perfectly - as was the previous version of Photoshop.

When exactly does your brushes/eraser tools freeze?
Do you use any Wacom or other brand tablet? If so, have you checked for an updated driver? Disconnect Wacom and use a mouse instead and check.
Disconnect all the external devices and then retry.
Install all the PS updates. Help > Updates
Try resetting the PS CC preferences and check if it's an issue with corrupt preferences : http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776
Try to open PS CC 2014 in Plugin Disabled mode and check the same. For that Press Shift+PS CC 2014 icon and hit Yes.

  • Encore CS5 fails/crashes/freezes...can anyone advise?

    Hi,
I am having problems with Adobe Encore CS5, Master Collection. I am having this with both my hi-end PC and laptop of the following spec:
    HP Z800 Workstation
Intel Xeon CPU X5650 @2.67 GHz (12 Core)
    6.00GB RAM
    Win 7 64-bit
    HP Elitebook 8740w
    Intel Core i7 CPU Q820 @1.73GHz
    8.00GB RAM
    Win 7 64-bit
Upon starting a new project, Encore fails pretty much every other time when you do one of the following actions:
when you import m2v files as assets
when you import a PSD file as a menu
when you click 'Save' (but it does save the project)
when you start to build a DVD
when it is approaching completion of building a DVD but still writing out the disc (upon trying the disc it does work)
when you start to build a DVD, Encore fails and you cannot eject the disc from the tray unless you hard re-boot the pc.
A very annoying and time consuming problem, that must be a software issue as I have just had my Z800 maintained and had CS5 suite re-installed. This project I am creating is not even an HD set-up, it's only 720x576. It is just me or does Encore CS5 appear to be very 'flakey' and unsupportive as it doesn't even have the library as part of the install.
Can anyone from Adobe please advise me? Or has anyone else had similar issues to the above?
    Thanks

These problems are not normal, and I am not sure what you mean by it being a "software issue." Encore users do experience more problems with Encore than other apps in the Adobe suite, and often have to use workarounds, but you are experiencing a very high level of problems that reflect that someone more is wrong.
Some users need to run Encore "as administrator" (right click, "run as administrator").
Do all operations with no disk in the drive and build to a folder or image.
    Any difference?
as it doesn't even have the library as part of the install.
That is not normal, although it happens.
    For CS5 download:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/853/cpsid_85388.html
For CS4 (also includes install by disks):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408826.html
I would first confirm that you do not have the "LIbrary" folder where Encore is installed. For me (win7, CS5) it is at c:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adboe Encore CS5\Library.
If Library is there, is the content in it?
If every thing else in the Adobe suite seems okay, you can try a repair install. See the CS4 link above.
To check where Encore is pointed for library:
Edit -> Preferences -> Media and check Library Content Location:

  • Encore CS5 won't boot up from desktop icon in Windows 7

Encore CS5 won't boot up from desktop in Windows 7 64bit version.
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks for that reply.
I have always opened it separately from Premiere in the past.  In this instance I have some MPEG files unrelated to Premiere.
No problems during install or reinstall.  No error messages when clicking on the desktop icon.
It seems to not be part of the Cloud suite at all.
    The system is Windows 7 Professional SP1 64bit with 16gb memory i7-2700K CPU @ 3.5Ghz.
Lets know if more information needed.  One thread suggested that it needs an update to pxengine (owned by Roxio) but I could not locate it at their site – it appears to be integrated into their programs, of which I have Roxio Creator 2012 installed.
