"End" an Access point

Hi,
When I turn on my phone it automatically opens up a particular access point. I don't want it to do that.
How do I stop it opening. When I go into access points I click on options and try to delete it but it says access point in use, cannot delete. Cannot edit it for same reason. It is one that I set up, was not on phone originally. Cheers
Oh ye I have an N95-1.Message Edited by needtogetfit on 10-Nov-200710:44 PM
Also there is a symbol in top right of screen that is a phone with what looks like a globe beside it. What does this mean and how do I get rid of it. Thanks.Message Edited by needtogetfit on 10-Nov-200710:46 PM

if you press hold the menu key for more than 3sec you should see what's program running in the background & you can close it manualy. Some unrully programs does not close automatically after you used them!Message Edited by android on 11-Nov-200708:15 AM
Knowledge not shared is knowledge wasted!
If you find it helpfull, it's not hard to click the STAR..

  • When using EA6400 as an access point only, certain features lost

I've set up my EA6400 and have it connected to my Verizon MW424WR(Gigabit) and it works fine as an access point and the Twonky Server uses the USB drive I have attached to the router's USB port. Problems:
1)I can not use the linksyssmartwifi link for management, I have to use the IP(set for 192.168.1.50) for this. When trying to register/login, the Linksys end is trying to find a Linksys router but can not and will not allow any action.
2)Although Twonky will use the attached HD, I can not share the device over the home (Windows) network. I've tried various incantations of the IP \\192.168.1.50\(whatever share name I can think of) with no avail.
3)Using the Linksys admin, the Device List is incomplete. Devices connected wirelessly  such as my iPod, Roku, Sony Media Player and WD HD TV Live do not show as wirelessly connected and do not have an IP listed.
4)Is there any point in using the Media Prioritization settings since no routing is done by an access point. Or will it actually prioritize the wireless connection.
BTW, the Verizon router can not be set in bridge mode so I have to use the router as an access point to accomplish what I wish.
    TIA,
    Randy

Some applications and router features require the use of the WAN port. If the router is set up for LAN to LAN AP mode only, then those features won't work in this mode. Only Router mode.
If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>http://www.practicallynetworked.com/networking/fixing_double_nat.htm and http://computer.howstuffworks.com/nat.htm If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Then connect the router in router mode using the WAN port to the ISP modem, then features and apps should work.

  • How do i get AE to work as well as old d-link access point

i have a d-link DSL-604+ which is great - works for broadband acts as a hub and provides wireless at one end of my long thin house. my main mac is plugged into it and works great. i ran some time ago a cat5e cable under the floor boards when we moved in to the other end where the wireless doesnt reach (just) and there i had a d-link dwl-900ap+ connected by the wire to the main router. it was setup with the same ssid and a different channel. my windows work laptop - depending on which end of the house i was would pick up the ssid and connect to the stronger signal no problems i could even walk up and down and it would switch over. now they are both b only and i have recently bought a new airport express with the plan of using airtunes upgrading speed of link and eventually changing my laptop to a mac. now on the old system my router would act as DHCP giving a 192.168 address. i seem unable to setup the AE to do the same thing. i can stream audio to my hifi no problems - this is cool. i can set it up to create a wireless network and give it a different ssid and channel but it doesnt seem to want to choose the same ssid. i can manually change it to the same - is this what i should do? however when i do this the AE trys to act as DHCP and gives a 10.1 address to the laptop which is odd - if i then move the laptop constantly tries connecting to both APs and changes its ip address. if i tell the AE to use 192.168 it says this conflicts with a wan setting. is there a way of saying get dhcp from elsewhere?
i am sure this is really straightforward and i am missing something. the dlink was easy i told it it was an access point - my network was called xxx and that the network had dhcp and it just worked.
should i be using the join a wireless network option instead of the create a network? but isnt this for people who are extending their networks wirelessly? i ran a cable.
    thanks

i seem unable to setup the AE to do the same thing. i can stream audio to my hifi no problems - this is cool. i can set it up to create a wireless network and give it a different ssid and channel but it doesnt seem to want to choose the same ssid. i can manually change it to the same - is this what i should do?
Yes you will manually need to enter the SSID.
however when i do this the AE trys to act as DHCP and gives a 10.1 address to the laptop which is odd
You also need to configure the AirPort Express (AX) to bridge (not share a single IP address).
should i be using the join a wireless network option instead of the create a network? but isnt this for people who are extending their networks wirelessly?
You should be using the "create a network" option.

