"end of tap encountered" while capturing canon hv10

So.
I am starting a big edit tonight, and im on my second DV tape of capture and already coming into issues. I am using a canon HV10, and am capturing into FCE 4 via appleINtermediaCODEC 1060i60 settings.
When I start the capture of tape 2, I will begin to capture footage and it was start to CUE TAPE, CAPTURE FOOTAGE, ACQUISITION COMPLETE >> followed by a "You have reached the end of tape" message. I have watched the video many times before, and there are no dropped frames causing any potential capture issues.
I am about to put in my third tape and see if i get the same problems.
I am working on a mac pro 2.66ghz x2 4gb ram and tons of storage, i know my specs arent the problem. firewire cable is plugged in directly to front FW400 port.

I have put tape 3 in and it is giving me the same problem. Though when 1 put tape 1 back in, the capture is fine.

  • Live capture with FCE 4 and Canon HV20 - End of Tape when capture in HD

I have a Canon HV20 HiDef video camera that was given to me to record an event. I want to try and avoid using the tapes if possible and capture the video directly into my MacBook Pro using FCE 4.
If I try and capture video when the camera is set to HD output, the capture screen comes up, I can see the image from the camera on the FCE4 screen for a split second, then I get a message indicating the end of tape has been encountered. (The tape isn't even being used and is no where near the end anyway).
If I change the camera to DV output, I can change the FCE4 Easy Setup to simple DV control and it works fine to capture live, except that it is no longer in HD. I get no error message about the tape end being hit.
I am unable to find any Easy Setup configuration that will allow me to record live. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Play your tape forward to a position where there is continuous Timecode and try again.
As Ian suggests the correct _AIC Easy Setup_ is the only way to get HDV in to your Mac via FCE.
Note: Your camera must be set to output HDV assuming it recorded HDV.

  • New Mac Mini + reinstalled FCE4 = no capture from my Canon HV10?

I used to have an iMac 24" with FCE4, and then I switched to a 2010 Mac Mini 2.4GHz 4GB and reinstalled FCE4.
I don't remember exactly what the menu options looked like for capturing in the past, but I do recall it was dead simple. I would select some sort of Capture menu item and it would start my firewire-connected Canon HV10 playing and capturing (while showing a 0-1sec delayed preview of what was being captured.
Now I have two capture menu entries: Capture Project..., and Capture... . Capture Project doesn't work (it errors about selection error, batch capture, no sequence), and Capture pops up this big window that I never recall seeing before along with an error: "Capture Preset must have a video or an audio digitizer set to capture. Please change to desired preset in the Audio/Video Settings." I'm not even sure where the Audio/Video settings are; they don't appear to be in User Preferences, System Settings, or Easy Setup. And incidentally, I have my Easy Setup set to AVCHD 1440x1080i60, which I believe is correct for my video camera.
I have confirmed that my machine sees the camera device in the Firewire list:
    HV10:
    Manufacturer: Canon
    Model: 0x10
    GUID: 0x85000124CAFB
Maximum Speed: Up to 100 Mb/sec
Connection Speed: Up to 100 Mb/sec
    Sub-units:
    HV10 Unit:
    Unit Software Version: 0x10001
    Unit Spec ID: 0xA02D
    Suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the fast and correct solution! I don't know why I got the setup wrong this time, or for that matter why I got it right on my previous install
Now that I have configured my Easy Setup the way you described, my capture works just as it did before.
    Thanks!

  • Current Time code field and "Capture Now has reached the end of tape......"

Hi I just got my new iMac and I have lots of space. When I open up the Final Cut Pro and press the capture now it gives me the notice that it had reached the end of tape, but I haven't reached the end. I have vhs in the VCR machine and it is connected through the digital device. Not only that but my current timecode field is always running and I can't stop it. Also I used the uncontrollable device and when the tape has reached the end I tried to escape but it seizes up and I lost my capture. what shall I do?

Yeah, I was just thinking about that. I'm doing this on an iMac.
What's going on with Capture Now? I know staying digital would be best. But I'm kinda doing this project to give myself some hands-on time with FCP to get familiar with it. I'd like to capture this stuff through the Log And Capture GUI if I can. Sooner or later, I'll need to do it with something else (possibly an old VHS tape) where I won't have the option of staying digital.
    Anybody?

  • Error: "End of tape reached, last clip was not captured."

I am trying to import a clip that I have successfully captured in the past.
    *The Tape:*
    Vis.TC, Keycode, and Audio TC.
    *Batch Capture settings:*
Use logged clip settings, no handles, dv ntsc 48khz, 29.97, 24bit, 720x480 etc.
    *The Deck:*
Sony DVCAM DSR-11 deck, the same one I used for importing last time.
    *The Device Control Presets:*
Apple Firewire Basic, Time source: DV Time, 29.97, Non-Drop Frame.
I imported the telecine log and selected the clip I wanted to capture. I hit batch capture. Click ok to the batch capture settings. The deck winds to the spot on the tape, capture starts, after 10-12 seconds or so I get this message...
Error: "End of tape reached, last clip was not captured."

