Endless processing - anyone found an answer?
Most of Aperture 3 now works for me, but it still thinks it is processing 233 images, of which it never manages more than 3, even if left overnight.I've then tried splitting my library into four. Processing is interminable with each of the four quarters, so I don't believe the problem is just one or two rogue images. I've repaired the library and permissions, and I've deleted all unwanted versions of images. Fragmentation can't be a problem, because of the moves I've made with the library, the fact that I ran iDefrag, and the fact that my hard disk is nearly empty.
I know lots of folk have had similar problems. Has anyone hit on a solution yet?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Post the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
PLEASE DO NOT INDISCRIMINATELY DUMP THOUSANDS OF LINES FROM THE LOG INTO A MESSAGE. If you do that, I will not respond.

Has anyone found an answer for apple tv home sharing?
Iv just started using the apple tv 2nd generation. Im connected to a wireless network and streaming from youtube etc works fine.
So far no computer has been recognised by the atv2. Iv tried turning off firewalls but no change, i have the latest updates for itunes and atv2 but nothing. I checked the network ip addresses, all the computers working off the same accounts have the address 192.168.1.2 ,3 , 4 etc and the atv is 5 so i think that means theyre on the same network.
I have feeling the homesharing function could be the problem because none of the computers are picking up each others libraries or recognising any other devices (atv included) at all in the itunes device bar. Also, the homesharing icon disappears from all computers once you sign in.
Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone been able to fix these problems? Id really really appreciate it.

DamienSince I got my Apple TV2 I have had variable success with home sharing. My current set up is talktalk router (being used as a modem with wifi off), LAN connection to airport extreme (bridge). Apple TV connected to airport extreme via ethernet cable, imac, iphone, mac mini connecting to airport by wifi. There is a talktalk firewall on the modem but nothing on any of my devices or the airport extreme. Home sharing is on, the sleep settings are wake for network access. Tried Apple TV2 wireless but same problems.
At all times all my devices can access the internet via the airport extreme but the apple TV keeps loosing the imac library. Off/On of itunes sometimes helps but only reliable solution is to disconnect imac from network and reconnect.
When I use my macmini upstairs home sharing works fine with no problems so I would think the problem lies with homesharing and the apple TV. Very occasionally (much less than apple TV losing library) the imac loses internet although appears connected to airport with all lights green. iMac airport off/on also resolves this problem.
Any suggestions? -
Has anyone found the answer to the "can't connect to wireless" problem?
Since 10.5 I have not been able to connect to either our home wireless network or the city free wireless network. Our other systems running 10.4 connect perfectly. We also have 2 PCs which work fine. I installed 10.4 in a seperate drive in my system and it works fine. I tried to go back to 10.4 on my main HD but that turned into a bucket of worms. When you try to go back archive and install does not carry back your settings, prefs, mail, etc. I have Googled the problem and there are many people with the same problem. A few people said they had a fix but none worked for me. Anyone have anything new??

Anyone found an answer - Dual display stuttering when 1 display turned off

I'm having exactly the same problem as described in this thread. Running two displays out of newest Mac Mini (mid 2010 model). Video runs perfectly until I turn off one display, and then the video has a stutter I can't get rid off. Any ideas?

I'll have Snow Leopard up and running soon and be doing a clean install of everything and try to monitor the issue to try to determine what the culprit is.
If you run across anything in testing definitely post and we'll hopefully get it all resolved.
Just tried something which has usually set off the mouse stuttering, simply moving the mouse over towards the right side of the screen, where I have my dock located, the mouse will freeze temporaily, however, eyeTV which was still running, showed no signs of an issue. -
Anyone found an answer to the slow time m/c backups?
This slow back up problem with Time Machine has affected my Mac Pro work station since I installed Mountain Lion a few weeks ago. This is not a wireless problem as my time m/c is connected via a usb lead.
I decided to replace my 4 year old 1TB WD HD which I have been using as Time m/c since December 2008 as this drive had filled up quite rapidly since installing Mountain Lion, and I replaced it with a new 1TB WD HD two days ago. This did not resolve the slow back up problem, but eliminated a possible cause of slow back-ups.
I wondered if Time m/c was rewriting files as it used up quite a bit of space on my old HD?
The time m/c HD pauses for some time during backups, and will take well over 30minutes to backup a few megabytes of information.
Currently I am backing up my work whilst working, and I now cancel back-up on shut down as it takes so much time to back up to file vault.
The 1TB WD HD I am using for Time m/c contains all of my data from the two hard drives in my machine, but a check of the volumes of my HD's bares little comparison to that shown by the volume on Time m/c.
A 2011 Macbook Air which had Lion installed on it when purchased, and has now been updated to OSX 10.8.1 does not appear to have problems backing up to a 500GB Seagate portable drive. Although my 2010 Macbook Pro now updated to OSX 10.8.1 does appear to be slower backing up to a WD My Book 500GB HD.
Hope some one can solve this problem as I am baffled.If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.

