Encore doesn't "see" blank media in DVD burner

When I try and burn a project to a DVD I get the message;" Please insert media". I've tried several different blank discs, as well as different brands...no matter what I still get this message. I can play pre-recorded DVDs in the burner, as well as music and data CDs...no problem. I've tried disabling the burner in Device Manager; and then re-enabling; also tried uninstalling the burner..no luck. I've uninstalled any other burning software that was on the machine and Encore still will not recognize that blank media is present in the DVD burner. I've run out of things to try/look at....Help!

Create an .ISO on the hard disk, use
ImgBurn
to create the DVD
If that works, you have "something" breaking the communication link between Encore and the drive

Things and Software to Avoid
Even uninstalling software may not fix the problem... you may need a registry cleaner after the uninstall, such as

  • Can't see blank cds or dvds, no burn options

I recently started organizing my photos from the past year and wanted to burn them to a cd or dvd as an archive. I found that whenever I insert a blank cd or dvd I get music or video options but no burn option, and no icons show up on my desktop. The only way that I have been able to burn media is to create a burn folder and then insert a blank disk. These then show up on my hard drive but don't see visible on my b&w g3 or my husbands non mac pc. All of this is off a clean reinstall of system software and upgrades to 10.4.4

Take a look at your CDs & DVDs System Preferences. What options are specified for what happens when you insert blank CDs or DVDs? If you want to burn disks with files & folders on them, set it to "Open Finder". You will then be prompted to give your disk a name when you put it in. If you get the music option, you'd have to next open iTunes and burn a music CD from iTunes. Mac OS X will reserve a disk like this and not show it in the finder because it thinks you want to open iTunes and burn your music from there.
A DVD burned on a Mac will not be usable in a Windows PC. Because they hold more information, they'll be formatted as a Mac OS Extended format disk. Without some third party software, a Mac formatted disk like this is not readable by a Windows PC. However, a standard data CD burned by the Finder should be. It will be a "hybrid" Mac OS Extended/ISO9660 disk that should be readable by both a Mac and a Windows PC. It's possible the type of CD-R disks you're using don't work well with your PC's optical drive, you might try a different brand. Since the Blue & White G3 was constructed before CD-Rs or DVD±R/RWs were invented, it's likely it may not be able to read those kidns of disks as well.

  • My dvd player on my iMac doesn't see the jpegs on a dvd.

my dvd player on my iMac doesn't see the jpegs on a dvd. The jpegs are there cause we can see them on my husbands windows laptop. My imac doesn't see anything on the DVD.

OPen Disk Utility, highlight that DVD if it shows, click on the blue info icon, what does it report for Format & such?

  • Unacceptable Media - Won't  Burn

I cannot get my mac to accept my DVD-R as acceptable media. I think it's a permissions problem as I run the disk utility and have various "should be lrwxr-xr-x, they are lrw-r--r--.
I've run TechTool pro and all equipment checks out. The last successful burn I did was with a DVD-RW although it doesn't even like that now.
I had a similar problem in the past and restarted the Mac by holding down a certain key (safe mode maybe) and then restarted again and it worked, but it's been too long since I did this trick to remember it.

It is highly unlikely it is a permissions problem and much more likely a media quality / DVD burner interaction problem.
If all that you have access to is what Staples supplies, you might try Sony DVD-Rs. I've never had an issue with them. I've had LOTS of issues with Memorex disks and wouldn't touch 'em if they were the only things left in the store.

  • [CLOSED] Burning tools can't see blank DVD discs

    Hello.
Something strange is happening lately. Burning apps can't see blank discs. It doesn't matter if I have cdrkit or cdrtools installed - neither works.
Graveman hangs on start when blank DVD is in tray.
Brasero doesn't see my device and allow only to create ISO images.
cdrecord -minfo fails, with empty DVD-R present in tray:

I'm in optical group and . Thunar successfully mounts DVD with written content and cdrecord -minfo also gives me information about present media when it's not empty.
Is there anything I can do?