Its clearly not the end of the tape...why is it doing this? How do I fix it? Any help is greatly appreciate.

Just to get you started, the DSR-11 firewire control protocol should be Firewire NTSC not Firewire NTSC Basic.
Also, are you sure the tape is NDF timecode?

Is it possible to monitor audio through my mac while capturing from a tape in FCPX?

I am sure that as you import a tape you will hear the audio as well as see the video.
    Have you got FCP X?

  • Error encountered while copying audio stream

In Captivate 4, I attempt to capture screens. I hear the clicking as it captures, I click END when finished. Program attempts to save and then a dialog box displays with "error encountered while copying audio stream". I am not attempting to record any audio.
I searched the web and found references to this error back two versions and two years - but no solution.
Does anyone know of a solution? Thanks.

    Hi there,
I have experienced this on Windows XP. In my case this was due to a dll (Dynamic Link Library) file not being corectly registered in the Windows XP Registry. If you are using XP then take a look at the following blog post.

If this doesn't solve the problem or you are using Windows Vista then please report this issue to the Adobe Captivate team using the web address I have included below.

  • IMovie 5 and Canon HV10

This question is somewhat related to one below and so i apologize for any overlap. I am thinking about buying a Canon HV10 Hi Def camcorder. To this point, I store home videos on 2 media: 1) miniDV tape and DVD converted from the miniDV tape via iMovie and iDVD. A newspaper article in the Ann Arbor News states that iMovie will support HD content from the Canon HV10. And so my question is 1) Is this true ? and 2) If it is true, is there a way to convert the iMovie made from miniDV tape to iDVD or must I leave it in iMovie form ? If I can transfer the iMovie to iDVD, will I lose the hi definition ? Thanks in advance.

    hey there ndbob79,
iMovie HD should be able to deal w/ the HDV format just fine. there are presently no hi-def burners available that i'm aware of & iDVD 5 doesn't support hi-def anyway, so yes you would lose the hi-def. iDVD will convert your movie to standard def(SD) for burning in iDVD. it's been my experience though that like other visual media starting out w/ a higher res format/image(HD) i end up w/ a better product when i compress/shrink it(DVD) as opposed to starting out lower res format/image(SD) & compressing it(DVD). i've made a couple of HDV to DVD discs w/ my Sony A1-U & been pretty happy w/ the results. i am however waitng for a prosumer BD burner.
also in iDVD 6 there are widescreen themes which are kinda cool, but seeing as it's now 2007, you may want to wait for iLife 07 to upgrade your iLife suite as there are sure to be more cool, fun things there.
you'll want a pretty beefy Mac w/ at least 2 GB RAM for anything close to real-time ingest of HDV. i've 2.5 GB on my DP G5.
    good luck.

  • Canon HV10 issues

Just bought a Canon HV10, got a 4:6 Firewire cable and hooked it up to my MacBook Pro but no video is importing. iMovie "sees" the camera and iMovie can control the playback (stop, start, etc.) but there is no video on the screen (it's blue) and nothing being imported. What am I missing?

Hi ..sorry; I was away for a couple of days..
"..the imported HD video in iMovie is in the Apple Intermediate Codec. The video imported into FCP is in HDV codec.." ..That's normal: iMovie uses the AIC to "rebuild" the missing MPEG-2 frames in which HD is recorded on the tape.
FCP is a different animal altogether, and doesn't need the AIC.
..Did you do a QuickTime upgrade which may have disturbed iMovie? ..I wouldn't bother re-installing the OS - that's a bit drastic! ..and you'd have to make sure that you re-installed using 'Archive and Install' so that you didn't lose any of your existing settings - but if you've recently applied a QuickTime update, I'd re-apply it, just to make sure that it 'sticks'.
I'm surprised that it won't capture HD if you start a new project with an existing HD clip (..which you've dragged in there from another project..) because playing an HD clip first, before importing more, usually convinces iMovie that it really can handle incoming HD.
Have you recently added any other codecs; Flip4Mac, DivX ..anything like that? If so, try removing them from wherever they may be (..probably one of your QuickTime>Plugins folders ..either within your username area, or in the main Library ..or possibly even in the System>Library..) and putting them somewhere else - like your Desktop - and then doing a restart.
Have you added a RealPlayer codec, or a WMV player? ..any of these might interfere with the AIC. Just reinstalling the AIC on its own might not 'take', and so it may be necessary (..if you had added extra video players..) to re-install iMovie HD 6, from your DVD or whatever it came on, and then doing the upgrade(s) again.
Sorry: I can't think of anything else just now which might fix it..

  • Premature end of tape?

still experimenting. attempted to capture some footage from my canon HV30 that i had shot before. twice got an end of tape message during the capture when only a minute or two into the tape. what could cause this?

