Encore hangs while building DVD

While building a DVD (assets exported from Premiere as MPEG2-DVD) Encore 4.0 hangs midway through the process.
It goes entirely through the transcoding audio phase, then goes to "writing files" and almost immediately messages "cancelling", then "ejecting disc." It kicks out the DVD, which doesn't appear to have any data on it, and I get a Not Responding in Encore. The only way to get out is to use the three-fingered salute to Task Manager. I'm running Vista 64.
Different project, but same technique immediately before this, I had no problem. Same brand of DVD-R. And i've tried at least 3 discs to make sure it wasn't disc error.
Little help?
Thanks.
Roorider

roorider, I here you.  However, consider this:  I love imgburn so much I have never tried to burn a disk from Encore!  (Still CS3, but I don't think it would matter.)  But I agree; it should work, and apparently has for you till this event.  Something must have changed in this project or your system.  Windows updates?  A file somewhere corrupt, etc.
John's strategy, my preference and that of others for imgburn notwithstanding, is also a troubleshooting and workaround option.

  • Encore freezes when building dvd

    Hi
I've got a problem. When I click "build dvd" in adobe encore, the program should pop up a window where I can click to build to dvd, to folder etc.
Well the window pops up, but then the whole program freezes, en the mouse turns into a sand glass. I've tried to reinstall, but that didn't work.
    can somebody help me?

After spending the last 48 hours trying to get through the same type of issues I am ready to throw CS3 out the window. I have had about 6 different scenarios with problems and error messages. None of the messages are on the adobe website, in the manuals and can't even be found on Google. I will try to form a "Good Forum question" when my patience has returned and my blood pressure drop. But Mr. Smith - you try dealing with lock ups and reboots to just put together a one hour video with your new $2000 software package and keep calm and collected enough to gracefully ask a proper forum question! I feel their pain!

  • Encore CS5 freezes when building DVD

    Hi!
Just spent lots of money on CS5 and got lots of problems. Cannot build DVD at all. Even 50 sec. HDV, DSLR or any kind. Encore becomes frozen after few min of transcoding.
    dual xeon
    Nvidia quadro 4800
    12 gb ram
RAID 0   2 T plus multiple single drives.
Matrox mini, I have installed just the card but not the software since it is not working with  CS5.
My previous versions of CS3 and CS4 worked fine. I would say that CS4 was much more stable.
    Any comments?
    Thank you in advance.

I may have had a breakthrough in that, after removing several media converter apps, I now seem to have dependable DVD production. I thrashed around and removed a few things before I checked again, but my suspicion is that ffmpeg might be the culprit, (but I don't have time to reinstall it to verify that notion now).
I'm happy if that fixes the problem, but still can't help but feel that it's a program flaw if its able to zone out so silently, without an error message, or even reporting that it's not responding, (but just perpetually idling). That was a frustrating and erie problem that I hope can a least be improved on to the point of crashing with some kind of diagnostic if not surmounting whatever the conflict is. So far, 4 DVDs without a hitch. Yea.

  • "internal software error: \VCD\Primo\Primo Target.cpp,line 54" - Encore build DVD

When I'm ready with my Encor proj. to build the DVD, I go in the menu to Build, a popup comes up withe the next text "internal software error: \VCD\Primo\Primo Target.cpp, line 54" and it stops. Building disc is impossible. I've tried it with another (old) project, which is ready (and which I've already made a DVD) it gives the same error. The same error occurs trying to build a folder.

The only google hits for this error are this thread and the other one you found.

  • DVD SP 2.05 hangs while opening file

DVD Studio Pro 2.0.5 hangs while opening a project file that until recently worked fine.
The "hang" seems to accur while DVD SP is opening the project's menus. The dialog box "Loading Project" appears and progresses until it reaches "Loading Menus", then it hangs until I click "Cancel", then DVD SP crashes.
I trashed DVD SP's prefs, no success. I even tried to move the project's menu files offline, without success - DVD SP even hangs when the referenced assets are not available to it. All project files that are variations of the main file also hang, all at the same time. I don't think the project files are corrupted, more likely something wrong with DVD SP? Any ideas? Reinstall? I'm a little worried about the project files - lots of work is at stake...
    Thanks

Previously when this has happened for folks it has been related to font management. If you have turned off a font that DVDSP uses as a default for the menus then it won't be able to create the menu when it loads. The solution is to turn on the fonts again.
Are you using font management software?