In Adobe Pro XI when converting an excel file to a pdf, the pdf is not retaining the page size settings. Has anyone found a fix for this?

each tab has a different name, so, even if it did, it
ought to give the printouts the name of the tabs.
It doesn't print each page as a separate job unless the orientation is different - that's the bug. And the name of the job is taken from the name of the window, not the name of the tabs. That's how every application works, which, I think, is why Excel allows the specific selection or the active sheets to be printed.
Still, that does sound like a plausible explanation.
However, even if presented with multiple prints with
the same name, the spooler should print each one!
The spooler does print each one - you can watch the spooler process the multiple jobs. I think, though, that they are being overwritten since all the jobs have the name of the window as the job title. And since this happens after the Save Dialog is presented, there's really nothing the application can do. To Excel, it's one job, the multiple orientations don't matter; it's just that Apple doesn't handle it correctly.
As a workaround, you can print the selections one at a time and give them unique names and then rejoin them in one PDF file. -
Has anyone found a solution to sending mail to Groups in Mavericks? I've been given two solutions - neither are satisfactory. One is to type name of group into address line, the other is to go to address book and right click on group.

Hopefully useful tips for endless processing
I also posted this in reply to another user, but I think it might be useful enough to others that I will post it here so it's not so buried.
I'm just starting, after many, many hours, to see the light at the end of the tunnel with Aperture 3. I think A3 offers some great options, and is a diamond in the rough -- very, very rough, even in v3.0.1.
But I think I have some VERY USEFUL TIPS for you here (again this is after a lot of learning by pain... 4 different attempts to "upgrade" my A2.1.4 library (42K images about 200GB of images).
1st, and possibly most importantly the "SHIFT" key is your friend. You can use it when you restart A3 to stop the endless processing loop that A3 would fall into every time I upgraded or imported my library to A3 (or 3.01). All you need to do is hold down the "SHIFT" key while restarting A3, this should top all previously stuck processing as you upgrade your library. So use this tip after you first upgrade/import your library, if the processing bug hits. Then you have to be patient and go though your library and figure out where the problem files are (Apple has done a LOUSY job in not identifying what specific images A3 is processing in the "Activity Window" -- Let Apple know if this really bugs you)
2nd, at this point you will need to systematically go through your library and figure out where the "problem" files are and "fix" them (in my case all of these worked just fine in 2.1.4 - go figure). I would start by generating thumbnails for all of the images in a project, one project at a time (I had 150 some in my library). When you get stuck in the "processing" loop again, you can restart A3 using the "SHIFT" trick, and maybe just try a chunk of images within that same project until you find where things fail again, and until you can get to the offending image (if it's a problem you won't be able to generate a thumbnail for the image -- and A3 will go into endless "processing" mode)
3rd, this sound like a horribly tedious process and it is. But I can offer you some useful tips. In my case, and others as well apparently, a lot of the offending files are 16-bit PSD or TIFF images, especially if they had adjustments applied in A2.1.4. In my case I had fewer than 50 of these, so I exported an original and a jpg for each of these files. I re-imported the jpg and deleted the PSD/TIFF from A3 (I kept the exported original for future use). These files would then generate thumbs without endlessly processing. The other type of file that I ran into problems with were stitched panoramic images (often over 30MP) that I had applied adjustments to in A2.1.4. I simply removed the adjustments and the generated thumbs for them (worked like a charm).
4th, download some good podcast, music or audiobook... this will take a long time.

