Encore subtitles don't appear on DVD

Hi, I've put subtitles on a video in Encore.  They need to appear on the DVD (client does not want option to turn them off).  All looks fine in the preview window, but when I build the project and burn to disc, there are no subtitles on the video.  Am I missing something obvious?  I can't find anything in Encore which gives an option for the subtitles to be on or off.  I've been wrestling with this for days and my deadline is looming.  Any help with this would be most welcome.
Shaun

The DVD spec allows subtitles to be on or off. Even if you set them up as turned on, and provide no option for a menu to turn them off, all a user has to do is to use their remote to turn them off. I see no option in Encore for remote subtitle action to be restricted.
You need to take the project back to Premiere, add the subtitles there, and make them part of the video. What your client wants are not really "subtitles" as provided as an option on DVDs. Well, they are subtitles, but the restriction you want is no possible; at least not in Encore.
I don't know if scripting allows this, but your solution is straight forward.
The only problem: I don't think Premiere provides an option for importing a subtitle  track (you can export from Encore if you added the subtitles there).

  • Chapters naming - names don't appear on DVD

I have several chapters in every timeline, every chapter is named in Encore with specific name, but on DVD there are no names - chapters are named only as C1-Cxx. How to name chapters in Encore to have chapters names burned on DVD ?
    thx,
    M.

    Mike.
    Don't understand.
Where are you seeing these names? If you're talking about in a software player, then the title will need to be registered with a database before this works, as you have to do for CD-Audio as well.
    WMP, WinDVD etc will
    i not
pick up Chapter Names from the Authoring application's Abstraction layer, as all it sees are the VM commands.
    Example:
In DVD language, a button to play the main movie, chapter 3 looks like
    JumpVTS_PTT (tt 1, ptt 3)
    and not
Play Main Movie, "Going to the Mall"
Hope this makes sense, as I am not at all sure I have actually answered your question.

  • UP Against a Deadline Panic--Subtitles Don't Burn to DVD

Everything in Encore CS4 works perfectly--except the subtitles that do not burn to the DVD.  They preview fine in the Monitor, but they do not show  on the burned DVD--everything else on the DVD is there crystal sharp and clear.  Anyone have any possible fixes.  I am bang up against a deadline and I have gone over the tutorials and docs and am doing everything by the book.  The project is an SD DV DVD project.  Help!

    Jeff,
Thanks for the quick response.  I had to go out on a shoot, and just got back to a computer hooked up to the net.  I decided to try a completely simple project.  An SD dv avi, with subtitles put on in Premiere with a simple menu with one play button. I added a subtitle track, put on two more subtitles, which again played perfectly on the Encore monitor.  Simple flowchart:   Project x> menu play button> video asset.  Burned perfectly, menu works, video looks great.  Of course, Premiere subtitles burned--BUT not the Encore subtitles.  Go figure.  By the way, I had an Encore using colleague check it out.  He hasn't a clue why it won't work!  So, I am redoing the original big project, putting on subtitles in Premiere.
But I still would like to know whether it is me or Encore that is screwing up.  This last test was an absolute basic test. And I would certainly like to use Encore fror subtitles in the future--it is much faster than doing them in Premiere. Any ideas?

  • Imported Subtitles Don't Burn on DVD Disc

I am new to Encore. These are the steps I followed. New project, import an .AVI as an asset, create a timeline, drag the .AVI on a timeline, then Import Subtitles as a text script selecting an adb.txt file that I paid to have created. In the monitor the subtitles play. In the preview mode they do not. When I do File > Build DVD > DVD Disc the subtitles are not displayed on the disc.
It is only a 6 minute video that I want the video and the subtitles to automatically play - just as it appears in the monitor. I did the check project button and it stated that I didn't have an end action set. I don't need it to do anything when it is done with playing the video and subtitles the first time.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Angie

I just read your post from yesterday where you wrote
"a button must always be selected when you enter a menu, so you would never have a case where no button is selected (but you can fake this with a button with no subpictures set to be your default button, although this is a usability design flaw)."
I want to create a DVD to use as the source for creating VHS copies, so I think it would be OK to use a fake button process.
If you agree, can you explain how to do this?

  • Encore: Scene Select not appearing on DVD

I created a DVD project in Encore with several chapters. When I preview the project on the computer there is a circle that I can move to the chapter I want to select. When I burn the DVD, the circle indicator appears when I watch the DVD on the computer but not on a DVD player. This is a problem because I can't tell what chapter is being selected. I tried it on several DVD players with the same results. Any advice on how to fix this problem?