  • Encore and Premiere CS3 hanging while opening - EMERGENCY

I try opening Premiere or Encore on my Mac they just hang while opening ANY project file that is dated before today. I can make a new project, save it and open it...but any project made before today freezes both programs. They start loading the project and then it just hangs, with the colored wheel staying on screen until Force Quit is used. I have months of work done on this project and am literally 2-3 days away from completion, and backup projects won`t load either.  I need some serious help on getting this resolved before I lose my mind and seriously contemplate quitting film altogether.
I have 3 gigs of ram, 2 x 2.66 Ghz dual core Intel xeon and CS3

One thing to try... create a new project and then import the old project into the new project

  • PrePro 5.5 & Encore Hang when scale to frame

I just tried to create a DVD made up of several segments taken from YouTube downloads.   I first loaded all the segments into a timeline In Premiere Pro 5.5, and for each segment I selected to scale to frame.  The segments all played fine in Premiere Pro.  However, when I used dynamic link to transfer to Encore to set up the DVD, Encore hung while it was opening the files.   I later when back to Premiere Pro and loaded each segment individually, set it to scale to frame, and then exported in DV Widescreen format.  Two of the segments worked OK.  The third one hung the Adobe Media Encoder.   I used Nero 10 Vision to scale the one that failed, then created my timeline again with the DV saved files.  Everything loaded OK in Encore except that I got an error message during the transfer something like could not locate transcode presets.  Strangely, I noticed that I now had about 19 seconds of blank space at the very begining of the timeline.  I set up the DVD anyway. It previewed fine in Encore.   However, when I tried to build the DVD, the program stopped with an error that there was an incompatable size at about 19 seconds into the timeline.   The only way I got it to work was to take all of the raw video segments, scale them to DV wide size using Nero 10 Vision, then created the timeline using the Nero files.  This time, when I used dynamic link I still got the transcode preset error, but I had no gaps, and the DVD I made built OK.
I thought that Premiere Pro 5.5. was supposed to handle all the size compatabilities.   I defined the sequence in PP 5.5 as DV wide format, and (orginally) selected scale to frame for each of them.   It seems like PP must not be scaling the files correctly.  To make matters worse, whatever it does to the files can hang up (not give an error, just lock up) both Media Encorder and the transfer to Encore.   Has anyone had these issues?  Is there anything I did wrong?   Note that the segments that caused me problems were all downloaded from YouTube in .mp4 format, and they were smaller than DV in size (like 480 x 270).  Premiere Pro 5.5 would not import the flv versions, so they must have been encoded with the Sorenson Spark codex that PP 5.5. does not support.
    Thanks.

Thanks.   I am not that experienced and did not think about a media cache.   I will try that the next time.  However, I was trying to get them all to the DV resolution (I know one loses something on scale up) because I understand that is required for a DVD.

  • Building dvd fails

    Hi All,
I've been experiencing a problem for a while where exporting an encore project to either dvd folder or ISO will cause errors when attempting to burn the resulting folder/ISO.
I've successfully burnt direct to a dvd-r but would like to use the other options more than burning direct.
First of all, there are no errors reported when creating a DVD Folder (VOBs etc) or ISO - just when burning them to a disc.
The errors are different - when attempting to build the dvd in nero with vob files there is a "reallocation error" failed message that appears. I've read up about this type of error quite a bit, using FixVTS and also creating new bup files etc using another tool (can't remember the name off the top of my head). Both of these do not iradicate the error. Even if I ignore this error another appears stating "there was a minor error that has occured. The burn may not be successful". I've burnt one disc before to see if it worked but obviously... no joy.
Creating an ISO completes sucessfully but buring one is a different problem. I've created a 6GB disc to burn on dual layer media. I've used nero and also imgburn to burn the iso, on two seperate machines (using the same burner). The burn completes without error but is not readable in a dvd drive (xbox 360, has dual layer support), it's been seen once where the disc is not recognised in the drive that burnt it!
The burner is pretty reliable other than burning files created within Encore (2.0). For the last month I believed it was either my OS (XP SP3 and XP SP2) or the media/drive. I have a couple of other tests to try yet - like burning the files using another burner but just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. I'm very close to buying another drive - which may turn out to be a red herring.
    Cheers,
    MJ

