Encore menu sizing

Hi,
I'm starting to build my menu in Photoshop for Encore. My final output will be on a
standard DVD.  I'm following a tutorial I found online:
http://digitalproducer.digitalmedianet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=25879
but it says the standard size of an NTSC DVD is 720x534?
I thought the standard size was 720x480?
Am I wrong or am I reading the wrong information?
Thanks in advance!

The article is correct but a little bit dated.
DVD menus on NTSC video systems are 720x480 with a pixel aspect ratio of .9, which is a non-square pixel. If you have Photoshop CS or later, you can use their new document template and choose DV-NTSC 4:3 and this is what you will get.
In earlier versions of Photoshop, there was only one pixel aspect ratio: square pixels, also known as a pixel aspect ratio of 1.0. In these earlier versions of Photoshop, a DVD menu would indeed by 720x534, and when Encore created a DVD is squished the menus down so they had non-square pixel aspect ratios as required.
If you're working with later versions of Photoshop and Encore, it's best to stick with 720x480 with a PAR of .9 for 4:3 menus.

  • How do I sample color from a photoshop image and apply it to an Encore menu color sets

I'm about 3 months and many hours of tutorials into Premiere ProCC, Audition CC, and Encore CS6. Apparently the nifty dynamic links from PPro and Audition CS6 no longer work with encore, as encore was not upgraded to CC. So, I want to sample color from an original photoshop image, and create an Encore menu color set, so that my menu bttons, etc. are colored to match the main photo image in the menu. Is there an eyedropper kind of tool in Encore that would let me sample the color from the image, and then apply that to color swatches in the Encore button layers? If there is I can't find it! ~Thanks!

Strangely enough, I started a thread on this issue a few days ago in the Creative Cloud forum.  I had to uninstall all my pre-CC adobe software to get the Application Manager in sync with the CC apps, so when I tried to use Encore, there it was gone.  So I reinstalled PremPro CS6 just to get Encore back, but when I right clicked a menu in Encore, as asked to Edit in Photoshop, it threw up an error.  The consensus was that Encore CS6 would know nothing about Photoshop CC, so after much time searching for a fix, my only option was to either reinstall Photoshop CS6, or do it manually.
I took the latter option using Windows 7 to search for the menu, and open/with Photoshop CC.  Stan Jones, who is the Encore equivalent of our Noel, mentioned a brick-bat, but I just saved the edit file and dragged it into Encore, and it worked fine

  • Can I export Encore menu to photoshop to edit?

I understand that I can create DVD menu in photoshop & import to Encore.
But, is it possible to export the Encore menu (which is shipped with Encore) to Photoshop to edit (& then import to Encore again)?

Also, you can Rt-click on the Menu in the Menu Editing Panel, and choose Edit in Photoshop.
If you do not have that, then go to your Control Panel>Folder Options, and check that the File Type, .PSD, is allocated to Photoshop. If not, reset this. Many programs will "steal" file affinities.

  • Make my After Effects composition into an Encore menu... How?

I'm new to After Effects, but have had a fair bit of experience with Encore. I've managed to create a rather cool looking menu in AE for a DVD i'm going to create in Encore, but it is obviously an AE composition, which consists of a Photoshop layer and a video layer. I know how to add buttons etc. for Encore in Photoshop/AE, but what I can't figure out is how to take the composition I've created in After Effects into Encore and have it as a menu?
What I have created is fairly simple. It's just one Photoshop layer (excluding the buttons ofcourse) and a single video layer, manipulated in 3D space so it appears as though it's showing on a TV screen in my Photoshop image. I've seen tutorials for creating a simple video button in Encore, but what I'm doing is somewhat more complicated as the video layer is blended in with the Photoshop layer in After Effects, so I can't link to it separately.
Can anyone help? Thanks in advance...

Moving backgrounds to menus need to be imported into Encore as video files unless you are able to use Dynamic Link to streamline the process (I don't have DL so can't help with practical advice).
If you are animating the button images, you will not be able to use them as buttons until you transition into the Encore menu itself.
There's a video tutorial on animating menus in After Effects either on a DVD in the box or on line at http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/video_workshop/

  • Encore Menu Audio Glitch in Blu-Ray

I've been trying to burn a BRD in Encore for several months now and have not been successful as yet. I can burn a disk in Blu-Ray with operating menu and everything is fine -- except - I cannot get the menu audio to play for more than 10 seconds.  I've tried using a custom menu made from Photoshop, menu from the Encore Library.  I've tried converting the audio from mp3 or wav to AAC format.  I've tried using Adobe Media Encoder to encode the audio.
I do not have these issues when burning a regular DVD.  Regular DVDs build just fine.
I have checked everything in the Encore menu properties box and everything appears to be fine. I've reviewed the training disk and I appear to be doing everything correctly.  I've tried everything mentioned in this forum -- I think.     I've tried importing the audio asset as a .wav, PCM, AC3, and mt2a.  I  My system specs are listed below.  Can anyone provide any additional information on how I can fix this?
I tried using it on my Win7 system as well, but the Blu_ray build just totally freezes the Encore program.

