Encore vs Powerpoint-Presenter tool

I give alot of presentations which include text slides, photos slides and video slides. Is it viable to replace Powerpoint or Apple Keynote with Encore as a presenter tool. Its just a little frustrating to work on my projects with Adobe After effects, photoshop, Premeier Pro and  then have to output my final product to Powerpoint.

Thanks for your timely response.
Yeah, I knew it was Flash. My client didn't. That's why I wrote, "It's not a DVD. It's Flash" :-D
That's very sage advice, and I had been noodling with Encore for the better part of the day yesterday before I posted my query. That's how I came up with the list of questions in my post. These are things I couldn't get Encore to do. What I'm still trying to figure out is is it because I don't know something, or is it becasue Encore doesn't do "that" in the way I think I want it to. I've been searching the manual(s) and tutorials. I can get close, but I haven't yet found exact answers to my exact questions that way.
I'm still not certain that they are really expecting it to be "just like last year", aka, the disk I used to supply the screenshot. I'm just trying to figure out what the differences really are, how I can sell doing it in Encore as "progress" because using a browser as the presentation platform is a better end-user experience than producing an entire Flash project, or if I can even make that argument with a straight face. With the options now available throgh Encore, is it a better solution for this project, even if I won't be exactly what they saw last year. Lastly, I'm also trying to divine what kinds of questions doing it in Encore might bring up from my client's point of view. If/when my client comes to me and says, "This is different, why?", I want to have an answer more than shrugging my shoulders and sayin', "I dunno. I couldn't get it to do that."
Thanks again for time and thoughts,

  • How do I get PowerPoint presentation to display properly without having PowerPoint?

Suggestions on how to get PowerPoint presentation to display properly aligned on MacBookPro? These are available for download as ppt, pps & pdf
Our co just came out with new presentations in PowerPoint. They are going toward iPad2, & suggest using Documents to Go on an iPad. But I'm trying to play the presentation on my MacBookPro 13" (April 2010), Snow Leopard. I have iWork & so it opens in Keynote which does not display it quite right. The alignment is off--it appears that the relationships between text boxes isn't quite the same. So there is a long table with arrows pointing to the totals at the bottom but the arrows are over the text.
I tried looking at it in Parallels 5 (Win 7) & it opened in Open Office. That looked better, but several slides aren't aligned right. They have horizontal lines between bullet points & the lines "creep" so that as it goes down the page the lines move up closer to the text & then on top of the text.
Not real up on PowerPoint or Keynote, but I'm guessing maybe the resolution or something is different that throws the alignment off. I am learning Keynote but had just dabbled with PowerPoint & of course had played slide shows created in PowerPoint that had been sent to me which usually didn't have as much text. Also if its just me looking at it, I can manage if it isn't lined up right, but to show to others, it needs to look
I need these to display properly since this is something to use with prospective clients. Also the presentation is designed so that different offices can select which slides they want to use. Our office is not using all of them. So I need to be able to select the slides as well as have them display properly.
Wondering if I could choose a power point reader with the pps to play it rather than having Keynote if that would work, but not sure how to do that.
I think the pdf displayed properly, but don't think I can select slides with that.
So how can I be able to select PowerPoint slides, & get them to display properly?  At 1st I thought it might be that I didn't have the font used, but it shows as Trebuchet MS which also shows in my font list on the mac side.
I would prefer not to have to buy PowerPoint & would prefer to not have to use Parallels or Bootcamp, although I can if needed. I purchased Outlook 2007 for Windows which I used to use to sync with my old Win mobile phone. thankfully I was able to get rid of that & get an iPhone & now use the iLife aps rather than needing Outlook.
Also related to this presentation are related files that can be downloaded in either mp3 or mp4.  I really don't know what the difference is or why choose one or the other.

OK, I found what seems to work. That is to open the actual ppt version of the download (not the one that had already been opened & saved in Keynote) in Open Office. So I had to open Open Office & then navigate to the file to open it so that it didn't open in Keynote.
At a One to One training on Keynote where I asked for help with this today he noted that it showed that the presentation had been created in an older version of PowerPoint--apparently 2003 for Windows which could explain some of the issues.
Opening it in Open office it displayed mostly ok.  There were 2 or 3 or so slides where I had to tweak horizontal lines between bullet points that had crept up so some where through the text rather than under it. So I just selected the lines & nudged them into position.
Its not perfect & for some reason, some of the lines seem a hair thicker than others (which I guess I could go back & figure out how to use the line thickness tool to adjust, but think I will leave well enough alone for now).
As near as I can tell, this seems to work about equally well doing this on the Mac side or in Parallels in Windows 7. So will stick with the Mac side.
This allows me to run the slide show with me controlling when the different bullet points, etc display. It didn't have any exotic animations or transitions--just rather plain vanilla ones.

