Enemy Territory 64 Bit Sound Problem

Hi fellow Archers,
I am running Arch64 and managed to install ET. It works fine except the audio. I installed the et-sdl-package and its dependencies.
et-sdl-sound
   lib32-alsa-lib
   lib32-sdl
When I run ET the console outputs:
------- sound initialization -------
/dev/dsp: Device or resource busy
Could not open /dev/dsp
I have found multiple posts on this topic, but I couldn't make it work... could someone please help.
Thanks in advance.

I would recommend just downloading the et-sdl-sound script (it's a single file so you don't really need pacman's help to manage it) and putting it in /usr/local/bin or somewhere under $HOME. You will have to add '!strip' to the options array in enemy-territory's PKGBUILD, otherwise the script will not work (it says 'unrecognized ET binary' or something).
It seems the AUR package for et-sdl-sound gained some support for x86_64 since I last looked at it, but according to the comments (and the fact that it's flagged out-of-date), it has all kinds of new problems.
(Don't forget lib32 packages for pulseaudio in case you use that.)

  • Enemy Territory and CQB Sound

    Hey guys
Ok basically i downloaded both these games and i have no sound.
So Far i have tried the following solutions
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=918344
    http://linuxgamecast.com/2011/04/l-g-c- … attle-cqb/
I made the launcher and setup the sdl sound launcher for ET, the games run fine themselves. but i cant recieve any sound
Pulse works fine outside the game and SDL works fine in Nexuiz a different game. and everywhere else pulse works just fine

ok that solution worked great for getting  the sound to come out of my speakers. but now i have no idea how to get the sound to appear in my headphones, not my speakers

When I'm playing a match of Enemy Territory I would like to still here the sound that TeamSpeak produces. I've tried numerous things, but I can't get ET and TS to work together.
Does anyone have a succes story they can share with me?

    slave.pcm "asymed"
    pcm.!default {
    type plug
    slave.pcm "asymed"
    Thanks in advance,
    Marco

I had the same problem a while ago. The thing was that ET opened the sound-device in full-duplex mode (recording and playing at once) while TeamSpeak tried to do the same thing. But somehow this is not possible with the OSS Emulation of Alsa. So you've to overwrite the game's defaults by doing something like that:
    echo "et.x86 0 0 disable" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0c/oss
    echo "et.x86 0 0 direct" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss
    echo "et.x86 0 0 disable" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm1c/oss
I've no idea what exactly each line is good for and maybe you have to adjust this a bit, but I guess a google search will reveal it. I put this lines into /etc/rc.local so I don't have to do this manually after each reboot.

Did you download and install the Windows Support software? First step in Bootcamp Assistant is to download the support software. Then did you install the support software from within Windows?
Read the Bootcamp Install instructions. http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf

  • [Solved] Enemy Territory Punk Buster kicking me from servers

Has anyone tried playing ET in pb enabled servers recently?  I just tried a fresh install from AUR and it seems that I keep getting kicked with the message:
    Server Disconnected - Punkbuster kicked
player 'jb' (for 2 minutes) ...
    violation (GAME INTEGRITY) #20004
running et-pbupdate didn't seem to correct the problem, nor did going in as root to /opt/enemy-territory/pb and running pbweb.x86 from there, then from my local pb directory as me.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Cool, that seemed to do it; marking as solved.  For the benefit of anyone else that manages to run into this same problem, I'll spell it out here since there's a lot of competing suggestions floating around that, at least for me, failed to solve the problem:
    1. pacman'd upx *
    2. downloaded the pbsetup for 32-bit Linux Games (GUI version) from here.
    3. ran upx -d pbsetup.run
    4. ran ./pbsetup.run as root
    5. added Enemy Territory with the path /opt/enemy-territory and updated
    6. copied /opt/enemy-territory/pb to ~/.etwolf/pb and corrected the ownership and permissions so my user has ownership and read-write permissions on everything in the local pb directory.
    7. ran the game and enabled punkbuster.
It gave some initial notice of a guid mismatch in the first server I connected to, but I haven't seen it since.
    * I happened to have lib32-libpng12 from AUR installed.  It may be necessary to run the gui client.

  • Enemy Territory freeze

Occasionally when playing Enemy Territory, I get a freeze. Game  locks up, sounds goes itno a loop. Ctrl-Alt-Backspace doesn't work, I've got to switch terminals and kill it from there. When this happens, running top shows et.x86 is using 99.n% of my CPU. Is this an X.org, ET or NVIDIA-releated problem? I just want to know where to look, normally it doens't really worry me too much cause I'm not really a gamer, it just pissed me off last night so I'd like to try and fix it if I could.
    X.org 6.8.2
    Latest NVIDIA according to pacman

Do you have "RenderAccel" set to true in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf?
You could launch ET via the command line. Open up a terminal and type:
    > /opt/enemy-territory/et
    and look at the output...