  • Drop down menu sizing

I am fairly new at flash and am working on some pretty basic concepts. What I have recently done is create a drop down menu that will work in conjunction with the rest of my site. The problem that I am having is that if I set the document size large enough for the entire drop down menu it leave me with a lot of blank space on my html page. In html I can adjust margins to use that space but then my drop down menus fall behind the html code. I am using CS3 and AS3.0. Any suggestion would be greatly appriciated. Thanks in advance.

    well mark,
since nobody had the heart to tell you ...
    you're a dummy!
the attachments you were messing with, happen to be pdf's and eps's.
these files don't offer the same sizing, preview, adjustment option as a simple jpeg.
and yes, for the poor soul reading this, i'm answering my own question.
    problem solved.
    hope my struggle helps somebody.

  • Workflow for Creating Encore Menu in Photoshop

This question deals with working between Encore and Photoshop CS5... I hope this is the proper Forum to post. I'll post in the Photoshop Forum as well...
I'm creating a DVD menu from scratch in Photoshop CS5 to be used in authoring a DVD in Encore.  I originally created a new Photoshop Document using the "Film/Video Preset" for NTSC DV Widescreen... which is 720x480 at 72ppi.   There is also the "Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction" setting which Photoshop warns is "used only for preview" .
My confusion comes from trying to design all the elements of my menu at this 720x480/ 72ppi  Film/Video Preset. The image is too small to work with an looks pixelated as hell.  SO... should I be working with a larger, higher-res image for design ... and THEN Free Transform the high-res image  to a new Photoshop document created with the Film/Video Preset?  And if so... should the "Pixel Aspect Ration Correction" be turned ON or OFF when I Free-Transform the image to the document?
I'm trying to get everything right in terms of settings so this menu will work properly in Encore... thanks in advance for all positive input....

I could swear I responded to your thread at Cow, but I see I only thought it and did not do it!
I suggest you put an Encore library template into a project and use "edit in photoshop" to see how that works.
PAR correction is on for me, and I think that is the default. That is logical, since standard monitor uses square pixels.
I think you are better off keeping the menu at the DVD resolution you are going to use. I don't find a problem working at that resolution.
Keep in mind that ppi is meaningless in video work. It is all about the pixels and par.

  • Can I use AE Fractal Noise as a background in ENCORE menu?

After Effects has a fractal noise effect that I have used and I would now like to import or dynamic link to that fractal noise in ENCORE to use in a menu.  Is this possible?  If so how?
I have imported the AE composition to ENCORE but I don't know how to make that asset a background in a menu.   Any experience or directions would be appreciated.
I am using CS3 with PP, AE8 and ENCORE.

No, you cannot just apply an effect in Encore. You must export a movie that will play in the background.

  • Encore menu done in Photoshop issue

For the past few years I build a DVD menu in Photoshop that I used in Encore. I have a roll over command for each chapter (=1) there are anywhere for 26-30 chapters. Every year I have done it with success except for this year.
    I'm using Encore 5.0.0.508
So this year as in the past I using a old Photoshop menu and just updated the chapters and graphics.
When I preview the menu in Encore only the first 18 of 30 chapters rollover works.
    Things i tried:
    1) Imported the previous menu for last year and it works without any issues. (This is the file I used this year as the template.
    2) When I delete the delete one of the first 1-18 chapters then chapter 19 will work when I rollover it. If I delete let's say chapters 1 and 2 then chapter 19 and 20 will work. It just seems the magic number is 18 chapters total.
    Other notes:
    1) the only thing I imported into Encore are the Photoshop file which I imported as a menu
    2) I'm using Photoshop CS 5
    3) Doing a 1280x720p 59.94 Blu-Ray project in Encore
    Thanks in advance, Bob

I'm then puzzled is this the reason why my 2010 file that is 720x486 with 30 buttons work?  Is there a work-around for me...2 page menu?

  • CS6, Fluid Grid Layouts, and Spry Menu - sizing issues

Hi. I am a full-fledged nubie to Dreamweaver, so please forgive my ignorance. But I really need to build a new site, and I really like DW so far (much better than what I was using).
I am building a site with fluid grid layouts so it is properly sized across all decices. I have inserted a spry horizontal menu as my primary navigation. I got the menu to look like I want it as far as formatting goes.
But when I view the page live and change the size of my browser, the menu wraps around to the next row, even with fairly large browser windows.
Can anyone tell me how to scale the spry menu bar the same as an image does in a fluid grid layout?
    Thanks,
    Steven

Don't use Spry Menus.  #1 they're not Responsive.  #2 They don't work all that well on Touch Screen devices.  #3 Adobe abandoned the Spry framework last year.   Is that enough to convince you?  See links below for alternatives.

  • Photoshop hangs on launch of encore menu

I've been using a menu repeatedly in different projects for a month or so... and now suddenly when I click the 'edit in photoshop button' on my menu's, photoshop hangs, followed by the error 'Adobe Photoshop Cs5 has stopped working.' and then windows closes the program.
Any ideas as to the cause or cure to this annoyance?
(I am going to cross post in the Photoshop forum, I just thought since this problem is somewhat encore related maybe someone here would know the solution)

Are you able to launch Photoshop directly (not using Encore)?