  • Home sharing works on primary wifi but not via Access Point

I have two wifi routers set up at either ends of the house.  The primary router (Netgear DGN2000) is connected to an Access Point (Edimax EW-7416APN) via a D-link Powerline ethernet connection.  Both are configured with identical SSID names/passwords meaning I get seamless switching between the units when walking from one end of the house to the other.  Internet connectivity works fine when connected to either unit on laptop, phone and ipad.
The only issue I am having is with itunes Home Sharing.  My main PC is connected to the primary router via a further D-link Powerline ethernet connection.  When I am within the wifi signal of the primary router, the Home Sharing library from the Main PC shows on my ipad2 and I can access all music no problem.  However, if I walk to the other end of the house whilst playing a track then as soon as the wifi connection switches to the AP then the track will stop.  When I search for libraries then the Home Sharing library doesn't show.
The Access Point is set to be in AP mode. The latest version of itunes is installed.  The PC is running Windows XP
Any pointers anyone can give with this issue would be very welcomed as our main entertaining room is in the range of the AP wifi.

Do the old "forget this network" while on your home wifi, then reconnect to it.    If that doesn't fix it, it's prob a router/internet issue at your home.    Would need some more info to help futher troubleshoot.

  • Access Point(s) - AIR-AP1231G-A-K9 and others - Spotty Connectivity ...

    Hello,
We have eighteen Cisco Aironet wireless access points (most of them are AIR-AP1231G-A-K9 with 12.3(2)JA2 IOS loaded) across our campus which people have weird issues with connecting.
Everywhere, people can associate and get an IP address without any issues. However, they cannot maintain a reliable connection to systems either on our network or off. They will get a web page to load and then it drops them out. In addition, they cannot connect back again for random intervals of time. To make this even more bizarre is that for random intervals they maintain a solid connection until it kicks people out again.
The vlan itself (60 in the configuration file below) works without issue as we have devices plugged in directly to the vlan via a hardwired port and they are stable.
Below is the configuration file. Any reason why we would have this issue?
    Thank you for your time.

    Christopher Koeber

    Hi Christopher,
Couple of suggestions before moving forward:
    1. I would first secure these WLANs with a least a pre-shared key if possible(WPA/WPA2).  Let me know if you need information on how to do this.
    2. Next, I would remove the 'short-slot-time' on the radio:
    config terminal
    interface do0
    no short-slot-time
    end
If your users continue to have issues, I would want more information on the types of clients in the environment as well as wireless adapter make/model/driver version.

  • IOS7 on iPhone 4s: Since I have iOS7, my 4s connects very slow (or not at all) to a known Wi-Fi access point (e.g. at home). This this a bug?

Since I have installed iOS7 on my iPhone 4s - 16G, my 4s connects very slowly to my home Wi-Fi network. Sometimes it even doesn't connects at all. Which result in a higher mobile data usage (and thus higher bill at the end of the month).
Can this error be solved in iOS 7.0.4?

  • Use of non-Apple Access Point

Currenlty I have an Airport Extreme in the back bedroom of a ranch style home connected to my Cable Modem Router. I have two sets of speakers in the other end of the home with Airport Express units plugged into them so as to play music. The Airport Extreme creates the wireless network with the Express's joining the network.
I have recently added a Gigabit Switch to the mix that works just fine plugged into the Extreme's LAN port so as to have cabled connected to AppleTV, Mac Mini...etc in another room of the house.
My signal on the opposite end of the house as the Extreme has always been week so I purchased a High Power (2,000 milliWatts) 11g Access Point. My question pertains to the Access Point. I will be plugging this into the switch and placing into the part of the home with the weak signal. In my set up do I just need to match the SSID (network name), wireless security level and password as the APX? Also, the vendor told me to choose a channel on the opposite end as my existing network... does this make sense?
Thanks for any comments by those that might have a similar set up or knowledge on the issue.