If you turn the camera playback off whilst capturing, FCE thinks it has reached the end of the tape and gives you that message.
Are you sure nothing is causing the camera to stop playing back?
What Easy Setup are you using?
You could try deleting the User Preferences as described here:-

  • Canon HV10 or Sony HDR-HC3 for iMovie HD 6

    In case you're interested…
I'm in the process of reviewing both the Canon HV10 and the Sony HDR-HC3. Both use Mini DV tapes. I've heard hard disk models don't work with iMovie HD6.
I've tried both on my Intel iMac at 2.16 Gz and this is what happened…
    Sony HC3
I used Firewire cable (must be Firewire - Sony calls it iLink) and plugged in the cam with iMovie already opened. Clicked to the camera icon and… Nothing happened. There was no recognition of the camcorder at all. Zilch. I fiddled, checked the camcorder's audio was set to 16bit and changed several prefences in iMovie but still nothing. I had previously set the cam's time too. I've since learned the HC3 and many other Sony's are incompatible with iMovie HD. It's a lovely camcorder but unless you download some extra software – as mentioned in the forums – it ain't gonna work.
    Canon HV10
Performed the same Firewire connections and, lo, the camcorder was detected and I was able to begin importing HD visuals. But then… On immediate playback after importing I noticed the audio was running at half speed – subtley – the visuals too. I spent hours shooting short bits, importing them with other settings, and every time voices came out low and slurred. My wife sounded like a bloke. I posted the problem here and someone told me the HD takes a long time to render. So bear that in mind. And don't be impatient like me.
In this instance, the Canon wins.
    Apple iMac 2.16   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    Apple iMac 2.16   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    Apple iMac 2.16   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    Apple iMac 2.16   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I'm really confused now. I've set the HC3's settings to HDV (not Auto) and the iLink Conv to OFF. And still no joy. I've even tried 'Magic Movie' for which it searched for a camera but found nothing. I know the Firewire cable works because I've used it on the Canon and my own, older Digital-8 Sony Handycam.

  • How do I get around source tape issues while importing a DV tape?

Ok so I recently purchased Final Cut Studio 3 and I am attempting to import (to Final Cut Pro 7) DV tapes via a Samsung digital camcorder (model: SC-D365) and a 800/400 Firewire cable. However after a certain amount of time (it varies from capture to capture) a message pops up and displays the following "Capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape. This could be due to a problem with the tape. Capture has been aborted and your clip has been saved". The tapes themselves play perfectly on the camera. Also the few clips that I have gathered after many attempts have tons of audio holes. I am new to Final Cut Pro and have tried everything and I really need to figure this out because the tapes that I have are the only tapes of the project. Any help would be appreciated and since I am new to the program I would greatly appreciate detailed steps if you know how to fix it.

That camera is MiniDV, so by and large should be compatible overall. You should run a head cleaning tape (or a head cleaning ape if you have one - Magilla Gorilla?). But your deck may not be completely compatible with the recording. Subtle variations can cause dropouts that you won't see because the electronics just substitute the last packet from to hide this during playback. I've had tapes that would capture just fine in one deck, and dropout central in another.
Best bet is using the camera that recorded it to play it back.
Worst case scenario, set the capture to non-controlled device, press the capture button, then press play on the deck. However, you will not be able to re-capture that segment automatically should you lose your capture files.
    make sense?

  • How can I resolve the Acrobat Conversion Warning: Error encountered while processing images?

I'm using Acrobat XI, version 11.0.07
I created a PDF from PowerPoint 2008, and I'm simply trying to reduce the file size of my PDF from 7MB.
In Acrobat, I've attempted both "File>Save As Other>Reduced Size PDF..." and "File>Save As Other>Optimized PDF..."
On each attempt I received this Conversion Warning: "An error was encountered while processing images."
I've come across many other people experiencing this issue, but I have yet to find a clear, successful solution.
For example, I've seen the proposed solution "Advanced>Print Production>Flattener Preview", but I am not even seeing where to locate these menu options.
I'd appreciate your help in resolving the issue.
    Thanks!

Very frustrated with Acrobat.  I've received zero responses to my request for help using the online Adobe Community Forum.  I also just spent almost two hours using the online Chat with Adobe trying to resolve the issue.  Conclusion: No resolution.  I'm currently using a trial of Acrobat, and this experience leaves me no desire to purchase the software upon the trial's end.

  • SETTING to hear AUDIO while CAPTURING?

    Hi...
    (another) silly settings question.
How can I hear audio while capturing from my HDV deck?
When capturing from a DV device (a camera), the 'preview' box enabled me to monitor the audio from the tape while either screening it or when capturing it.
I don't see that 'preview' box as an option in the HDV log and caputure window.
Although I'm capturing audio from the HDV source, I can't hear it while it's loading. It's a little annoying as I'd like to be able to hear the tape as a way to decide if it's even worth capturing.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mark

We're here all week, try the liver.
I've always been a believer in monitoring in the signal chain. Granted I don't work much with HDV-- but monitoring what is going into and out of the computer, rather than relying on the computer's built in audio seems to be the way to go. Then you know what's coming off the tape, and what's going back down to the tape.
