Encrypt the Removable drive through MBAM

Hello every one
I want to encrypt the removable drive in my MBAM environment so that no one can edit the content of these encrypted Removable drive.
I applied various option present in the group policy editor but did not get the result .
Any body please help me .
Thanks
sunny

You cannot do this with MBAM. Following are the probable scenarios you can do with MBAM for removable drives:-
1) Deny Write Access : If the removable will not be encrypted, the user will not get write access on removable drive. The user can only read the contents but cannot do modifications. In any case you have to encrypt the drive to get thewrite access.
2) You can define password for the removable drives. So if anyone does not have the password cannot access the content of the removable drive. But if the user has the password, it can access the content.
So there is not any mechanism that after encryption you can deny write access to the removable drives with MBAM.

  • Accessing the removable drive on the micro ph

I need help! The screen on my micro photo is dead, and i desperately need to get stuff off the removable disk drive. Is there any way to access it from my computer without going threw the internal menu's of the player.

no....unfortunately you have to go through the menu in the player to start removable disk mode.
if you didn't change the menu layout, you can try scrolling all the way down and then scroll one bar up and tap the scroll pad to enter the Extra menu. Once in, scroll all the way down again and tap the scroll pad. You should be able to enter the removable disk now.

  • Encrypt the hard drive on the iphone?

I am lobbying my organization to support the iphone for mobile users. Justifiably, there is concern about security. Most questions are answered by all of the FAQ available...there is one question I still need an answer to. "Can the hard drive on the iphone be encrypted? This is how we protect our laptops.
    Thanks in advance.

I think the concern is that someone can crack open an iphone, pull out the flash storage, hook it up to a reader of sorts, and just read all the data...
I think the answer is, don't store confidential data on the phone.
You can use the iphone to VPN into your corporate network and access the confidential data via a web app... Then you would need to clear out the cache when done...
I would think that email would be the biggest concern... that is why remote wipe exists.. don't lose your phone.. if you can't find it, know how to get it wiped ASAP.
or... don't access your sensitive email on your phone...

  • Hi, I'm trying to exported edited photos to an external hard drive... when i try to add the hard drive through lightroom it says selected device is not writable.... well i manage to write on it with everything else in the world! please help.

I can export the photos to the desk top but when i then select the folder and drag to drop on the hard drive it does not give me the option. If i go to copy folders out of the hard drive to the desktop i can do so no problem (its not a problem with the hard drive to my knowledge).
Please help its driving me away from both lightroom which i really like and from Macs in general!!!!

I found that it was due to the format of the drive, NTFS not being compatible with Mac. I am not converting the drive to a FAT format.

  • How to remove the "removable drive" feature on a Zen V P

I really love the Zen V Plus and most of the features. It is one of the best small mp3 players that I have had. One that that dri'ves me nuts though is you are forced to use it in MTP mode and you can only use it on a windows machine. It would be nice if you could use it in UMS mode so it would show up as a normal dri've. I also have a SanDisk e200 and it allows you to switch back and forth between MTP and UMS. It would be nice to see creative make a new firmware release where you could do this.
Anyway I made a 52 removable partition on the Zen V Plus to transfer some data around but I can not figure out how to delete it so I can use all the space for music again. Anyway to do this without wiping everything out and resetting it's

I'm pretty sure if you select the menu button it will bring up a menu with the different sizes of removable space you can have. The last option should be "Disable Removable Dri've" Select that.

  • HT201250 I've just used an external drive to back up my Mac with Time Machine. I have Lion, but didn't click and check the "Encrypt Backup Disc". What should I do? Can I delete the external drive and start again, or can I encrypt later?

I've just used an external drive to back up my Mac with Time Machine. I have Lion, but didn't click and check the "Encrypt Backup Disc". What should I do? Can I delete the external drive and start again, or can I encrypt later?

