Encore "Encode failed" randomly

Two full days (and partly nights) trying everything to solve this problem, reading every single topic about that on the forum... I thought I'd better ask a question to the community before throwing my PC  through the window...
Basically here is the history of my problem :
I created an Encore project, containing 58 videos, organized in 14 menus.
I checked the project : no errors.
I tried to build an iso image : everything went well for 10 minutes, and all of a sudden Encore crashed.
I understood that this comes from the transcoding of the videos and that I had to do it manually.
As this point you should know that my videos are created in Premiere Pro CC, encoded (through "Export/Media") with Adobe Media Encoder with the MPEG-DVD format and PAL-DV pressets. When I imported them first in Encore CS6, as timelines, the video asset (MPEG video, m2v format) and the audio asset (wav audio, wav format) have a "don't transcode" status.
I right click on each individual asset, modify the transcode settings to "automatic", and ask for "trancode now".
And here is the issue : sometimes it would transcode, and sometimes NOT ! Just randomly...
At the end, as you can expect, I have 1/3rd of my assets trancoded and 2/3rd not !!! Frustrating................
I tried the following :
Edit / preference / general / transcode asset using adobe media encoder application -----> doesn't solve my problem
Create a new projet, import only one timeline and try to transcode  -------> sometimes it would transcode (then I can manually locate transcoded file in my usual projet by right click on the asset / locate the trancoded file), but sometime not....... (I told you in the title, this is random...)
Encode with Adobe Media Encoder with an .avi and try the all process again -----> sometimes it would transcode, sometimes not (but still I miss transcoded time lines)
Checked the titles for length issues, special character issues, etc. -------> found no particular issue (at least comparing the files, I see no explanation of the randomness of the problem)
Right click / Run as administrator  ------> doesn't solve my problem
Free space in my C driver (now I have 27GB of free space, I guess it's enought for Encore to work, right ?)
... and a lot of other stuff, which I won't list here...
AND I STILL HAVE HALF OF MY ASSETS UNTRANSCODED !!!!
Technical details
.m2v file (generated by Adobe Media Encoder with MPEG-DVD format and PAL-DV pressets) : 720*576, 25 frames/sec.
.wav file (generated by Adobe Media Encoder with MPEG-DVD format and PAL-DV pressets):  1536 kbps
the original material is mostly .MOD files, but also .avi (it should have no influence because from two .MOD files originated videos, one would transcode and the other not)
PC DELL Precision M4400
Intel core Duo CPU T9600 @2.8GHz
8GB RAM
Windows seven professional
You see, it is saturday night, 9 P.M. I've been in front of my PC for more that two days now with no success. I just surrender at this point and hope that one of you guys can find a solution for me. And to be honnest, I hope that this is just a stupid mistake from my side, this would mean that I won't have to spend again hours on this topic.
Looking forward to hear from you all !!!
Jacques

As Richard has explained, when you had your assets as "do not transcode," you should have left them alone. with the exception that they might fill the disk up, but none of the errors you have had point to that.
Although normally, you'd set the project format to a3c audio, and the wav files would show "untranscoded."
You should always run Encore "as administrator." It may have nothing to do with the errors you are seeing, but it invites odd problems. Just run as administrator and take that off the table.
The specific error you are getting has most often been due to filename length. Max is  80 characters including spaces. I can't imagine after the troubleshooting you've done that they are this long, but who knows! Yes, special characters etc can be a problem. I don't recall the issue, but I would also look at file path length/depth.
Look also for gaps in any of the Premiere sequences.
> Free space in my C driver (now I have 27GB of free space, I guess it's enought for Encore to work, right ?
No. Temporary files/caches/transcoded files can quickly swell things. Do you have a separate drive for the video files, etc?

I imported my Premiere pro sequence into Adobe Encore, using Adobe Dynamic Link, My premeire pro sequnce won't transcode while in encore..
any bugs, or just my sequence?

