Encore encoding rolling titles incorrectly.

I've got an approximately 1 hour video - a dance recital. I've got rolling titles at the end stretched out to 3% speed, to cover an entire song. The titles are off to the right side and on the left there is a montage of clips in a resized frame.
Snap below. And video inserted.
The video in this montage has no filters, just third party transitions.
It's done this for MP4 and DVD encoding.... but only on a two pass. One pass encodes fine.
Here are the encoding specs:
Mpeg2-DVD : NTSC match attributes
2 pass VB, use previews.
The MPeg4 was the Vimeo HD preset with a 2 pass and use previews.
I didn't change any other settings.
When I encode with one pass the titles are correct. If I go to two pass, you see what happens, both in this still and in the video clip.
Anyone understand why this is happening?
Is it usually a big compromise in quality to only have one pass?
Thanks for all your help.
Jessica

ok....to make matters worse......the video that's on Vimeo...actually plays correctly. Huh?????
You can see that the thumbnail has the double titles...but, when you play it, it's ok. It's not ok if I play it with VLS or Media player on my machine. What the heck could be happening????
I'm not producing a one pass, but I'm going to put the test clip in Encore and see how it produces/plays through that..

  • Uncompressed 23.976 progressive avi and Encore encoding looks like crap!

Since i'm getting an "internal software error" when I try to burn a DVD from an m2v/wav I export out of After Effects; i've now exported an uncompressed AVI so I can let Encore encode to hopefully fix this problem.
    So this 1.54gb AVI is 720x480, 16:9, 23.976fps, PROGRESSIVE.
When I import it into Encore and throw it on the timeline, it looks, and plays beautifully. (i've got a mediavault raid) :-D
I then go into the transcode settings and set it to this:
    23.976 [fps], Progressive, Quality 5.0
    192 [kbps] 48kHz, Dolby Digital
    VBR, 2Pass, Min 1.50, Target 7.00, Max 9.00 [Mbps]
After a quick encode (Dual- Dual Core Xenon), I play back the video, and it has a pulse. It jitters at a regular rate, bump..bump..bump..bump, the text jumps as if its jumping fields. It is overall just horrible, nasty, etc.
So i'm wondering if the MainConcept encoder that Encore is equipped with is just garbage, or i'm doing something wrong. I'm (this close) to going and buying Media Cleaner, or some other aftermarket encodr.
I've got a job to do, and I hate having to trick the software, or change my workflow to get it to work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

We'll i've tried both and have not come up with any luck. I've now tried TMPENC, and its pumping out some GREAT looking m2v's. Right now I have to get the settings down, so I dont get an overstream error.
Also, I've noticed that it doesnt mind that its a seperate audio/video stream as it did with my after effects exported mpeg2-dvd files.
I'll keep you posted on my success (lets hope :) )

  • Rolling title flicker in PE11 DVD playback

Hi. I'm a mostly successful user of PE11 for Mac (graduated unceremoniously from PE10). This question is about flickering despite the flicker filter being fully deployed. It seems this phenomenon is harder to suppress in PE11 than in 10?
Specifically... some JPEG and TIFF stills retain considerable flicker even on high anti-flicker setting. Some of these are 600 dpi+.  Should the dimensions of stills be a certain value?  If so, what?
A soft flicker along horizontal lines seems hard to suppress in video also. SD from Canon camcorder, 24 fps, transferred as mp4s, and dragged as such into the timeline. The flicker does not appear pre- or post-render but appears on late-model flatscreen TV when played back on DVD.  Could this be a DVD burn problem or even a TV problem?
Rolling titles created within PE11 appear to be flicker-filterable, but the flicker seems scarcely reduced on DVD playback (white titles, plain font, reasonable slow speed, abt 40 pitch).
Preset: NTSC, 16:9 (can provide more if needed)
I saw a similar post by a PC user from 2012 but the thread apparently died before it was resolved.
    Thanks a ton in advance!!