I guess if stolen or lost it would protect my "stuff", and if I'm travelling would protect my privacy.
You must understand the purpose and implications of encryption before deciding whether to use it.
Encryption locks your data with a password. If you forget that password, the data is lost beyond any chance of recovery. Neither Apple nor anyone else will be able to help you recover that data if you don't know the password.
By the same token, the password must be strong enough to provide the security you want. For example, if you're the potential target of industrial espionage by a government or large corporation, you need the strongest possible password. To create and manage such a password safely is a task in itself, not to be undertaken lightly.
If you're only concerned about casual snooping by someone with no special skill, a weak, easily-remembered password is appropriate.
But regardless of the strength of the password, if you lose it, the data is gone forever.
Another point to remember is that if you encrypt your data on one storage device, you must also encrypt it on all other storage devices that would be accessible to the same attacker. Otherwise the data isn't protected. For example, if you keep your computer and your backup drive in the same room, and the internal drive of the computer is not encrypted, then there's no point in encrypting the backup drive.

  • BitLocker: fixed vs removable drives

    Hello!
Can anybody tell me why BitLocker "thinks" that my drive K: (SSD4) is a "fixed" drive while the other two - E: and F: (SSD2 and SSD3) - are the removable ones? I have only one removable drive - G:, drives E: and F: must be in the "Fixed
drives" section, not in the "Removable drives":
    Thank you in advance,
    Michael

BitLocker encryption through Storage Spaces has been well implemented and is less error prone from my experimentation. Given that when you create a Storage Space you define VHDs for the individual drives and then utilize the virtual drive system for access
to the Storage Spaces drive; this method is more integrated with the Windows drive stack and thus less prone to having issues with drivers and other items that might cause issues with the BitLocker encryption software as, by my description, the virtual controller
is less feature rich than the hardware tends to be. I would give it a shot in a lab environment and see if it would suffice your needs in this area (cause I did this to encrypt iSCSI drives so it was a data travel path through the target, to the virtual disk
for iSCSI to the BitLocker software into the virtual drive for the Storage Space and there was little degradation for throughput).

  • BT Cloud - using a removable drive

    Hi All,
I want to backup about 30gb of photos to the cloud from a removable drive.. I did this last night and after about 4 hours the job was done.
I looked at my cloud today and pretty much the whole lot now sits in trash  In the absence of a restore all button I am forced to go through the entire list ticking nearly 8,000 boxes then pressing restore.
Is this in vain, will they all simply delete again as the volume "k" on my machine comes and goes depending on whether the removable drive is with me or not. I would hate to think that as the drive is no longer attached, the cloud would take it upon itself to remove the whole backup.
If it isnt the cloud that has moved all to the trash, I will have to question the wife/ kids to see who is playing silly b**gers!!
Any tips / tricks on how I can optimise the setup for this senario. essentially this device is a non-dynamic backup. I want the files to remain in the cloud, but there is no need to check for new files in those directories.
    Many thanks

Quite often BT Cloud will not back up to removable or network drives at all; so you were (sort of) lucky.
One very incovenient workaround is to back up from the web interface.  That doesn't keep the directory structure unless you are careful to recreate it manually, and limits you to 200 files at a time.  But it doesn't implicitly remove the files once they are there.
Another is to install BT Cloud on a 'spare' machine if you have one.  Connect the drive to that machine and do the backup.  Either unistall BT Cloud, or remove BT Cloud from automatically starting.  Make sure you never start it on that machine unless the drive is attached (and with the same drive letter).
Another is to do the backup and immediately uninstall BT Cloud.  Then reinstall BT Cloud.  It is too stupid to realize you are on the same machine, so you will have to give a new device name.  The old device name will stay in the BT Cloud with all the files still present.
You get a free Flickr Pro subscription if you sign up with your BT email address.  The is a very underadvertised feature.  Bulk backup to Flickr is not all that convenient either, but that might do what you need.
And finally, use a proper backup solution that actually works.  Though that is a bit galling after thinking you have been offered a free 50GB backup solution by BT.

  • Can I use an external hard drive on my iMac if the internal drive is dead?

