Endnote/Reference Misnumbering in the text body

Hi,
I have been working on a relatively long academic paper which involves the use of around 100 or so endnotes. As I am referencing during drafts which then require to move certain pieces of text around (copy and past or dragging references) it appears to have corrupted the number continuation. I now have a problem where the reference numbers in the main text are not showing the correct number. For e.g. I have reference note 14 in the text, which I then cut and paste further down in my document. It should then be reference number, say 25, but instead shows '2' or some other number.
Any ideas how to correct this? Thanks.

had the same issue as the original poster and neither switching to plain text or setting the two Attachment options in the Edit>Attachments menu to always send Windows friendly attachments and place the attachments at the end of the message suggestion has solved the issue as yet - nor has the "View as Icon" suggestion, is there anything else to try? When they reply to their email comes back with the images attached so there's something not right somewhere at their end of things too I'd guess. None of this happened before we bought new Macs with Lion pre-installed.

I have one of the original iPads. Suddenly (from yesterday) when I receive an email only the headings are shown - the body of the text is blank. Also previously received emails have also had the text body removed. Any suggestions as to what caused this?

    Try this.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • How to reorder superscript (endnote references) not that the document is type set?

OK, did a DUMB thing.  I didn't stop to figure out how to use Peter Kahrel's script for endnotes BEFORE I went and typeset the 400+ page document and now some of the endontes need to be removed. Is there a GREP way (I dont' get the GREP thing yet, dont' know the language) or better, find/change way to reorder the superscripts so I dont' have to go through one by one and change them??? (Using CS5.5)
Please help or I may DIE or kill myself, whatever comes first...
    Thankzz

Prospects for your health are not good, I'm afraid.
These numberes are now "dumb" numbers. They have absolutely nothing to do with InDesign's Paragraph numbering. The only way to change them is to look for each superscript number and change it to the one required. (Which indeed is tedious, especially when you have, or suspect you have, superscripted numbers in your text that are NOT endnote.)
If you were prudent and have been using character styles for your note numbers, you can do yourself a big favor by temporarily adding a thick, brightly coloured underline to this style. That'll make'em stand out a bit.
Updating the note list at the end of the chapter is something else. Step 1: remove obsolete notes. Step 2: remove existing note numbers. Step 3: add new numbers with Paragraph Numbering. Step 4: convert auto-numbering to text.
Only for step 2 you need the dreaded GREP find-and-replace. Look for
    ^\d+
and replace with nothing. These codes will look at the start of each paragraph (^) and any number of digits (\d+). Make sure to select the correct text range and the Find/Change is set to "Selection".

I want to get to the inspector (for formatting text in Pages), but cannot seem to find the correct keystrokes.  After marking text, I would like to double space (or go from double spacing back to single spacing).

    You're welcome
If those pages are publicly accessible without the need to log in and authenticate then you can post a link and I will see if I can come up with some code for [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/stylish/ Stylish] or [http://kb.mozillazine.org/userContent.css userContent.css]

  • Cannot get the text (body) of each e-mail - Just the headings

How do I get the body of the e-mail message?.  I receive the preview and when I click on the message the only thing is the heading material.  This just happened recently and I cannot determine what I did to cause this problem.  Thanks

Quit mail completely and restart the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Try this as well if that didn't work.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • How can I make sure the text size on front panel will be adjusted by itself from PC to PC?

In my VIs under VI Properties -- Window Size, I checked the two boxes:
--Maintain proportions of window for different monitor resolutions
--Scale all objects on front panel as the window resizes
It seems that it worked for everything on front panel except the pure text wording that I put there for instruction purpose.  The size of those text stuff didn't get changed proportionally after my application was built and run on different machines so some of them got cut off and looked messy.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
    Thanks very much!