When playing the DVD on the computer you probably clicked the buttons directly and didn't use the "virtual remote" of the DVD player software. My guess is that the button routing of your menu is not as it should be.
    First enable
"Show Button Routing" in the Menu Editor. Then uncheck
"Automatically Route Buttons" in the menu's Properties. Now you can drag and drop the arrows the way you want the navigation keys on the remote control to work.

  • Subtitles do not appear in simulate while it appears in timeline

Please help...with your experience and genius brain. I'm panicking for this...
Subtitles suddenly stop appearing in simulator after I changed the text in the menu. (It was working fine till the point.) I thought I might have clicked on something accidently, so I opened up old file, but it's doing the same thing. Since then, any other projects have the same problem.
I clicked on "Force display" and clicked on "Apply to stream." Subtitles appear correctly in timeline as I play the feature. However, if I play it in simulator, subtitles don't show up (The subtitles display box is also checked). It's crazy to see it working fine in timeline but it doesn't in simulator!
I restarted the computer. Subtitles still don't appear in simulate. When I burned a DVD, of course subtitles don't appear.
Is this a bug of DVD Studio pro that was hidden and suddenly triggered? Or is there a secret button or setting I accidently changed?
I use DVD Studio Pro 4 Version 4.2.1

Please help this hopeless girl. Thank you so much in advance...

The Windows version of QuickTime Player Pro has never included a "New Movie Recording" feature.
It is a "Mac only" feature of the software.

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
There are numerous converters online to convert the .VRO files into .VOB or MP4 or other which should be supported by Premiere Elements.
Maybe explore the free MPEG Streamclip for the conversion

  • Deadline Panic--Encore Subtitles Do Not Burn with DL link Project

I have a big SD DV project that I DL ed to Encore where I did the usual Menu and Chapter Work, and this time I added subtitles.  They are made by the book, per the docs, as shown in the tutorials, and they preview perfectly from the Encore Monitor, as do all the other Encore parts.  The problem is that the subtitles not burn to the DVD--nada, nothing, zilch, zip, nicht.  Everything else burns from Encore CS4 and everything else works perfectly.
I could have done the subtitles in PrCS4, but there were a lot and that operation simply goes a lot faster in Encore.  But, the choice to do it there may have been a major mistake.  However, I would like to salvage this if I can.  I simply cannot find where I have missed any steps!  It seems to me that if it previews in the Encore Monitor, it ought to burn.  I have only one subtitle track and one audio track, which ought to be in compliance with the DVD standard.
I know this is perhaps not strictly the right forum, though it is related in essence because of the DL connectivity concept.  I have, of course, posed the question in the Encore Subtitles forum, but don't expect any response from there in anything short of a week.  Just not many posts ever in that forum.  And I know that a lot of users here also burn their projects with Encore.   Can anyone corroborate this as a bug, or tell me what might possibly be wrong?
    Thanks very much.

Check your topic in the Encore forum.

  • Is Encore strong enough for mass producing DVD's?

    Hi All,
I am using encore for my authoring needs and have just completed two big projects, 1 on DVD5 and 1 on DVD9. Everything went on to DLT quite easily, although creating check-discs for the 9 was a nightmare and i had to burn a compressed five just to see if i was in working order.
However now it has gone to plant, i am starting to panic a wee bit. Other people i know use spruce and Scenarist, but few (if any) use encore. Don't get me wrong, i think it is a fine program, just suffering first night nerves.
    Any answers??
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Roguedan.
EncoreDVD is perfectly good enough to produce commercial titles. We use it all the time, and despite the couple of niggles with DL (which I hasten to add is generally common to all applications, as the problems are all Layer Break related) I have no problems using it that I cannot either ignore completely or work through/around.
Stability? This is the stablest version yet - it gets better each release IMHO.
Cannot compare to Maestro, as I never owned that one.
Dual Layer - as long as you remebered to leave the 4-5% overhead, then you should be just fine.
If the disc is being pressed, then you
    i will
    be fine.
Personally, I swear by GEAR Pro Mastering Edition - it might seem expensive at $400, but once you get used to what it can do for the money, you'll wonder how you ever managed without it.
DDP images from a written disc or a project to either DLT tapes or HDD is a killer feature for me. This means I can tell Encore to create a folder and bring this over to GPME. Then I can make a DDP image to HDD, and write the DDP image to a DVD-ROM disc - this allows the use of Copy Protection measures,
i without the hassle & expense of using DLT tapes
but with exactly the same checksums being done to verify an accurate write of the crucial data.
You can also take a DLT tape & write it back to HDD. An invaluable double-check if you need to be absolutely certain beyond any doubt at all that your master is correctly written.

