Endless syncing: issue with iCal (2.0.5) and iPod Touch 8GB (4.0.2)

Hi,
A couple of days ago I upgraded my iPod's OS from 4 to 4.0.2. Also, around those days, I made massive changes on my iCal's calendars (in my MacBook's iCal, not in the iPod's iCal). Since then, when I connect my iPod to my MacBook, iTunes stays syncing calendars and never stops.
I re-installed iTunes (the new version), but it didn't work.
I've tried rebooting, then restoring the iPod, restoring MacBook's iCal (Erased all calendars and created a new & empty one, then I went to Library and erased what I thought it was erasable).
I need help... I've just returned to college and it's a drama not being able to sync. Is it because iPod's new OS and Tiger won't work together anymore...?
PS: I've read something about MobileMe. I don't have nor want an account.
Thanks for reading and sorry for my poor English.

ranklam,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Troubleshooting .Mac syncing issues, should be helpful.
Just follow the steps listed under: General troubleshooting steps.
Before you do anything, make sure that you use iCal>File>Back up iCal...
Good Luck.

    You can wipe the iPad's contents completely by going to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings. This will remove all of the previous user's apps, data, settings and so on from the iPad and you can set it up as your own.

  • Sync issues with iCal/MobileMe/Google

    Seems like I've come across something rather sticky....
    History
    I have a MacBook Pro and an iPhone 3G. For the first few months of having the phone, syncing worked like a charm... no complaints. I then decided that I needed to get my Appointments etc up online for my colleagues to view as I travel out of the office so went into my Google account and activated the calendar feature, adding GoogleMail as a new calendar in iCal. No problems so far.
    Things seemed to work fine for a little while. A few weeks later (or long enough that I didn't see any correlation), my iPhone sync reverted back to an earlier state of my iCal calendars, including deleting a couple of new calendars I'd added in the meantime. Nothing was affected on my laptop btw. Google had gone completely berko as well. So basically no new additions in iCal were turning up on my phone.
    I then thought, hey I'll try out MobileMe and see if that solves things. Answer = nope. After setting up the account on the iPhone, this old "ghost" calendar decided that it would also sync to MobileMe as well as the iPhone. When I added new things online or on the iPhone, they would both update each other, but never iCal on the laptop.
    So I'm sitting here today pretty much over it, trawling the net for answers. I come across a post that says to simply delete the following folder: user/library/calendar - btw i did backup before i did this!
    I do this, empty trash, then reopen iCal. Blank Canvas!
    And then, after about 20 secs, the old "ghost" calendars pop up out of nowhere, with everything intact from about 2 months ago. I turn off airport, disconnect ethernet and repeat the process. Same thing happens... so somewhere on my laptop is a buried file that is finding it's way into iCal, and also overwriting all sync data just for iCal. Address Book and Mail seem to be doing just fine with MobileMe.
    The reason I guess why I think it's Google interfering (wouldn't be the first time) is that it's the odd one out when the "ghost" returns... I would've thought that deleting the Calendars folder would wipe everything out, but I'm sure when I went through the original GoogleMail thingy, it would've buried something somewhere at the time.
    So any help would be greatly appreciated. It really is driving me absolutely batty!!
    Cheers

    And it looks like I've just answered my own question!!
    Just found this post online, followed all the steps, rebooted, sign out then signed back in to MobileMe, re-registered the laptop and Bob's-your-uncle.
    So if anyone needs help, just follow these easy steps....
    The report shows that you have some data corruption. You should be able to resolve this by resetting Sync Services:
    * Open iSync (in /Applications)
    * Go to preferences
    * Click Reset Sync History
    * Try syncing again
    If that fails to resolve the issue, try replacing the database:
    * If you haven't done so lately, make a backup of your iCal calendars (iCal File menu > Back up iCal)
    * Quit out of all open programs
    * Make sure that nothing is syncing (Spanning Sync, .Mac, iSync)
    * Move these two folders to the trash:
    ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices (~ refers to your home directory)
    ~Library/Application Support/iSync/SyncLocalCopy (~ refers to your home directory)
    * Restart
    * Open iCal and give it a few minutes to write out the new database
    Please let us know if that doesn't address the problem or you have other questions.
    That didn't work in my case, so I ran another report (contained within the Spanning Sync Application) and sent it to them a second time. What they suggested next fixed the problem for me.
    I'm still seeing the same errors in the new report. Lets try clearing your calendar cache:
    * Quit out of iCal if it's open
    * Delete this file:
    ~/Library/Calendars/Calendar Cache
    (~ refers to your home directory.)
    * Delete the contents of this folder:
    ~/Library/Calendars/Calendar Sync Changes/
    (~ refers to your home directory.)
    * Open iCal
    * Wait at least five minutes until after it finishes "Upgrading Calendars"
    * Sync!

