Encryption in MIDP
Hi all,
Anybody is having a simple code to encrypt the message using J2ME or bouncycastle? please immediately post it

Hi all,
I have an e-mail application on Palm (a MIDlet suite) that requires the user to enter his/her user name and password. I want to be able to encrypt this info before sending it from the client (Palm) to the server using an Http connection, then decrypt this data on the server side. Is there a way to encrypt using MIDP/CLDC utilities? Any suggestion?
Thanks much!
omar...[gggomes],
You can't use the JavaMail APIs with CLDC/MIDP APIs, it is not supported.
What you can do is to have some webserver with J2SE/JavaMail installed and use serlvets/JSP to process the reading/sending of e-mail. Then from the MIDlet, make HTTP connections to this webserver to make GET/POST requests and parse those e-mail messages in HTML format to the MIDlet. Note that the J2ME device screen is limited hence care must be taken to ensure that the mail messages are displayed correctly on such constraint screens.

I can't decrypt a text encrypted(useing RSA) with publickey on mobile
hi all, I got some problem with my code,
when I wanna use the JSR177 of J2ME to do something about Decryption
here is some of my code as following:
KeyFactory kf = KeyFactory.getInstance("RSA");
byte[] publickeyEncode
x509EncodedKeySpec keyspec = new X509EncodedKeySpec(publickeyEncode)
PublicKey pubkey = kf.generatePublic(Keyspec) as using that, we can renew our publickey which is from the server.
but there are Exception when I use the publickey to do decryption.
java.security.InvalidKeyException
at com.sun.satsa.crypto.RSACipher.init(+31)
at javax.crypto.Cipher.init(+30)
at javax.crypto.Cipher.init(+7)
at KEYback.startApp(+210)
at javax.microedition.midlet.MIDletProxy.startApp(+7)
at com.sun.midp.midlet.Scheduler.schedule(+270)
at com.sun.midp.main.Main.runLocalClass(+28)
at com.sun.midp.main.Main.main(+116) however, the problem is solved when I change the DECRYPTO_MODE into ENCRYPTO_MODE
so, is it impossible to do decryption with publickey on the mobile???because in the JSR177 apis,there is not "PrivateKey" this class so we only can use the "PublicKey" to do Decryption on the Mobile and do Encryption on Server with the PrivateKey..Sorry, I forgot that you are working in the J2ME context.
as the result of our test , when the cipher_mode is "Encrypto", the code is run well, but when we turn is to "Decrytpo", the Exception is appear.Did you check that the encryption does return a valid result? Because while reading the JSR177 javadoc I got the feeling that the PublicKey only exists for verifying signatures.
May be you should consider switching to the J2ME Bouncycastle implementation completly (or only for decryption). AFAIK it works idependent of JSR177.

Hi Everyone,
I've written an application in MIDP which connects to a servlet and the servlet returns some information using a HTTP connection. Now I want to build in some sort of security and heard that it is possible to use HTTPS. Does anyone know some links where there is a tutorial or explanation on how to use HTTPS (both in MIDP as in J2EE)?
Thanks in advance,
Martijnit doesn't exist in MIDP for PalmOS yet. apparently it's due some time in "the next couple of months" (read sometime in 2010).
As for the other midp implementations, who knows.
generic embedded encryption is available from bouncycastle.org