  • Editing Encore Menu in Photoshop Weirdness

I have a menu in Encore CS5 and I edit it in Photoshop.  However, when it is brought back into Encore, the layers that I edit show up as black.  It is freaking awful.  I have lost a lot of work several times.  What could be the cause of this?
    Thanks!

Thanks guys.  I have also seen the issue where Encore is not updated and it takes a few more saves in photoshop.
What I am seeing is that when I go to the updated version in Encore some of the layers go black (or gray as I am seeing this minute).
Here is an image of the photoshop file: http://99.4.78.197/ps.png
At first, it shows up correctly in Encore:
    http://99.4.78.197/encore1.png
But as soon as I change the End Action (either setting it initially or changing it) it becomes like this:
    http://99.4.78.197/encore2.png
In this case it became gray, usually it is black.  To confuse things further, sometimes this happens without changing the links and affects all the layers named '(%) thumbnail'.
My best guess is that there is some weird caching issue with the temp file and previous files but the inner workings are opaque to me.
Thanks again for all your help thus far......

  • Encore Menu Trouble

I'm making a custom menu for my DVD in Photoshop, using the film/video preset (720x480 I believe). When I import the image to encore, everything looks good. Once I've burned the disc and put it in my DVD player the image looks stretched, as do the video buttons I used.
Any ideas as to what the problem could be?

Before trying to create a menu from scratch in Photoshop, it helps to learn by starting with one from the Encore library and modify it in Photoshop. Add a menu from the Encore library to an Encore project, then right click and pick "edit in Photoshop." When you realize how easy it is, there's no need to start from scratch. You can change everything you want to change before you can learn the small subtleties that created your problem.
In any event, as John says, PAR is the partner of the pixel size. But you have a choice to make: widescreen or standard? You don't say which you picked, so I assume you simply got it wrong. The Film & Video presets in Photoshop have a group of Pixel Aspect ratios at the bottom. The 720x480 you indicate is NTSC, so you pick between D1/DV (par .91) or widescreen (1.21).
It is possible you did it right, and Encore is interpreting it wrong, which you can fix, either way, by telling Encore which is correct. Since your menu looks stretched (rather than squished), you probably used widescreen when you wanted standard.
Try changing in Encore by looking at what Encore is seeing as the display ratio: 4:3 or 16:9. Select the menu in Encore (select the menu only, not a button), and look at the properties panel, basic tab. If is set as 4:3, change it to 16:9.

  • Encore menu's

Because my old Encore 2.0 doesn't work anymore on windows 7, and I also have problems with running PPRO 2.0 on this system, I will upgrade Encore, PPRO 2.0 and Audition 2.0 to 5.5.
I have downloaded the trailversions and they worked.
As it looks like, the encore is integrated into PPRO 5.5, and is not a separate version anymore.
Pitty that Encore doesn't function in the trailversion, so I cannot see what has been changed comparing my old 2.0 version.
One of the questions are the menu's. In the 2.0 there are several menu backgrounds already given, and I could import own pictures directly into the encore black menu's building my own backgrounds. Furthermore there where buttons etc. included for direct use.
My question is, does the integrated encore 5.5 also have these possibilities, or with other words, does the menustructure goes the same as the old 2.0 using given backgrounds, or do I have to use seperate programms as after effects of photoshop to make these.
In the old 2.0 there where less widescreen bakgrounds, are there in the new 5.5 more widescreen (stills or moving)  backgrounds (when they excist)?
I am asking this because I don't need all these extra programms  for my type of work as there are in the premiere production version of Adobe, which is much expensive.
    Thanks for replying
    Chris

Thanks for all the good advise, I thought win7 has also the possibility to make an complete copy, but maybe I will also try the suggestion using ten linux programm.
I have lots of (CANStagevideo) backgrounds and am pleased to read that these can be incorporated with Encore 5.5  adding into the bibl.
I have bought the hardware versions of the Adobe programms, just to avoid problems with reinstalling.
So, last I have to search how to install my third monitor as a source monitor, my old matrox RTX100 card will not function anymore because they don't have drivers for W7 64.
I think to install my old NVIDIA 6600 (third monitor)  together with  the new installed NVIDIA 560 (two basic monitors) card as suggested on the hardwareforum.
    Thank again

  • Encore Menu

    Hello All,
I have currently built a menu from scratch in Encore and Photoshop, It works perfectly.
My issue is the graphics. They seem pixelated when I view the dvd fullscreen.
    I originally built this menu 720 X 480 @ 72 dpi after I noticed everything looked pixelated I Re-built the menu
to 1248 X 702 @ 150 ( the actuall size of my quicktimes in the DVD)  thinking that might make a difference... It Didn't
Can anyone explain to me why changing the dpi and actuall dimensions of my menu made absolutely no difference in the overall quality
and, how I might better resolve my issue.

As Stanley points out, Encore is not an NLE. It needs your Assets to match the Project - unlike an NLE, where one matches the Project to the source footage.
