Encrypting slides on dvd slide show

Hi - I'm making dvd slide shows of my photography and need to know how to make it so people can't pull the photos off the dvd.. also how to protect the dvd from being copies. Does anyone know how to do this?

ehm, you're posting in iDVD; iDVD is an encoding, authoring and burning app to create videoDVD, meaning: video, displaying on TV =>interlaced, 640x480, wacky NTSC (apologizes to US citizens...)…

a videoDVD from a photographer as "the map", a portfolio... sure! impressive music, sleezy transitions to some acid-jazz… all that understood & often seen... but SELLING in means of transport this way?

using tools as Toast allows to you create a video and a data partition on one single dvd-r; you could even "password protect" such a data section (not with Toast, other workflow...)...
soooo.....
stamp a FAT and glowing "this photo belongs to spectorphotography" ... ok, somethin' shorter... and forget the glow.... on every pic in SLIDESHOW; but, please, sell a HiRes version to your clients, ... besides: how shall they "grab" the pics from videoDVD? as screen-grabs??
make watermarks
create a data partition...

Blank slides in DVD slide show

When I burn a slide show, as I have twice, blank slids appear randomly in the show. If I reverse the show they don't appear but in the forward moce they just pop-up in a random fashon.

I too have been plagued by the blank slides in my IDVD project. I have deleted my project and started from scratch - didn't work. I have also experienced general bad performance where the applications have unexpected locked up on me.
I have been an avid MAC/ILife lover for more than 3 years, but ILife 08 has been nothing short of frustrating. I am online today trying to research some of my issues. I'm finished with 08 until Apple cleans it up. Its time to unistall it and go back to 06 so that I can complete some of my projects.

Sound cuts out on DVD slide shows with music

I have tried 5 DVD slide show programs with the same result. Hewlett Packard says my hardware is OK but I have a compatability problem. My wife has the same compaint. Can you help with my computer?

Before doing anything with the computer in question, backup all the music files in question to either a flash drive or CD. Try that music, etc on an independent computer, either friend's or at a library to see if the files are good and do not exhibit the problems that are being observed on the computer in question. If they play OK elsewhere, then try the "Recovery Partition Manager" to return the computer to "like from the factory". With all the software experimenting, it could be a problem between the different software installs. Once the computer is "like from the factory" again, then try to play the music that was backed up on the "factory fresh" installation without any other software installs. Report back on how that goes.

DVD Slide shows only auto-cycle 100 slides; then aborts. What's the fix??

I burned 2800 jpeg Photos from my IMac onto a DVD using iDVD and set it up for auto-play, so that the 2800-frame slide show would autostart running and advance to a new photo every 3 seconds as soon as loaded into the DVD player in our TV room.
On my Panasonic DVD player, however, I can only view the first 100 or so slides automatically before the show aborts and the player defaults back to its home screen as if it had completed the slide show.
Why will my DVD player only show the first 100 of 2800 slides on the DVD before quitting ? Is it a limitation of the DVD player hardware or software or have I misconfigured iDVD ?
If I want to view all 2800 slides on the DVD, I can do so only by holding down the forward and reverse buttons on the player's remote control to jump forward or backward to the next or previous slides. Only then will it display beyond the first 100 or so slides and run to the end. In auto advance mode, it chokes after the first 100 frames and quits on me.
As long as I manually advance to the next frame, I am fine...but the player-DVD combination will only auto-advance the first 100 before the player hardware/software crashes.
Any ideas how to fix ????

Thanks. This is very clumsy to work around but maybe the just released Toast 8 has a workaround that iDvd does not. Trick is I guess to get 28 tracks onto a single DVD - each with 99 (slides) chapters. Is this doable ??
Surely there is a simple way to copy 2800 files - maybe just a simple file copy, onto a blank CD or DVD and have a CD/DVD player`read them and auto advance.
This is very frustrating because these sophisticated software programs are good at doing fancy things with movies but can't produce a simple slide show with more than 99 frames.

