Encore stops when rendering motion menus

I have a pretty consistent problem when rendering motion menus/project and I don't know how to fix it. Can anyone help?
I've just started to use Encore2, having switched from DVD Workshop 2.
I've got a wedding to author and I've used the useful 'Create Chapter Index' function that automatically creates sub menus. This has worked fine UNTIL I render the motion menus.
There are four menus: 1 x Main Menu, and 3 x Sub Menus.
If I render number 1 sub menu it's fine. It renders all 375 frames (why are there always 375 frames?).
The number 2 sub menu also renders properly.
When I get to number 3 sub menu, it always stops at frame 294 and Encore hangs! Why should this be?
I tried creating another project using the same mpeg file (4.12 GB) but with different menus and the same thing happens!
Any ideas?
John

> why are there always 375 frames?
Assuming PAL (at 25fps) that would be a 15 second motion menu.
> always stops at frame 294 and Encore hangs!
Just guessing: If you used motion thumbnails for chapters or timelines, there could be a "glitch" (corruption) 294 frames into the chapter or timeline the thumbnail video is made from.

  • File Not Found when rendering motion menus

I'm rendering motion menus in CS4. Most of them are successfully rendered but two haven't rendered yet: "FAQ A 13" and "FAQ A 14". When the rendering process gets about 3/4 of the way through FAQ A 13, I get "File Not Found" error.
There is no indication in the error box of WHICH file was not found (thanks Adobe). It doesn't seem like it can be 13, since it already successfully found 3/4 of the file. But I'd be surprised if it was 14 because 13 should have taken another 15-20 seconds of rendering before 14 was attempted.
Anyone experienced something like this and have some insight?
    Thanks

Solved it (sort of): I chose a different transcode preset to force a re-transcode of the video background. Re-rendering motion menus was successful after that.
Strange though that the transcoded file was corrupted/missing (it was fresh as I had imported the asset this session).
Also strange that Encore would transcode background assets to mpeg2 before rendering the motion menu; wouldn't it have to recompress to mpeg2 after compositing the additional elements, and lose quality?

  • Photoshop file error when rendering motion menus in Encore CS4

    Hello
I hope someone can help me please?
I've successfully (after 3 attempts) managed to import my PP project into Encore, created the menus etc from the presets that come with Encore (Wedding Garden menu).  When it comes to rendering the motion menus with the animated buttons option checked, after a couple of seconds it comes up with a Runtime C error - photoshop file (508) i think it is and it crashes.
It's a new system CS4, Windows 7 64bit, 2x2.40ghz quad core processor, 24gb ram, nvidfia 285 2gb graphics card - do you need to know anything else?
I've rendered the motion menus without ticking the animate buttons option on the 3 menus I have (it's a wedding dvd - main menu and 2 sub menus with animated thumbnails) and its worked.  This is ok as a workaround but I'd really like to be able to have the menu thumbnails animated.
    Many thanks
    Rachel

Thanks v much i'll certainly give that a try -
if it helps - I managed to make a note of the error message after I had sent my initial posting on this topic.

  • Abnormal Error When Rendering Motion Menus

    Hello everyone,
I am having the 'Sorry, and abnormal message' thing going on when I try to render my motion menu's. I have had this problem before, but have since forgotten how to remed the problem. I do remember the override option (not to use). But I am stranded otherwise.
I have 3 menus. The first one is my main menu. It comes right after a 10 sec video intro. The menu itself runs about 4 mins of video and their are menu options overlaid on top. I have tried a MS DV AVI video and a Adobe Mpeg Encoded MPEG-2 DVD file. So far, when the animate button is flicked on, I have a problem immediately when I click 'render motion menus'.
Menu 2 and 3 are pretty much the same. I built one, copied and just changed video links and titles. The menu has 6 videos to select from, each with their own video thumbnail. Again when I click animate motion menus I run into the abnormal error. The files for the thumbnails are all MPEG 2 DVD.
Thank You Everyone for your support!
    BK

well I fixed the problem. The solution. Reinstall Encore 3 times solving a new error every time. I didn't have to change anything else. Weird.