It's supposed to be in kernel, right? Besides, it was never necessary for me to install external driver, months ago burning DVD discs with tools using cdrkit/cdrtools/dvd+rw-tools wasn't a problem.
I even though that lack of libdvdread package was causing this... but having it installed doesn't help either (as expected - it's just for DVD-Video discs).
    EDIT: I've also tried dvd+rw-mediainfo /dev/sr0 - doesn't work.
cdrecord have no problems recognizing empty CD-R medium, so it's happening with DVD discs only.

  • My MBP can't see blank CD/DVD's. Is it a common problem?

    Hi,
I have installed Lion recenlty. Was trying to burn some files on a CD/DVD today and it was a surprise. My MacBook doesn't see a blank disc.
I've tried a 'complete erase' in the Disk Utility, but it doesn't see the disc either.
Does anyone know what could that be?
    Thanks!

    Hello,
Try this... click on a clear space on your Desktop so you see "Finder" in the Menu... then from the Menu click Finder/Preferences. Make sure the top 3 boxes are checked and close the window.
Insert a disk. If the Memorex disk does not mount on the Desktop, try a different Media. Sony, Verbatim, or Maxell.

  • DVD burner (UJ-825) does not recognize blank media - alignment error

    Hello,
when inserting (tried several) blank DVD into my iMac DVD burner, it spits it out after a few seconds ...
    error message in the logs
    Jul 4 04:43:46 Bazounga kernel[0]: disk2: alignment error.
is there anyway I could re-calibrate the head of the DVD burner or is could the problem be coming from somewhere else.
N.B.: home burned DVDs cannot be read anymore (same behaviour)
When inserting a blank CD it recognises it but trying to burn a "burnable folder" is fails with error message 0x8002006E)

same kind of error appeared previously with DVD's
But commercial CD's and DVD can be read after some "hesitation noise"
    Is my burner dead ?

Normally this error message is caused by incorrect Format or some of the cheaper incompatible Brands of Media. I suggest you use this.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
I also suggest you use DVD-R Media.
it is the most recognized all around.
Be sure when you buy that your optical drive will burn at the speed it was designed to use.
Many of the higher speed media like 16X will not work on older computers.
They will give you error messages
Here is another good link that explains it.
    http://www.videohelp.com/dvd
I suggest you find Maxell 16X DVD-R media in the individual Jewel Cases and read the packaging and you will see that it will burn at 1X,2X,4X,8X,and 16X this media will work with just about anything in the way of computers.

  • Premiere Elements 3 doesn't see my DVD drives?

    Hi
I have been using PE3 for a long time.
I just got a new computer running Windows 7 64 bit.
I thought that PE3 was working great until I got ready to write my production to DVD.
When I get to that point I get the "No DVD drive detected" message.
I have two DVD writers in my computer both are working normally.
I put a blank DVD in each of them but no matter what I do PE3 doesn't see them.
When I click on the drop down it is blank.
Anyone have any ideas how I can get Elements to see my drives?
If this fails, can I write the project to a folder (that seems to work OK) and then just copy the project to a DVD from there?
    Any help welcome
    Mike

Many considerations in your present situation, but for now I will leave you with a link to the free 30 day Premiere Elements 8.0 tryout from Adobe.
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=premiere_elements&loc=en_us
Top of the list for getting started on the right foot with version 8.0
    a. Download and install the Premiere Elements 8.0.1 Update (Patch)
    b. Turn of the Background Rendering (that should be done automatically by the installation of the 8.0.1 Update) but check anyway...Premiere Elements workspace Edit Menu/Preferences/General.
    c. Turn of the AutoAnalyzer Feature (See Elements Organizer workspace Edit Menu/Preferences/AutoAnalyzer Options)
There are users out there successfully using Premiere Elements 8.0.1.
I do not work for Adobe nor have any affliation with them. I will take another look at your Premiere Elements 3.0.2 issue and see if I can come up with any worthwhile suggestions.

