Encryption software for Mac book

I need to send a few Word Documents via email and I was told to encrypt them.  Can anyone recommend an encryption software that can do this?

When you ZIP a file and password protect it, the archiver encrypts the files. On the receiving end, they'll be prompted for the password. The password acts as the decryption key.
In Terminal, you can use zip to fulfill the requirements. Here's an example:
Gaia:~ trane$ zip -9 -e myfile.zip myfile myfile1
Enter password:
Verify password:
  adding: myfile (stored 0%)
  adding: myfile1 (stored 0%)
In this example, the zip utility is set to maximum compression (-9) and encryption (-e) to create the zip archive called myfile.zip, adding two files (myfile and myfile1) to the archive. It asks for the encryption password twice and then creates the archive.
As a note about security, it's a good idea to send the password for the archive in a separate e-mail; otherwise, encrypting the files has no meaning at all.

That is a complex question, whose answer depends greatly on you. See my Mac Malware Guide for the information you need to protect yourself and to make a decision about anti-virus software.

  • Best software for mac book pro

I am a new mac user and having trouble finding the best software for mac.  Windows for mac and parallels desktop have been recommended to me.  There is such a significant price difference between the two, is there a difference in what they offer? Are there any other software options for mac that I should be looking into?

Windows is a operating system from Microsoft, that costs more money.
OS X is the operating system on your Mac, it came free with the Mac you bought.
Parallels and VMFusion are paid virtual machine software that can run other operating systems like a programs inside other operating systems, there is a performance penalty, but it's easier for new users and those who don't need the full power of the hardware.
There is also VirtualBox, it's free virtual machine software with less features, but doesn't suffer from forcing you to upgrade for more money like the commercial versions do.
Virtual Machine software has the ability to run other operating systems and a large portion of their software, which makes it attractive.
There is Apple's BootCamp, it's also free, which allows one to section their boot drive space (called a partition) and install Windows 7 (only) there, this way one can directly boot a Mac into Windows 7 for better performance for 3D games and other heavy CPU uses. Although it's easy, it can be a lot more problematic if there is a problem.
So you have those choices to run plenty of software, from Windows based programs, to Mac ones to Linux ones too.
Windows in BootCamp or Virtual Machine?

  • Download windows support software for mac book air running Mac oS Lion.. too slow in bootcamp

    Hi guys,
Do you know a site which I could download the windows support software for my mac book air running MAC OSX Lion. Using bootcamp takes a very long time and seems to be stuck. Any help is highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Whart exactly are you having problems with?
Installing Boot Camp, manually updating the B.C. Drivers, Apple software update updating the drivers, or Windows Software updates?
You will or have a full Windows install. _ALL_ Microsoft Windows software is through Microsoft or 3rd partys. Apple just supplies the drivers for their hardware to be run in Windows.
If you want to manually install the Boot Camp drivers then try here?:
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Underneath the hardrive picture is a link for _Downloads_, it shows up as an error in my browser but when i put in "Boot Camp" in the "Search Downloads" bar I got a large list.
    Hope that helps.....

Is there a Bill of Quanties software that works with mac book.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
Is there a reason that you think that Office for Mac 2011 won't work on Mt Lion?

  • Do you need anti virus software for mac book pro

Is it true that the new mac book pro computers are now more susceptable to virus attacks and malware then the Mac books made  5 years ago.
If this is true what is being recommended to protect your mac book pro?
    thank you

OS X has got its own security systems, so you don't need any security application. Don't use any commercial antivirus. If you want more information about OS X and malware, see > http://www.thesafemac.com/mmg
If you want an antivirus, use ClamXav or Sophos, but as I said, you don't need these applications.
Now, there are some viruses for OS X. However, they are not serious, so you just need to keep your Mac updated, because the most recent Mac OS X versions include important security improvements

  • Please recommend anti virus software for Mac Book Pro

Also, are there any system tools to do regular maintenance for the Mac to keep it running at its best?

    Hi Marie,
Basically there are no viruses for Mac, so if there is malware. To get rid of this problemI recommend MacScan.
On the other hand, I recommend that you install software you do not use, in which case you want to install to test and then remove it, use AppZaper this app application completely eliminates the documents while away.

  • Need an encryption software for MAC n XP

does anyone know a good encryption USB software that will work on both MAC and XP?

You might look into TrueCrypt. I've not used it myself, but comments I've seen on the Web have been favorable.