    Hi Andrew,
Thank you for looking at my problem!
Both my development system and test system are Window XP. The font size are all set to Normal. What other details do you need to know?
The text on front panel shows well on my development machine. But when the .exe runs on my test machine, the text size was not adjusted by itself so the text body got cut off.
I found a way to "fix" this problem: I had to drag the text box down and right so there is enough magin between the text body and the box on the right and at the bottom. I had to try it a few times until it finally shows well on my test machine. However, with those magins, it doesn't look nice on my development machine anymore. Also, I only tried on one test machine, if it looks good on one test machine, will it look good on all the other machines? Eventually my app is going to run on Window 7. I'll have to test that out and find out if it's still going to be a problem. Anyway, I don't feel this is the right way to do it. I hope someone knows what I'm talking about and have a soluction to it.
    Thanks very much!

  • I DON'T want attachments to show in the text of the Mail email

I DON'T want attachments to show in the text of the email.
My company just switched over to Mail today. Every time we send an email with a .pdf attachment, it shows the attachment in the text body of the email. We don't want that to happen. How do I prevent this from happening?
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Mail 2.1.1

    You can't.
The Mail.app displays all image/photo and single page PDF attachments inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default - sending and receiving.
You can control-click on a viewed in place attachment and select View as Icon but the icon for the attached file will remain in the body of the message. Regardless, depending on the recipient's email client and available preference settings, such attachments may appear inline or viewed in place when the message is opened by the recipient (as with the Mail.app when receiving such attachments) or as attached files only which must be opened separately to be viewed for which the sender has no control over.
This was a minor adjustment for me at first but I now prefer such attachments being displayed inline since I have confirmation that I selected the correct file or file names as attachments before the message is sent.

  • How do I link and be able to go to a reference number in the body of the text to the references I am wishing to go to?

    Example:
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with increased
    reduced slow wave sleep.1
    to:
    1. Ng AK, Guan C. Impact of obstructive sleep apnea on sleep-wake stage ratio.
Conf Proc IEEE Eng Med Biol Soc 2012;2012:4660-3.
    Thank you,
    David A Walker, DO

    Hi David,
Since your post is in the Standards & Accessibility (tagged PDF) discussion area, I am guessing that your objective is to tag the reference and footnote or endnote to ensure accessibility by assistive technology users. A good practice is to nest the reference number in a Reference tag, and the footnote or endnote in a Note tag, then position the Note as close as practical to the Reference in the tag structure without disrupting the reading order. In this case the tags would look something like this:
    <P>
...Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with increased reduced slow wave sleep.
    ...<Reference>
    ......1
    ...<Note>
......1. Ng AK, Guan C. Impact of obstructive sleep apnea on sleep-wake stage ratio.
The current version of the Matterhorn Protocol requires the Note tag to have a unique ID in the Object Properties. The ID is not used for anything though, and the requirement will reportedly be removed from future versions.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I link the endnotes in the text to the references in the back of the file?

I have a long file, with hundreds of EN references. Is it possible to make the EN numbers in the text live, so that clicking into them will bring me to the corresponding reference in the back of the file, or, better still, if I hover over the EN number in the text, it will display the reference?

There might be an Acrobat plug-in out there that'll do it - don't know.
Best is to just set it up in the authoring application that is compatible with Acrobat's PDFMaker (for those non-Adobe authoring applications).
Make the links in the authoring application, have the links in the output PDF.

  • How can I attach a document to an email as an attachment that doesn't appear in the body of the text

When I send an email and attach a document it pastes it into the text.  How do I send it as a separate attachment?

Control+Click or Right Click on the attachment within the body of the email and select 'view as icon'. Also make sure 'Send Windows-friendly attachments' is selected in Mail>Edit>Attachments menu.
There is a (paid for) plug in available called Attachment Tamer that will make this the default behaviour and generally help Mail to make attachments more compatible across computer platforms.

  • How can I include the article text/body in the RSS feed of the wiki updates section?