The internal 1 TB hard drive on my 2009 w/Mavericks hard drive is failing.  I clone that drive to an external hard drive as a backup and often boot from the external when I want to do some maintence (Disk Warrior) on the iMac drive.  So far Disk Warrior has saved that iMac drive but eventually it won't be able to do so.
I looked into buying a new internal drive and replacing the old iMac drive but the procedures are not as easy as I hoped.  So my question becomes: if/when that internal drive goes belly up will I be able to set the external drive as the main drive through System Preferences and automatically boot into it each time I need the machine?  Or would I have to boot into a USB Maintenance drive then reset to reboot into the external drive each time I wanted to use the machine.
Of course I'll be looking into buying a new iMac but until then I want to use this older machine as much as possible.
    Thanks.

Yes, you’ll be able to do that.

  • How to upgrade the hard drive

    I have a MacBook Pro 15" OS X Ver 10.6.8 and a Hard Disk:
    Hitachi HTS545032B9SA02:
      Capacity: 320.07 GB (320,072,933,376 bytes)
      Model: Hitachi HTS545032B9SA02
I want to upgrade from the 320GB drive to at least 500GB
I also have a number of applications with updates on my existing MacBook Pro.
On a WIndows Machine, all I have to do is run Norton Ghost to image the drive
and all the partitions to an external drive (the new drive) through the USB port and
then plug in the new drive and I'm done.
Is there anything simple, like a partition copying program, or a Norton Ghost
equivalent that I can run, put an entire image of my MacBook pro on that
drive, and have the drive partition resized automatically so I can use the extra
180 GB that I would get by upgrading from 320 to 500 GB ??
    Thanks
    Jeff

    Hi Allan,
Can you add a little more info. Where do I find CCC or SuperDuper, and which one will work the best?
I would like to clone the drive, and then be able to install it, and have it boot with new partition sizes.
That is, will either of these programs fixup the partition sizes so the target drive for the clone is a
bootable HD that can work when the original drive is replaced with the clone ??
    Thanks

  • Looking for ideas regarding encrypting a network drive used by 2 OSX Macs

I was thinking of getting a networked HD (connected by Ethernet to my wireless router) to enable my two Macs (wife's tower running 10.3.9, my Powerbook running 10.5.8) to store each of our iPhotos, iMovies, iTunes, etc. libraries on one network drive (rather than on each Mac's HD.)
Since the Powerbook is so portable, and equipped with Airport, it would be the logical CPU to position next to our living room HDTV - using one Audio cable and one DVD-to-HDMI cable. Then, either user could log into their own account on the Powerbook and wirelessly access the networked HD to display their personal iPhoto, iMovie, etc. library contents over the TV.
But I wonder... if wife normally maintains her iPhoto library by logging into her G4 tower, maybe OSX's permissions will thwart her from accessing it when she logged into her account on the Powerbook because she would appear to be a different user.
I also wonder if It would also be wise...or even possible... to encrypt the networked drive, somehow, to add another level of security to the files, since anyone who managed to hack thru my Router might potentially be able to read all the files on the HD. The router companies lead us to believe WEP and other protocols are totally secure, but I've also read that these can be hacked by some individuals. This being a 1TB networked drive, I expect some other data might get backed up to it, too, making the security issue a bit more of a concern.
The security and encryption issues in this scenario are muddy to me....but it seems like this is could be a great way to securely consolidate both users' iPhotos and other media on one network drive, accessible from either computer with appropriate logins....or would there be some show-stopping 'gotcha'? What do you think?

