Encrypt with password using an EXCEL macro

I created a PDF using a macro in EXCEL 2010. Can I encrypt the PDF using the macro? I want to encrypt all document contents and restriction permissions to high resolution printing.

It is looking for a 'permissions password'. I did not provide one. My bad here it seems.

It's impossible not to enter a password when applying protection using that menu item. Acrobat wouldn't make one up and will not accept a blank entry on the dialog box.
Are you sure you didn't apply a previously-created Security Policy, in which you chose to store the password inside the policy?

Hi Daphne,
Crystal can only use the top level password. If you have a system password I don't believe that will work, never has.

Now my password does not work. tried rersetting, no go. Terminal does not have rest password on.

retrieves the spool number and converts it to a pdf file
(using function module '....abapspool...'). No parameter to put password.
I was able to do the above. The problem is how to put password on
the pdf file.
Once the user receives the email (say from hotmail or outlook) with pdf attachment, clicks on the pdf, it will as ask for an attachment.
sap version 4.7.
Questions:
- how to code in ABAP to include the pdf with password in an email
received from hotmail or outlook?
- any function modules or classes that can do the pdf password?
- do we need to install another technology or add-on application or
???? to do it? If yes, do we code in abap?

I want zip a file with a password using an apple script. The problem is that I'll run the command
zip -ejr outfile infile
but how do I submit the password to the terminal?
I don't want the terminal to be visible during the process so I'm using this command:
tell application "Terminal" to do shell script sh
where sh is the command I want to run.

Well, it should, as I don't have an in.txt. Handing it an existing file, I get this:

Encrypt with password requires confirmation of permissions password. It used to only have to be typed in once.

I am support for a user who has inherited an already configured Acrobat X. This user when applying password protection now gets a second popup asking for "Confirmation of Permissions Password". This apparently is new and only started happening this week. Her complaint is that it doubles the amount of time to protect ECN Documets.

You are always asked to confirm your password a second time. This is to confirm you typed the password you meant to. Otherwise you could encrypt a file without having the correct password.

Encrypt / Decrypt password

I'm new in Java and I need to create a function to encrypt / decrypt passwords using the Blowfish algorithm. I know how to create a key, but I don't know how to recover it to decrypt the password.
Another question, Is it possible to use public/private keys in this case???.

This is typically done either one of two ways:
1) PBE based encryption. This uses a password or pass phrase to derive
a key to use with a symmetric algorithm.
2) Asymmetric using something like RSA. Typically RSA is used to wrap
the actual symmetric key used to do the encryption but for very short
plaintext it can be used directly on the plaintext. Passwords are a
good example of short plaintext.
Obviously symmetric encryption is a great deal faster than asymmetric
encryption. So if your plaintext was large you would want to use
symmetric. Also Asymmetric encryption is length dependant. AKA if your
public key's modulus is 1024 bits then you could encrypt any plaintext
that was 121 bytes or shorter.
PBE takes a salt (a random byte array) and an iteration count and
hashes a passphrase with the salt iteration number of times to generate
a key that can be reproduced over and over again and used with a
symmetric algorithm. The issue here is that your salt/ic either need
to be hard coded and reused or the values for any single encryption
need to be saved along with the ciphertext. Using the same ic/salt for
a large number of plaintext to ciphertext operations can lead to a
weakening of the pass phrase (aka the key) and aids a cryptoanalyst in
breaking the code. Although it is still difficult it becomes easier
with each successive encryption.
Its upto you which route you take but you should note that private keys
used in asymmetric encryption use PBE to keep them private anyway so in
a sense if you use asymmetric encryption you are really using both
asymmetric encryption and PBE...

Essbase Excel Macro's and Mxl client

Hello Folks,
We are working on 11.1.2.1 having Essbase, Planning, HFM and financial Reports & ODI. We have built the environment newly. I have a scenario where we need to run the ODI batches and run the excel macros to load some of the data. Our batches run from ODI. We have distributed environment for Hyperion servers, totally 3 servers.
Components in distributed environment:
1. Shared services, Planning, HFM client, BI Reporting tools, EAS client, Maxl,ODI(server1)
2. Essbase Server,Maxl(server2)
3. HFM(Server3)
MS office & ODI installed on Server1.
We need to run the batches using ODI & Excel Macro's to load the data.
I have setup the maxl client in Server1 for the ODI batch to use for loading data into essbase but my problem is i want to use excel macro's also same time. Is there any possibility or workaround to use both at a time on same servers?

