Encourage AppleTV to Pre-Download?

After purchasing a season pass for a TV show, is there a way to get Apple TV to pre-download the first show or two so that even if the connection is slow there are no pauses in playback?  And so that after finising one show it immediately starts downloading the next?  My connection seems to be fast enough to simply stream video most of the time, but in watching a 1-hr. show there are often several pauses of a few seconds each.

The Apple TV has 8GB internal flash storage used for caching media files; it certainly can and does store data there.  The question is whether there is a way to prompt it to do so before you start watching a particular show.
Yes, but its not permanent and using AppleTV for other functions easily overwrites that solid state memory - it seems a bit better than it used to be but you may be far better off allowing iTunes to download stuff and then using Home Sharing via Computers icon to playback the content, especially for HD movie rentals which can be 4-8GB or more - itunes will keep them until they expire whereas AppleTV may download and then flush memory if you watch a trailer or something on YouTube.

  • Issue in image pre-download

    Hi.
I tried to  need upgrade firmware of WLC to 7.6.00.To avoid long hour outage, I was using image pre-download firmware upgrade method to all access points. There are 99 AP in total & one site has issues 5 Aps. There are 13 x 3600 APs in this site. Out of 13, 5 x APs are not able to push new firmwareFrom  my troubleshooting, I found that when I start pushing new firmware to AP, Secure tunnel between WLC and AP drops.
Please  guide me to resolve this issue.
    Thanks

  • Pre-Download System Updates to use w/MDT 2012

Is their any way to pre-download these system updates and install them during a deployment using MDT 2012?
Wish to speed up the deployment?
    * Im talking about the Updates not the System Update Software, I already have that installed!
Moderator comment: Subject edited for clarity. Was: Pre-Download System Update 5

I assume you're wanting to automatically install drivers?
Download the driver packs for your models from here: http://support.lenovo.com/en/documents/ht074984
Then add them to your deployment. I'm an SCCM guy, not a MDT guy, but this blog post looks like it may be relevant:

  • What is the difference between the iPhoto that came pre-downloaded on my MacBook and the iPhoto available for download on the App Store?

I have had my MacBook for 5 years and ever since upgrading to the new system which added the App Store to my computer, I have been curious about the difference between the iPhoto that came pre-downloaded when I purchased my computer 5 years ago and the iPhoto available for purchase on the App Store. What makes the iPhoto from the App Store so different that I have to pay $15 for it, when I already have it for free on my computer?

Lots and lots of new features - and since you have upgraded to Mavericks much better operation
For information on what has changed there are many. many reviews on the web as well os a writup on the App store recapping the new features of the latest version vs the previous version
as to your choice - totally personal - do or don't - you choose - it does no involve anyone here in any way

  • Free up LWAPP memory prior to pre-download of upgrade image.

    Hi,
We are looking for a way to automate the freeing up of LWAPP memory space in order to make way for a pre-download of 7.6.110.0 before the final upgrade of the WLC (8500).
There's around 900 APs so doing it manually is undesirable.
Also, a way to report on the APs that are short of space would be very useful too.
Prime Infrastructure is also installed on the network.
    Any ideas appreciated.

802.11n AP and newer have more than enough flash capacity to store two or more IOS (except for 1250).
If you have 802.11 a/b/g, such as 1130 and 1240, there's nothing you can do.

  • If I purchase a movie from AppleTV can I download to iTunes?

If I purchase a movie from AppleTV can I download to iTunes?

Thanks... that was my thinking.  When I go to iTunes on Mac there is no "Purchased" section for Movies... there is one for Music and TV Shows... and in iTunes on iPad there is a section there as well for Purchased Movies... so how can you get to Purchased Movies in iTunes.. only option is to buy... if I press buy will it tell me I already bought it and let me download it?  don't want to get charged twice for the same movie.

  • Pre-Download Software APs - NCS - WLCs - APs

    Hello,
In my environment i have 5 controllers in a central site controlling a lot of Access Points in a lot of places around the city.
In theses places the Accesss Points are working with H-REAP and the link that connect the central site and the branch offices is a 2MB MPLS.
I need to upgrade my controllers, but i have one question, if i put the new software in my controllers creating a New Download Software Task in the NCS and select the option Pre-Download Software APs.
Will the controller try to upgrade all the Access Points associated at once or It will be upgrade one-by-one ?
    Thanks.

    It's not all at once.
The maximum number of  concurrent predownloads is limited to half the number of concurrent  normal image downloads. This limitation allows new access points to join  the controller during image downloading.
If you reach the predownload limit, then the access points that cannot  get an image sleep for a time between 180 to 600 seconds and then  reattempt the predownload.
Once you go to 7.2 code you can have a master AP that gets the upgrade first and then sends the update to the other APs in the same FlexConnect (HREAP) group.

  • How to pre-download satellite maps?

    Hi,
I recently got Nokia Map Loader working, and normal maps downloads just fine. However, I can't find any option to download satellite maps aswell. Is it possible to do so?

There is probably no way to do so. Satellite images (Google Earth) would take up a lot of memory on your phone if this was possible. Frankly, I never heard of this being done. Why would you be needing satellite maps anyway? If the normal maps do not contain full roads of your region then this is another problem.
In my opinion, I don't see any need for pre downloaded satellite maps. Dude, even on PC, this is not possible. I think Google doesn't allow it anyway.

  • Pre-download software to APs with version not on current controller

I am migrating APs from a WiSM running 7.0 to a 5508 that is running 7.4 but I can't find a way to get the 7.4 code pre-downloaded on the APs while they are connected to the WiSM. We're a 24 hour environment so I'm guessing I'll have to migrate one at a time to avoid downtime for users but before planning on this route, which is a pain, I thought I would see if others have found a way to do this.