  • Time and security protecting of PowerPoint presentations

I would like to know if it's possible to security protect a PowerPoint presentation and to time protect it also.
I have seen details of the security protection but not time protection.  Basically, we want to be able to allow use of a presentation which cannot then be copied or used after a period of time; ie 12 months.  This because we have to pay each year
to register a course and we need to be able to pass a proportion of the cost on; with the presentation they could avoid paying and have our presentation to be able to carry on using.
I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
    Thanks and best regards,
    Phil

    Hi,
As far as I know, Office has no build-in time protection feature. We might develop an add-on to get your goal.

  • Am trying to open a powerpoint presentation in keynote, but presentation is grayed out and keynote won't open. any ideas.

I am trying to open a powerpoint presentation in keynote, but it won't open. Presentation grayed out.Ideas

Firefox doesn't have any built-in ability to display PowerPoint files in a tab. You can check how Firefox is set to handle PowerPoint files in the Options dialog:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Applications
''This list may take a while to load.'' In the search box above the list, you can type pow and let Firefox filter it down. Usually these would say "Always Ask" but you might have customized them to "Use Microsoft Powerpoint".
There are some sites that have a Flash-based PowerPoint viewer, such as OneDrive/SkyDrive and SlideShare. Maybe Gmail has one now, too, I haven't checked. But all such sites also should have a separate download button, either before showing their viewer or as part of the viewer. If there are particular sites where you notice this problem, maybe someone know how to bypass the viewer on that site and go straight to a download.

  • Changing template background from a powerpoint presentation in Keynote?

Is simple to change the background template from a powerpoint presentation in Keynote?
In powerpoint it is very simple but I need to know if it is also in keynote and how, of course without erase the data from the presentation.  I have many powerpoint, excel and word files from MsOffice 07' and I need to know if I can change to iWorks without problems and if it will take me to much time to do it.

It could not be simpler;   click on Themes in the tool bar and select a theme:

  • Is it possible to retrieve an earlier version of a powerpoint presentation that has been over-written

I accidentally overwrote a powerpoint presentation and need to get it back.  Does anyone know if it is possible?  thanks

Ok. If I recall correctly, Powerpoint saves each new version using a temporary file name, then deletes the old version of the file and renames the temp file to the correct name.  This means that you have a chance that the old version might be recoverable.  You now need to Google "Mac file recovery" and see what tools you can find.
IMPORTANT: As you continue to work on your MacBook you run the risk that some other file will overwrite the data you want from the disk. Everything you do from now increases the risk of this happening.
    Good luck

  • How do I read MS Powerpoint presentations

I frequently receive course CD's created on PC's. They contain MS PPT presentations which do not work on the Mac. I simply throw them away, except I have one now that I really need. I have to be able to open and view the slide show.
Anyone in the same situation? What tools are available, other than buying MS Office?
    Thank you.

    And in Quick Look...
If there are any animations in the Powerpoint presentation, these are not viewable in Preview or Quick Look. You only see each slide. Better than nothing...

  • I want to control a PowerPoint presentation on my iPad remotely from my iPhone. Is there an app that allows me to wirelessly control my iPad from my iPhone?

I want to control a PowerPoint presentation on my iPad remotely from my iPhone. Is there an app that allows me to wirelessly control my iPad from my iPhone?