instead of having to boot up both Macs, initiate file sharing, fumble to get things mounted, etc. each time ...
You can leave the desktop Mac to time out and go to sleep. and set "wake on Ethernet Administrator Access", which should allow you to wake it up and get files.
the Powerbook uses OSX 5.8 while the G4 tower is on Panther.
That does not present a problem or File Sharing, which can be made compatible across a wide \[but not infinite] range or Mac Operating Systems.
So they aren't using the same version of iPhoto...the G4 uses iPhoto6, and the Powerbook uses iPhoto 9.
Our household runs a mix of 10.4 and 10.5, having just upgraded the faster Macs to 10.5. We have our entire iPhoto library in iPhoto 8 \[iLife '08], which supports the range of Mac OS we are using, and many features including ordering prints (but not face-recognition). If you want to combine your libraries, perhaps you could drop back to iPhoto 8 and re-import the iPhoto9 stuff, and upgrade to iPhoto 8 on the G4/400. \[You CAN run 10.5.8 on a G4/400, but you have to use some hacks to install it, and it may be a little sluggish at times. Then you could simply upgrade to iPhoto 9 all around.
Encrypting an entire drive makes me really queasy. I have spent too many hours digging out after drive failures and software errors have clobbered a drive, and no matter how hard you work at recovery, at least a few files always get lost. When you encrypt an entire drive, the Operating System sees the whole drive as one big file -- and errors in that file may make that file (your entire drive) unrecoverable. A friend of mine had just such a disaster at home when a drive space enhancer called "Stacker" blew up on him.
If you put Quicken or other financial data on your home Server or shared drive, I would still not worry about it, but if it keeps you up at night, you could encrypt just the financial data file (and keep it backed up religiously).
Because I do support for schools, I have also implemented Mac OS X Server at home. With a school-like setup, ALL users files are on the Server, and any user can use any Mac, their files just "appear" when they log in. File Sharing underlies everything, but it is all done without thinking about it -- the Server just does it. But Server is a US$500 package (down from $1000) that requires a dedicated Mac and a lot of fiddling, so I do not recommend it for your situation.
One thing I do recommend, if you are going to store files on your network, is to try to upgrade/add an Ethernet Switch at Gigabit Ethernet speed, if possible. The Router does not need that speed, but Mac-to-Mac (if you go the File Sharing route) or Mac-to-Network_Drive (if you go that route) will be much more responsive. If your G4/400 does not have Gigabit Ethernet, you can get a PCI slot card for it. Or maybe upgrade it to a newer old Mac that can run 10.5.8 without hacks.

  • Is it possible to FileVault the flash drive?

Is there a way to encrypt the flash drive so if I lose it, the content will be protected?

    Hi,
    Yes!
    Navigate here...
Hard Drive > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utilities > New Image.
There is an encryption option there - Just make sure you remember the password!

  • Accessing External Hard Drive through Airport Extreme

I have recently purchased a My Book 500 GB hardrive. I was hoping to utilize the airport feature of accessing the hard drive through both the MacBook Pro and Macbok in my home by hoking it up to the airport express by USB. First I connected the hardrive to both computers and installed it. Next I hooked it up to the airport extreme. Neither the MacBook Pro or the Macbook will recognize the hard drive unless it is directly hooked up to the computers themselves. Any ideas on how to be able to access the My Book hard drive wirelessly??

in airport utility, click on manual setup, click on disks, click on file sharing, on airport disks guests access choose read and write, click update. wait for base station to restart and then you should be good once you go to it under shared in the finder window (left side) and click connect as.. put in pword and there ya go.
at least this what worked for me. i just had this same problem a few minutes ago.

  • Wi-Fi driver through USB host interface

    Hi,
We are trying to develop Wifi driver for Windows CE OS connected to Freescale based i.Mx6 device through USB host interface.
I am planning to communicate with the Wifi driver through AT commands and so I want to make USB host driver detected
as virtual com port (USB serial client driver). What registry settings I need to make to do so.
    Thanks in advance,
    Seeth

I'm a bit confused. You'll want NDIS to talk to the device, right? Don't you need to make it appear to USB as a network driver, then? The network driver can, of course, use whatever it wants to talk to the hardware (at the USB level), but I don't see how
creating a COM4: device gets you anywhere.
You're going to install two drivers, one for the hardware making it look like a serial port, and a second for NDIS interface? You're then going to open the serial port in your NDIS driver (you'll have to detect which of several ports is the right one), and
implement the NDIS interface by making ReadFile, WriteFile, and DeviceIoControl calls to the serial port driver? Won't that be problematic for network adapter interrupt handling (among other things)?