  • Using Desktop Software for Mac with an 8703e - Can it be done?

I downloaded the new BB desktop software for Mac but it doesn't seem to work with my 8703e device.  And since I had to erase the PocketMac software to install the new BB software, I now have no way to synch my Mac and BB.  Can anyone shed any light on this?

You might check out the FileBrowser app on iTunes. I haven't used it, but it sounds like what you're after. When you say you can't use the Sierra iG2 with your iPad, I'm assuming you mean you can't plug it into the iPad. If it's plugged into a laptop and offering a WiFi hotspot, the iPad should be good with that. I use the Apple Camera Connection Kit to carry extra movies on an SD card. It uploads only to the Photos app, so no books, etc.

  • Desktop Software for MAC allows only two way sync

    hi...
I want help with the Blackberry desktop software for MAc. I am able to synce my phone, however there is no way in which I can do a one-way sync  - replacing all the data on the mac with the data of the phone...
please let me kniw if there is any way of doing that
    thanks

Isn't it simply because of the known problem with iCloud sync enabled?
This operation makes the address book and calendar(s) invisible to BBDM as the data files are "removed" from the Mac and put "in the cloud"...
Several posts are documenting the problem and suggest some alternatives or work around (by disabling iCloud).
Look on the forum for additional details.

  • Card index software for MAC

Does anyone know of some good software that acts like a card-index - somewhere I can store information about books that I read/reviews/quotations? I've tried 'Googling' card-index software for mac, and various other permutations, but not come up with anything that looks any good - or at least I have, but it only works on Windows!
    Any suggestions very welcome!
    Thanks
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Does it have to use a Card Index metaphor? There are many many snippet managers, that will grab things from, say, a web page and store them, index them for fast searching. They will also allow you to make notes etc, or annotate the clippings.
Search on http://www.macupdate.com for (in no particular order)
    Voodoo Pad
    Mori
    Yojimbo
    MacJournal
    Circus Ponies Notebook
    Journler
    and many, many more.

  • Label Templates or Software for Mac, Please. Avery software is no longer compatible.

    Hi Guys:
Mac Book Pro OS 10.9.1 Maverick
    Pages 09 and Pages 13
Avery no longer has downloadable software for Mac.  I have gone back to using Pages 09 as the new one isn't great. Label templates have always been a weakness in the Mac soft ware. I did have third party software from Avery which doesn't work with either Mountain Lion or Maverick.
I contacted Avery and they have an online site where you can create labels. I have limited band width so not an option. They replied back and I quote,
"We can only recommend using Microsoft Word for MAC as anlternative if you are only able to go online for a limited time. This software has preset Avery templates available. For more inquireis with this software, kindly check with Microsoft."
I copied this directly from there email. I had a hard time not correcting the spelling errors.
If I wanted Microsoft Software I would have bought a PC not a Mac.
If anyone knows of any label software out there that is compatible with Maverick, Please advice. I sure hope so.
I create a lot of labels,  less mailing more decorative.  If there is no other option I will purchace office for Mac. I really would like to avoid that.
My other option is to get the border---guide settings {not the right terminology} from Avery and create my own. With this fancy computer of mine I shouldn't need to.
Any constructive help will be greatly appreciated.

Label templates are pretty ubiquitous these days. Where is this data coming from? You generally need something that can conceptualize a database like this. Word can do that with its merge functionality. Apple Contacts has label printing built in. It all depends on the software you are using and where you are getting the data.

What is your Mac OS X version in Apple menu -> About This Mac?
If it is 10.7 or later, search http://www.roaringapps.com/ for solutions that match your operating system.
If it is 10.6 to 10.6.8, see this http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
Earlier versions of Mac OS X are harder to find software for:
If you aren't running at least 10.6.8, you pretty much have the same compatibility as any 10.4.4 through 10.6.7 system, and can upgrade for limited cost if any:

    Beyond 10.7 it gets complicated:

  • Hp All-in-One 2175 compatible drivers for Mac book pro 10.5

I can print, cut can't scan. Does anyone know if their is scan software that will work with OS 10.5? The lastest listed on the Hp site is from 2006.

Hello brie59, and welcome to the HP Forums.
I see you are having software issues.  There is no software for Mac OS X 10.5 for this printer.  I would recommend connecting the printer via USB cable and running the Apple updates, to try and utilize the basic Apple print driver.