Add On....If you can burn to folder successfully, take just the VIDEO_TS Folder from the saved folder and burn that to a DVD disc using a program such as Nero (Burn Video Files category, not Make Data Disc) or the free program IMGBurn (strange program but effective for the purpose) using the Write files/folders to disc category. In either case, the VIDEO_TS will be burn to the DVD disc with the right file system for DVD-VIDEO on a DVD disc.

  • Poineer DVR-105 doesn't see media, doesn't spin

My problem is very similar to many that I have read here, but I thought that I would start a new posting just so that it’s easier to keep track of things. My DVD-R / RW stopped working a few days ago. It will not mount any blank media, DVD or CD, nor will it mount any pre recorded media, DVD or CD. Pushing the eject button on the keyboard opens and closes the drive just fine, It is still an option for burning in Toast Titanium 6. It is viewable in the System Profiler. If I hold the door open when I hit the eject button I can see that the green light comes on while the tray is in transit, but I can hear no sound coming from the drive that would indicate that is is even spinning. No disk images will show up on the desktop, and when attempting to burn with either DVD Studio pro 2 or Toast Titanium 6 it will spit the disk back out and then i will get a message that there is no disc in the tray.
    My system is as follows:
Machine Model: Power Mac G4 (Mirror Door)
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (3.2)
    Number Of CPUs: 2
    CPU Speed: 1.25 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 1 GB
    Bus Speed: 167 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.5.7f1
The Drive in question is as follows:
    Manufacturer: PIONEER
    Model: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-105
    Revision: 1.30
    Serial Number: CDDL191530WL
    Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-RW
    Disc Burning: Apple Supported/Shipped
    Removable Media: Yes
    Detachable Drive: No
    Protocol: ATAPI
    Unit Number: 0
    Socket Type: Internal
I am running OS 10.3.9 and I have both the Superdrive and a Combodrive. Until the middle of last week the drive worked (the Combodrive works fine.) I have trashed the preferences, Run Disk Warrior, Restarted holding down Command S and run /sbin/fsck -f and then rebooted and repaired disk permissions. I have tried trashing the 4 or 5 preference files under my user library that have been suggested in other posts but did not see all of them. I have also tried creating a second account on my system to see if it would mount there with no luck. In addition to this I have done a clean install of the OS to try and deal with this, and some other problems that I have been having, all with no luck.
I am wondering if 10.3.9 is the culprit, as it seems to be a common denominator in other posts describing similar problems, or is the drive just dead? If the drive is dead can I replace it and maintain the same level of functionality?
I apologize for the length of this post but I want to make sure that all of the information represented a clearly as possible; I thank everyone in advance for any insight they might offer.
    Duel 1.25 G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I had got a Pioneer DVR105 about 2 years ago and put it in the top Optical drive bay as I had read there were issues with Cooling and the drives not working mounted in the lower optical drive bay. It worked good.
then i had same issue with my Pioneer DVR105 about 14 months ago. I was desperate, I took the drive out of the Mac and actually took it apart and found a loose metal spring that had lodged itself (magnetized) to the reader arm which meant the drive would never mount any disc and would no longer read.
I got lucky, put the drive back to together and put the drive into an external FW case and POOF it worked.
I have kept the drive in that external FW case and it burns great ever since.
OWC sells the Pioneer DVR110D in a bundle for about $58 or drive only for about $53 and Newegg sells the drive OEM for about $40.
Newegg sells a ton of OEM products and can get products cheap as they get the stuff in bulk. I assume that OWC sells the bare drive for $13 more is you are buying it as Mac branded and you get OWC's top notch service. But for most people just buy the thing from Newegg. of course the Newegg Pioneer DVR110D drive is Just the drive...no software, no drivers, no cables, no screws...
only way I'd see it being $130 is if it was sold it setup in an external FW case with fan and power supply.

  • TS2057 mac mini doesn't see dvd

Recently my mac mini doesn't see dvd's when i put them in to play.