I've tried several things now to improvie my signal coming from the Access Point, which is made by EnGenius, to include changing the names to match and to change channels. Nothing seems to effect the signal strength of the Access Point.
Below is a screen shot of iStumbler. Klein2 is the Access Point with Klein at 58% being my AirPort Extreme. The Access Point is two rooms closer to me and shows less of a signal than the AirPort Extreme. The first item in the list is an Express unit plugged into the back of a speaker set up to participate in a network and is not plugged into an ethernet cable.

  • New Xperia Z1 wifi problem 14.4.A.0.108 (Multiple access points)

    Hi,
I recently got a replacement Xperia Z1. This phone was immediately updated to the latest firmware (ending with 108) so I do not know if this problem existed prior to the update.
My problem is that the phone thinks it's still coneected to a wireless network even when it's not which prevents the phone from reconnecting when in range of a new network.
When it's working it looks like this: (same signal strenght in both the top bar and the settings)
When it's not working it looks like this (sifferent signal strenghts when compring the settings and the top bar)
And I'm 15km away from my home network
To make it work again I only have to turn off wifi and then turn it on again.
This screen shows for about 10 seconds when the problem has occured (instead of usually 1-2 seconds)
I've already tried to reset and reinstall the firmware.  Is this an hardware error or has this something to do with the latest update?
    //Mikael

    An Update:
I've found that this problem only occurs on networks with multiple Access Points and when the phone is switching from on AP to another.
If the problem occurs the network stays "connected" even though I leave the area as described in my first post.
    Does this help?
    I've tested on several networks.

  • An access point to replace Time Capsule

    Hi all,
I'm sorry I'm posting this here if I'm not supposed to. I wasn't sure where to ask this question.
I've been using Zyxel as my modem and Time Capsule as my access point for about 6 months now. I've grown increasingly annoyed with the drop in signal speed whenever Time Capsule does its backups - which is every 1 hour.
I stream quite a bit of series and music from my laptop through my PS3 and everytime there is a backup going on, the stream stutters...
So in the end I've decided I am going to buy a new access point for the network and use Time Capsule for back up only so it does not affect the flow of the network signal in the house.
Can someone recommend me a good Access point? Someone suggest Engenius ECB3500 to me, but it's only 11b/g and I'd like 11n if I can.
I have about US$200 budget for this.
Thanks for all opinions in advance.

If you don't really need to backup each hour on the Time Capsule, you might want to take a look at Time Machine Editor to allow you to schedule backups whenever you like.

  • E4200 as access point ?

Hi everyone, trying to figure out something with my setup, cant seem to be able to access my e4200 once its bridged, here is my setup, DSL modem to a dlink 655 at far end of house where most action happens, had a dlink 615 which pooched an replaced with e4200 for other side of house mainly for bedroom wifi, an 1 wired comp (sons desktop), was using the dlink 615 as an access point, so wanting to replace that I grabbed a e4200, setup all wifi stuff an most others settings an set it into bridge mode, moved line over from wan to lan port an works pretty good, only issues I have is that I cannot access the e4200 web interface anymore, have to reset an start from scratch if I wanna change some settings, an second issue is wifi speeds seem low in terms of Mbps, right next to e4200 I can only get 65-90mbps on laptop, next to dlink 655 I get 270mbps, any help or suugestions would be great, thanx !

The E4200 is playing nicely with the available bandwidth. Due to that it picks bandwidth 20 Mhz or 40 MHz automatically. If it finds too much interference it will revert back to 20 MHz and thus max speed you see on the 2.4 GHz band is usually 150 Mbps or sometimes 75 Mbps depending on the amount of interference.
Try to make transfers of a large file from a wired computer to wireless. Compare the transfer rates on both access points. Often you find that a foreced 40 MHz connection (which you cannot do on the Linksys) gives you crappy throughput on the 2.4 GHz because you allocate 2/3 of the total band available and thus almost any other wireless transmission in your neighborhood would interfere and slow down the transfers...