I am strictly an Elements Windows user, so I would ask some of the following questions from that perspective as I view your Premiere Elements Mac situation.
    a. Does your Premiere Elements have an Anti-Flicker slider (0 to 1.0) in
version 10: Properties Palette/Motion Panel expanded
version 11: Applied Effects/Motion Panel expanded
If so, have you used it for what you are calling flicker?
    b. Are your photos all from cameras? Are any freeze frames from video? If the latter, De-interlace may be in order.
    c. I have not run into rolling titles that filter so please describe how you are creating these rolling titles...Add Image, duration of title, font style, font size. How are you telling the different between the rolling title flickering versus what is below it in the tracks flickering? Or is there nothing below it?
    d. Something to look into
The flicker does not appear pre- or post-render but appears on late-model flatscreen TV when played back on DVD.  Could this be a DVD burn problem or even a TV problem?
If you play back a store purchased movie in DVD-VIDEO format on this TV, do you see this flicker?
    Just some thoughts for now.

  • Stop and fade out a rolling title

How can you stop and fade out a rolling title, if at all?
    Thank you.
    Pal

Here's an alternative approach - it's great to have alternatives! I believe that to "stop and fade out a rolling title" is what the Roll/Crawl Options box is all about. Here's what I do:
    Create a Default Roll Title.
In Roll/Crawl Options click on Start Off Screen (Preroll will disable) and enter the following values: Ease-In: 0, Ease-Out: 50 and Postroll: 100
    Leave End Off Screen unticked
Make a few space lines before and after whatever it is you want to have stay on the screen at the end so that it fits in the middle. In my case that's usually ME! :-)
Your titles (as long as you like) will start off screen and then they will roll and roll until that last block appears and slows down - the Ease-Out value. That will stay on the screen for the Postroll value duration. Usually I have a normal disolve transition to do the fadeout. All done in just a few mouse clicks.
(The above values are what I use 99% of the time but you might wish to experiment.)

  • Boris Crawl/ Roll Titles not smooth - Help anyone?

Does any of you FCP pros out there know how to get the roll or crawl titles to come out smooth?
I'm using the Boris Crawl in FCP 5.04 and I checked the deflicker option (not sure if that made matters better or worse... ?). The roll titles look fine on the computer monitor, but they look bad in the DVD version on my TV monitor. (at the moment I don't have a camera or another way of connecting the monitor directly to the computer). The crawl titles look bad in both places... a bit shaky and flickering, making it hard to read them.
Is there a better way? or is this the best FCP can put out?

    Hi dndn,
I've been generally unhappy with credit scrolls in FCP over the years, so what I do when I have to create credit scrolls is make a 640x3000 JPG file in Photoshop and type my credits in there. Then I just use the motion controls in FCP to make it appear as if this image scrolls from -3000 through +3000. I never get any sort of pixelation or flicker, and I could swear it scrolls a little smoother than the scroll generator in Boris, LiveType or FCP. If you want to contact me I'll be glad to send you a template that you can look at. My e-mail is [email protected]

  • PRE7 - Program crashes as soon as rolling title is selected

    XP-Pro/2GB RAM/Quad Q6600/SATAII disks
After fiddling around with various settings, I have now got the program to edit AVCHD reasonably reliably, and have edited a 8 minute film with AVCHD 1920 x 1080 footage plus a few 10MPx JPEG stills.
I created rolling end-titles which work OK. I now want to make some changes to the titles. As soon as I select the rolling title the program crashes and exits. I have tried creating a new title rather than editing the existing, and even starting a new project with only the title. The result is always the same.
    Any ideas?