The basic problem is iDVD treats slides in a
slideshow as chapters and a DVD track is limited to
99 chapters per track. Prior to iDVD 6, slideshows
were limited to 99 slides. iDVD 6 added a 'fix' to
allow several such slideshow tracks to be linked
together. HOWEVER, not all DVD players (as you have
found) want to recognize the linking and will quit
(or drop the audio) after the 99th slide.
Any ideas how to fix ????
There is nothing you can do in iDVD to change this.
There are some DVD players that will play through
all he images - you can take you DVD to a 'big-box'
store with a lot of DVD players on display and see
if you can find a player that will play all the
slides.
OR
You can create your slideshow as a movie in iMove,
although your 2800 slides at 3 seconds per slide
would create a movie that is 140 minutes long, and
this exceeds the 120 minute limit of what can be put
on a single layer DVD with iDVD.

I used it because other facets of my work in graphics require conversion, not just FCP, so I am used to popping it open quickly using it on the fly, in the field when shooting. I back up, then convert typically on my laptop while it sits on the seat of my pickup while I am photographing the next portion of the training. I do have the files backed up (in ordered structure as shot and preserved on the cards) both on my laptop, also mirrored in the RAID and once again on a second external firewire LaCie and make sure that every little file is in there as it should be. Thanks for the info. on that though, appreciate it. Will probably switch to using FCP to that level of Log and Capture in the future because it seems more basic. I am not sure using L&C would make any difference on the problem I seem to be having here. I will create a small sample file and give it a try for future reference. Again, thank you.
Up until this week the Quicktime conversions I have been creating and composing from have been compressed in H.264 (720 X 480 to fit our LMS stage), and have been working well without a hitch. And 8 of the 11 of these sequences are still exported to a true 16:9 without a hitch. They are sharp, bright and the color is great. The three orphans are also sharp with good color, however squished from side to side. It simply makes no sense that data that has been saved identically, edited identically and exported with identical settings would change in mid-stream like that.

I would suggest that you post this to the Adobe Encore>Menus & Buttons forum. What you want to do, if I read correctly, is pretty simple. There will probalby be links available to step you though it. I'll look for this there, and start gathering some links.

How can one restore a slide to a slide show if one accidentally deletes it?

Did I mention I love Time Machine? I had potentially many hours of slide show tweaking that was to be lost because I couldn't figure how to put a slide back into the show that I accidentally deleted from it. So I opened Time Machine and restored my entire iPhoto Library from my latest backup. Worked like a charm, so I have discovered one solution. Is there another?

Use Old Toad's automator script to back up the the library6.iPhoto database and project description file so you have a copy of it to restore

Besweet, I'm having the very same problem with 60GB colour which was bought new and worked for 6 months before suddenly just not being recognised by PC. I hadn't changed anything at all.
I've followed all troubleshooting advice and reinstalled and updated iTunes and iPod updater software but all troubleshooting routes seem to hit the dead end of either the need to access the iPod via the PC (which isn't possible as it's not showing up at all) or the iPod in disc mode stuck at "ok to disconnect".
It's still under 1yr warranty so will have to take to a dealer.
I'm sorry that's not much help for you but at least you know it's not a unique problem.

