Encore transcoding

My question is, I shoot 1080 but I edit in 720 meaning I just crop on a 1080 timeline then set the crop to 720 in export settings and change output size to match the new source. I want to use Dynamic Link but that is the problem, when I bring the footage in I can't figure out how to crop it to 720 for output. I'm trying to get it to Blu-Ray, 24fps, 720 which I've been plenty of other times by exporting a AVI(uncompressed) in premiere then bring it into Encore, transcoding again blah blah blah... huge time waster. Does anyone have any ideas if what I'm trying to do is possible through the Dynamic Link option. Thanks heaps!

Yes of course its a huge time waster encoding twice.
Just export direct to dvd or bd in Premiere and import that into Encore.
Have to wait until i get home to see how you can set Encore to 720p with DL.

  • CS4 - Does one need to Premiere render before Encore transcode?

    Production Suite CS4
Question: Does one need to Premiere render before Encore transcode?
I have an Encore asset which is dynamically linked to a Premiere sequence. Do I need to render the sequence in Premiere before transcoding it in Encore i.e. is Premiere rendering necessary? Thanks in advance.

Adobe Encore technical support told me that Encore will not automatically render the Premiere sequence. You must manually render the sequence in Premiere before transcoding in Encore.

  • Encore Transcodes MPEG-2 Audio & Bitrate Error During Build

Encore transcodes the audio but the audio is already MPEG-2. The video and audio assets have following properties:
    .mpv = 8.0 Mbit/s maximum (VBR 6-8 MB)
    .mpa = 0.2 Mbit/s fixed
And during transcoding the error "Bitrate to High" stops the build process. Is there somewhere a limiter in action, or what is it?

    Sir Wilkes...
Okay, I set the Bitrate to 9.4 Mbit/s, let's see if it works thru...
    mpa:
The audio should be "MainConcept MPEG-Audio MPEG-1 Layer II-Audio" in stereo, however I have no program affirm that. The import works, I was just surprised that the audio gets transcoded, possibly to Dolby Digital. This company always delivers mpa's since they work with Avid. I have the video transcoded right there since the Avid 1x1 uncompressed quicktime codec does not work with any Adobe products, well, normally we do the Avid stuff on Mac but my boys are filming in London and Greenland so le chef has to do this one by himself.
    This DVD is PAL.

  • Encore transcoded audio into mono instead of stereo!!

    OK here is my workflow:
Shot 1080p video on Sony XDCAM PMW-EX1 with stereo audio track. Imported footage using Sony XDCAM Transfer (makes .mov files). If you open the .mov files in QT Player they show as having Track 1 - Video, Track 2 - Audio (left), Track 3 - Audio (right). I then used QT player on most of these files to set in and out points and then copy the selections, saving them into referenced movie files. (Did not do this on all of them though). In QT Player, all of these movie files play fine. Dragging the movie files into Peak 5.2 you can see they have a Track 2 and Track 3 for the audio (stereo!).
Then I dragged all my movies (referenced and non) into Adobe Encore CS4 and selected everything and transcoded it all. (I dragged it to the timeline befoer transcoding.) The timeline shows just one audio track. It's the audio track that appeared when I dragged and dropped the video from the bin into the timeline. Should I have made a second audio track before dragging and dropping?
Because when I did Build, and it made the BMDV folder, then I burned that to a BD-R, and played it, it's in mono. All the AC3 files are in mono (left channel only). Why would that happen? Shouldn't it automatically get both channels of the sound and do stereo, or warn you before burning if it's in mono?

You are correct, sir. I'm surprised the software is not intelligent enough to recognize that. It really should be drag-and-drop simple. It should at least ask the user, "do you want to discard one audio track?"
To solve this I tried the following: go into Final Cut and export the audio as stereo AIF, then drop that in. I wanted to avoid having to re-transcode all the video, but when I did this, it decided to anyway, then had an error. So I deleted the transcode folders. Then I went to transcode again and now it's saying "Error Creating Transcode Folder" or whatever. Sigh.
This program just seems too finicky and not very robust. I'm going to upgrade to Final Cut Studio 7 and just use Compressor 3.5, which finally can export a BDMV folder that I can just burn to whatever.

