Encore DVD for CS2

I'm aware CS2 is no longer supported.  I found this out when I tried to re-install Adobe CS2 Production Studio Premium, after a harddrive failure (something about the activation server being down).  I downloaded and installed the versions Adobe made available, that don't require activation.  The only thing I didn't see available was Encore DVD.  Does anyone know if Adobe has made a version of Encore DVD available to CS2 users who lost access to that program, or a contact for someone at Adobe who may be receptive to a support question about CS2?

Encore is a goner. Licensing restrictions with the MPEG stuff prevent Adobe from providing an unprotected version.

  • Exporting to DVD for Encore

Hi all, I have been doing a lot of reading and have been trying to resist making a new topic, but I think I can't help it anymore, so here it goes.
I previously got a crash course in exporting from within Premiere to Encore here - http://forums.adobe.com/thread/857030
I used workflow 1 and reported getting good results. That project was under an hour. I am now dealing with wedding videos that go on past an hour and would like some more help, if possibly, though I think I have managed to stumble my way through quite a bit.
The footage being used is DSLR at full 1920x1080 and I simply exported to MPEG-2 DVD using "Match Source Attributes (High Quality)" from the dropdown menu.
I then checked "Use Max Render Quality" and after 9+ hours I got a final product. When I looked at it in Encore, however, I found the results to be less than favorable. Text seemed to be blocky and skimming through, some things seemed pixelated.
I was really discouraged by this but decided to burn it and test anyway. Results were not AS bad as I thought, and I figure there may have been an issue looking at the DVD resolution video on my 1080 monitor. Things are bound to look ugly.
So the footage does not look too bad, I think the average Joe won't complain much. I did notice some areas where there was a bit of flicker, like say, intricate wickar furniture.
Question 1: Am I to assume that this is on account of the bitrate and how it was budgeted?
    My minimum bitrate was 2.8.
Max was 7 and target was 5.
The entire film (wedding) is an hour and ten minutes and with those settings it says the output would be 3292MB - and the audio and video file came up to  3.21GB (duh)
Question 2: Can I adjust some settings to maybe bump up the file size? Since I have a 4.7GB DVD disc to play with, can I not make the overall file be close to the capacity and get even higher quality video? How best should I do this?
Question 3: What should I be selecting for Pixel Aspect Ratio? 16:9 or 4:3, considering it is DSLR footage going to SD DVD?
Question 4: If I want to add things like extra features, or, full speeches, I am guessing I should just do a 2nd disc? For future reference.
I appreciate any input that can be given, and since all my searching on the forums didn't find these specific questions (assuming I'm not just bad at searching) maybe others will get some help out of this as well in future.

I never tried the DL discs because of compatibility issues I read about, but with the much greater cost, and the volume of discs I do, did not care to go that direction anyway. As for MPEG-2 encoders out there, everyone has their favorites and their opinions, and I'm not going to name any, as this is the Adobe forum. I do generally use AME myself, but have "Option B" for certain specialty jobs, but is a VERY complicated workflow. Involves several pieces of public domain software.
As for CBR vs. VBR encoding, you'll get all kinds of opinions on that. For years, I authored with a third-party DVD tool that did not like importing VBR files, so I stuck with CBR all the time, and now that I am authoring in Encore...old habits die hard. I have my reasons for using CBR for most jobs still. I like to think that encoding at 6 or 7 looks pretty good, so...why not encode ALL of your footage at 7? Why encode some scenes at the low end of say 4, when ALL the footage could be 7? So I like to stick with CBR except for low data rate jobs where extra bit management will show a tangible benefit. I've also seen "break up" of the image with VBR when hitting sudden channges, like photo flashes at wedding receptions, where the data rate spikes from min to max with VBR - don't see this issue with CBR. Probably depends on the player to an extent. The guy who encodes everything at 10 has to be rolling his eyes at me right now ;-)
About the two hour projects - if you are talking about starting with an HD source, then getting a nice result on DVD is difficult at any bitrate! It has to do with scaling issues, and is especially problematic with interlaced footage because you are not just scaling, but flipping from Upper Field to Lower Field interlacing as well and things just go bad. Not singling out Adobe - I don't know if ANY NLE really nails it, just Google it, it's a problem all around the industry. We all though that shooting in HD would automagically result in nicer DVDs, but my old DV-sourced DVDs look better.
Adobe recommends using the "Maximum Render Quality" setting in AME when scaling (HD to SD), but then I see other posts saying that CUDA rendering with an Nvidia card will actually do better, so leave Max Render off if you have Nvidia...makes my head hurt.
When I figure it all out, will let you know! I've been making DVDs for over 10 years, and only ran into quality issues when I started shooting HD. Seems that setting the DVD encode to PROGRESSIVE may help when encoding from HD material, takes interlacing out of the picture. Still working on that.
As for the 560 formula, got that right from the Adobe site a while back. It's just the number that works. Think about it - reverse engineer and multiply the optimal data rate that will fit a 4.7GB disc times minutes, and it is 560! 6.22x90=558. 4.66x120=559 and so on.
When I talk about delivering two-hour DVDs to my customers, this is different than say doing a concert video or indie film for national distribution. My wedding, dance recital and stage play customers think the DVDs look great. A TV critic might diagree. Just consider that the average young person is now VERY used to watching YouTube garbage, so they wouldn't know quality if it bit them in the backside! Compression is what they are used to.

  • Can't activate my older version of Encore DVD 2.0

My computer died. Got my computer running and trying to re-install and activate Adobe Encore DVD 2.0 but the activation server is down for that. Adobe doesn't activate ver 2.0 anymore. They want you to upgrade to Encore 6.0. I don't have the money to upgrade and I want to use my ligimate bought copy of Encore DVD 2.0. Followed a thread and found out others got phone calls from the support team with a  authorization code to activate it. The forum said they updated Adobe's internal documentation so that support agents could help others with this same issue. However, I tried to get the same help with no luck. I still want to use my 2.0 version because it works and I don't see a need, nor do I have the money to upgrade. I have a legal ligimate store bought copy. Why should I have to buy another version? If others are being helped with their Encore DVD 2.0, why can't I?

I suspect that what you were seeing was re Premiere and other CS2 applications.
Encore was not CS2; just a plain "2" application.
I cannot find a download of version 2; 1.5 and then it was first bundled with Premiere CS3.
Call support and see if they'll give you an old version of CS3!

  • Integration of other Adobe products..Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, Encore DVD

Prior to obtaining CS2 I have been working with the other video/audio Adobe tools; Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, Encore DVD.
I fully expected to see integration of these products into the Bridge application after CS2 installation. I was disappointed, there does not appear to be any such integration. I do hope that this is in plan, and that I don't have to spend an "upgrade" fee to use integration that should have been there to begin with.
Even if there is no further integration, it would be nice to be able to continue using the Bridge as my "file manager" in the event I have to transfer my CS2 activation to another computer; after all I still have 4 licensed Adobe products installed on the machine, even if there not, quote, CS2 applications.

I can't use Bridge with my video products anymore. I have 3 systems in my personal development environment. I am now past the 30 day period before activation of CS2 is required on my video editing machine. Now I am no longer able to use Adobe Bridge with my other Adobe (video) products.
Also, now I've noticed that the next level of video products is available, they now have Bridge integrated. As I anticipated in my first append, I cannot continue using Bridge with my Adobe video products unless I spend more money for an upgrade. If the intention is to have Bridge become an integral tool in the creative process, this policy is short sighted. It can't be that difficult to bring out an update for the CS2 level of bridge that would enable it to work with users that have AE 6.5 or PPro 1.5 installed.

  • Encore DVD 2.0 on VISTA

    Hello,
I am following a conversation with the technical support of Adobe.
I have just changed my computer and it is optimized for Windows Vista. At this time it runs on XP, and I encounter some problems with the graphics card and WiFi card.
    My questions are:
    - Does among you, somebody has already installed Encore DVD 2.0 on Vista (I have the Production Studio Premium Creative Suite)?
    - If yes, have you encountered any problems?
    Thank you.
    Sincerely, Olivier.
    Bonjour,
    Merci d'avance.
    Cordialement, Olivier.

EncoreDVD CS2 on Vista is unsupported.
Some users get lucky, but nothing is guaranteed, and you will not get any support at all (apart from those here who have managed to get it working).
Your best bet is to upgrade to CS3 - that is Vista 32-bit qualified.

I still use CS3, yes it's true.  However, I have my upgrade copy only, not my CS2, and I just purchased a new iMac Mini.  Therefore, I do not have my SN for CS2.  Can I some how get a serial number for CS2?  I found a link with SN's but none worked.  I wo

There is a SPECIAL serial number for CS2 that will probably not work for a CS3 upgrade http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/creative-suite-2-activation-end-life.htm l
You may still buy CS6 which has a perpetual license... Premiere Pro to get the bundled Encore Creative Suite 6

  • 4:3 and 16:9 mix onto one Adobe Encore DVD

Using Adobe Encore DVD, I have made a 4:3 and 16:9 mix of movie timelines and menus on one DVD.
Encore previews the mix of 4:3 and 16:9 movies/menus in the one project correctly.
The dvd disc I made plays 4:3 and letterbox 16:9 on my 4:3 TV correctly.
The dvd disc I made plays 4:3 and 16:9 in InterVideo DVD on my computer OK.
Why when I take the disc to the shop to view on a widescreen monitor does it not show each aspect ratio correctly. I hope it is just a setting there but we tried many settings on the DVD player and on the monitor. When 4:3 played correctly, 16:9 did not and vica versa.
Is it me or the shop?
    This page was helpful http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/329473.html
    Thanks, freddo

We were just stuggling with this for some time, and eventually discovered that we were not properly using Encore.
We had two videos:  one as 4:3, the other as 16:9.
We created a menu, brought the videos into the timeline, linked everything properly, but would not get the expected results.
We eventually learned that we were supposed to create TWO timelines; one for the 4:3, and one for the 16:9.
Hope this can save someone some time.

  • Encore DVD Writing Cancels won't play on DVD player issue

So I have a very confusing issue with encore.
When I press build everything works fine. Then writing begins. The moment the writing reaches the end of the progress bar (the exact moment)  the progress bar goes to empty and the bottom bar says canceling and ejects the DVD. Usually (not every time) a pop up menu saying "end of file" appears next. When I press ok for end of file message the pop up disappears and suddenly the DVD progress bar is filled and the DVD says completed (as if nothing just happened). So I'm confused whether it worked or not!
I reinsert the DVD that just ejected into my Mac and it works! Then I put it into a DVD player and it won't play, it won't play on my old Xbox 360 either, but it WILL play in a Bluray player?!
Everytime I rewrite the files I get different results. They all work on my Mac and blu ray but only 1 of 4 works in the Xbox. The one that does work in the Xbox will read in the DVD player but plays choppy and  skips  around as if the DVD is scratched or damaged?
! Other differences involve the write speed, sometimes the options are 8x or 4x. Other times its 3x,2x, and 1x. When the latter write speed options occur I cannot press "test before writing" it's greyed out. When 8x and 4x are the speed options I can check it.  I used different DVDs and it didn't help.
I work for a company that needs to copy the DVDs but they can't be copied. Don't know why?
    Here are my settings
    Mpeg 2-DVD exported from Pr.
    720x480
    Codecs: Mpeg video, Mpeg layer
    Duration: 1:10:26
Encore DVD transcode status: Don't Transcode
    Encore Project/assets
    2 Menus
    1 Mpeg video
    1 Timeline
    Build
    Format: DVD
    Output: DVD disc
    Source: Create Using current project
    4.7 gb disc
    Has 510mb free
    All regions
    Unlimited copies
First Play and title button are a menu
    Check build is good.
I really need help with this weird issue quickly thanks.

Just an Update, I've tried many things to no avail still have a few others to try. Being a Large file it takes a while to try things.
I went ahead and got Toast, but considering that the Image Iso and the DVD Folder both gave me the End of File Error and the Disc "Failed Completed" Error I figured it a no go and it was. It did however give me something that Opened everywhere (Mac,Xbox,Dvd) , but it did not play on the Dvd correctly.
I've done numerous things in the Mac permissions end Like trying as a different user and running as the Root User, but it was also unsuccessful.
I've Re- Exported the file many different ways, but finally had a breakthrough using a version of M2v.  It's definitely an error with Finalizing. My disc previously began to mess up and give "END of File" after it finished writing, it never even made it to the "Writing Lead Out" stage. I beleive this is why it plays it certain places fine, but probably not as well in systems (like Dvd players) that require those last few steps like writing Lead Out.
The only issue I have now is that when I put it into the DVD player it say "No title"!?!? AY CARAMBA!!!
Now I'm working on trying to figure this NEW problem! I have all my menus and links in place, but no go. I think it may be related to the previous problem in that something beneath the surface is wrong with my computer. Being a used Mac with a restored Hard Drive there are probably endless possibilities, but I hesitate to think that way because it may also have absolutely nothing to do with it.
So any help is greatly appreciated
whether it be a specific issue you know of dealing with used Macs and issue similar to mine
or just on the "NO Title" error as a separate issue. I'm hoping this "No Title" is something simple and unrelated,  I've already burned through about 13 discs and even more pain pills for the headaches!!