    >I've used nero and also imgburn to burn the iso, on two seperate machines (using the same burner). The burn completes without error but is not readable in a dvd drive (xbox 360, has dual layer support),
2 problems immediately leaop to mind here.
1 - If you are using DVD-R DL, then an X-Box will never see that at all.
Format is not supported - from memory they might read DVD+R DL.
2 - Nero. Never use this if you can help it, especially if burning from a folder.
Other questions that would be good to know the answers to are:
1 - What brand of media are you using? DL is notoriously picky, and I would never use anything other than Verbatim DVD+R DL.
2 - What brand of burner are you using, and what speed are you burning at? Again, DL is often rated at 2.4X maximum, although newer combinations of drive/media can go as fast as 4x.

  • Building DVD.....out of memory message!!!!!!

I am having a problem with building my DVD in Encore 2.0. I go to build DVD and it starts to transcode....after a short while, an out of memory window pops up. I had this happen before during my actual set up for the DVD. I guess there were too many menus open at once, but now that I am trying to build my DVD, it is doing it again. Am I doing something wrong? I have 3GB of RAM so I know that is not the problem.

Among other problems subtitles, etc, we had a lot of problems building on Encore dvd 2.0. The project kept crashing during building. We went through the entire Troubleshooting list of what to do when the system crases and it probably helped (especially clearing the start-up tray), but the project was still crashing. Through trial and error, and asking around, we discovered we shouldn't have backed-up our project (using the Save As feature) on the same drive. I'm not sure why. We were only doing that in the first place because we'd had so much trouble with the project. After we stopped backing up the project on the same drive, the building ceased to give us memory, errors and crashing problems.
    I hope this helps!

  • Encore Hangs on Scrubbing

The experts on this forum always say to explain in as much detail as possible, so here is everything I can think of. I am going to try the tips in "Optimize performance of Adobe Encore DVD (on windows xp)" found on this forum. Otherwise, I didn't see anything about this general problem as it effects me. I am neither a computer nor video professional - but I am a decent video editor and have authored some nice DVDs in the past. It's one "every-now-and-then" component of my business. I just really wish I could use Encore without having to restart the program so often.
I am working with MPEG2 files. They started as VOB, but were exported as MPEG in VideoReDo. They are recognized as DVD compliant  (do not transcode) by Encore. I am using Encore DVD 1.5 on the following system:
3.4GHz Pentium 4 550 with HTT (shows up as two 3.4 GHz proc's), 800 MGz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache, 1GB PC-3200 400MGz DDR, ATI Radeon X600 XT 256 MB, system on WD 250GB 7200 rpm SATA, storage on Promise 2+0 Stripe SCSI RAID 0 (2 400GB WD drives), Windows XP Media Center edition SP3. It is an off the shelf Sony Viao R VGC-RA826G. I only added a SCSI controller and storage drives.
I can add one more GB of RAM (2GB total) and plan to. Otherwise, this machine seems to be fairly un-upgradeable. After a lot of searching, I can't find any recommended video card upgrade or anyone who has sucessfully done that on this model. Physical space limitations of the case and proprietary design and fit of the small power supply have been specifically mentioned as hindrences to upgrading. Still, the system is well above minimum specs for CS1. It was pretty close to "state of the art" when I bought it in "2005" and CS1 was the latest from ADOBE at the time, so the system and the software should be fairly well matched. It's funny, at the time folks were raving about the video card with 256MB and the HUGE 2GB of available RAM. Even the HTT processer was still a marvel back then...
Anyway, I recently uninstalled unused programs, defragged the system drive (which has only system and programs - lots of headroom), turned off all startup items and system services except microsoft, ran security & performance scans (cleaned up registry, etc), installed updates, etc. The only thing I couldn't do was update to Encore 1.5.1 because the installer said that 1.5 wasn't in it's folder, which it clearly is (but I doubt that is the source of my scrubbing problems).
I have to walk on egg shells when scrubbing in any timeline or the program hangs. It usually hangs indefinitely and I have to do an end task to close Encore and restart it. Re-booting doesn't seem to make a difference. By the by, video plays nicely from the timeline or in preview without any problems. It is specifically scrubbing that causes the program to hang. Sometimes just advancing frame by frame too fast with the arrow keys (which is not fast at all) does it. Just installed VideoReDo and it scrubs the same file like a champ at any speed. Why does Encore hang on those same Mpeg2 files? It makes adding chapter points a long and tedious process and is generally a real drag.
Where is the problem most likely to be? Processor, RAM, Video card, system settings? I haven't used it much for the past couple years, but it seems that this was always a problem in Encore and Premier Pro. Lots of restarts. Any ideas how I can get Encore to stop hanging?
10 point Bonus Follow-up Question: All in all, would I be better off with CS4 (I'd like to upgrade) on this machine, or am I better off leaving CS1 on this machine because of the processor, RAM and GPU limitations? I believe I have CS1 "Production Studio" bundle (PP, AE, ILL, PS, ID, GL, etc.).
20 point Bonus Follow-up Question: I just installed Norton 360 (I don't know any better when it comes to which security sw to buy). Can I turn it off completely when using Adobe CS or will it always be lurking somewhere and potentially causing problems?
    Eddy