Funny you should mention this.... (actually it makes you look a bit like a "schill", even though you are not)... nope, as far as I can tell there is no way to tell which specific images are causing A3 to grind to a halt.
Hence my comment:

I wonder if Steve, yes that one, knew about this, being the perfectionist he seems to be, if he would have this feature included in Activity Monitor ASAP, or more likely it would have just been fixed by now (more of a "one-button" solution). Anyone have his house #?

Retouching large 16-bit tiff images causes endless processing.
I have a few high-resolution 16-bit greyscale tiff scans of antique family photos in my Aperture library. The largest file size is 420MB. Since upgrading my library to AP3, editing these images causes Aperture to process endlessly. Aperture doesn't hang or crash and I'm able to close the application. If I re-open Aperture, it's no longer processing, but as soon as I view one of the problem images, it says "loading" and "processing" and never finishes. I've tried repairing permissions, repairing the library and rebuilding the library, to no effect. If I export the master and re-import it, everything is fine until I start retouching. after 10-20 brushstrokes, the image displays with strange artifacts and the endless processing begins again. These images work fine in Photoshop CS3. I'm using the latest 3.0.2 build of Aperture. Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it?
I've had this problem with images saved as 8-bit scans.
Are you using any compression in the TIFs? I scanned using Nikon Scan 4, cleaned up a bit in Photoshop 7, reduced the bit depth to 8-bit, and saved at TIFs with embedded colour profile using ZIP compression, Macintosh byte order.
This used to work with Aperture 1.5.6, but with Aperture 2.0 I see a kind of offset pattern, so a vertical line looks like this:
If export the master TIF, open it in Photoshop (where it looks normal) and save it with no compression Aperture displays it properly.
(I'm still using Tiger, so I don't think this is an OS issue.) -
Has anyone found any tutes on the Shake Reduction filter?
This filter is driving me crazy. I believe it could single-handedly redefine what we think of as being 'sharp' in digital imaging.
I'm re-thinking old pics I ignored because, at the time, I thought they were too soft to use.
Still, exactly what each slider does is not obvious. How does chosing different areas to analyse improve the filter?
Am I fine tuning something the more selections I make, or just making an ungodly mess of my image?
Will this look 'over processed' a year from now?Thank you.

Has anyone found a quick, permanent solution to the missing iTunes.msi File? I have tried many times to upgrade both itune and quicktime and get the same old error notice. Surely, by now, someone has found out how to get around this mess. Please....
(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? -
I have recently picked up an Apple TV. When I go to the movies tab, there less movies available there than what is available in my i-Tunes library. I have 38 movies showing in my library but only 23 are showing in the Movies tab on the Apple TV. After researching this a little, there are only 23 movies showing under Purchased in the Quicklinks of my i-Tunes account. The majority of my collection are digital copy downloads that came from DVD purchases. Some of the missing movies were added in the past couple of months, the rest are a year-or-so old. I have done some looking around at questions from others, but I have not found an answer that will fix my situation. How do I update my library to get ALL of my movies to reflect that they were "Purchased"(as it says they were in their Properties)?

Thank you for that post, and the advice. I just happen to be one of those who it does work for. I've been around long enough to know that CC isn't going to work for everyone(the large publishing/radio/web company I work for isn't upgrading to CC because of the costs involved). But it does for me as I potentially venture out into the full-time freelancing world and away from the more structured big office environment. I can't make decisions based on what is best for anyone else, or what will hurt or help Adobe. Just what affects me, and that's all.

Has anyone found an easy solution to the U44M1P7 error when installing CC updates?
Like many, many people, shortly after Christmas, 8 updates appeared for various CC apps including Photoshop and Premier Pro, etc.
Every time I try to install these updates, it fails with the U44M1P7 message. I took a look at the knowledge base article about this message and they suggest that some language files got deleted or something and the apps need to be re-installed.
I know for a fact that I did not delete any Adobe files at all in any way from my installation. I do not use any type of cleaner software and have not even used most of these apps let alone deleted for messed with their files in any way.
For as many people that suddenly reported this problem with updates, just makes me suspicious that there is something wrong with the stinking update.
I just can't believe that I have to re-install all this junk just to get updates working again when it just stopped working for no reason at all.
Has anyone found the reason for this and have a quick fix?