  • Rendering Motion Menus in Encore - Photoshop File Error -1

I've looked everywhere for the answer to this.... I cannot render my motion menus in Encore.   I recently upgraded to OS Maverick (fresh install) on a brand new SSD drive.  I'm using CS5.5.
    Help!!!
(To go in more detail, I did a screencast below)

I did not watch the whole video.
Both (photoshop -1 and the mega-content ROM) are known issues with Mavericks. We are not getting enough feedback to know how well, or not, Encore is working on Mavericks.

    Photoshop -1 issue:
The workaround was not to left-click on the menu. Use right click, or other options and menu commands.
    Edit: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5810884#5810884
See post 12 and several following where we are looking for workarounds to the error.

For bluray projects, a large amount of BD-ROM is shown, and may slow startup.
A workaround is to add a small amount of ROM content.

  • File Not Found Error When Rendering Motion Menu

    Hi there.
I'm attempting to render a motion menu and keep getting the error "file not found". All of the necessary files are available and no specific missing file is mentioned.
The background video is a .m2v, and there is a .wav audio file too. They are 42 seconds long.
I tried other Encore projects and 2 others are doing the same thing, or coming up with a 'General Error'.
I have cleaned the Database in the Media Cache. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Encore. There are no updates available.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    David

Yeah, it would have taken me quite a while to redo the menus completely!  So I was very thankful for the save to menu template option.
When I (not recently, thank goodness!) have a project I suspect of corruption, I create a new project, and just "import as menu" from the old menu subdirectory. The method you used deletes the  menus, so exporting the menus helps.
    Mac OS 10.6.8
    That's Snow Leopard, right?
Actually, I'm not really sure about Encore terminology (this was my first project), but the only motion I have in my menus is the line that appears under the button text when that button is highlighted.  At one point I had the photo buttons (for videos) set to animate, but I removed that option.
A highlight is just a highlight, not "motion." Animated buttons, when rendered as the menu, are actually a video background, so that was a motion menu.
All 30 slideshows are actually individual video timelines.  They were created and exported from Photosho Lightroom 3.
In Encore terminology, those are just videos - many Encore users choose to do slideshows as videos.
I had originally tried creating each one as a slideshow from within Encore, but I was DEEPLY dismayed by how slow Encore became, evetually locking up at least once per hour.  It was ridiculous, even taking into account the fact that it is not a 64-bit program.  I planned to leave 2 of the songs as Encore slideshows (Lightroom can't do Pan/Zoom), but in the end I had to replace them with mp4s because the slideshows just would not play.  Really, it was about 11 wasted days plus 4 productive days to get me through the project!
Encore has a variety of problems with slideshows, but I suspect from your description that you were using very large images. Scaling them down a bit can improve performance.

  • Rendering motion menus from DVD ST PRO

Urgent question regarding motion menus in DVD ST PRO,
I’m creating a DVD including lots of motion menus; on top of my background video I have a template using some overlay shapes from DVD ST PRO. When ”building” the project DVD ST PRO start to render the menus....
The motion video is some good MPEG2 footage from compressor, but is this rendering process during build, a second compression of the already compressed MPEG2 material ... a second compression using the compressor setting from DVD ST PRO preferences? In other words a compression of already compressed material?????
Can I get a better motion menu picture quality by adding my non compressed asset to the project and let DVD ST Pro render and encode the motions menus??? (Only one time)