Since the main question is answered, I am re-posting the other two questions from my original post as new threads in the proper forums.
Thanks again for making my day! It's often the simple steps... Since I ATTEMPTED to update this driver last week, it would have been a long time before I thought to check it again...

  • Disk Utility hangs while initializing internal hard disk in Core Duo iMac

I have a 20" Core Duo iMac. Recently the internal hard drive crashed ("invalid B-tree node size" or something reported when Disk Utility tries and fails to repair it). I have all my data on an external hard disk used as a Time Machine volume, so recovery is not my issue. Initially I picked the write zeroes once security option and chose to erase the internal hard disk. Realizing this would take too long, I clicked on skip, and Disk Utility appeared to hang. I quit and restarted Disk Utility, and chose the "don't erase" security option, but when I go to erase the drive it appears to hang while at the "partitioning" stage and doesn't seem to get any further. There is motion in the progress bar, but no additional progress after about an hour. Disk Utility shows the disk but no volumes underneath it (whereas immediately after the crash, it showed an unmountable volume labeled "disk0s2").
Why would Disk Utility be taking so long and not making any progress? How can I reformat this disk if Disk Utility is not able to? Incidentally, I am running the Disk Utility that comes with OS X 10.4.8, since that is the OS X version on my portable hard drive that I booted from. I also tried using Drive Genius to initialize the hard disk, but it also appeared to hang with no progress.

It is possible the drive has failed, but to be sure start by turning off the computer. Wait five minutes. Then do this:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the drop down menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Be sure to boot from the OS X installer DVD, not a backup clone.

  • When building DVD menu error "was not found"

    Hi,
whent I try to build DVD disc, folder or image I get error "was not found." What could it be? My project consist of one mpeg2 video file, one mpa audio file and two subtitles tracks. First Encore transcode audio, then give error and stop.
    Thanks

Try replacing your mpa audio file with an uncompressed WAV or AIFF file - see if you still get the error.

  • Cannot build DVD menu because of Total menu size exceeds limit

Encore won't build my project when i compile it but when i do the check project it shows no error. It starts building and when half of it is done, the error appears and stops the compiling. I have tried reducing the size of all my videos and putting them in MPEG-2 DVD format but it didn't change anything. Since the check feature doesn't see the errors i'm thinking it must be some glitch and i would like to know how to get passed it.
Anyone knows how i can fix this ?

It's not Encore, but the DVD-spec. that is standing in the way. The complete Menuing of the DVD may not span a .VOB, which is ~ 1GB in size. The only course of action is to find ways to trim your Menus and their navigation to below that 1GB limit - the max size of the first .VOB in the Project.
This is for the Menus and all of their Assets, and not the rest of your Project's MPEG-2 files. Those can span several .VOB's.
Please tell us more about your Menus, their number, any Motion/Audio, etc. There might be some suggested methods for trimming those in the details. The more details, the easier it will be for someone to give suggestions that will only lightly impact your Project, and let you get to Burning.
Good luck, and we'll be looking for those details on everything regarding your Menus.

Do I need to Browse to a Folder, or a file ?
What Type Of file dose It need to be ?

You browse to the folder, but the files from the folder are added to the disk, not the folder. (I think subfolders are added, but I don't recall.) They can be pretty much anything: it is just a data disk in that sense.