    1. I attach a screen print of the Processes in a Word document. Is that the way to do it?
I do not know about the .DOC, but I know that a TXT file would work fine. Because of Word Macros, .DOC's might be blocked. Do not see an attachment yet.
2.Project and Scratch files are all folders together on the data, not the system disk.  PRE7 is installed on the System disk.
    This is good.
3.I'll need reminding how to find Virtual Memory and Page File info.
Control Panel>System>Advanced>Performance/Settings>Advanced>Virtual Memory/Change (do not change it, just read what it says). The exact path might differ by OS version. Syntax may change, but will be similar.
    4. Some history on the USB oddity. Before I installed PRE7, I had a problem after updating my drivers. The latest VIA chip drivers for USB loaded fine (apparently) but thereafter all the USB 2.0 ports were turned in fact to USB 1.0
Many have reported all sorts of problems with the VIA chipset. This is an odd one, but not totally surprising, based on so many other issues.
The only oddity thereafter is the one I have described. The disk identification numbers are displayed in Device Manager/Disk Drives e.g "Hitachi HDP725050GLA360" but nothing else. If however I plug a USB card reader in, this appears not only as a Mass Storage Device under USB Controllers but also as four "GENERIC STORAGE Device USB Device" under Disk Drives alongside the real disks. It works fine.
The reason that your card reader shows up as multiple drives, is that its a multi-reader and has basically an identity for each type of card that it can read. One of mine shows up as 8 drives, and my HP All-in-one printer shows up as a drive, because it has a card reader.
On booting, the two SATA II disks are correctly identified as such in the BIOS. They run from the onboard chip as does the IDE Disk. The IDE Disk came from another computer but all the Disks were  installed at the same time when I built the computer.
This is good and rules out a BIOS issue with regard to the HDD's.
The only other possibility is that I downloaded my PRE7 as a trial version. However I didn't "buy" this installation but bought the boxed set and installed that. My recollection is that I uninstalled the original version, but there seem to be other installation folders that don't belong to the "proper" installation. Is PRE7 getting confused somewhere?
Now, this might make a difference. I have far less experience with PE, and also have never done a trial of any Adobe software, but...
In PrPro CS2 - CS3 and CS4, the trial could not just be removed. Once it was uninstalled, the appropriate Adobe CleanScript had to be run (sometimes 3 - 4 times), before the full-paid version could be installed. There were many issues, if one did not do this. The Adobe CleanScripts were available by version number, i.e. CS3 to clean up after the CS3 trial, before installing the CS3 full version. This was very important, and had to be done. Where I am in the dark is I have never heard of an Adobe CleanScript for PE - any version. I also could not find one on the Adobe site. Maybe someone can help me out here.
Given the problems that you are experiencing. I would back up all of your Projects, including the Scratch Disks for those Projects. Unless you've been moving your Assets into the Project folder structure, they should be good to stay where they are.
Next, I'd uninstall PE (did you have PSE trial too?), and then manually remove any "other" Adobe PE folders (be careful if you have other Adobe programs, and limit yourself to JUST the Adobe PE folders.
Run a Registery Cleaner, like CCleaner several times. You want the Registry Cleaner part of that program, as it does other cleanup duties. Right now, it's just cleaning the Registry. Once 100% clean, reinstall PE, and test.
    Good luck,

  • No second page in rolling title - need help with long title

I am creating my first rolling title in Premiere Pro v1.0.
I have read/watched the tutorials on creating a rolling title and have successfully created my own.
My problem is that I have several pages of prepared text that I want to have roll over the screen and I only can get the first page.
I have the text in Notepad, I copy it to the Clipboard using Control-A, Control-C.
I come into the Title Designer, select the Type Tool, and press Control-V.  The first page of the text is inserted into the Area Type box.
I then save the work and preview the results, but I am only getting the roll of the text for the first page.
Can someone please point out to me what I am doing wrong or direct me to some documentation/tutorial that shows how to insert a long amount of text into the Title Designer and have it roll?
    Thanks

I currently do not have Photoshop available to me and I was really hoping for a simpler method to do this.
That is why I mentioned method #2. It relies totally on Titler. Other than doing X number of Titles, and then adjusting their timings and spacings with Motion>Position Keyframes, it takes all of about 5 mins. to do. You can first break your one very long Title into logical segments, and then still use Ctrl+c/Ctrl+v to make each Title. Note that you can get more text into a Title, than what you see in Titler. It does not have a "scrolling" feature, but using Ctrl+c/Ctrl+v, you really do not need to see everything, so long as you edited it in Word/whatever. I'm not sure of what the limit to what can actually fit onto one Title, before it truncates, but seem to recall about 32 lines working with 48 pt. san-serif type for me. Could be off a line, or two.
If you need more detail on the multiple-Title method, let me know. It is far simpler to do, than to type about. Also, if you are not yet comfortable with Motion>Position Keyfreame work, now is the perfect time to learn it, as you WILL embrace it. I do not think I have used either the Roll, or Crawl Preset in four years - so very little control. That's why I said you'd go crazy trying to use those for this task. If I had to do it with the Presets, I'd charge the client 3x, just for the aggravation of having to do so.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
If you have any questions on where to break your long credits, don't hesitate to send me the Word, txt, whatever file, and I'll look at it and make recs. for you. E-mail is listed in my profile.

  • Roll title / end title

    Hi out there,
I have a problem with my end title (roll title)
For a smoother flow, I rose the blur and changed the frame number. But it's not rolling smooth... What can I do?
    Thanks for answering me!