Hi
I am developing a number of applications using J2ME. They run on mobile phones and need to be able to send data to a server. I need to encrypt this data as it contains personal information about the user. I cant use HTTPS because some of the applications use MIDP 1.0 and only support HTTP.
So I want to encrypt the data myself and I was wondering if you could help me with my approach and answer some questions...
I think the best way is to use RSA public/private keys in combination with a symmetric encrypting algorithm. So the mobile will have the public key part and the server will have the private key. The data will be encrypted using a symmetric algorithm. The key used in the encryption will then be encrypted using the public key. Both the encrypted key and the encrypted data will then be sent to the server. The server uses its private key to decrypt the key and then use the key to decrypt the data.
How does that sound? I will be using Bouncy Castle crypto. What is the best way to generate a public/private key pair? I then need to somehow include the public key with the application. Should I randomly generate the symmetric key myself?
Also what algorithm would you suggest for encrypting the data. Remember that it is on a resource constrained mobile device.
If you have any other comments I would like to hear them. Thanks for your time.Thanks for the pointer. The thing is we changed our minds. We discovered strong encryption was not needed since our scheme is like the DVD encryption. The data is unencrypted by the application used by the person that does not have to know the data.
We went with Rot13. jeje
Thanks anyway. -
I'm getting a bit confused between the cldc + palm overlay (com.sun.kjava) and the new hype regarding MIDP for Palm OS. Is com.sun.kjava going away, or is it another tool for another purpose?
Any ideas on implementing pdb-like functionality?Hi c2cate:
Sun has modified the com.sun.kjava classes. The most recent j2me_cldc installation includes updates to the com.kjava.api package. I'm using this package and will continue to do so. It's in my development environment and will stay there until I remove. Therefore, does it really matter if and when Sun choses to stop supporting/modifing the com.sun.kjava at some later date?
I've written a server-side API that extracts data from mainframe-databases and server-databases and creates PDB formatted files which are then installed onto the Palm. I've used the com.sun.kjava widgets to develop a Customer Relationship Management application that contains over 20 screens and accesses (7) different PDBs. I've also enhanced the Palm Spotlet to now allow the users to access data from the PDB or to request and receive data via a wireless connection with strong-encryption which also updates the respective PDB record.
P.S. Mr. Bill Joy , I'm more concerned with the following:
- I can create PDBs externally and install them onto a Palm, initializing the Palm with data.
- PDB data is accessable by other Spotlets and applications.
- I can HotSync the modified PDBs back to the server-side and mainframe-side databases.
- Can I create RMSs externally and install them onto a Palm or Cell phone?
- Why is RMS data accessable only by those Midlets contained in the suite.
- Can I HotSync the modified RMSs back to the server-side and mainframe-side databases.
- Can the RMS classes read PDBs? -
Hello all
I have a j2EE application using Mysql database. I'm interested in providing an extension to the system so that data can be input using a mobile using J2ME. The midilet interacts with a http connection servelet which in turn updates the database. What I'm looking for is proper encryption of data send from/to the mobile. does J2ME support encryption(like triple DES). How do i do it? if this is not possible then what is the solution.
thanks in advance.Hi,
There are two ways to achieve this.
one is either use bouncy castle, as mentioned in the previous replies, or you can also use the SATSA(security and trust services API), a crypto API for MIDP phones, which is an official JSR. (JSR-177)
IT all depends on the phone capabilities. I would put my money on SATSA because it is faster than Bouncy castle, but since it is a JSR, your phone may / may not support it. -
User experience with secure MIDP connections
Since MIDP 2.0 allows for secure SSL connections to a host, I was wondering whether there is a way to show the user that a secure connection is being used. In other words, what is the MIDP equivalent of the closed padlock that we're used to in a browser when we use https.
Is there any standard for this? Is it all up to the device manufacturer? Do any of them show the user this type of information?
Sander SmithSo you think that if you had some padlock or anything else on the phone you would be 100% sure you are not communicating with a hacker? Beneath all this you are doing the same thing: using https for example; so if a third party would eavesdrop on this, no matter what you show, it will still be 'invisible' to you, to the application or to the bank (mostly).
I believe that if the client knows that by using this application he will be using a secure connection every time he sends or receives sensitive data, that would be enough; it is up to you to enforce a powerful encryption.
Now, if you, for example, use the phone's browser to go to a secure web site, then you could see if indeed the phone shows some sign that it uses a secure connection.

Dear All,
i want to insert encrypted Password of 'password' string into table user_dtl column PASSWORD .
How can i insert Encripted password into table.
ThanksHi Vedant,
See the CUSTOM_HASH function that is installed with sample application in the APEX.
Here is the code for it:
create or replace function custom_hash (p_username in varchar2, p_password in varchar2)
return varchar2
is
l_password varchar2(4000);
l_salt varchar2(4000) := 'XFSPL28ZTWEWWM6FHWMK68AG5NQVLU';
begin
-- This function should be wrapped, as the hash algorithm is exposed here.
-- You can change the value of l_salt or the method of which to call the
-- DBMS_OBFUSCATOIN toolkit, but you much reset all of your passwords
-- if you choose to do this.
l_password := utl_raw.cast_to_raw(dbms_obfuscation_toolkit.md5
(input_string => p_password || substr(l_salt,10,13) || p_username ||
substr(l_salt, 4,10)));
return l_password;
end;
i want to insert encrypted Password of 'password' string into table user_dtl column PASSWORD.The above function will give the encrypted password which can be inserted into USER_DTL as follows:
INSERT INTO USER_DTL(USERNAME,PASSWORD) VALUES(:P1_USERNAME, CUSTOM_HASH(:P1_USERNAME,:P1_PASSWORD))Be sure that PASSWORD column in USER_DTL is of type VARCHAR2 and of adequate length as to accommodate the encrypted password.
Hope it helps!

