Encore isn't Transcoding for me on my PC

I am new to using Encore and have been making my DVD's with Windows DVD Maker, then not long ago I started using Encore. The problem I may having with enocore is that when i place my project in encore and make my menu and everything then go to Build it doesnt burn to a DVD. It as the coding Bar under Transcoding but after about a hour it just stops loading. Yesterday I left it loading for 24 hours without it finishing. I may on a PC i have good ram with 8GB. I dont know what to do to get my project to burn to a DVD. I Burned the same project 3 days ago without a problem tho this time I added a few extra things like a Photoshop make Menu, Chapters and one more link. My question is does everyone how of a way that a can get the program to work faster? And is there a way to make the menu in Encore but Burn with another software? If so would that be faster and what software should I use?

In Encore, you can "transcode now" rather than wait to do it during the "build." That way you can determine if it is your primary movies or other things that are hanging the project.

Many of us like to build to a folder or image and use ImgBurn to burn the disk. Building to a folder or image is also a good troubleshooting step.

  • Encore not re-transcoding changed dynamic link projects

Although I'm pretty fluent with CS products, I'm new to video editing so I apologize if this is a newbie question.  I currently have an Encore CS5 (Mac) project that dynamic-links several sequences in several Premiere Pro CS5 files.  My project is encoding to 4.72 gigs and I need to fit it onto a DVD-5.  In an effort to trim down the file size, I've shortened the credits on several of the movies, but no matter what I do, Encore doesn't update the movies.  I have to remove the Premiere and timeline assets from the project panel and re-insert them.  Even right-clicking the asset in the project panel and clicking "transcode" doesn't do the trick.  I only have one version of these projects (so it's impossible that I've added the wrong Premiere Pro file).  I know I can always turn down the maximum bit rate, but I was trying to keep the project at maximum quality.  What am I missing here?  Thanks for the help!

I have to remove the Premiere and timeline assets from the project  panel and re-insert them.  Even right-clicking the asset in the project  panel and clicking "transcode" doesn't do the trick.
Doing the transcode now option won't fix anything. Until Encore can break the previous tie with the original sequence, nothing will change..This is where the mystery of Dynamic Link needs an answer..
If you can delete the assets from the timeline, and re-drag the linked sequence down to the timeline, then this would be ideal. Assuming of course the new link is respected. But i take it that Encore isn't respecting an updated sequence??
This would be the first step in resolving the issue IMHO...

  • [help] Transcoding for Bluray using a CS5 project on CS4

    Hey guys, I'm back again.
I'm not sure how to approach this, but I am currently using Encore CS5 but my school uses CS4. I created a full project (the same film that I have had issues with previously) and changed the build from DVD to Bluray and tried to have CS4 transcode. As soon as the menus were done rendering, CS4 will crash citing a rendering error. As I am typing right now, CS5 is transcoding for bluray without a single hitch. The only problem is, my laptop does not have a bluray burner, so i have to rely on the school's system that still runs CS4 to burn the bluray.
I'm thinking that a workaround to this is probably to duplicate my project and bring in the transcoded files as an asset and put them in the timeline, place in the chapter markers/poster frames and build from there. I'm wondering if there's an easier way to do this.

There is no need to burn iso to disc using any other software.
You can burn iso to disc from Encore also.
Steps to burn iso to disc through encore -
    1. create a new project
    2. Go to build panel
    3. select the Format as Blu ray and output as Blu ray disc
    4. Select source as Disc image.
    5. Browse the image path and burn the blu ray disc.

  • Encore 1.5 Transcoding could not start not enough disk space

    Dear all,
I have a relative new raid 0 with four Hitachi (HDS721075KLA330) disks. At the moment I've got 2794.54 GB capacity (quite enough) and 1825.83 GB of free space. When finishing a Encore 1.5 project for making a DVD folder there is the error message: "Transcoding could not start there is not enough disk space available. 0 is available on E:\, 237.55 is required. Please free up disk space." Also messages during saving: "No disk space".
The weird thing is I've hadn't had this error before using the same raid disks, but since a few days I am stuck.
My OS is Windows CP Professional (SP2), 2 GB RAM, Radeon X1650 video card, Matrox RT.X100 video editing card. Thanks for your help.
    Hans Hermans

If I remember correctly, this is a bug caused by the sheer size of your target array. In the olden days when 1.5 was the released version, Terabyte drives were uncommon, and the package could not actually see it as this large, and will throw this error.
The workaround was to partition the target array into smaller sizes (less than 1 Terabyte) and you should be able to return back to normal.