Afraid I'm not familiar with what's available in non-English tutorials.
As Christina suggested, it's possible the issue is related to a mis-match in settings. In FCP, you can verify sequence settings by hitting Command 0. In Motion, the project settings are available in the Edit tab's listing; there is a variety of XDCAM PAL settings to choose from. It's also where you can set the project's duration.
If you simply add the scroll behavior, the credits will start off-screen, with the first line of text appearing after a half second and the last line exiting at the top a half second before end of the timeline. If you want to adjust the timing, use the de-flicker filter, etc., select the scroll behavior in the project pane and the HUD controls should appear; if it does not, hit HUD in the toolbar.
    Good luck.

  • Rolling title question

i have a rolling title--it's has a star wars crawl theme. i would like about 5 seconds inbetween my very last paragraph--- so that the words are completely off the screen before the last one comes on. If i do an entire new title screen--- it is TOO much time.... i tried to just add spacces in the first title but that didn't work either... any suggestions

Sometimes it is easier to make a static title and use Motion to animate it with keyframes.

  • Roll Titles

    Hi All
how in the f&^) does one do a roll title in FCP? I have added the text and credit roll function, then typed up my list but... a. cant seem to see or edit the roll title to the points or postion or speed i want it to roll at ...my text does not even appear in the viewer or canvas?? and cant seem to edit it to duration??
please could someone go over how to do a credit roll in FCP on ver6 as explained to a 12 year old
    thanks in advance

Yeah thanks guys lengthening and short duration is the key, but it drives me crazy that when i make a change to the roll title and try and reset the effect sometimes it does not appear on the screen and needs alot of shouting and swearing before it somehow appears on screen again...

  • Rolling Titles appear to have an interlace problem on blue ray

    Hey guys!
I have a sequence with h264 footage in 1080i 25 (pal) and created rolling titles using the rolling titles default. Then I rendered out a MPEG2 Blue Ray with maximum render quality and best video quality and used Toast to burn a blue ray. Everything is great when viewed on TV except the rolling titles. They seem to "jitter". The frame rate is 25 in the rolling title sequence I generated. Is there a way to change/see any other settings that could cause such a problem?
    Thanks in advance!

    I give a +1 for Jim's suggestion.
I cannot recall the last time that I used the Titler's Roll, or Crawl Preset.
Good luck, and hope that Keyframes (remember, you can then adjust Interpolation and Velocity) fixes things for you.

  • How do you create a rolling title that ends on a still image of the title?

How do you create a rolling title that ends on a still image of the title?

Here's the help page that describes using the tab stops:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/4.0/WS35CA53B6-EAFF-499a-A600-DCD85686354Da.html
Let me know if that's clear as mud and I'll try to shed more light on the subject.
One thing that isn't specified/clarified/whatever (and was the biggest stumbling block for me when I first tried this in PPro 1.5) is that the ruler for the tab stops is zeroed at the edge of the text box, and tab stops ONLY work in text boxes (or "text area," however you please). At any rate, you have to position that ruler so that the zero point is at the left edge of your text box, and then the rest of the instructions in the help doc will make sense.
Also, it's useful to show the tab markers while you work. Just go "Title > View > Tab Markers" and you're good.
    Hope this helps!
As a side, I have found that this one feature is really the best and most useful part of the PPro titler (and also, just about the only function in the titler that WON'T cause your system to crash on a regular basis).

  • Jerky rolling titles

I created a rolling title. The usual end credits: from bottom to top. It has a rithmic jerky quality. It does not roll smooth. I've tried different speeds (lengths), all different field settings. Nothing helps.
The problem is the same wether I place the title over a video track or weather I place it straight onto the timeline. It renders out jerky. In other words, I can't finish my project in Premiere Pro CS4 because right now I can't seem to create a smoothly rolling end credit.
    Any ideas?

I agree with Jim. I always Keyframe Effect>Motion>Position for my Rolls, and for my Crawls.
Hit Enter, to Render to check, and use Ease-In/Ease-Out, or Continuous Bezier for the Keyframes.
    Good luck,

  • Rolling title with pictures

I want to create rolling credits with a picture of each actor alongside the actor's name. What is the easiest way to add rolling images to the rolling title?