Hi Bill, thanks for your post!
I only have one timeline + one .avi file on it..       I tried building this time as an .iso and it actually worked!!   I then put that to DVD using Nero and whala, DVD is working!
Although,  now there is another issue, and this one has me stumped!!
I have quite a number of chapters etc in this dvd (less than 18 per menu)..    I have linked them all up, IN ORDER, and have made sure they number in sequence (when you have to pick options like 'next/previous/chapter' etc..
If I view the DVD on my computer its fine as I can use the mouse to select whatever chapter I want.. however,  when I play it in a DVD player,  scrolling through the menu brings about some funny actions..    It will completely skip some headings..
    Eg.
    Neck    * will highlight
    Back    * will highlight
Arm                                    this one will skip - but if I shuffle around a bit and hit 'left' 'right' a few times, eventually this one will highlight..
    Leg      * will highlight
All the chapter points are done correctly, and if I just watch from chapter 1 and hit 'NEXT' on the remote, it will go through every chapter no dramas - it's only when in the menu that headings will be skipped..
I've checked the project, everything is fine, and there are no missing links or anything..    There are also less than 18 links to a menu (when I first built this menu I had an error show up saying you could have no more than 18 to a menu)
But yea,  this has me stumped..    As it's a dvd series people will be buying - I sorta need this to be working properly..    I've filmed/edited this project as a favour to a family member who is in the natural health line of work - this is a training package which clients will often need to get to specific chapters of the DVD - and it will be immensly annoying for them to have to stuff around with the remote to get to where they need to be!
    Any ideas?  Thanks heaps!

  • Encore cs5 encode fails

Made avi's in Premiere Pro cs5. When we import them to Encore cs5 and try to Transcode they come up with Encode Failed error.
What is our fix? Trying to encode in Adobe Media but that doesn't always work either.

Exporting to Microsoft AVI with standard settings. New computer, Windows 7 64 bit, quad processor 32 gig ram.

  • "encode failed" encore cs4

I read some of the other problems with this but I have an extra little tid-bit.  If I just import the .avi and burn it with no menu it works fine.  It is when I incorporate a menu and burn that I get "encode failed".  I am not real technical so if some one has a dumbed down answer for me I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks!

The process is simple I did it actually 2 different ways and got the same result.  1st the project was made in Premiere Pro 2.0.  2nd just went to file-->Export-->Movie & that is the file that I imported as an asset into Encore CS4, dropped the .avi into a new timeline and burned a dvd no problem (without a menu).  Then when I got the video approved I went back in, chose new blank menu, put 11 chapters in the time line, then dropped those chapter markers into video buttons on the menu, checked my links, didn't have any errors, went into build dvd, got about 3 sec. in and boom!! "encode failed", what does an aneurism feel like? Does any of this give a better picture?

  • "Encode Failed" whilst building disc in Encore CS4

    Hi folks,
I've built a Premiere Pro CS4 project which, after adding a menu in Encore CS4, I'm trying to output/"Build" a disc from Encore.  The project's assets comprise original AVCHD video from my Sony Handycam and, from these, some After Effects CS4 generated segments (which I first converted from AVCHD to MPEG2 HD using Free HD Converter V1.7).
Although I've previously produced SD DVDs from PPro2, I'm new to CS4, and working with HD video.
Q1 - having built a project from AVCHD video, is it possible in theory to export from Encore to MPEG2-DVD (PAL 16:9)
Q2 - if the answer to Q1 is "yes", do you have any idea why during the build disc process I receive an "Encode Failed" message within a matter of seconds (whilst using export setting MPEG2-DVD PAL High Quality 4Mb VBR 2 Pass in Widescreen 16:9)?
I'm using Windows 7 Professional 32-bit on a laptop with an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P9600 @ 2.66GHz, with 4.00 GB RAM.
    Thanks in anticipation!

  • Why does Adobe Media Encoder fail to export Quicktime Files?

I'm using Adobe Media Encoder CC 2014 on a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit PC.
While exporting the Quicktime variant of H.264 for ATSC television broadcast files, Adobe Media Encoder fails.  Non-Quicktime H.264's render correctly, but some television stations require quicktime.
Troubleshooting reveals the problem only occurs when attempting to make a 1920x1080 H.264 QuickTime file.
Using the same original file (1920x1080), Adobe Media Encoder WILL export a 720x480/486 H.264 MOV file.
More interesting still, it will ALSO export at 1280x720.
Testing this information to it's limits, I found that the cutoff for a successful render is between a frame size of 1610x906 and 1609x905.
Useless, random sizes, I know... but that's the breaking point for Adobe Media Encoder CS6 (6.0.3.1 to be precise) and H.264 Quicktime files.