Bit locker drive encryption failed due to power failer and hard disk corrupted
I ran Bitlocker drive ecryption drive D. My pc is windows 7 ultimate, while it was in progress of 1% due to power failer the encryption failed, when power resume the drive didn't showed the file format nor the size but it shows the size in disk management.
It showed like this in My computer
I do Have the recovery code password and back of recovery password so I ran the "manage-bde-_unlock D:-rp[my code ]
and my pc got hang no other option rather than to press the restart button.
then I used commang "repair-bde -force D:I:-rp[my rp] and following info showed but it stucked in 1% about 8 hours, and there was no increase in the pecentage
I also connected the hardisk to mac but all othe partation showed but didn't showed the encrypted one.
I had lots of memorable picture and other backups so any one kindly help me to get out of this problem. Thanks for helpHi,
The BitLocker encryption and decryption processes can be interrupted by turning the computer off, and it will resume where it left off the next time Windows starts. This is true even if the power is suddenly unavailable.
Bitlocker-repair (repair-bde) tool
can't repair a drive that failed during the encryption or decryption process.
In addition, could you please explain a bit for what drive you are trying to deal with? external one?
When you first restart your PC, have you seen any signs that indicate that the encryption is in process?
Regarding your scenario, please take a look to see if the following articles could help here:
Scenario 11: Recovering Data Protected by BitLocker Drive Encryption (Windows 7)
Besides, when running manage-bde command, did we followed the steps mentioned in the below article?
Scenario 14: Using a Data Recovery Agent to Recover BitLocker-Protected Drives (Windows 7)

Data Recovery from Partitioned and formatted Bit Locker Encrypted Drive
Recently because of some issues in windows 7 installation from windows 8 installed OS. it was giving as the disc is dynamic windows can not be installed on it. so at last after struggling hard no other solution i partitioned and formatted my whole
drive so all data gone included the drive which was encrypted by bit lockers.
For recovery i used many software such as ontrack easy recover, get data back, recovery my files professional edition but still i couldnt able to recover my data from that drive. then i found some suggestion Using CMD to decrypt my data first
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee523219(WS.10).aspx
where it shows it successfully decrypt my data at that moment my drives were in RAW format excluding on which windows is installed and then in CMD i check Chdsk which also shows no problem found. but now problem is still i coudnt able to recover
my data then i format the drive D and again tried to recover data using above software after decryption still no result.
Now i need assistance how i can recover my encrypted drive as it was partitioned and also formatted but decrypted also as i have its recovery key too. thanksHi ,
I am afraid that we cannot get the data back if the drive has been formatted even if use the
BitLocker Repair Tool.
You’d better contact your local data recovery center to try to get data back.

MBean creation: Encrypted = "true" doesnt work in MBeanAttribute
Hello!
I'm trying to create a custom AuthenticationProvider for WLS7 (up to
date with service packs) and use the
weblogic.management.commo.WebLogicMBeanMaker to create the necessary
stubs. The authanticator should remember the system user and its
password, so I created the following two <MBeanAttribute>s for the
MBeanType:
<MBeanAttribute Name="SystemUser" Type="java.lang.String"
Writeable="true" Default=""system"" CachingDisabled="false"
CurrencyTimeLimit="-1" Deprecated="false"
GenerateExtendedAccessors="false" IsIs="false" Iterable="false"
LegalNull="true" Listen="false" Log="false" NoDoc="false"
NoDump="false" Readable="true" Visibility="1" />
<MBeanAttribute Name="SystemPassword" Type="java.lang.String"

GenerateExtendedAccessors="false" IsIs="false" Iterable="false"
LegalNull="true" Listen="false" Log="false" NoDoc="false"

It works fine as long as I leave out Encrypted="true" in the
SystemPassword, but if I do this, I can find the password hanging
around in cleartext in the /domain/userConfig/Security-folders. If I
use Encrypted="true" it compiles fine, the server starts up fine, I
can configure it without a problem. But as soon as I set the password
in the admin-console and restart the server I get the following

Encrypted="true" does not encrypt MBean attribute
Hi,
I have developed a Custom Weblogic Security Service Provider. I have also created
an MBean
to manage my provider. One of my MBean attributes is as follows:
<MBeanAttribute
Name = "JdbcPassword"
DisplayMessage = "The JDBC Password to the security database"
Type = "java.lang.String"
Writeable = "true"
Encrypted = "true"
Default = ""password""
/>
I have specified Encryped="true" above, however, the value I put in the Weblogic
Console
is still seen in cleartext in the config.xml. Why isnt it being encrypted? Or
do I misunderstand
the purpose of the Encrypted attribute?
Thanks,

RBACx Encrypted Password Change Utility
Hi all,
In the OIA/SRM installation guide, there is a reference to a tool, to find out the password of rbacxservice.
"Oracle Identity Analytics utilizes an encrypted password when communicating with the database.
To change the default database password, use the RBACx Encrypted Password Change Utility"
Could you please help me finding out this tool.
Many thanks in advance.
Warm regards,
Manipradeep Sunku.The mentioned tool only encrypts the password so that you don't have to store a plain text password in the config file. It does not decrypt it. The default rbacxservice password is rbacxservice.
The tool does not come with the OIA/SRM distribution so if you need it, you will need to contact support. -