  • Desperately need some help!! iTunes/Quicktime/iChat/Sound problems....

So, yesterday, I was online, on google video, and when I pressed play on the video, there was no sound, but the video worked...the same was true on every video site i checked. My computer volume was at max, and I even tested the speakers to make sure they were on, and they indeed were.
I thought that was odd...but then the problems really started.....
After that, I clicked on my iChat icon. It bounced once, and did not open. The same thing happened when I clicked on iTunes. 1 bounce, and then nothing. I checked to make sure all of my iTunes mp3 files were on my computer....they indeed are all still here, bit nothing I can do opens iTunes. I've run disc utilities, and disc repair...according to that, everything is peachy-keen on my computer.....but iChat and iTunes STILL will not open, and there is still no sound on anything.
Now, i'm leaning towards the archive and install option....or even just backing up what I want to save, wiping the drive, and starting from scratch.....but i'd really like to not have that happen.
(and, as a side question, if all I want to save are images, several documents, and many mp3 files, would everything be okay if I just backed them up on an external drive, and then loaded them back on to my computer after reinstalling OS X?)
Sorry about the length of this, but I am at my wit's end, and I have no idea what to do.

by third-party, do you mean things I installed that are not manufactured by mac? If that is the case, I have microsoft office, Smart Music, Flip4mac, and Senuti.
I got rid of Flip4Mac to see if that affected my sound problems, but it did not. So, as of now, my problem remains the same...

  • Can Apple fix the 12 bit audio problem once and for all?

I have had persistent audio problems from I Life V3 all the way up to I Life 06. Sometimes it is synch issues. Sometimes it is audio dropping out. I have been through the various forums and applied the various remedies with some successs, some failure. The basic problem is that I have an extensive quantity of Mini DV tapes dating back to 1997, most recorded with 12 bit sound (prior to 2002). Apple's basic stance has been, you must use 16 bit sound or I Movie and/or I DVD won't work and . And proposes awkward workarounds. Basically placing the onus on it's own consumers. Why can't 12 bit sound support be included in I DVD 06 and these persistent audio issues put to rest once and for all? Is there some overwhelming technical reason why it cannot be done?

I don't know about overwhelming, but the DVD specification (which was not developed by Apple) calls for the audio to be sampled at 16-bit/48KHz (I think you might also be able to use 96KHz as well). This is what the software expects. If you choose to use another sample rate then the software may or may not be able to "fix" it in post. The real problem is that many camcorder manufactures set the audio to 12-bit by default.

  • Enemy Territory on Nov 2007 macbook (Black)

so i have a macbook i just got for christmas and im trying to play Enemy Territory on it with the most recent patchs etc. when i open up the game all i hear is a constant sound that keeps looping and gets really annoying. it never did this for any other platforms does anyone else play this game or know if this is due to leopard or is it the new graphics chip in the macbooks
    thanks!

    Have you tried this:
      http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xor … .21_WTF.3F
My mouse pointer was constantly moving to bottom right in UT2004 and Saurbauten. Fixed it by adding the following line at end of /etc/profile:
      export SDL_VIDEO_X11_DGAMOUSE=0
The export could also be place in ~/.bashrc for each user, or in startup script for each game.  By putting it in /etc/profile it applies to all users.

  • Enemy territory and doom3 mouse annoyance

    I have three options:-
    1. Do not disable dga in xorg.conf- :- If my move my mouse too much, some of the movement data is stored in some buffer or something. Press any key or move the mouse some more, this movement data stored in the buffer gets released and you can see the cursor moving in random directions. Till all the data gets released your keypresses do not do anything except moving the mouse. Virtually unplayable.
    2. Disable dga:- mouse movements become slow in doom3 whereas in enemy territory very slow mouse movements are not picked up at all. Extremly irritating.
3.X11_SDL_VIDEO_DGAMOUSE=0: does not seem to make any difference in et(I think it does not use SDL). In doom3, it is same as disabling dga in xorg.
rtcw works perfectly, what is wrong with et and doom3?

export SDL_VIDEO_X11_DGAMOUSE=0, nor any other suggestions worked for me either.  I think that there's actually two very similar problems that are being lumped in as one.
There's no problem with slow mouse movements on my system.  It's that whenever the mouse wheel was used, the wheel movements wouldn't register until the mouse was moved.  That in effect would delay the actual mouse movements.  And the more the wheel was used, the greater the delay.
I just locked all of my xorg packages to the last working release.
Edit: Should note, I only tested RTCW:ET.