I recently migrated from Snow Leopard Server to Lion Server.  Largely, because some people had trouble accessing via their PC under SLS.
Our primary tool is the wiki.
In Snow Leopard Server, we could generate an RSS feed for specific saved searches or recent changes/updates, adjust article length in the RSS feed, etc.  Using a feed burner, like Feed My Inbox, we were able to have a daily digest "emailed" to a mailing list.  Whereby, we'd get an email of any wiki articles that had changed, along with text from the body, so we can see the changes to the article in the email.
With Lion Server, the only RSS "feed" we can find appears to be on the Updates page.  Which is fine. Are there others?
Second, the we can't seem to change the article "length" at all.  All we see on the Updates feed is the title, change date, who made the change.  We used to be able to see a few sentences of the article body/text for each article...not just the title, but some of the changes.
Of course, our feed burner, now only sends along the article title in the digest...no text beyond that.
We've used the built in push notification in Lion Server, but again, that sends a nice email saying Wiki Article Title "X" has been modified by User "Y" with the date/time stamp.  You can click the link to read more, but no article /body is sent.
Is there a way to generate an RSS feed/link that shows not just the recent updated titles, but the first few lines of text in the article body itself in the index/summary?
I appear to be missing an easy way to generate RSS feeds, based on search criteria.  And changing the article length in the sidebar, to max, never seems to show any of the wiki article.
How can I show a portion of the wiki article body/text underneath the title of the article in the RSS feed in Lion Server?  Not just the article title and changed date?

About a month ago, I spend zillion hours to migrate from Eudora to Mail.
Eudora has been wonderful to me since Day 1 back in the early 90's. But, it has been discontinued as a commercial product. I had used the Japanese version of Eudora for several years, but it did not like communicating with Exchange at work.
I tried and tried various email clients before settling on Mail.
When I pictured interactions among my Mac, iPhone, and whatever email client I choose, Mail was just the simplest way. But, Mail is not Eudora. And, I dearly miss Eudora.
If there is no way to alter the contents of received email in Mail, I would have to adopt your approach on a case-by-case basis.
    Thanks for your help, though.

Control click or Right Click on the attachment in the body of the email and select 'View as icon'.

  • How do you verify the size of a large ( 32K) plain text body

    Hello All,
I am running GW 8.0.2 Hot Patch 3, using SOAP schema 1.04.
When I attempt to process a message, that contains only a plain text body with a size (in bytes) of 64,382 - the following sizes are reported by objects extracted from GroupWise, via SOAP calls:
Message Size: 71,425 (should be bigger than the plain text body).
Message Part [0] length: 70,854 - no idea where this value comes from
In the getAttachmentResponse object, the part has:
length: 87,772 - Which matches the Base64 encoded length, plus padding, of the plain text.
The actual size of the plain text (on disk): 64,382
I am hoping to use the HTTP GET method for extracting the large plain text object, which means that I will not have access to the getAttachmentResponse object.
So my question is, based on the MessageBody, MessagePart[0] length of 70,854 - is there a formula, or other way to determine the correct expected byte size of the plain text object to enable me to verify that the HTTP GET operation or the SOAP getAttachmentRequest completed correctly?
    Regards,
    Dave Stiller.

    Hey Preston,
Thanks for the prompt response. Not the answer that I was seeking, but none the less an answer. Thanks.
Can I suggest an enhancement for a future release, to add an additional structure to the message object that allows you to detail the available formats and byte sizes of the formats that relate to the message body object. This could even be an extension/completion of the MessagePart object array on the Message Body. (One array component for each available format.) There are no issues when dealing with large body texts as attachments, but an accurate byte count is important to me.
This will enable us to verify that the message body content, downloaded from GroupWise, has not be corrupted during transfer - particularly important when using HTTP requests.
    Have a great day,
    Dave...

If there is a text.htm message body attachment, the
GW Client will extract the text plain text from the
text.htm attachment and will ignore the text plain

There can be corruptions in the message body

size, but the actual data may be different.
You have to assume what is stored / returned is
correct. If you are bound and determined to read
the number of bytes recorded, you can cause
problems. There was one case where the attachment
was corrupt. The POA returned all the data that
was available. The application tried to read past
the end of the valid data and caused the POA to
    crash.
You get all of the data in one HTTP GET call. In
that case, the "Content-Length" header will have
the number of bytes in the message body attachment.