    Yes.
The app is called Keynote Remote and is available for both iPhone and iPad from the App Store. This app can also run Keynote presentations from your Mac from either your iPad or iPhone.
Both your iPad and iPhone need to be on the same WiFi Network. With your iPad Keynote file loaded, go to:
iPad > Keynote > Tool Menu (wrench) > Advanced > Remote and turnon "Enable Remotes"
on your iPhone set up the link:
Keynote Remote > Settings > New Keynote Link and follow instructions - you will be given a set of numbers, enter those numbers on the iPad and you are all set.
    Good Luck

  • Auto Updating PowerPoint Presentation

I have a PowerPoint presentation that has several embedded Excel charts.  Each time I open the ppt file it asks me if I want to update the links and I respond "yes".
Is there a way to open the ppt file and have the links update automatically without having to ask me to confirm that I want it to?
    Thanks.
    k

    Hi,
As far as I known, whenever we insert a linked Excel file into a presentation, PowerPoint sets the AutoUpdate property of the linked file to Automatic by default. This AutoUpdate Property of the object determines the manner in which PowerPoint Updates the
information of the linked file within the presentation.
I recommend we try the workaround: Set all the links to manual update then use the macro force update each links on startup of presentation. For more detailed information, please see the thread:

  • Does iWork come with a form of powerpoint presentation compatible with Microsoft Office Powerpoint?

I recently bought a MacBook Pro and need to purchase iWork or Microsoft Office. Does iWork come with a form of powerpoint presentation? If so, is it easy to use and compatible with Microsoft Office presentation software? The latter question is extremely important as we use Microsoft Office primarily at the college.

Yes, Keynote is iWork's PowerPoint equivalent. You can save as a PowerPoint file as well. Very easy to use IMO.

  • Optimizing PowerPoint Presentations

I work on an iMac running OSX 10.4.8 and am using PowerPoint 11.3.2. Within the Graphic Design group of a large corporation, we create our customer's PowerPoint presentations using the Macintosh then they take the finished products over to their PC environment.
We do not have an inter-department PC yet so a Mac is our only option (preferred by us, of course). Unfortunately, I find that the file sizes of the Mac files are exponential and seem to grow inexplicably with even the simplest text changes.
We are very well aware of how to optimize photo images and which formats to use. We also are very careful to use the 72 dpi resolution settings when saving files.
Also, I have tried all of the 'tips and tricks' I could find on the 'net about copying from Excel, dragging and dropping images vs. using the "Insert" function, etc.
I have a PC at home and I was able to find a nifty optimizing program (nxpowerlite) to use on files there and have been bringing our large Macintosh-generated files home before giving them to the clients and have been able to reduce the sizes from anywhere up to 9 Mb down to 786 Kb with very little visible degradation of the images!
So what gives? Is there some extraneous data which gets attached to the PowerPoint files every time they're opened and changed? Is there any way to 'optimize' Macintosh PowerPoint files the way you can on the PC?
I understand that Keynote is the way to go for the future but unfortunately this large Corporation doesn't seem to think that buying a different Macintosh program will help us solve the problem when we're trying to accomodate the 90% PC Microsoft PowerPoint users.
We are working on getting a PC in the office for Microsoft work but until then I'd really be curious to find out just what is happening with these files.
    Thanks!

Hi, V. Welcome to the Discussions.
One common cause of Mac PPT file bloat is the use of the "Allow Fast Saves" PowerPoint's preferences. See this post on another forum.
For additional ideas, I suggest you search or post-to the "PowerPoint" group you can find on the Microsoft Mac Support - Newsgroups page. These are Google Groups with active participation from MS PowerPoint users, including a variety of expert users.
Be sure to state the version of PowerPoint you are using if you post there.
I don't mean to send you somewhere else, but I've found numerous answers there for folks with questions related to MS products. Accordingly, it has often proved to be the first, best place to look for answers to questions such as you are asking.
    Good luck!

  • How do I  see powerpoint presentation on  VGA projector?

I have the mini DVI to VGA adapter. After I connect my macbook to a vga projector what function key or command do I use to see my powerpoint presentation on the VGA projector?

It is essentially 'plug and play' - this was taken from the following linked site...
Tip: To make sure that your computer automatically detects theexternal display or projector, be sure you plug the adapter into theexternal display or projector before you plug it into the computer.

If you Macbook screen does appear and you still have powerpoint problems then the issue may be with your presentation as whatever appears on your screen should appear on your projector.

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
and select the Library that you moved.  That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
Your first option didn't work because you imported one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
Your second option didn't work because you simply referenced her library on the old machine.