I'm trying to make a file with the extension ".MOV" using AME's "HD 1080i 29.97, H.264, AAC 48kHz" preset.  AME fails every time with the following message:
    "Encoding Failed
    Export Error
    Error compiling movie.
    Unknown error."
Any other file extension (MP4, M4V, etc.) renders fine.  The issue seems only to happen when attempting to make an MOV file.  It doesn't seem to matter whether I use AME's built-in preset, or customize my own render settings--the problem always happens with any MOV larger than the size I mentioned above.
All of this used to work just fine on the same machine 2 years back with Adobe CS5, previous version of windows and QuicTime.  I've been all through the Adobe and Windows possibilities, so I'm grabbing at straws here with QuickTime maybe having something to do with it.
    Interesting.
Would you happen to know if Adobe has made any changes to its manner of muxing long-address MPEG-4 AVC data to the MOV file container? Since the MP4 and M4V files encode properly, have you tried opening these files in a media player and simply using the "Save As..." option to move the date to an MOV file container without transcoding audio or video data? I.e., is there any obvious relationship between the size of the MOV file encode (less than/greater than 4 GB) as a function of the resolution "break point" previously discovered?

  • Error compiling movie - unknown error - encoding failed

I am running a 2.40 GHz Quad Core with 8GB RAM
I have a deadline on a video project in Premiere Pro CS4 with 4 video timelines and 8 audio timelines with many transitions and key frames with hours on two sequences of work completed and ready to export to an AVI file and burn a DVD.  The 30 minute sequence with only 3 timelines converted to AVI file okay.  The larger sequence with more timelines, keyframes, etc. will not export through Adobe Media Encoder for a Microsoft AVI file or an Uncompressed AVI file - getting the above error message each time.  Getting same errors when exporting a dynamic link to Encore to burn a DVD.
The sequence acted funny when I loaded the fourth video timeline so I deleted it and waiting untill the completion of the sequence to add any of that fourth timeline to that sequence and I did not even try to load the fourth timeline that I wanted to add...

I have been going back & forth with Adobe Support with troubleshooting advice.  I am running a 2.40 GHz Quad Core, 8GB RAM - had to upgrade to Windows Vista 64-bit for computer to recognize more than 2GB RAM, had to purchase Premiere Production Premium CS4 because Adobe no longer supported Premiere Pro 2.0 & Adobe does not support Windows XP-64 bit (so Windows Vista was pushed down my throat...)  I have followed the Adobe instructions to Optimize Windows Vista for Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, I have uninstalled and re-installed the full program more than once.  I have defragmented my computer, I have performed the disk cleanup and deleted all temporary files, etc. to make sure my computer is running optimally.
I have read the other Adobe threads that talk about CS3 & earlier similar error messages, but have found nothing with this particular message.  I have deleted the fourth timeline off of the video and tried to see if that would make it work, but it did not.
Does ANYBODY have any suggestions on how I can further trouble shoot to get this project out or know of a way that I can export this project to another program to get an AVI file and a DVD burned with custom menus...

I am using a 1TB Hard drive with 300 GB free space.  Yes, I always have to delete projects off to make room for new projects.  I have 3 750GB hard drives in my computer in addition to the main C drive that I am using.  Once a project is completed and a client is satisfied, I move the final AVI file off to one of the auxillary drives and delete the entire project from the C drive.  Then I defragment, delete temp files, disk cleanup, you name it to get the drive ready to use for the next project.  I have followed the Adobe protocol for all of this as well as my computer vendor.  I got rid of 95 GB of temp stuff several days ago with the disk cleanup and another 45 GB after deleting another project off my computer...  so looks like I am doing these things..please advise if you know of anything else.
In the meantime, I am going to try to export to the MPEG2 -DVD export to see if this will work.  I did get an uncompressed file of 31 GB created which errored out at 24:24 minutes into the project and the AVI will not play so it is worthless so I am going to delete it.  I went to the timeline at 24.24 minutes and there is nothing unusual about that portion of the clip. This is the largest and most tedious timelines of the project because it is stacked 3 video timelines high with just a a few pieces of the 4th timeline in the project.  24:24 on the timeline is just another keyframe of moving the keyframes up and down to show which video camera version I want visible in that portion of the video - fading in and out of the project with the key frames...
I will let you know if I can get an MPEG2 file.  Will this be a good enough quality to put on a DVD.  This is a standard NTSC 4:3 format video...