  • Major CalDav and Syncing Issues with Ical and Address Book

    As a CEO and business owner - I loved the move over to Mac after the intel chip as installed.  Yet, the issue of working on a Mac for business comes down to the operating system.  Up to Snow Leopard I was very pleased.... since Lion it has gone downhill.   I upgraded to Mountain Lion and many of the issues with speed and problems with mail were addressed.  Yet, it appears Apple has made a bad decision with regard to synciing to other programs.
    I was told it has cut out syncing capablities for Address book and Ical (I assume other programs).  This has caused great issues for The Omni Group, File Maker and Market Cirlce (creators of Daylite) and a lot of angst for me as a business owner!
    To top this off - it appears CalDav is not bi-directional and has issues.  In other words, it does not work as it should.
    I am not sure what Apple was thining when it stopped allowing internal sync between programs. Yet, CalDav and CardDav are not always the answers!
    I hope the CalDav issues are being cleaned up and if anyone from Apple wishes to comment on this I would appreciate it.  I have tried to talk to support but the powers to be are the ones calling the shots on software design.  Support can't fix what is broken the program.
    Again, I hope Apple revisits syncing.  Maybe the concern is security but it is MY DATA not yours.  I just want the programs to work so I can make sales and support my customers efficiently.   You have made it hard to do this with changes.
    David

    As an IT consultant,  i'm in agreement with Mr Utts.    The promise of "it just works" died with Steve Jobs.   Mac OS has been in freefall since 10.5 .    I need a fully functional OS,  not an iPad on my desk.  ( this means YOU Forstall !! )
    Why break Samba ( a standard ),  why break WebDAV ( a standard ), why break CalDAV ( a standard )??    Apple has done ALL of these things and they seem to be doing it on purpose.
    The Apple "ecosystem" is just fine,  but removing functionality as fast as you can, and removing interoperablity as fast as you can...  if Apple products ONLY work within the ecosystem... people can and will leave Apple.    You've already run off the business users by refusing to make a real Server or real Server software.   You ran off the video user with Final Cut Pro X.   Dumbing down (and breaking) the OS is running off the IT User.
    Mac OS used to easily walk the line of "hard core enough for a Unix Guru,  easy enough for your Mom".  Now they just want the Moms.
    And i disagree,  we are ALL "qualified to say what Apple might do about this...",  they will do nothing.   They don't beleive they have made a mistake.  They beleive WE are the problem by stubbornly insisting that things that used to work should continue to work.

  • Blackberry 8700 sync issues with ical using pocketmac

    Hi,
    I have a Blackberry 8700, which I am syncing with my Powerbook G4 using Pocketmac Blackberry edition.
    It is all fine apart from one thing- sometimes (but not always!) when syncing with ical it will leave the notes off of the end of the appointment.
    Has anyone else had this problem or know of any fixes?

    I have a different problem syncing my Blackberry with Ical. My Ical shows several "Pocketmac" in the calendar on the left and Ical takes forever to activate. This happens both to my powerbook G4 and on my Imac G5.

  • Sync issues with iCal on iPhone/iMac

    I have recently picked up an iPhone 5, running iOS 6.1.  I also run an iMac (circa late 2008) which is running Snow Leopard, so no iCloud integration.  I am trying to sync the iCal's on both devices, and I am seeing the following behavior: If I create an event on my iPhone, and then "Sync" manually using iTunes, then the new event appears on my iMac, but not the other way around, i.e. I tend to use my iMac as the Master calendar, so I would like to create an event on my iMac, and then have it appear on my iPhone when I "Sync", but I can't seem to make this happen.  So, the Sync behavior seems unidirectional, from the iPhone to the iMac only, but not the other way around.
    I have selected the "Sync this phone with Wi-Fi" option on the iPhone->Summary tab and the "Sync Calendars" option on the iPhone->Info tab in iTunes.
    Does anyone know how to make the iCal sync-ing be bi-directional (or barring that, uni-directional the "other" way) ?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Syncing Issues with ICAL & Missing .Mac Icon... related?

    We have been having problems with our ICal syncing for weeks, to the point where we have just stopped using our ICAL all together.
    But now, my .mac icon, which I use to access my backup database is missing off my computer as well, and also missing off one of the other network computers.
    Are these things related?
    Any updates on when the syncing problems will be resolved?

  • Sync issues with .mac & iPods / iTunes

    Hi,
    I have recently been getting sync issues with both my .mac account and iTunes. (all iPods)
    To be exact, it is having trouble syncing my address book.
    For iTunes, I can sync everything but my calendars and address book. (It freezes) My iPods work fine in syncing when I turn of the Ical / Address book sync feature.
    and when my .mac sync starts, my computer freezes. (When trying to sync my address book)
    This has only happened over the past week and I think its due to recent updates for the iPhone.
    Can someone from Apple investigate this please....