  • Enemy Territory: gamma change impossible with fglrx 8.42.3-1

After the last fglrx update I am unable to change my gamma in Enemy Territory. It just stays very dark. I heard that other people have the same problem (German ubuntu (:p) forums: http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/130081/#1046848).
Now I tried to downgrade but then the older fglrx are incompatible with the current xorg, that gave me some evil error messages. Do I have to downgrade xorg as well now, if I want a brighter ET or is there a workaround?

I thin you could simply  open a console and type
    xgamma -gamma foo
(where foo is a float; 1.0 is default, > 1.0 is brighter, < 1.0 is darker)

  • Sound Problem Plus Memory Problem

I've also posted this same issue at the EVGA website with no help what so ever yet. Also if it's ok I'm having the above mentioned memory problem that it probable not related but if anyone does have good input I would love to hear. Hope this doesn't break any rules, didn't see anything in the listed rules thread. So here it goes.
Ok I'm having a few minor but very perplexing and annoying problems. I have recently built a new rig to include the following.
Windows 7 64 bit Home Edition
    EVGA P55 FTW Intel P55 Socket LGA56
    Intel Core i5-750 2.66Ghz 8M LGA56 CPU
    Corsair Dominator 4GB DDR3 PC2800 (2 x 2 GB sticks)
    Ultra LSP750 750w Power Supply
Seagate TB Serial ATA HD 7200/32MB
Cooler Master HAF 932 Full Tower Black Case
Galaxy GeForce GTS 250 52MB PCIe x2 (SLI Setup)
BFG - NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT GB GDDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card (Physx Setup)
    PROBLEM ONE:
This one I had a lot less that I was able to actually try because it just confused the crap out of me. So I started by going to test my sound. I'm running an optical cable from the on board sound port to back of my sony surround sound system. I get sound from my left and right channel but nothing from the center, rears or sub. So figure no biggie just need to change the configuration from 2 speaker stereo to 5. surround sound. Guess what... the option isn't there? WTF? A sound card with an optical port with no 5. support? So went online found the drivers for the sound on the mother board and tried reinstalling thinking maybe somthing was wrong with the drivers on the CD. Well it still didn't work. So I figured what ever, I got an external sound card that I know works with Windows 7 since it was on other desktop and hooked it up. Its a Creative - Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5. External USB Sound Card. Well it installs fine and I go to test it. Yep you guessed it! Still only sound from the left channel and the right channel with no option for surround sound. So I was able to find updated drivers for that and ran em. Well now I have an option for Surround sound with side speakers only no rear. Oh but it doesn't really matter because the left and right channel are still the only ones able to produce sound. And yes the speakers work I turned on my X-Box 360 hooked up to the same speakers and LCD tv and played COD4 with full sound working fine. So something else has to be happening I just have no idea.
    PROBLEM TWO:
The second problem was with the memory. Everything booted fine but it initial only detected 2 GB. By the way I had them installed in slots and 3. So I shut down and popped em out checked the copper connectors everything looked fine and reseated the chi
    ps.
This time during the boot up I checked the BIOS. It saw all 4 GBs of memory. Continued into Windows. Windows now saw all 4 but only .99 GB was available. Now the only other time I've seen anything like this was with on board video sharing the memory, and even then it wasn't half of the systems total memory. I then tried shutting down and putting the chips in 2 and 4 just see what would happen. Well I got an EA post error on the LED, couldn't even boot. So I figured o'well power down completely and tried to run the memory in 2 and 3 to run it out of dual channel. I was able to boot but still had the same issue. .99 GB available and still saw all 4. At this point it was just getting silly so I figured ok I'll download the new BIOS with my laptop, burned it to a CD. Booted the desktop and ran the BIOS flash. Update seemed work fine, honestly the BIOS didn't look much different and I didn't take note of the previous version before I did it so I can only assume it worked. However it did not fix my problem. So I'm still stuck at windows seeing 4 GB of memory with only .99 available.
Anyway... I'll keep trying to get this working and hunting around online, but I'm really hoping you all have some ideas. I'll be trying to call EVGA today for some help too and possibly Corsair. Thanks in advance for the help!

    Hello,
cannot help with the sound problem.
For memory, I've got almost the same thing but with 4 sticks of 2gb and only 2 detected on an ASUS P7P55D deluxe.
Bios was my issue but I needed to do this (but with pairs of sticks instead of sticks) after the bios update to finally get my 8gb under windows:
Make a clear cmos. Then boot the computer with only one stick of ram in the port .
If everything is fine, turn off and add the other port of the same color for dual channel.
If it does not boot with the 2 sticks in the port of the good color, try to switch ports again. Maybe one stick is dead?