    Tim,
One was would be to create your credits in Titler, and then add a Logo, which would be the thumbnail of the actor.
Another would be to create your Title w/ embedded Image in Photoshop, Save_As PSD, and Import that into PrPro, then use Motion>Position Keyframing to do the animation.
Yet another would be to do the thumbnail as a PiP in the Title (above it, on a higher Video Track), then animate the credits Title with Motion>Position Keyfarmes, and do the same for that Image, so that they move together. You should be able to Keyframe, say the Title, then Rt-click that, choosing Copy. Next, Select the PiP Clip, Rt-click it, and choose Paste Attributes. [I've never tried this with a Title and a Still Image, but will experiment, in case there is some limitation there, but do not think there will be.]
    Good luck,
    Hunt
[Edit] In my test, those Motion>Position Keyframes Copied over perfectly.

  • Encore "Encode failed" randomly

Two full days (and partly nights) trying everything to solve this problem, reading every single topic about that on the forum... I thought I'd better ask a question to the community before throwing my PC  through the window...
Basically here is the history of my problem :
I created an Encore project, containing 58 videos, organized in 14 menus.
I checked the project : no errors.
I tried to build an iso image : everything went well for 10 minutes, and all of a sudden Encore crashed.
I understood that this comes from the transcoding of the videos and that I had to do it manually.
As this point you should know that my videos are created in Premiere Pro CC, encoded (through "Export/Media") with Adobe Media Encoder with the MPEG-DVD format and PAL-DV pressets. When I imported them first in Encore CS6, as timelines, the video asset (MPEG video, m2v format) and the audio asset (wav audio, wav format) have a "don't transcode" status.
I right click on each individual asset, modify the transcode settings to "automatic", and ask for "trancode now".
And here is the issue : sometimes it would transcode, and sometimes NOT ! Just randomly...
At the end, as you can expect, I have 1/3rd of my assets trancoded and 2/3rd not !!! Frustrating................
    I tried the following :
Edit / preference / general / transcode asset using adobe media encoder application -----> doesn't solve my problem
Create a new projet, import only one timeline and try to transcode  -------> sometimes it would transcode (then I can manually locate transcoded file in my usual projet by right click on the asset / locate the trancoded file), but sometime not....... (I told you in the title, this is random...)
Encode with Adobe Media Encoder with an .avi and try the all process again -----> sometimes it would transcode, sometimes not (but still I miss transcoded time lines)
Checked the titles for length issues, special character issues, etc. -------> found no particular issue (at least comparing the files, I see no explanation of the randomness of the problem)
Right click / Run as administrator  ------> doesn't solve my problem
Free space in my C driver (now I have 27GB of free space, I guess it's enought for Encore to work, right ?)
... and a lot of other stuff, which I won't list here...
AND I STILL HAVE HALF OF MY ASSETS UNTRANSCODED !!!!
    Technical details
    .m2v file (generated by Adobe Media Encoder with MPEG-DVD format and PAL-DV pressets) : 720*576, 25 frames/sec.
.wav file (generated by Adobe Media Encoder with MPEG-DVD format and PAL-DV pressets):  1536 kbps
the original material is mostly .MOD files, but also .avi (it should have no influence because from two .MOD files originated videos, one would transcode and the other not)
    PC DELL Precision M4400
Intel core Duo CPU T9600 @2.8GHz
    8GB RAM
    Windows seven professional
You see, it is saturday night, 9 P.M. I've been in front of my PC for more that two days now with no success. I just surrender at this point and hope that one of you guys can find a solution for me. And to be honnest, I hope that this is just a stupid mistake from my side, this would mean that I won't have to spend again hours on this topic.
Looking forward to hear from you all !!!
    Jacques

As Richard has explained, when you had your assets as "do not transcode," you should have left them alone. with the exception that they might fill the disk up, but none of the errors you have had point to that.
Although normally, you'd set the project format to a3c audio, and the wav files would show "untranscoded."
You should always run Encore "as administrator." It may have nothing to do with the errors you are seeing, but it invites odd problems. Just run as administrator and take that off the table.
The specific error you are getting has most often been due to filename length. Max is  80 characters including spaces. I can't imagine after the troubleshooting you've done that they are this long, but who knows! Yes, special characters etc can be a problem. I don't recall the issue, but I would also look at file path length/depth.
Look also for gaps in any of the Premiere sequences.
    > Free space in my C driver (now I have 27GB of free space, I guess it's enought for Encore to work, right ?
No. Temporary files/caches/transcoded files can quickly swell things. Do you have a separate drive for the video files, etc?