  • Trying to get home shaing working on apple tv using Cisco Access points and a Cisco WLC 5508 with 7.2.110 code.  I can get devices working individually but they never see each other.  I can ping the apple tv from my laptop and ipad.

Trying to get home sharing working on a corporate wireless network.  Cisco wireless.
    WLC5508 controller
    Cisco 3502 access points
All apple devices on same WLAN - security WPA2-PSK
    ITunes account up to date
    All devices laterst software.
Can ping apll tv from laptop
can ping apple tv from ipad
    Can ping ipad from laptop
    can ping laptop from ipad.
Apple tv never sees any other device.
    Any ideas?

Fascinating just reading about your setup. I have a WRT350N and have noticed that it will drop its speed, sometimes down to 1Mbps. It seems to do so at about the same time every day, but usually comes back to speed in about 5 minutes. In my experience, the Apple TV will disconnect if the speed falls this low. Try monitoring the Linksys with Netstumbler, Vistumbler, or just in the Windows Network utility.
Check the "lease obtained" and "lease expired" times for your router to see if that is when the network fails. I've just finished reading an angry thread over at the Linksys forum about the WRT330N where someone mentioned that the router wasn't renewing its lease.
"I cannot set it run off automatic DHCP from the WRT330N, the router will not assign it an IP every time the lease expires, causing me to have to manually set an IP on the Print server. That's annoying. Having the router drop IP's to individual machines after 12-48 hours...very annoying."
    http://forums.linksys.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Wireless_Routers&thread .id=67412
If that is the problem, then I would consider setting up a Static IP address for your Apple TV. You can do that through the user interface -> Settings -> Network -> Configure ... (Quite intuitive as you only have change IP address and the subsequent details remain the same.)
My router assigns IP Addresses in the ranges of 192.168.1.100 ->149. The idea here is to choose an address outside of that range but is not greater than 192.168.1.253 (and should not end in the number 1). You shouldn't have to change the linksys router as long as 50 clients are assigned in that range. You'll have to figure that out by accessing your router webpage at browser address 192.168.1.1 -> the default password is "admin" (without the quotes).
    Good luck.

  • Access point confusion

Hey thanks! So is each access point connected to a cable, but just from behind the device if it's not daisy chained? I guess this is the most confusing to me. Sorry to be a pain! ha

All of the jobs that I have had mainly were end user support, hardware/software support. Some server management in AD , Exchange, etc. Virus removal, training, along with network support. Everything though, was pre-existing so I had never set up an entire network from nothing, on my own. Where I work they are installing around 15-20 access points since the building is huge. I am not sure, if any how involved i will be but would like to get some knowledge from people with experience because I want to learn and ensure that I understand what is going on.How are these connected, exactly? When you look at them, they appear to be just on the ceiling or wall with no cords at all (Maybe the Ethernet is hidden?) but lit up. I believe they are POE so they will only require an Ethernet cord, right? How are they connected? To where? Is each one...

  • Stor.E access point stops working after a few seconds

Purchased a Stor.E Wireless Adapter and followed instructions but after turning the device on by connecting to USB power using supplies cables, WIFI access point disconnects after 4 or around seconds.
    1. i connect the device to usb power
    2. Power light blinks green and stays on
    3. wireless light becomes green and stay on, turns off after a few seconds
Managed to connect to it using the mobile app a few times, while its on, but since the WIFI point disconnects, cannot use it.
    Any thoughts ?

    1. i connect the device to usb power
The Stor.e Wireless Adapter should be connected to mains power and the other end to the external HDD.
Then you could use the app to access the content wirelessly.