I have to agree with Dah●veed and use an > LG GE24LU20 Reviews that I call Brutus.
Not only has Brutus spared the SuperDrives in both my 2006 iMac and 2010 Mac Mini, but he runs circles around the SuperDrives when it come to burning, importing, playing, even booting from System Install and Upgrade Disc's.
Other External DVD Drives that are highly reccommended here in the forums, are:
    OWC's > SuperDrive DVD, DVD Dual-Layer, CD-R/RW, Blu-Ray Optical Drive Solutions FireWire, USB2, eSATA
    and the LaCie's > LaCie - LightScribe DVD±RW, Duplicators and Blu-ray - USB 2.0 & FireWire

  • Burn folder do not see my blank CD or DVD

burn folder ask for blank media to insert even if a blank media in drive
i do not use this feature often but this is quite annoying
with Disk Utility i do not have problems
but i really need to solve problem with burn folder
    thank you for your help!

Set the "CDs & DVDs" System Preference to "Open Finder" for bland discs. When you insert a blank, it should create a burn folder.
Do you have an external Western Digital My Book drive? That installs software that can stop the detection of blank discs.
    Keith Cooley found a fix:
Delete "com.WD.WDDriveServices.plist" from "LaunchDaemons" in the "Library" folder at the top level of the disk, then restart.

  • Mac mini doesn't see/eject/burn cd's/dvd's

My Mac mini no longer recognizes cd's/dvd's - I have a cd stuck that doesn't show up on the finder, and can't be ejected. There have been a few instances over the last few weeks where the cd will appear in the finder. I can then eject it, but when I insert another cd, it disappears.
I am experiencing similar behavior from my external dvd burner, which suggests to me that this is a system/os issue. Both had worked fine for years, and there have been no significant changes to my system since.
Here's what I've tried, based on research at Apple Support:
    Eject key in sleep mode
    Cmd-Opt-O-F on reboot
hold mouse key down on reboot
    Disk Utility disk permissions repair
    Onyx disk repair
    PRAM reset
Nothing has affected my situation. Please advise.

Here is the most simple trick that always gets overlooked with discs stuck in drives - Open Toast (or a burn folder), drop some data in to burn, click burn and "Wulla!" the disc magically comes out (most of the time). Too easy, isn't it? - This is also a good way to check if your drive is being recognized by the system. The fact it happens with your external drive as well points more towards the kind of discs you are using and their condition, so it might be worthwhile experimenting with a few different brands of discs. Try running the hardware test from your OS disc and see if it finds any errors.

  • TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R2312 can't see blank DVD - HELP!

HI all - I have a TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R2312. It reads and plays CDs and DVDs but I'm trying to burn a video onto  a DVD and when I place the blank DVD R into it to burn, I get a "Please insert media" message. The DVD-R that I'm putting in is brand new so there shouldn't be any problem there. It's driving me nuts!! It may well be that this is simply not a DVD burner - I may just be that stupid. If not, is there any way to fix this problem?
    MANY THANKS!

The SD-R2312 can read and write CDs, but it can only read DVDs.  It has no capability to write a DVD.

  • Why my dvd drive on MBPro doesn't recognize blank cd-r and dvd-r?

Super drive on my MB Pro doesn't recognize blank CD's and DVD's.Both are ejected after 10-15 seconds. It reads all other CD's and DVD's....
That means I cannot burn new CD's and DVD's.Any sugestions?

    OK
Then the best way to pin this problem down is to split the process into two parts
    • Encoding
    • Burning
By "Save as a DiskImage" - If this works and plays OK with DVD tool - then
    • Material Used are OK
    • iDVD and Encoding is OK
Then use Disk Util tool to burn to DVD and now
    • I only use Verbatim
    • DVD-R (as they play on more and even older DVD-players)
    • Burn Speed set down to x2 or x4 - to get less Burn Errors (and even the DVD will play on a PC or the Mac that made it - NOT ALWAYS SO ! )
    • and I never let Start-Up Hard Disk go under 25Gb free space
    • NO other program during process or burning - e.g. Screen, Energy-Savers, Internet, etc - No Nothing
BTW - DO NOT pop in any CD or DVD until Mac ASK'S for it ! else You wind up with a Data-DVD if burned.