  • PowerPoint presentations not working with Office Web Apps

         Hi,
I have deployed Lync 2013 and Office Web Apps Server in order to share PowerPoint presentations. All te sharings are working fine (Desktop, Program, Whiteboard, Poll) but PowerPoint presentations.
I have re-installed Office Web Apps Server several times but it doesn't work:
         Discovery URL is OK
Event IDs in Lync Server Event Viewer are OK
I have checked certificate and created it twice and that's not the problem (when tried to use a wrong certificate, the behaviour was different).
         Tried aspnet_regiis but didn't worked.
Both Lync Server and Office Web Apps Server are updated.
         Servers are Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.
I have tested both Lync 2013 and Lync 2013 Basic clients but no one works.
When I share a PowerPoint, I can see it follows the whole way through LyncShare, Lync Server and Office Web Apps Server. PowerPoint files get to Office Web Apps Server (different name but I can move then to other workstation and check
    they are the files shared).
Clients begin showing a "Loading..." but end showing "Network connectivity lost or server too busy" (after 90 seconds more or less).
If I get URL from Lync-UccApi-0:
         https://wacserver.domain/m/Presenter.aspx?a=0&e=true&WopiSrc=https%3A%2F%2Flyncpool.domain%2FDataCollabWeb%2Fwopi%2Ffiles%2F11-1-90C848&access_token=AAMFEECCjUt7489YhSlhQY4GBWcGEIsJ8vG8JQH9w0g_TTTVe3aBEECCjUt7489YhSlhQY4GBWeCApwQgyBHjXVmSaUT70sAAlMNX4oAfTt5Nqgy5sJwqlLneNAxGYYIsFS5edC90AgIDURhdGFDb2xsYWJXZWI&<fs=FULLSCREEN&><rec=RECORDING&><thm=THEME_ID&><ui=UI_LLCC&><rs=DC_LLCC&>
If I put this URL in the browser, it turns black and shows "Loading..." and, after a long while, "PowerPoint Web App...", but it remains in this state (loading) without working.
In the Office Web Apps Server Event Viewer there are some errors related to other services I'm not using, as OneNote, or for Monitoring with the "PositiveDirect" and "NegativeDirect" tokens. Machine also answers it's
Unhealthy, but as I have read, this is not a problem.
In the ULS Logs I just see errors related to these events but logs for PowerPoint work fine. And IIS is answering with "200" (although there are a number of petitions that seem to be repeated:

It seems that something is not working between the clients and Office Web Apps Server. There is not a firewall and machines see each other. Certificate is accepted.
I have tried so many thing but none of them worked.
         Does anybody have an idea?
         Thanks!

         Hi Thamara,
There is a HLB but I thought of that and tested both: with HLB and pointing just a Front End, without HLB. In both cases, results were the same.
I can access the Front End pool web services from the WAC server using the IE.
         I'm watching now this event:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?>
    <HealthReport xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
<HealthMessage>BroadcastServicesWatchdog_Wfe reported status for BroadcastServices_Host in category '3'. Reported status: Contacting Participant.svc failed with an exception: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.</HealthMessage>
    </HealthReport>
Reading some posts, it's a known issue fixable by adding HTTP-Activation feature... in Windows 2012. I have a Windows 2008 and .NET Framework 4.5 is installed. I've tried to add HTTP-Activation feature from .NET Framework 3.5, but a number
of format errors appear. I don't know how I could fix it in Windows 2008.
In addition, as I'm making test for share PPT and they aren't finally showed, this error appears also:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?>
    <HealthReport xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
<HealthMessage>PowerPointViewingServicesWatchdog_App reported status for PPTConversionService in category '0'. Reported status: AppManager: A request appears to be stuck in the queue. [State: ReadyToWork] [Start Time: 12/03/2013 10:35:07] [CorrelationId:

    </HealthReport>
It seems that PPTs are being queued as they aren't actually showed.
Does this give you any clue?
         Thank you very much.
         Kind regards.

  • How can I import an i-tune into a powerpoint presentation?

I am preparing a slide show for my wife's birthday on powerpoint 3.0, and I am a beginner. I want to play a song and show 93 slides. When I try to import the song by a file name, I can get into itunes, and I can select the artist and get to the album folder, but I can rarely get the song title itself to appear, and even when it does, I get a message saying that I have not designated the proper path, and tells me to check the path.
Does anyone out there know how to break through past the artist and album name and load an itune into a powerpoint presentation through the "insert" and "movies and sounds" command features?
I can play the music through the CD player and do the slide show, but I want to put the music into the presentation so that I can put the whole thing into a CD.
    Can anyone help? Thanks

You probably need to link directly to the music not going through iTunes. If the music is from iTunes store you will need to convert to mp3 first then link to the mp3 version.