  • Question about using "dumb terminals" for multiple access points

For both home and a small busniess setting I have been trying to find info about the possibility of using some form of dumb terminal to provide multimple acces points to a single computer rather than a network of multiple computers.
I would like to use my LCD TVs, (which have AV and PC inputs) as monitors. I am going to purchase a new mac soon, and it seems it would make sense to spend more on 1 mac with more capability rather than 5 mac-minis (yes, I am trying to have 5 access points, with one one mac).
I have CAT5 running to all the locations I want to use, I also have airport.
For the most part I'm expecting only one user at a time, but occasional two. OS X is multi user, but can it support simultaneous users?
I have searched the discussions/forums and some google searching. Maybe I'm asking the wrong questions. But, I can't imagine that I am the only person who has thought of this.
If you have any thoughts or suggesting for further searching I would appreciate it. Thanks

On each of these 'dumb terminals' I assume you are looking to access the complete Mac desktop from the central Mac?
    Unfortunately, this can't be done.
In the past, the setup you describe first was used on mainframes where each end node was a dumb terminal. But it was just text.
Next came X11 which does mostly what you are asking about, but each end node is basically a full computer in itself. You can remotely log into a central server and get a complete desktop session. This would take using a central computer that is running full X-Windows and then you'd need a PC running Linux, or running Windows and a X-Terminal package like Exceed or a Mac with X11 installed (not sure if you can make the Mac X11 do a full-blown desktop X session.) Note that as the central server, you'd need a computer running an OS with full-blown X-Windows (Linux, Solaris, HP-UX, etc.) -- OS X is UNIX but it doesn't run full X-Windows as its window manager.
Finally, there is what are called 'thin clients' ... a good example is Sun Microsystems' SunRay... it's enough hardware on the client side to provide display, keyboard and mouse. They boot off a central Sun Solaris server and work just like X-Windows clients. The difference here is that the SunRay unit can't work on its own; it has no disk, and has to boot from the SunRay server.
And of course there's Windows Terminal Services, which lets you do the same thing with Windows. I think that takes Windows Server edition software on the central computer, and then a regular PC as a client.
Sounds like your only option is to use Mac minis as you suggest. But then there's no need for a central computer to share, obviously.

  • N86 8MP, Nokia Email 2.1.0, Access point troubles

I know that his has been an never ending saga. I just don't seem to be able to give it up.
There is a well known issue about Nokia Email 2.1.0 not being able to define group access points.
When I try to do that I am offered only particular access points or "None". This is ever so annoying as I have to manually change the access point every time I leave my home WiFi.
I am aware that there are ways around this using connection manager apps (I tried several: Auto WeFi, Easy WiFi....  ) but I was not happy with the results. One of them even disabled me from editing my access points.
It is weird that it is possible to define "Internet" as a access point for Exchange but not for normal e-mail providers.
Some people suggested to setup acces point to "Default" while setting up a new email account. However, I've never seen this option.
I think Nokia's terminology is so vague. What would be "Default" connection as opposed to "Internet"?
In addition, in "Network Destionations" it is possible to define the "Internet" group as "Default" so this will be the same thing, or...??? Am I missing something?
I stumbled upon this article that Nokia would release a patch addressing this access point issue.
I spent hours searching for the patch to no avail. Does anybody know whether that patch exists at all?
    http://www.e71fanatics.com/2009/01/big-ooops-in-recent-nokia-email-version.html
Having exhausted all possibilities I was thinking I could install Nokia Messaging 9.7. Apparently this version is compatible with S60v3 unlike the Nokia Messaging 10.2.
I have no idea whether Nokia Messaging 9.7 was ever ment to be for N86 8MP but if not does anybody know whether the unsigned version could be installed instead?
I would appreciate any piece of advice or suggestion.

    Hello!
I can't update my e-mail client via Nokia e52 internet browser.
I enter address email.nokia.com, click download link. The application Nokia Email 9.07 has downloaded. After this the suggesting message to install Nokia Email 9.07 appears. But error appears after my agreement - "An incompatible version of this product is detected, and has to be uninstalled first"
I have no possibility to uninstall detected Email, so I don't see any Email client in Application Manager.
Nokia developers, please, fix this bug as soon as possible