  • Encore SD Project Changes size after DVD Burn?

Okay I've never had any issues with Encore CS5.5, but most of my experience is with HD video so I could be missing something simple...
I built a Premiere Pro project and Adobe Dynamic Link'ed it over to Encore, created the menus etc and everything is great. Check Project finds no issues, it Previews perfectly and looks like this:
(screenshot taken directly from the Encore 'Preview' window)
Once on the DVD, I place the DVD into a DVD player and it comes out like this:
(Picture of DVD loaded in DVD Player/TV, where for some reason it has cut down all sides)
I tested it with multiple TV's and DVD players, changes aspect ratios, doubles checked that both Premiere and Encore files are correct sizes....... Having not worked with SD videos in Encore before... is there something simple I'm missing? I have the client waiting for the DVD, but I'm completely at a loss.
    The footage is 720x480, 29.97fps

Alright, I tried double and triple checking the project settings and burned the DVD again, with the same results. Here are the project settings:
    I'm at a total loss.
I will now try what John recommended, though I don't see how that will change because the menu I used I COPIED directly from the stock encore menu library, edited in photoshop and saved back into the Encore library under a different name (as I've always done with ALL previous HD menu's with perfect results. The ONLY difference here being it's SD instead of HD) and the whole project comes out cropped on all four sides.... so I see no way that it could be an issue on the Premiere side of things.
I'll still try it though because I'm completely at a loss......

  • Image Processing and machine vision don't appear in Function Palette

    Hi,
I have problem and I can't solve it
Image Processing and machine vision don't appear in Function Palette, Although I set up NI imaq and NI Vision Acquisition Why??
    Anyone can help me?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If the image is already a Grayscale U8 image you would just have to save it to a bitmap file using the IMAQ WriteFile VI. If not, use the IMAQ Cast Image VI to convert it to a Grayscale U8 and then save it.
Also, it would probably be better to create a new thread for questions like these.

  • Some options don't appear in MAX

I have an Agilent 86142A OSA connected via GPIB-USB-HS cable to my PC. MAX recognizes it in the tree, but a lot of options (like self-test, calibrate) don't appear. I'm new in MAX, so I'm not sure whether this is acceptable or not. Have I made some error in installing the device, or do some options simply not show up for particular devices? I've attached an image of MAX in this situation.
If indeed the device is installed fine, how does one perform a test to see if the connection is good if the Self-Test icons don't appear?
Please let me know if it seems the device has been detected properly and all is well.
    Thanks!

Everything looks find. You are not supposed to have options for self-test or calibrate. Those would only be for NI's DAQ cards.

Can someone download this PDF and let me know why the jpg images appear fine when viewing with desktop browser, but some images in the same document don't appear when viewing in Safari on the iPhone? Vector artwork and text show fine. Shows white space where JPGs should be.
    Specifically, pages 1 and 4:
    http://www.teamassociated.com/pdf/cars_and_trucks/TC6/Factory_Team/tc6ft_manual-mobile-4rg b.pdf

I just heard about this day before yesterday at the InDesign Print and ePublishing Conference in Washington, DC. When using display on an iOS device JPEG 2000 is not supported. There are two flavors of JPEG: JPEG & JPEG 2000.
    Here's a Wikipedia article about JPEG 2000:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG_2000
If I go to page 1 and 4 in your PDF and use Output Preview in Acrobat Pro (in Acro 9 > Advanced Print Production > Output Preview). Click on the Object Inspector tab and click on the image. It uses a JPEG 2000 filter.
Since I don't know how the image was created and saved, I'll leave it to you to resave it as normal JPEG.

Some flash drives/USBs don't appear in Finder. But they appear in Disk Utilities so how do I get them to appear in Finder?

If you've never used them before (they are new) then they are not formatted for Macs.
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
When you want to remove an external device you must Eject it:
First, select the Desktop icon of the external disk. CTRL- or RIGHT-click and select Eject from the context menu.