Master Slide issue - drag and drop alt slide over theme slide

Keynote on my MacPro: Where before on the previous version I could in Master Slides drag and drop an alternative look over a theme slide to change that slide only and no affecting the entire presentation which was most useful, now that seems no longer an option unless there's something I can't find to do that. When viewing Master Slides now you cannot see the presentation you're working on. Previously I would set up several slides with different looks and where needed drop that look over a slide and it would override the theme slide without all slides being affected. Qny thought guys? Although I have been answering quite a lot of questions about Drag&Drop functionality (not a widget), you are the first to mention such problems. Personally I never had problems, only when not respecting the design of the interaction or doing something stupid. If you are the only user to have such experience (at least for what I hear in these forums and on social media), I don't see why an upgrade should be expected? Did you log the problem? Are you sure that the project is not corrupted?
The jigsaw learning interaction is pretty simple, also limited, don't know what are your problems there?
Are you sure that all objects used in the D&D (drag sources and drop targets) are visible in output. It is a bit confusing in CP8 because the eye icon is used both for visible in output for objects in Properties panel, and for showing the links in D&D in the D&D panel. Can you see the links? Did you avoid overlapping of objects? Did you not rename an object after creating the D&D interaction, because that will break the link from/to that object? Another easy way to fix this.
What I've noticed is that upon upgrading your projects and events to work with iMovie 10, initially it will work... Until you quit iMovie and reopen it again. Any events with hashtags will show up without the star next to the iMovie event. SO, if you happen to read this, after upgrading to iMovie 10 from its predecessor, immediately change the event name to NOT include a hashtag/pound symbol.
Otherwise, if it's too late, you can either do the above or this...
Hold down option and click on iMovie. This will prompt you Locate, Create a New Library, Cancel this window, or Choose a different library. What you want to do is create a new library, call it whatever you want to, this will only be temporary. After the program opens, it should be a blank Library. Then go to File > Open Library > iMovie Library (your original library) and proceed to change the name of your events. Quit the program. Go into your Movies folder in Finder, delete the library you temporarily created, and your back in business.

Placeholders on questions slides in Master Slide view or/and copying placeholders

I have been building soem changes into our template and I noticed that you cannot add Placeholder objects on the Question slides, but also, when puting placeholders on other master slides, you canot copy and paste them from master slide to master slide...?
Do others find this and is it a bug or by design?

Captivate offers some system variables that you can use. For example, if you click File > Project Info, you get the screen below:
In that case, I typed Goof Ball into the Project Name field.
This means that what I typed into that field is now available to me in that system variable. So if I add a Caption I can insert the variable as shown:

right click the shape and select Add Link
make sure you select a specific slide number (don't select first previous or next)

DVDs not showing up correctly on desktop

I have a friend who is having this problem and I tried to help last night:
DVDs that are authored in DVD Studio Pro or iDVD will show up on the desktop as DVDs with the round DVD icon w/DVD logo on the icon. DVDs that are recorded on a set top Sony DVD recorder show up as a folder with a red minus sign on the bottom.
We both have the same kind of computers, same version system software, etc.
What we're trying to do with the DVD is open it up in MPEG Streamclip, so we can extract the M2V and AC3 files off and re-author with custom menus.
On my computer this morning, the recorded DVD showed up as a folder with a minus sign, but MPEG Streamclip was able to recognize that it was a disc in the first place, whereas the friend's computer - MPEG Streamclip did not recognize that there was a disc there.
The discs do actually mount on the computers and are playable in Apple's DVD Player in both cases. In MPEG Streamclip I have been going to "Open DVD" and on my computer the DVD shows up in that left pane with all the hard drives, networked drives, flash drives, etc., so I'm able to select it. But on the friend's computer, it does not show up in that left pane where it can be selected. So I can't get to the DVD's directory in the first place.
I tried everything I knew how, and researched a bit online as well, and I think I learned that the folder with the minus sign in general is related to permissions. I also saw online that this may be a Sony DVD recorder thing with their navigation structure.
However, we had a disc on the friend's computer that did work a few weeks ago in MPEG Streamclip, but doesn't now. So I think there must have been some setting that was changed. Roxio Toast may have been installed after this first DVD was readable, but I didn't see anything in Toast's preferences that would seem to affect this.
I'd like to try a disc that was recorded on my Panasonic DVD recorder on the friend's computer next time I get out that way.
Any thoughts?

Hmmm...that's interesting with the Sidebar preference...I'll have to check that on the other computer whenever I get out there next. I'll try disabling it on mine to see if it does the same thing.