  • Encore insists on transcoding a transcoded video file from media encoder

I've authored a bunch of Blu Ray and SD DVD's in Encore and once in awhile as in right now Encore insists on trnascoding a Blu Ray file that i already transcoded for Encore in Media Encoder on my MacPro which is running CC 7.1.  Anyone have any ideas how to solve this little, but frustrating time consuming issue?
    thx...jw
MacBook Pro (Mid 2009) 2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo
    Ram 8 GB
    Premier CS6.05
    Encore CS 6.05

It seems reasonable since Encore is supposedly not affected by CC updates since Adobe considers DVD's dead technology, though I really would like to meet the misguided soul who sold that, concept, that the only program affected would be media encoder.
That's why I thought I could encode on my cs6 MacPro running Snow Leopard and the encode on mt laptop running cc7.1.  I did a test on my Snow leopard CS6 system in Encore and it worked just like it is supposed to, so that's where I'll do my DVD/BluRay work .
Though this concept of the cloud and fast updates seems like a great idea, I think what is happening is that those of us "in the trenches" making our living using these programs are now the beta testers for the programs that should have been beta tested before reaching the market.  In Adobe's rush to release they're skipping beta testing.  We're it!
Red frames in Premier Pro;  direct to Speedgrade crashing; external monitor in Speedgrade not functional on release....just to name a couple I've encountered.  Adobe techs are not the problem it's Adobe management rush to market culture which is causing the problems.
I really appreciate and admire the Adobe tech staff who are trying to make this work under unconscionable pressure and unreasonable demands by their misguided management team.
    Sorry for the rant.
    Thx....Jim Watt

  • Batch transcoding for Blu-ray

    Hello,
We have many short ~2 minute files with long filenames (so they can cleanly be used to form the chapter descriptions for the disc) organized into folders and, as mentioned in another thread, we are having difficulties preparing these files in advance for Blu-ray processing for Encore so they do not need to be transcoded when we select 4-5 to author a Blu-ray with.  I tried to get around this by creating a massive project with all 500 of our files, using Encore CS6 to transcode all of them, then hoped Encore would know it transcoded that same asset in another project when we went to use 5 of those same files in another project.  Unfortunately, not only did Encore not automatically detect that it had already transcoded the file for Blu-ray in another project, but when we went to manually locate the file, we saw that Encore truncated all our filenames to 20 characters in the Transcoded folder, followed by "_sessionA_blahbalhablh.m4v".  Our filenames are not unique to 20 characters, so many filenames with A, B, C, D, etc suffixes were created and we have no way of telling what file is what.  We can't even play the file to check, and we also can't compare the running length as Encore transcodes to elementary streams that can't be played back.  Is there anyway to copy the transcoded asset knowledge from one project to the other so we can make use of the 3 days of compute time we appear to have wasted?
I've also looked into using Adobe Media Encoder to do this, but I think I'd need to take our files one folder at a time and run the transcode on them so they didn't get jumbled with the other files.  I can't see a way to setup AME so that it handles recursive folders, and I also can't see a way of working with AME through command-line automation so that it can whir away and process one folder of 5-10 files at a time.  All I can see is a way for it to turn out a similar output to our failure with getting Encore to transcode the files.
Any ideas on how we can batch-transcode for Blu-ray ahead of time instead of wait for Encore to transcode for every disc we build?

Encore is not long filename friendly, and will cause problems if you exceed an 80 character filename (Including spaces). Odd characters and in some cases excessive path depth can also be issues. The Encore authorcore (sonic based) is old, and just not modern filename friendly.
So I'd rethink the long filenames generally.
Ask your AME question in the AME forum. I do not know whether there is a good option for you or not.
hoped Encore would know it transcoded that same asset in another project when we went to use 5 of those same files in another project.
Encore creates a folder structure for the project, and under the sources/transcodes/ folders, a folder for each asset that is transcoded. As soon as you create a new project, all that is gone, and with it encore's memory for it. You can import those files as assets, but I assume your point is that you can't tell what is what.
We can't even play the file to check, and we also can't compare the running length as Encore transcodes to elementary streams that can't be played back.
The elementary stream is an m2v. You can play these (e.g. with vlc player). But all that would be cumbersome.
    Still thinking about this...

  • Encore wants to transcode m2v files? Why?

    Hi!
I haven't used Encore for long time yet, so this might be a stupid question... but among other things, I use it to transfer my own digi-tv recordigs from Topfield to DVD. Usually it goes like this:
    1) Demux the .rec file from Topfield with ProjectX
    2) Import resulting .m2v and .mp2 files to Encore
    3) set .mp2 to Don't transcode - the .m2v is automatically set to Don't transcode
Now, I have stumbled accross couple of movies where this didn't work. Suddenly, Encore (2.0) says that the .m2v files are Untranscoded and doesn't let me choose Don't transcode for them. What is wrong with the files? (In the same project I have some .m2v files that work at the same time...)
Any ideas? Encore doesn't tell me what's wrong. Tools that I should use? I really do not want to re-transcode those MPEG-files...

Just a guess, but are the m2v files 704x480 (NTSC) or 704x576 (PAL)?
While Encore accepts these sizes and they are DVD-legal resolutions, Encore insists on transcoding them to 720x480 or 720x576.
    There are a few solutions:
    1. Let Encore transcode the files. The quality shouldn't be affected, but it might take a long time depending on the length of the programs.
    2. Manually transcode the files with another encoder.
    3. Change your acquisition method to create 720x480 files instead of 704x480. This might not be possible.
    3. Use another authoring application that accepts this resolution. While 352x240, 352x480, 704x480, and 720x480 are all legal resolutions for NTSC DVDs, Encore only accepts 704x480 and 720x480 and will transcode 704x480 to 720x480.

  • DVD Burn problem. "Device error - the target device isn't suitable for use"

    Hello everyone,
I initially had a lot of problems with PE8. However the nVidia driver update solved most of them.
Just thought it was important to report success as well as failure!
However one problem remains. I get the following error at the 96% mark while burning. "Device error - the target device isn't suitable for use". It is always at the 96% mark and the program is "compiling [something]" when this happens.
Having searched this site I notice that user rgferg posted a similar problem 13 days ago but was redirected to repost in a different place, but never did.
I have tried to burn a 1hr clip 4 times and every time I have selected the slower burn speed (8MB/s) as has been suggested. It seems that inferior media is a culprit, so I have bought some [quality] Verbatim DVD-R media to try in my Phillips SATA optical drive. I am sceptical this will work, but open minded nonetheless. I will give it a whirl when my computer has stopped capturing the VHS I am working on.
Each time the burn failed the disk was automatically ejected and the burn process had actually started and progressed perhaps ~40% or so.
This indicates to me that it is a drive sharing issue, rather than a media issue. Somewhere on this forum it suggests that I go through a 20+ step process and delete/disable every piece of software that can compete with Premiere among other things. IF I do this what do I burn with outside of Adobe? Do I have to get imgburn or whatever it was called? What if I like Nero? Nero 6 has worked great for me for 3 years.
So given I am willing to uninstall my old optical drive burning software, who out there can recommened commercial software that for them creates a painless Adobe burning experience with no errors or conflicts? Perhaps there is another solution that I did not see on this forum?
I am running Windows XP SP3. I have the latest nVidia drivers for my SLI GeForce 7600 GS cards. I have 3 monitors. RAID 0 SATA, 2GB RAM, Athlon X2 5400.
    Justin.

OK been working through the list of 20 things Adobe recommends to fix DVD burn error. No luck yet:
    system meets minimum requirements
Project size does not exceed disk capacity
successfully burned project to DVD folder -thus skip to step 8.
      8.   Using new blank media for burning
      9.   Try different media and DVD burners. Bought Verbatim DVD-R. Don't have another DVD burner. Adobe's supported burner list is VERY short, so of course mine is not on it.
      10.  Uninstalled Nero 6. Did NOT uninstall Acronis True Image workstation or Lightscribe. These do not access the drive unless I say so!
      11.  Have not yet disabled startup items and services. This will take a lot of work and will leave to last. Deactivated Spybot thus far.....
      12.  Disabled IMAPI CD burning COM
      13.  DMA if available already set. Haven't set this in BIOS yet. I already think it is, but will check next boot.
      14.  Updated DVD firmware
      15.  Already updated nVidia drivers
      16.  Don't have any other DVD drives to disconnect.
      17.  MPEG workaround. Will resort to if required.
      18.  Disable Autoplay? XP only has "prompt me each time to choose an action". I have set this for ALL file types.
      19.  Have NOT refreshed the DVD drivers in the registry. This step involves uninstalling PE8. Will leave this as last resort.
      20.  Visit forums to see if other have the same problem. Hi guys
So still working through some of the items above.
Can anyone direct me to advice on how to write the encoded files sent to the hard drive, or the VOB files that PE8 failed to burn to a disk? Will the former work with DVD menus?
    What a process.
    Stay tuned.
    Justin.

I got an Internet connection on my phone, went to SETTINGS --> GENERAL --> SOFTWARE UPDATE and updated my Software wirelessly (no iTunes involved).
When I connected my phone to my Computer again and iTunes popped up, it showed that my iPhone software was up to date. Then I could restore to an old back-up.