    Jobbe:
    From the DVDSP User Manual:
    =====================================================
    About Menu Rendering
Depending on how you create your standard menus, they may have to be rendered
into an MPEG-2 video asset when you build your project. The menu must be
rendered if it uses any of the following:
    • Assets assigned to a button
    • Shapes
    • Drop zones
    • Text objects
    • SIF (MPEG-1 or MPEG-2), 1/2 D1, or cropped D1 video
Standard menus that only use a background (whether still or video), an overlay, and
one or more audio files do not get rendered.
Whether the menu gets rendered or not can be important for a couple of reasons:
    • The time it takes. Rendering menus is a process that composites all of the menu
elements, one frame at a time, and creates an MPEG-2 file out of these composited
frames. Depending on your system and the length of your menus, this can take a
significant amount of time to process. See “Menu Preferences” on page 115 for more
    information.
    • Extra processing can affect video. If your menu background video must be rendered,
the extra processing has the potential to change the video a small amount.
Anytime you decode compressed video, process it (such as by compositing shapes
or text over it), then recompress it, you can expect some subtle changes to the
background video. In those cases where you have meticulously encoded your
background video before assigning it to a menu, this extra processing could
    noticeably change the video.
When SD menus are rendered, they are encoded at 7 Mbps using the one-pass VBR
method. HD menus are rendered at 21 Mbps using the one-pass VBR method.
    =====================================================
Then in those cases you better use a non compressed video as background.
    Hope that helps !

  • Encore CS4 crash on render motion menus

When I first installed Encore CS4 (Windows 64-bit computer), it crashed every time I rendered my motion menus. I found a thread on this forum from 2009 that discussed this issue, and installed the Roxio patch (or whatever it was called)--that was the recommended solution. After that, render motion menus worked fine so I thought the problem was fixed.
But over the past few weeks, it has started happening again--intermittently at first. But today, every time I go to render a motion menu--with different PSD and MPEG-2 files--it crashes every single time. I am beyond frustrated.
What should I do? Since Encore has rendered motion menus fine for the past few months for me, I'm doubting that it's the Roxio issue. I read somewhere that profiles can get corrupted and can be reset. But I have no idea how to do that. So before I start screwing around with stuff, I figured I would come here and see if anyone has any ideas for me.
    Thanks for your help.

    Here's what I might try.
Start new project (probably after restarting my machine for good measure).
Open a library menu with motion.
    Render. Does that work?
If so, I'd look a bit harder at the motion assets. Try an old project that worked, and bring those assets into a new project for motion.
I'd try reinstallng the roxio patch, if it fixed this before. (I don't think was what it was intended to fix, but I wouldn't argue.)
If none of that works, I'd consider a repair install. See number 1 here:

  • Encore cs5 motion menus not working when build to flash

Hello my question is this, I have created a dvd in encore cs5. I have created motion menus in AE.
Everything works great when I build to DVD. However when I export to flash my animated menu is working but the buttons (play move, chapter select , extras) do not show up until the animation is complete. Is this a simple fix? or should I make the menus static?

Hmm... what version of the Flash Player are you testing with
(full version, including release number)? You can find out which
    version you're using here:

  • Encore 2.0 motion menus not previewing?

I have been having some trouble with motion menus...I got a copy of Encore 2.0 several years ago and it worked fine then. I recently had a need for it again so I re-installed it and started a project.
My problem is that even with the video transcoded, added to the menu, and the motion menus rendered, it doesn't show up in the preview. I can hear the audio, but it doesn't show the video. After tinkering with this for a little bit I went ahead and burned a disc, thinking that my problem was just a preview issue. The finished disc also doesn't work. You hear the audio and the buttons and timelines work fine, but no motion menus.
I found a discussion on here a while back about changing registry entries (for when Encore gets hung up on importing) and I had a similar issue. I tried that and it worked. I wondered if something similar may be causing the motion menus not to work.
I should mention that I tried re-installing Encore with no such luck.
    Any ideas?

Awesome. I checked out the other thread, and I didn't find the solution directly, but somewhere they mentioned "layers" and I realized how ignorant I was. The background layer was turned on by default, so I couldn't see the video that was playing behind it. I just toggled it off and presto! The menu works.
    Thanks again.