    Hi,
it's quite easy, I've done this some days ago.
I've followed this guide http://goo.gl/loHK1W but, in short, you have to do this:
    - download the file 7.4 on WiSM like you do when you want to update it's software (from web gui, under Commands > Download File > Code);
    - when done, don't reload the WiSM and issue this command from cli: config boot backup. "This ensures that if a system failure occurs, the controller boots with the last working image of the controller"
    - pre-download the new code on APs using the command: config ap image predownload primary <AP-NAME>. You can verify the progress using the command: show ap image all
    - when done, change the High Availability configuration on that AP (from web gui, under Wireless > Access Point, then click your AP) and set the 5508 as Primary Controller, then Apply and reload the AP.
Obviously, I suggest you to test this on a non-critical AP :)
    Best regards,
    Matteo

  • AppleTV won't download podcasts

    Hi,
I have a first generation AppleTV.
For the last several months I have been unable to download podcasts on it - both audio and video. Also HD movie trailers don't play - this is isn't n issue for me as I don't watch them but I thought it might be connected.
Does anyone know why this might be? I have searched Google for solutions but I can't find any mention of this problem.
    Thank you.

The podcasts were videos and my iPod isn't a video. Mistake on my part.

  • How do I stop firefox from pre-downloading a file during a file download prompt?

I use DownThemAll as my download manager for files generally over 10MB, as my internet connection is generally too slow for firefox to download a file larger then this without firefox "finishing" a download before it's complete, corrupting the file. This never happens with DownThemAll.
For some sites, either there is no download link to right click or it starts automatically, launching the download prompt. Firefox's internal download manager automatically starts downloading the file (not visibly, but in the background) before I can choose to use DownThemAll from the prompt instead.
This wastes bandwidth. Even worse, some hosting sites have randomly generated download gates for each session that expire after disconnection or limit you to a single download in a given time frame. This means that I effectively can't use DownThemAll on certain websites because firefox's own download manager steps in and gets in the way.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • [Solved] How to handle pre-download license? (Creative EULA)

When you go to the X-Fi driver download, it presents you with the Creative EULA that says the following near the top:
YOU HAVE AGREED TO THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT BEFORE DOWNLOADING THE SOFTWARE FROM THE INTERNET.
Then you click "AGREE" at the bottom to initiate the download, which was the main reason I was hesitant to upload my PKGBUILD from this X-Fi thread.  Someone requested that it be added to the AUR, so I ended up submitting it.  I'm just not sure how the situation should be handled (the source is GPL2).
I've currently saved the Creative EULA as a text file and put both 'custom:CEULA' and 'GPL2' in the license array.  Is this sufficient, or would I need to do something like this?
    source=() # remove driver tarball
    makedepends=('wget')
    build() {
    # quick prompt about licensing situation
    # display license
    # ask user to accept/decline
    # if decline, return 1
    # wget source
    # md5 -c source
    # continue as normal

Allan wrote:An EULA to download GPL2 source...  seems strange.
I agree (and I don't quite understand it really), but I ended up submitting it since the source is GPL2.
You can install the EULA to /usr/share/licences/$pkgname and add a post install message saying that the user has to read it first.  E.g. http://repos.archlinux.org/viewvc.cgi/c … ev=CURRENT
Ok, I'll go with the post install warning.  I was just worried about the letter of the law as skymt mentioned, but I'll just keep it this way then.  Thanks.

  • How to setup iDVD for burning pre-downloaded movie, spacewise, quality, etc

I downloaded (legally) old TV shows onto my Mac, then wanted to burn them to a blank DVD for viewing thru my regular DVD player. I opened iDVD, dragging and dropping .avi files onto its start up window. Everything worked fine, iDVD automatically processed/encoded the 350 MB files, with the resulting DVDs playing the shows fine on my consumer DVD. Two questions:
    1. Even though the files were only 350 MB, iDVD would not let me burn more than one file at a time onto a blank 4.7 Gb disc. Even after expanding the file during processing, the resulting new burn project was only 1.86 Gb. With 4.7 on a blank disc, why would iDVD not let me drop at least one more file for inclusion?
    2. iDVD did everything automatically; there were no pop ups asking me about how I wanted it encoded on the disc, as an avi file or consumer-readable DVD, and no indicator of how big it would expand after processing or how much space it would take up. Is that normal, or shouldn't I be given choices, including write-speed/quality/compression/file size choices that might have affected how many 1-hour episodes could fit on a blank DVD?
Thanks for any clarity on this.

.avi is just a container, as .mov is in the Mac world... (for your interest: look in the right column, what can be inside a .mov here)
so, you're lucky, that inside that container was something, iDVD can handle, because all iApps use "dv" as codec for video (as on miniDVtapes, what iM is intended to be)
dv is a codec, which has 13Gb per hour
a dvd has mp2 as codec, which fits up to two hours on a 4.4GB dvd-r
    (iDVD does the conversion..)
all iApps are not "all purpose" apps; the iLife suite is mainly for your music, web (since iLife6) and your homebrewn videos (miniDV/tape/DVD)..
if you want more options/choices, you need other tools & apps (=> $$$$); the iLife suite is for simplicity & convenience - miniDVtape, audioCD, edit, create, burn - boom!done... this is, from my p.o.v., the main difference between PC and Mac apps: PC apps overwhelm (=let him alone) with zillions of options, Mac stands for simplicity (=what PC users read as "prescribtion")
    concerning file sizes:
the process of converting & generating mpegs is very tricky/elaborated.. even costly pro tools can just estimate the final project's size, because file size depends e.g. of content, amount fo movement, richness of detail, etc