  • Gamma Shift with Encore Transcoded Material

    Hello,
I use Edius as my NLE and have always noticed that if I let Encore CS4/CS5encode my assets the gamma of the resulting DVD or BD is higher resulting in a grey, milky look to the footage.
    1)  Does anybody else see this?
    2)  What is causing this?  Color space issue?
    3)  Can it be avoided?
This issue has baically stopped me from ever using Encore beyond a compiler of assets.  It has been there since CS 4 for me.
Any ideas would help and might save my lowered opinion of this software.
    Thanks

    Hello,
Thank you for the tip about using AME.  I thought Encore CS 5 used the media encoder in the background automatically.
The gamma shift is gone and I am happy to be using Encore in a more prominent role going forward.
One thing, it seems a bit odd regarding transcode settings.  I can not find a way to enter AME through Encore to make presets.
Are the presets in Encore the same as AME?
Any help about this proceedure would be appreciated!

  • Mainconcept Mpeg Pro HD and Encore transcode problems with blu-ray

I wanted to use premiere pro to edit my HDV files and import them into Encore to produce Blu-ray discs without transcoding. I have tried the Mainconcept Mpeg Pro HD plugin 3.1 as this should provide smart transconding of the edited file. I have been having difficulty in exporting from Premiere a file which will import into Encore and to flag it as don't transcode for blu-ray.
I have only been able to get Encore to not transcode if the file is demultiplexed into seperate video and audio files and that the video file must be a program stream. Unfortunatly I can only get Mpeg Pro to export a transport stream and I have to multiplex it onto a program stream for Encore.
Is there a way to export from Mpeg Pro with smart transcoding a file which will not be transcoded by Encore.
    Regards Trevor

If I choose the default BR disc export settings from the MainConcept MPEGPro export module, the file is automatically set to Multiplexing:None.
Is that what you are trying to do?
Another method to try is to make sure that the audio settings in a program stream from MPEGPro match the BR audio transcoding settings in Encore. If the audio is mismatched, then the whole file will be re-transcoded in Encore.

  • Need to keep Premiere Pro open while Encore transcoding?

So I used the Dynamic Link function to export my project from Premiere Pro CS5 to Encore and started building a Blu Ray disc. Do I need to keep Premiere Pro open while Encore is transcoding?
Task Manager says Premiere is still using 20-40% CPU so I am scared to close it . . .

I agree that you can close premiere, but I'd close it before starting the transcode or build. (Call it superstition.) But if you close it (or even not), adobe with run pproheadless (the premiere end of a dynamic link).
Are you using ame to transcode for Encore? (A setting as of CS5.) Curious.

  • Encore Transcode and Write Times

I am creating content in PP CS6 and then using Dynamic Link to send it to Encore.
After creating a 2 hr. DVD the transcode and writing time seems way excessive.  Any thoughts?
I am running all this on a 2010 Mac Pro 2.6 Quad Core Xeon with 32 GB Memory and maybe 20 TB of disc space.

First off, please tell us what the source video is (i.e. AVCHD 1080p30) and then how long is it taking to encode? Any effects/filters added to the video?
Most of us will recommend to NOT use Dynamic Link - use File > Export > Media and set up your own parameters using the "MPEG-2 DVD" format and one of the existing presets that you can modify for bitrate (according to program length). This export method will create the proper content for a DVD, being .m2v video and .wav audio files. On the Mac, you might have .aac instead, not sure how Mac works. But anyway, you then import those two files into Encore, do whatever menus and authoring you want, and the nice thing about this workflow is that it literally takes only MINUTES to be ready to burn, since the video encoding is already done. I usually just create an IMAGE from Encore (an .iso file) and then burn using another app. Super quick.
For myself, encoding the video out of Premiere gives me a break after hours of editing. Then I can jump into the Encore DVD project fresh, and within minutes have a proof DVD ready to check. If I need to make changes to the menu perhaps, a few more minutes for the second DVD.
    Thanks

  • Encore Transcoding Problem

    Dell,
Microsoft XP P Intel Xeon 2.27Ghz 2.5 GB of RAM
I have recently sucessfully burned a 30 min DVD and when I tried to do the next one, it failed immediatly and has failed since. Often it is the classic PPRoheadless.exe error sign that comes up when it is taking too long and then crashes.  Some of these files from Premiere contain files that are directly from the CANNON camera in a m2ts. file or something, AVI, FLV etc, so I dont know if that is the root of the problem. I have been cleaning my disc drive out of unecessary files and have 7 GB available on my C:. ( i know that is not alot, have been doing a disc clean up as i type).
So far for solutions i've got the suggestion of re-installing, but will I have 10 VERY VERY important videos done that need to be shipped out this week and am afraid of losing a great deal of my final projects ( like when it says the media source is gone where the old clip used to be). I will try to re-install it, most of the raw footage are saved on seperate Terabyte external drives.
Are there any other ideas? is it that i need a lot more space available?  let me know if you need more details.