  • Blu-ray Motion Menus in Encore CS4

Okay. Just upgraded to Encore CS4 from CS3. Few nice changes.
Have crashed about 10 times (in one hour) doing simple things like, assigning folders, playing video, adding menus. Can anyone say maintenance release???
    Here's a question...
WHY CAN'T I SEE THE VIDEO I HAVE ASSIGNED TO A MENU WHEN I SIMULATE?
This was working in CS3 now it's NOT in CS4. Tried on two different machines, one with ATI card an the other with nVidia!
    ADOBE... are you there???

That's right. CS4 simply behaves different to CS3!
I have never had to render out a menu to preview it. We only create motion menus for Blu-ray and only use highlight layers from Photoshop. In CS3, when you right clicked on a menu in Encore and clicked "simulate from here", you would see your highlight layers over the video immediately.
NOW, with CS4, you must render out the menu after clicking "simulate from here" to see it. VERY annoying but I'm sure Adobe did this for a good reason.
Pop-up menus I am glad to report actually work! We haven't figured out how to create motion pop-up menus yet but I suspect this is not available yet in Encore.
If anyone knows any differently, I'd love to hear it.
What's fixed and I'm SO GLAD is that during simulation, the SKIP FORWARD chapter button WORKS!!! In CS3, you had to pause the video and then could skip forward. Now, like any other normal program, while the video is playing, you can skip forward.
I would thank Adobe for fixing this but, let's face it, this just should have worked in CS3!
    Regards,
    Darren

I also happens when I try to export movies with Motion 5.
Does anyone have the same problem with my new iMac?

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    First, empty the Trash.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it, then drag or copy it — do not type — into the Terminal window:
    find . $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 -o -acl \) 2> /dev/null | wc -l
Press return. The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
The output of this command, on a line directly below what you entered, will be a number such as "35." Please post it in a reply.

  • Stop motion menus altogether

I hate the motion menus. Hate them. I want simple straightforward non-moving graphics. I will use the one's Apple provides and have tried to stop the motion but they still move. I've dragged the slider to 0 for any menu that has motion yet they still do some movement, albeit less than before. I just want plain, easy to read menus/themes.
I know I can replace the graphics with my own. I don't want to do that. I want the ones Apple provides to not move. At all. (And there are some that also add their own sound effects even though I've killed the audio on them too.)
    Thank you.

I see that it, in this case, can be green, or grey like the rest of the app. Does green mean there is motion? (i would think so.) It was grey before I clicked it. Setting it to green didn't kill the motion. Nor does grey.
I picked out all the simple, appealing themes I could find but many still have motion. The one's I didn't pick that may not have motion were too ugly to use. I am using Brushed Metal 1 for this project and even though it doesn't have a motion logo (that man again) it still has motion. I see that the graphic for the background is a movie as well so even though the motin menus are set at zero, there is still some motion in that movie, alas.
There isn't something else I do? A box to uncheck? Would dragging the movie for the graphic out and back in from its well do anything good? (Replacing it would but I don't want to create graphics, yet... Maybe I'll have to)

  • Motion menus stopped working

I used to be able to use motion menus, but my last 2 projects, I've been unable to use them. Instead of motion, I see gray screen (but the rest of the menu works, and the text is there). Does the same with the motion preview button (I'm using DSP 3) as with the actual DVD.
Is this a known issue? I have upgraded OS's (but i'm not sure when exactly this became a problem).

I have the same problem and have had no luck searching the net for a solution:(
Instead of motion, I get the gray screen (color of the video background in the preferences).
If I use the simulator, the counter indicates that the video is playing, but the video is masked behind the colored overlay. If I click on a menu button, the video for the motion menu plays for an instant before the button-linked clip begins playing... If I build and burn a disc, this does not happen - that is, the motion menu video does not play for an instant, when a menu button is pressed. Sure would like to resolve this.