  • Encode Failed message during transcode attempts

    Hey guys,
I've got a 45 minute video shot at 1920x1080i on a Everio GZ-HD7-B camera that's due for a review in only a couple of days. I've got the project to a near-final draft in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, and have been working on authoring a DVD in Adobe Encore CS4.
Just a quick note, I'm on a home-built PC with an Intel Core 2 Quad at 2.6 ish GHz with 6GB of memory, 2 hard drives with a combined total of 2TB. On the HD that I'm saving my project in and exporting to I have a little over 100GB in space left.
Now, as far as I can tell I've got the menus (imported from .psd files created in Adobe Photoshop CS4) set up correctly and the flowchart is complete, but when I go to transcode the project and export the project to a [widescreen] DVD image, or even if I select the imported (using Adobe Dynamic Link) sequence and hit "Transcode Now..." I get an error message saying "Encode failed". Thie comes up only seconds after hitting transcode. I've tried changing the encode settings, but nothing changes (perhaps with the exception of one setting that delays the 'encode failed' message by about 15 seconds).
If I try to transcode one of my audio tracks I also get the message "Could not create image buffer", and hitting 'ok' only bring up the same error message again.
Is there anything I'm doing wrong? Can I get Encore to play nice? If I want to bypass using the adobe dynamic link feature and export from Premiere Pro, what settings should I use to preserve image quality, allow me to make the disc, and perhaps even to preserve the chapter locations?
Thanks, and if any more information will help resolve this error please let me know. Thanks!

    Hey guys,
Quick update: I've tried exporting from Premiere Pro using the media encoder into an MPEG-II DVD [Widescreen] format. I then imported the Video and Audio output files as a new timeline in Encore. Transcoding the audio was successful, but when I try to build the DVD image I get the same "Encode Failed" message.
Oh and I don't have internet on my editing computer.
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    W

  • Encode Failed

Yes, the infamous ENCODE FAILED message.
I've been having problems right along trying to use Dynamic Link to export from Premiere Pro CS6 to Encore CS6. So I started exporting the project first and then importing the resulting file into Encore as a timeline, which has mostly worked.
So far, so good. But now I have made the switch from SD video to HD (ACVHD; 60i), and am trying to burn a DVD of my first HD project. I exported the Premiere project as an MPEG2, then imported the file in Encore as a timeline. Then I got the "Encode Failed" message, and I have no idea how to proceed.
My computer: Acer Aspire laptop, quadcore, 64-bit. There is plenty of empty space on the hard drive for the Encore project.
Premiere Pro output settings used to encode the MPEG: NTSC; 1280x720; 29.97fps; Quality 5.0; De-Interlaced; VBR; 2 pass; min 4.00; Target 10.00; Max 18.50 Mbps; MPEG; 384 Kbps; 16 bit; Stereo
Source settings: 1920x1080 (1.0); 29.97 fps; upper; 48000 Khz; Stereo
The resulting MPEG filesize is about 4.5GB.
    Encore project settings:
    Auth Mode: DVD
    TV Standard: NTSC
Transcode Settings: Codec MPEG-2; 720x480; Frame Rate 29.97; Lower  Field First; Dolby Digital; Max A/V Bitrate 7.0Mbps.
Am I missing something obvious? I'm not experienced with HD, or really all that much with Encore. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thank you.