  • Encore DVD  4:3 or 16:9

    Heelo Everyone,
    I need a bit of a help.
I have a project but not sure what to do.I want to make DVD using Encore DVD.I have Several Video Clips which will be the DVD.
    The problems are:
1.half of the video clips are 4:3 aspect ratio and the other half 16:9.So do i make a Encore project for 16:9 or for 4:3 ratio.I will be encoding the clips into DVD Mpeg-2 file so i will use Encore DVD only to compile the DVD.I dont know if i insert this files are they are 4:3 ration and 16:9 ratio in 16:9 project settings will that affect my 4:3 videos?I know that Encore has an option that if a widescreen dvd is inserted in 4:3 screen it will envelore the image .I would appreciate your help on this one.
2.All my videos are Progressive Scan.Do i need to convert them to interlace(because all commercial dvd are interlaced)?Which field should be first?I am in Europe.
    Thank you very much

The Encore project setting does not set 16:9 vs 4:3. You can mix screen ratios, as long as you do not mix them on the same timeline.
The letterbox etc settings are generally set by the player, by telling it what your TV is.
DVDs save as interlaced, but they code it so you can play it as a progressive as long as the player supports it.

  • Link Menu Buttons to Subtitle Track in Encore DVD 2.0?

I desperately need help with subtitles in DVD 2.0. I did: “Timeline > Add Subtitle Track” on each of my 10 timelines. I added a few subtitle texts to check how it works. So far so good. I created a submenu with “Select Subtitle, etc.” Then I tried to ‘link’ the Subtitle Button on this menu to subtitle track #1 – but it wasn't available in the Subtitle Button’s Properties panel’s Link drop down menu (and the Override drop down menu was grayed out). The Adobe Encore DVD 2.0 Manual says (on p. 222) that “You can set the audio or subtitle track with any link control (such as End Action or Override) in the Properties panel.” This doesn't seem to be the case unless I am doing something wrong (most probably). Also, on the same page, the manual says that “2. Select a button to set … the subtitle track… 3. In the Properties panel, choose Specify Other from the Link pop-up menu.” There is no “Specify Other” selection in the list. (One comment: The subtitle track does not show up in the Project panel – may be this is the problem?) I would appreciate any help. Thanks, Laci.

HI Bill, I have another subtitle question. I finished my first (big) Encore DVD 2.0 project yesterday (). I build the DVD image but when I tried to burn it to a DVD disk it turned out that the project has about 122 million more bytes than what would fit on the disk (). So, with PE 7, I edited some of the 9 movies in the project (exported them with same name, to the same place as during the first time) and I opened the Encore project.  I noticed that it used the old (imported by Encore) avi files. Then I did something not very smart: deleted the old (and long) avi. files from the project and imported the edited (and shorter) new avi files. At this point, I noticed, that my laboriously created subtitles disappeared  .
Do these subtitles still exist somewhere? There is a file in the project, called "SpuSplit.ses" in the SubtitleDataFiles folder but I do not know how to open it or if it would help at all. More important: What should I do next time to save the subtitles (or audio for that matter) if I still want to make some (minor) editing on my project after building the DVD?  (I assume that I have to create the subtitles in script files and then import them as many times as I want. Am I right?)
    Thanks for any help, Laci.
(BTW, I uploaded my picture and it is in 'My Profile' but does not show up with these massages.)

  • "File path not found" when opening an Encore DVD project made 2 years ago

    Configuration:
XP SP3, Encore DVD CS3 coming from Creative Suite.
    2Gb RAM, fast-enough-CPU, large-enough-harddisk (~70Gb space).
The project, as I remember, should has been made with Encore DVD 2.0 2 years ago.
The project file is placed on the C:\ with no invalid characters on the path or filename.
The message prompts when I try to open the project file and after some loading(1 sec).
I have been searching on the Internet for these problems on other people but there are no satisfactory solutions yet. Does anyone have the same issue?

As you will see in the photo below I have made 3 Buttons (Play Movie - Chapter Selection - Slideshow) and a main video is not as much as you click on Button of the 3 poles was playing then. My problem is that I do not know what name to give him from Photoshop while I do the video in the central TV as Button whenever you go up the the arrow button takes like.
    I do not want like a button but as a video that plays as long as you expect. How can this be;

    Welcome to the forum.
If I understand what you are trying to do, which is play a Video in the Background of a Menu, then this THREAD in the Encore Forum might show exactly what you want to do. Also, most subscribers to the Encore Forum use Photoshop for their Menus, so you might want to read that linked thread, and if that is not what you want, post to the Encore Forum.
    Good luck,

  • Advantage of using Encore DVD vs PremierPro to create DVD

I'm just learning these products and have a basic question for the gurus out there.
If I'm creating a DVD that just has a simple one-button (play) menu screen, what are the advantages and disadvantages to exporting the movie from PremierPro and importing into Encore DVD to create the DVD, vs just exporting to DVD directly from PremierPro?
    Thanks!
    Kathy

In the simple case you mention of single play button in a menu, the only possible advantage of doing it in Encore would be that you can customize your menu in Photoshop.
Otherwise, exporting to DVD from Premiere would be simpler.