    HI Dean,
    Try trashing the preference files:
    com.apple.isync.plist
    com.apple.addressbook.plist
    They are here: Home/Library/Preferences. Open the Prefs folder, locate those files, drag them to the Trash and reboot. See if that helps.

  • Aperture, iTunes and iPod Touch sync

    I know I manage my iPod touch photos via iTunes. I know that I can sync Aperture with my iPod by choosing the Photo's tab after selecting my iPod touch device. I see that Aperture is an option, however when I choose it I get two radio buttons to pick from: "All photos and albums" and "Selected Albums". Problem is, the "Selected albums" is gray and I can not click it. I want to put photos on my iPod touch, however since my Aperture library is much larger then my ipod storage the sync ends up failing.
    How do I select the currently grayed out option "Selected albums" so that I can have some photos at my disposal?
    I am using a brand new iMac i7 with Aperture 3.0.1 and ipod touch software 3.1.3 and iTunes 9.0.3.

    same trouble with same software-versions.

  • My ical in my Macbook Pro is not in sync with my Ipad 2 and Ipod touch. What can I do?

    Please help,
    Every time I use my Ipad 2 or my Ipod Touch to enter an event or an appointment to my ical, either one of them will show the event or appointment as soon as they are connected over WiFi. The same event will not show up in my ical in my MacBook Pro. I tried to sync them and nothing. I double check to make sure all the features in all 3 (MacBook Pro, Ipad 2 and Ipod Touch) are set with the same features and nothing. My ical in my MackBook Pro will not sync with the events in my Ipad 2 or my ipod Touch. Now, if I type the event in my MacBook Pro ical, and sync my Ipad 2 and Ipod Touch, then I have the events or appointments are recorded. But, many times, I do not carry my MacBook Pro with me, and I missed an appointment for example. Does anyone know how to solve this problem. Thank you.

    Greetings,
    Questions:
    1. What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
    2. What version of the iOS are you running (Settings > About)?
    3. Do you use MobileMe/ iCloud or another server based sync solution like Google or Yahoo?
    4. Do other changes to synced information like Address Book content sync successfully back and forth?
    Based on your description it sounds like you have a 1 way sync issue.  Events sync fine between the iOS devices and fine from the computer to the iOS devices but not from the iOS devices to the computer.
    Try:
    Backup your computer and iOS devices before doing anything else:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
    Ensure all the devices in use are fully up to date: Apple > Software Update / Settings > General > Software Update
    Make separate backups of critical data:
    Backup your computer Addressbook: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=AddressBook/4.0/en/ad961.html
    Backup your computer iCal: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2966
    Reset syncing on your Mac: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
    Reply back if that does not resolve your issue.
    Hope that helps.

  • Sync Outlook with iCal

    Hi,
    I use Outlook and id like to sync it with iCal so that i can use iCloud to keep my calendar updated on my iPhone 4. The thing is that when I create an event on Outlook I want it to fall into an iCloud calendar on iCal. How do I do this?

    Grateful TL,
    You will probably need to access your Exchange server via Entourage to get the Calendar. If you are running a recent update of Entourage, Entourage can sync to your iCal calendar using SyncServices. SyncServices are used in conjunction with iSync or iTunes to sync with devices. Resetting Sync History is often a good troubleshooting step to try with any syncing issues.
    As for your syncing with your Treo, that may be best asked in the iSync forum. However, generally it may work, but if it doesn't the iSync devices page suggests using other software.
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html
    If you Treo is Palm OS based, you may be able to set it up like any other Palm OS device and sync. These article give instructions on setting it up to sync via USB or Bluetooth:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302120 (USB)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302227 (Bluetooth)
    If your Palm Treo was provided by Verizon, it may have come with syncing disabled, in favor of Verizon's over the air syncing service. This article explains how to enable syncing so that it can Sync via iSync and Palm Desktop:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302064
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Can't sync Outlook with iCal - but only when I activate iCloud

    I have seen discussions in the forums about problems syncing Outlook with iCal - however, that is not *exactly* my issue. I can sync them fine, until I put the resulting iCal calendar in iCloud. Then Outook (2011 for Mac) stops syncing with iCal (v. 5.0.3). I take it out of iCloud, it works. What I want to be able to do is: 1. Sync Outlook with iCal. 2. Sync iCal with my iPhone via iCloud.
    I used to manually sync my iPhone (4s) with my work computer (which apparently I could go back to doing if I change the settings in my iPhone?) and just update my work calendar to get it on my phone (my home calendar syncs fine, but it's not integrated with Outlook). I don't want to only use iCal, because I get a lot of Outlook invites for meetings.
    Is this a feature that's just not supported by Apple at this time? Do I need to upgrade my O/S? I'm using Mac OS X 10.7.5 (Mountain Lion).
    In short, I just want my Outlook calendar on my iPhone (ideally, without having to manually sync).

    What kind of iPad and iPhone are you working with.. and what Software version on (5.1.1) is the most recent..