What KIND of external drives?  USB/Firewire/Esata? (usb drives are too slow in data transfer for video editing)

  • Encore transcoding data for ages........

    Hello,
I am trying to make a Blu-ray authoring and the trancoding proccess takes for ever. The indication bar is not progreeing from one point any further. I have the computer working over one and a half days now. It is a project of the following data:
    Mpeg-2 blu-ray
    29 GB  (134 minutes film)
    Full HD (1920x1080)
    PAL
My computer has Windows 7 64-bit, 12GB of RAM, Quadro FX 4800 graphic card.
Does anybody know why the trancoding proccess takes for ever? The program doesn't crash though. Byt the progress bar is not moving further than a point.
    Thanks
    Giannis.

I just can say that it doesn't happen on my pc.
An hour and half movie takes less than 8 hours to be transcoded in H264 mode, less if you set mpeg2 HD.
And I have just 8 MG RAM.
    If this happens, probably:
-RAM is used for other applications,
-or input datas have something that PPro "doesn't like"
-or some "complicated effects" are used (like antishaking and\or resizing ones).
-What output settings have you used?
-29 Gb is the expected value displayed in AE windows? (AE lies!!)
-Usually I never reach 24 Gb for a complete 2 hour BD with menus and other stuffs.
-Which kind of video and audio files have you put in timeline?
    Ciao

  • Very poor video quality after transcoding in Adobe Encore CS5.1

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I have very poor video quality after transcoding the video file (MPEG) in  Adobe Encore CS5.1. Below you see my used settings in my filmproject.
The problem exists after transcoding in Adobe Encore CS5.1. I checked all steps and found out that there is no problem until transcoding. My exported file  in MPEG has very good video and audio quality.
    Facts:
    1. Camcorder: Panasonic AG-AC160AEJ
Operating System : Windows 7, 64 Bit, Ultimate edition
    Source files: MTS files
    Recording settings (clip settings):
    Type: MPEG Movie
    Image Size: 1920 x 1080
    Frame Rate: 25,00
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1,0
    2. Sequence settings in Premiere Pro
Sequence was created from Clip directly with settings above.
    3. Exporting settings in Adobe Premiere Pro:
Match sequence settings was activated. Now other changes were set.
    4. Exported File:
    Video
    Image Size: 1920 x 1080
    Data Transfer Rate: 25920 kBit / s
    Frame rate: 25
    Audio:
    Bit rate: 384 kBit / s
    Channels: 2 (stereo)
    Frequence: 48 kHz
    5. Transcoding settings in Adobe Encore:
I used different transcoding settings such as automatic DVD Transcoding, CBR and VBR.I also set “use maximum render quality”. But all results were always the same: very poor quality.
Why does the encore transcoding cause such bad video quality?
How can I solve this problem?
    Please help me soon.
    Best regards.

    Hi Ann,
    1) I did not only „Automatic (based on source)“ options in my tests, but also many other customized options.
The results are very poor. I have done a new test with the following settings. The result is also poor:
    Download link: http://www.klavierlehrer-bayern.de/download/test_mpeg2dvd_1.m2v
    Export Settings:
    Format: MPEG2-DVD
    Preset: Custom
Codec: MainConcept MPEG Video, Quality: 5
    Frame Rate: 25 fps
    Field Order: Upper
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Automatic (based on source)
    Render at Maximum Rate: [active]
    Bitrate Encoding: VBR, 2 pass
    Minimum Bitrate (Mbps): 5
    Target Bitrate (Mbps): 9
    Maximum Bitrate (Mbps): 9
    GOP Settings
    M Frames: 4
    N Frames: 12
    Use Maximum Render Quality: [active]
    Multiplexer: None
    2) Why shouldn’t I use the “Match Sequence Settings” in exporting? Because of the big output file size?
I used it and the results are very good as I expected:
    Download link: http://www.klavierlehrer-bayern.de/download/test_MatchSequenceSettings.mpeg
    Export Settings
    Match Sequence Settings [selected]
    1920 x 1080, 25 fps, Upper, Quality 50
    User Maximum Render Quality: [active]
    3) I tried also Dynamic Link in PremierePro (to Encore).
    The results are also poor.
    4) I will test also LagarithLoslessCodec and frameserving +DGMPGDec. But the video is vertical long drawn-ot.
I think I did not use it correctly.
    Regards

  • Can I change users on my mac while Encore is transcoding?