What is the error you are getting while running it from ODI? I'm assuming that you are getting some error when you said only one is working.
When you install EXCEL Add-in it is changing your path and abrorpath variables and that could be the reason why maxl is not working. If ODI is using a bat file why don't you set temporary variable and try.
in you bat file add these lines (before the maxl call, i would ad them to the start)
SET ARBORPATH=C:\Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1\products\Essbase\EssbaseClient
SET PATH=%ARBORPATH%\bin;%PATH%

How to create PDF from Excel with Password Protection Using Visual Studio & Visual Basic

Could someone provide some VB code sample(s) to create a PDF file with password protection (Security Method - Password Security - Restrict Editing & Printing)?
I create a bunch of reports every week using an Excel 2010 addin that subsequently must be printed to PDF. I then have to manually edit the properties of each document in order to apply the printing restriction.
I'm using Acrobat X.
I've downloaded the SDK but have no idea which dll's to use or where to begin.

On the File menu, click Save As.
On the Tools menu, click General Options.
Do either or both of the following:
If you want users to enter a password before they can view the workbook, type a password in the Password to open box, and then click OK.
If you want users to enter a password before they can save changes to the workbook, type a password in the Password to modify box.
NOTE   Unlike passwords you specify in the Password to open box, passwords you specify in the Password to modify box are not encrypted. These passwords are only meant to give specific users permission to modify workbook data. For optimal password security, it's best to assign both passwords. An encrypted password to access the workbook, and one to provide specific users with permission to modify its content. IMPORTANT   Use strong passwords that combine uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Weak passwords don't mix these elements. Strong password: Y6dh!et5. Weak password: House27. Use a strong password that you can remember so that you don't have to write it down.
If you want to use a different encryption type, click Advanced, click the type you want in the Choose an encryption type list, and then click OK.
If needed, specify the number of characters you want in the Choose a key length box.
NOTE   Document property encryption is enabled by default for most encryption types and providers. It prevents unauthorized users from viewing summary and custom file properties (such as the author or any custom file information) in theProperties dialog box. When users right-click the password-protected file, and then click Properties, information won't be available on the Summary tab and Customtab. Authorized users, however, can open the file and view all file properties (Filemenu, Properties command). To disable document property encryption, clear theEncrypt document properties check box.
Click OK.
When prompted, retype your passwords to confirm them.
Click Save.
If prompted, click Yes to replace the existing workbook.
NOTE   You can also secure a workbook with a password on the Security tab of the Options dialog box (Tools menu, Options command).

How can I retrieve the password hint of an external drive encrypted with FileVault 2?

I'm running on 10.7.3, I have an external HDD that is fully encrypted with FileVault 2. When encrypting an external drive, FileVault 2 doesn't provide a recovery key, but it gives you the opportunity to give a hint at the time you enter the password. My question is: how can I get this hint?
I'm asking because I can't mount the drive anymore. I keep getting prompted to enter the password, and although I believe I'm sure what the password is, it keeps getting refused. The weird thing is that I have never been asked this password because the drive has always been automatically mounted after reboots, I guess because the password was in my Keychain. I have no idea why it no longer auto-mounts and none of the passwords I tried worked.
In Disk Utility, when I tried to "verify" the locked volume, Disk Utility logs an error in system.log with no other user visible action. I filed a bug with Apple about this (#11286871) but I'm still waiting to hear back from them. The error logged is:

Even if you succeed with the difficult instructions to do this, if you are running Mavericks (10.9.x) on your Mac, count on it to start over with a whole new backup of your Mac, so you will have two separate backup files for the Mac on the Time Capsule.
Realistically, few of us ever need to go back months or years to retrieve a file from Time Machine. My recommendation would be to keep the external hard drive around for a few months until you have a good backup history established for the Mac....and then delete the backups from the drive and use it as a spare hard drive.

Sorry no, if you don't knnow the encrypted password, then you can't use that backjup.