    There were 2 files...a .m2v and a .wav.
    That is correct.
    the .wav said untranscoded.
That is correct. Most users want a dolby (ac3) file, and that is why Encore wants to transcode it. In earlier versions, the only free dolby encoder was in Encore. You can encode to ac3 in Premiere, but it is not an issue.
I tried to transcode the .wav, but got an encode failed message.
That is instructive and points to the audio in Premiere/source as the issue. Do you have any (even one frame long) gaps in the audio?
I then tried to build the DVD, and again got the encode failed message.
All this means, since Encore will transcode any untranscoded assets before the rest of the build, is that the wav was not transcoded.
When you export from Premiere now, you can do an audio only export, wav or ac3. As long as you don't change the length of the audio. If you do, I'd export it all again.

  • Another "encode failed" problem

I've been sifting through all these posts but I can't seem to find help for this.
I have CS4 Encore, Windows 7, I've done lots of stuff in this software and never had a problem, but now for some reason, it does not want to encode this file no matter how I run it through. I've imported directly from Premeire, I've used media encoder in every type, mpeg2, everything. Nothing works. Perhaps my CS4 is now corrupt? No matter what I run though, it starts up then gives me the "encode failed" error.  Let me know what other info you need, thanks for any assistance.

I tried run as administrator but it did nothing. I'm running Win 7, not xp on this computer.
I gave 805 free gb left on my hd, so it's not a drive problem.
Where can I copy the hardware details to show you?
The thing is I haven't changed anything since I last used encore - I'm not sure why I'd be having this issue now.

  • Why Encode Failed in APPro CS4

Why Encode Failed in APPro CS4. Used Win XP with SP3. I have made several DVDs without any critical problem before using CS4 PPro & Encore. Now it has given-up on me. Following things been done at present. CS4 is installed in C;\ and Project files saved in D:\(separate drive) 1. Removed all unwanted programs including Virus program, etc., This machine only has APPro CS4. All firewalls been disabled. The audio and video plays ok on time line of APProCS4 with little bit jerky (of course I was expecting this on a Pentium4). C;\drive been formatted recently due to these problems and also defragmnted all drives. Made No screen savers working, no wall paper, Swap file >>virtual mem adjusted for D:\ , optimised the desktop by selecting,"adjust for best performance" 2. APProCS4 project saved ok. It's a 40minute program recorded on XDCAM EX1. Used File>>Adobe Dynamic Link >>Send to Encore ok.. 3.Used very short filenames and sub directories to save on Encore. Eg. file name used "HanOne" 4.On Encore, Selecting End Action and TitleButton selections were done ok. 5. When saved on Encore, file size was 2.48GB and 2.22GB were free. Audio:PCM,standard: PAL 6. When on Encore, Choose File >> Build >> Disc (to make the DVD), after few seconds time it shows " Encode Failed " while start to Transcode .prproj(video) file in Build Progress Window. I would appreciate if you could suggest anymore things I have to try other than above. Thanks

Unless I missed something, it sounds like the failure is in Encore. If so, posting to the Encore Forum would be the ideal. There, give full details of your Encore Project, such as number of Timelines, and how you have placed your Assets onto those Timelines. Give details on those Assets, and how you have Imported/Linked those to Encore would be appreciated.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • "Encode Failed" Error HELP ASAP

No matter what I try, how short I make the file name, even taking the title out, I STILL get the error message "Encode failed" when I am trying to Build my project. I have 2 movie files I HAVE to get onto a DVD tonight or tomorrow morning at the latest. I will have a menu file I would perfer to use, but if not i'm fine with the 2 videos just playing right after eachother. It is for a permiere and I HAVE to test a DVD (the only format they will accept) at the small theater.
    HELLLLLLP!!!!
I am using Encore CS4 for the first time so PLEASE dumb it down for me Thanks

  • Encode Failed exporting to DVD but not Blu-Ray

I'm using Dynamic Link and tried both pushing from PPro and pulling from Encore, when building DVD I get Encode Failed, but when building Blu-Ray no problems. I really need a DVD version of this, any ideas?

Did you transcode before building? If not, try that.
If that does not work, export from Premiere as MPEG2-DVD, and import the resulting m2v/wav files as timeline. In other words, skip the dynamic link since you are having a problem.
Yes, you will have to calculate the bitrate. If you are able to transcode the dynamic link, but not to build, you can look at the properties of the transcoded file, and match that on export from Premiere. Or use a bitrate calculator, such as:
