Encore lowering Audio levels in DVD
I have used Encore several times and never run into this problem. But I'm making a short DVD using footage from two cameras that I edited in Premiere. Audio sounds fine in the timeline--actually, it's a little too loud.
But when I convert it to DVD using Encore, the audio is significantly lowered. I'm puzzled. There's no audio settings for Encore, so what could I have possibly caused?

Did you use Dolby Digital encoding for the audio?
Also, what are your audio levels in Premiere, please?
If we are talking about film encoding I highly recommend getting into LUFS metering - happy to discuss this in greater detail if anyone is interested (let me know) as I suspect the problem is excessively loud audio in premiere and when this is encoded using the consumer tool in Encore, it will be normalizing the audio down to it's internal dialnorm setting (probably -27dB which would give you up to -4dB difference) and further taking into account the possibility of the resulting disc being played over RF connections in mono, and the encoder is set up deliberately to prevent clipping the output.
If you could analyze the audio - pre AC3 encoding - and let us know the levels, this will tell us much

Lowering Audio Level at Specific Points
I want to lower the volume for a selected portion of a clip. I zoom in on the clip, and turn on the waveform for the audio, though I am trying create keyframes by clicking near the top of the audio clip to place a keyframe, however, nothing happens?
First make sure that clip overlays are turned on. There's a button near the lower left of the Timeline window that toggles that function off and on. It must be on to keyframe in the Timeline. Alternatively, you can load the clip into the Viewer window for adjustments or use the Audio Mixer (Tools menu) to record keyframes in RT during playback.

Raising or lowering audio levels minimizes certain programs
Hi I have an HP pavillion dv6 notebook with windows 7 64-bit and when ever I have a window maximized or running any sort of a game and decide to change the volume it minimizes any window and shows an onscreen slider bar I have tried updating the drivers from hp site that didnt change it I dont know what to do the name of the driver is IDT high definition audio codec the version is 6.10.6225.0 hope some one can help
This question was solved.
View Solution.Well, I was having this problem too, but I ran across a topic that addressed this. I wish i could find it again because it even mentioned a program to replace the slide bar with one that worked in full screen. But anyway, the two quick fixes I saw were 1. go to task manager and end smartMenu. The volume slider still works for me, but doesn't show on screen graphic
2. To keep from having to keep doing this, go to msconfig (run, msconfig) and then go to startup and unclick hp MediaSmart.
I don't know if disabling MediaSmart will have any consequences but it works and I haven't run into any problems -
Can we adjust the audio levels in DVD Studio Pro?
I think you mean be sure to set it to -31 and not the default -27, don't you?? Especially if you are balancing the audio before encoding and don't want to introduce any attenuation.
The Dialog Normalization setting of -31 ensures no attenuation, whereas -27 will affect the audio levels in the file. -
When burning edited footage to DVD the audio levels are low.
I have edited video footage in FCPX for which the audio levels appear fine but when I burn it to DVD and watch the footage, the audio is very low. I have then increased all audio levels in the editing footage to + 12db and burned it to DVD again. Even thgough some of the audio are downloaded tracks from itunes all audio still seem to be quite low.
Am I doing something wrong. Is your project audio set to surround or stereo?
In the project list select the project and then click on the spanner icon at bottom right of inspector.
It will tell you. and you can change to stereo if that is what you would normally use. -
Audio levels change depending on dvd player
I have exported a 30 minute documentary from IMovie '11 to iDVD and burned it to disc. When I play this on my own dvd player and televison (standard definition) the sound levels are fine. But when the dvd was played on a friend's dvd player connected to a flat screen tv, the sound levels varied considerably. Is there a way to make sure that the DVD plays on all player?. Should I create one iMovie in the HD/widescreen format and export to iDVD and burn that version so that I have one version for SD and one for HD? Can someone explain what causes this variations?
Thanks for the comments. I checked the cables and they are correct.
If I put an earlier DVD into the same player, it plays fine. It's only the DVD to which I added additional audio that the DVD player won't play correctly. In other words, the audio in the tracks plays fine, but the audio in the menus doesn't play on the DVD player, but plays fine when using a computer.
I don't want to adjust the DVD player settings, because I want the audio to be present on all setups.
For the audio, it's stereo. I export it as an AIF from FCP and then run that through either APack or Compressor2, to turn it to an AC3.
If it were a DVD Player issue, then an earlier DVD with the same menu audio (that now won't play) shouldn't play, but it plays fine. It's only when I add new audio to the tracks that the DVD player stops playing the old menu audio. -
Audio Levels Too Low after Burned DVD
I have had a problem keep arising and now has affected business.
I videotaped a concert and cut it on FCP 5 and Motion 2. When everything was finished I used Compressor 2.0.1 to encode and then author in DVD Studio Pro 4. I burned a DVD and it played back ok on my desktop but has LOW AUDIO levels on any set top box. I sent a DVD to a client and they had to crank their audio up all the way just to hear the sound though the video quality was fine.
Is this a common problem and does anyone know how to get better audio levels in this kind of workflow?First, confirm that your audio is mixed and you levels are set properly in FCP. (and force render an "audio mixdown" before exporting just to make sure the audio is "finalized...")
If it this is the case, then take the resulting PCM/AIFF audio file (from the compression of your FCP movie) and turn it into an AC3 audio file.
I still use the old APACK utility Apple gave with the older DVDSP. It works just fine. (use any app you prefer for this...)
Here's the settings I use:
Target System: DVD video
Audio Encoding 2/0 (L,R)
Data Rate: 192 kbps
Dialoge Normalization -31dBFS (this is important because it matches your FCP settings)
Inside the Preprocessing (tab)
change the Compression Preset to NONE so it doesn't recompress the file.
The audio levels of the resulting AC3 file will exactly match those of your original FCP timeline. Should work for you just fine when you import it into DVDSP

Adj. audio levels - transparent to DVD Studio Pro
I've reviewed posts about audio levels and I understand it must be done outside DVD Studio Pro. I've run into several work-flow bumps that pose these questions...
When I use an app to raise or lower the audio level when I "Save As" or export to match the original parameters (48k, 16bit, Stereo, big endian) DVD Studio Pro will reject the new file (that has been used in the project already) with this error msg.... "file no longer uses a supported graphics format"
What is the fastest and most transparent way to change audio levels? (to aviod this rejection by DVD Studio Pro?) Ideally one would simply "Save" after the adjustment vs Save As or export.
On a related score, other apps allow you to substitute assets. So provided the running time and basic (audio) parameters are the same, can one do this in DVD Studio Pro?
In my haste for a solution in a simple dvd demo reel I was making I was willing to trash the pair of quicktime files (m2 & aiff) after manually purging them form the project, then re-importing and reassigning a new pair that included the adjusted audio. Even in a simple project this workaround was no fun. Suggestions? Thanks in advance.
PaulAs this "imported" file is the only thing in it, I'm not sure what multitrack means in this example but I'll experiment. When you say "editor in a new tab" I wish I understood what this "editor" tab is as it does not appear in the pdf manual. Is there another name for this tab-window? Exporting the multitrk proj would put me in the same mismatch pickle I was in to start with.
Thanks,
Paul
This is strange. Are you viewing it in a "multitrack"
project? Once double-clicked on, the file should open
in the editor under a new tab, which has the same
name as the file. In this editor you can perform
whatever is necessary. If this continues to fail, try
exporting the multitrack project with the same name
and file type as the original to replace it. That
will work also. Hope it works this time.

Adjusting audio levels for authoring
Hello,
Is it possible to raise the audio levels in Encore so the levels are higher for the muxed DVD than the source audio files themselves? Is there a way to do this in an Encore timeline?
Thanks,
MtbakerstuWelcome to the forum.
Audio Level/Gain adjustment will need to be done in PrPro, or perhaps Audition.
Good luck,

Flash audio level drop outs (Windows 8.1)
Hey,
Using adobe flash, I've been having issues with to audio nearly dropping out to nearly inaudible levels on mutiple websites. Anything that does use the flash player, it seems to be triggered when I plug in another device into the computer for use, or charging although it doesn't seem to be 100% consistant and seems less likely after reinitiating the flash player, but would happen after having the flash player open for a longer period of time then attaching a device. My current work around is to either load up a different browser e.g. Google Chrome, which will use it's own plugin container containing another instance of flash. Or to end task on flash from my task manager, then reload the page. which would restore proper audio levels. This does not appear to be specific to one webpage, or to one brower.

While steams loader was active in the background it would cause the flash audio to drop out. I don't know any reason why it would cause this, but have just disabled steam from starting up at all. Any insight on why these two programs would clash and cause audio issues would be greatly appreciated.

Importing Audio from a DVD Concert
I want to import the audio from a DVD concet into iTunes.
I've tried MactheRipper and MAC3dec to do the conversion but the main concert file was 1 hour and 15 minutes long and it only imported the intro which lasted about 45 seconds.
What I'd really like to do is import the entire concert then cut it up into songs to import into iTunes.
So my questions are:
1. How do start with a 1.3 hour audio file on DVD and end up with 16 song files in my iTunes library?
2. Is it possible to do this with AudioHijack or a similar program? The software is capable of extracting audio only at the chapter level. Using a DVD I mastered myself, I can use the Mode button, then select Title - Chapter Extraction, click the D button, and then the Streams button becomes active. Clicking that opens a drawer where all the various audio tracks are available, and they can be extracted one at a time using the SChpt and EChpt drop-down lists.
Again, please be sure that whatever you're doing with a DVD is legal in your own case. I am not suggesting that you use any particular software for any particular purpose, but just explaining how to navigate through a confusing interface in a program you already seem to have.
EDIT: I've read through your posts again, and you mentioned that you bought the DVD. Of course I can't be sure about this, but if it's a commercial DVD, it is most likely encrypted. In that case, you really must be sure that you have the right to extract audio tracks from the disc (or even to use the software in question)--even though you're not "copying" the disc by working only with the audio portion, it may be the case that even the audio on the disc is protected in some way by copyright. So, I can't emphasize enough that I in no way am encouraging you to do anything outside the scope of fair and legitimate use of your DVD product. -
Audio level setting for music tracks in dance recital video project
I am editing dance recital using the CD music tracks and editing in the audience clapping, some of the music tracks have lower audio level than others.
I am setting up the audio levels between -3dB (for the lower audio tracks) up to -6dB (for the higher ones) including the audience clapping. I am making the adjustments by listening to the tracks on fixed output volume level.
My question is if the final output (DVD) will have the the same adjusted audio levels I am hearing, or should I just stick to fixed level (-6dB) for all the tracks? If so is -6dB ideal for DVD output? Thanks for your reply Steve,
I normally watch DVDs on different sound system than the TV, however, from your answer I gather you're setting the master level -18 to -20db. If it is so, are you setting the individual tracks below that, and in my case where the audio levels of the original music fluctuate from high to low, would you set them all on the same level or adjust to hear them out the same? -
Audio level control in menu screen
Is there any way to control the audio levels of the background audio played when the DVD menu first appears. I assume that DVD Studio Pro may have more control over this but I am using iDVD for now and am stuck. Thanks
If you want to lower the volume of "the built-in" audio in iDVD menus, first you have to find the audio files inside iDVD. Control-click on iDVD, and choose "show package contents" Then open contents>resourses and find the iDVD theme you want to edit. Again, control-click the theme and look in contents>resources for the audio file.
Now you have to edit that audio file to lower the volume. This can be done a few ways, sometimes using iMovie or another audio editor like Cacophony etc.
You'll have to save it with the same name and in the same audio format you found it in........and replace the original file.

Audio Level Change to and from progr
When I get into even a simple program that i made that didnt go full screen my media player music (WMP ) quieted even though there is now visable change in any audio, also and most importantly is when I load up WC3 or WoW my volume gets lowered on the media player and once again no volume controls change so there is no visable change, I've also had times were there was no sound coming from the player or game, unless I minimised the program and restarted play back in some way but then right when i get back into the game it quits. Sound Blaster Adigy SE?even this simple program that i made changes my audio level soundhttp://thesite.mine.nu:8080/elipse%20test.exeMessage Edited by CTS_AE on 04-20-20072:02 AM
Just to back up Michael. The native sample rate for video is 48khz. To work at anything other than that is to ask for problems.

I have a Philips portable DVD player. It has a built-in audio amplifier, speakers, headphone and line out. But the volume control on its amplifier does not work with DVDs authored in iDVD. It does work with other DVDs that I own (like movies). I can pre-set the volume in iDVD for, say, a slide show. But when I burn the DVD and play, the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons on the Philips unit do nothing. With other DVDs, when I push those buttons, there is a pop-up showing the volume level. But with DVDs authored in iDVD, it plays only at the pre-set level. I can mute it, but I cannot control audio level. Did I miss something in iDVD?
OK. The situation is a bit better than I thought. Any DVD burned with iDVD disables only the volume control on the REMOTE CONTROL of the Philips PET 1030/37. On the unit itself (as opposed to its hand-held remote) THE VOLUME CONTROL STILL WORKS. So, just to be clear, there still is something weird about DVDs made with iDVD, because the volume control on the hand-held remote does NOT work for them. On store-bought movie DVDs (not burned with iDVD), the hand-held remote DOES work (as well as the on-unit volume control). This issue starts to feel to me like a non-configurable option that they have pre-set in iDVD. Maybe someone familiar with the full DVD authoring software (DVD Studio Pro 4) could tell us what's going on. Of course that software is available ONLY as a component of Final Cut Studio 2. It is not available stand-alone.