I have several user accounts on my mac to handle several companies that I do business with. I often work on several projects at the same time. I was wondering if I start a transcode in Encore while logged in as one user, can I switch to another user account to do work and then switch back to the user account that has Encore transcoding without doing damage to the transcode?
I'm sure several multitaskers out here are interested in doing this as well.

    Seriously?
You want to try & swap user accounts whilst encoding/writing a DVD?
A-Hahahahaha. Lots of luck with that plan, my friend!

  • Encore CS6 not possible to avoid transcoding

Why does encore CS6 transcode some H.264 streams and some not? They are different sequences exported from the same project with the same settings out of premiere CS6. The parameters of all streams equal the settings in encore. But for some it is not possible to change the setting in encore to not transcode.

Yes, I used H.264 Bluray 1440x1080 anamorph. I guess Encore ignored the anamorph flag for some files and transcoded them a second time to 1440x1080 - the result is a visible frame with a distorted 4:3 aspect ratio. I have found a resolution. I replaced the transcoded files in the encore transcode folder with copies of the original files and renamed them like the transcoded files: "original filename"_sessionFiles_Asf_session_1_video.m4v
Perhaps its possible to avoid transcoding by simply placing renamed copies (in that name system above) of the original files in the transcode folder. I will try it in the future.

  • Encore says "Don't Transcode" but it does

I'm creating a DVD in Encore. I've compressed my video using Compressor.
When I import m2v and ac3 assets to my project, under the DVD transcode settings column it says "Don't Transcode". I've got my transcode settings set to "Don't Transcode", yet Encore transcodes.
So, how do I prevent Encore from transcoding something that's already compressed for DVD? I really don't want to switch back to DVD Studio Pro, but I don't want Encore to recompress my already-compressed files.

    Is this CS5?
    CS4
Please clarify: is it set as "Don't Transcode" upon import, or after you set it in transcode settings?
I don't see settings for don't transcode upon import. I set it in transcode settings and that's all I've done.
Does it show "Don't transcode" for both the m2v and the ac3?  And all the assets?
    Just M2V.
Is it transcoding all your assets, or only one?
In another project, it tried to transcode an M2V. The project setting was NTSC. The M2V was NTSC. Just like this one.

  • Encore wants to transcode m2v files? Why?

    Hi!
I haven't used Encore for long time yet, so this might be a stupid question... but among other things, I use it to transfer my own digi-tv recordigs from Topfield to DVD. Usually it goes like this:
    1) Demux the .rec file from Topfield with ProjectX
    2) Import resulting .m2v and .mp2 files to Encore
    3) set .mp2 to Don't transcode - the .m2v is automatically set to Don't transcode
Now, I have stumbled accross couple of movies where this didn't work. Suddenly, Encore (2.0) says that the .m2v files are Untranscoded and doesn't let me choose Don't transcode for them. What is wrong with the files? (In the same project I have some .m2v files that work at the same time...)
Any ideas? Encore doesn't tell me what's wrong. Tools that I should use? I really do not want to re-transcode those MPEG-files...

Just a guess, but are the m2v files 704x480 (NTSC) or 704x576 (PAL)?
While Encore accepts these sizes and they are DVD-legal resolutions, Encore insists on transcoding them to 720x480 or 720x576.
    There are a few solutions:
    1. Let Encore transcode the files. The quality shouldn't be affected, but it might take a long time depending on the length of the programs.
    2. Manually transcode the files with another encoder.
    3. Change your acquisition method to create 720x480 files instead of 704x480. This might not be possible.
    3. Use another authoring application that accepts this resolution. While 352x240, 352x480, 704x480, and 720x480 are all legal resolutions for NTSC DVDs, Encore only accepts 704x480 and 720x480 and will transcode 704x480 to 720x480.
